For women historically excluded from wealth-building, Cummings' book is an essential guide to taking control of finances and achieving financial dreams. Fearless Finances provides the keys to build a success squad and learn from women who overcame barriers on their journey to financial freedom.
This is such an important book and I absolutely recommend it. I ordered a copy for our library and will be recommending this for displays and readers advisory. It's timely and practical and I love the tone.
Fearless Finances gives practical advice while utilizing personal examples from the author. I found it informative and a great starting point on one’s journey to get their financial health in check. If nothing else, it showed that we are not alone in our struggle to understand how to manage our way to financial stability and freedom.
Voluntarily reviewed after receiving a free copy courtesy of NetGalley, the Publisher and the author, Cassandra Cummings.
I started reading this book and I couldn't focus. I felt like the tone of the book was very casual and I couldn't get behind it.
I appreciate the fact that even though I am a man and am not literally the intended audience for this book, I still found Cummings's financial literacy advice informative and motivating. But other than that standout quality, this book really wasn't for me. It read to me more like the transcript of a podcast and that the book hadn't been edited. The balance of content between explanations of financial literacy and personal narratives was far outweighed by the narratives, and sub-narratives, and narrative digressions. I think the book would best be read with a group of others to discuss its content; this would lead to the type of shared conversation, understanding, and community-building that Cummings advocates for building. So, if that's the direction the reader goes, I think they will get more out of this book than just reading it straight on.
I love to read all things about personal finance, so I had to grab this when I saw the author has the credentials I would look for in an advisor personally or as a recommendation. This book doesn't disappoint. The target audience is women of color, although others can learn something here as well. She has the facts, she features the fearless female figures (including a beloved professor of mine from grad school), and she says the important things about gaining confidence and surrounding yourself with the right people. I don't necessarily agree with all her strategies personally (for me) but I even learned a little. I would totally be friends with this woman! Highly recommended for anyone who feels like they are doing the right things but not progressing.
Fearless Finances by Cassandra Cummings is a book I would recommend to any woman; not just a black woman. Cassandra did a fabulous job explaining complicated financial information in an understandable method. I wish I had this information 30 years ago. She shares basic financial info and investing information. Most importantly she shares sound wisdom when it comes to our finances and what holds us back.
One of her goals in the book is to provide us with “clarity, confidence and control”
I am going to look into joining her community – The Stocks and Stilettos Society.
I had never considered a money mentor. I have several corporate work mentors but no money mentor. She shares how to start your own investing club.
A few of my favorite quotes:
“You have to be the best thing that ever happened to your money.”
“Hang around positive, financially successful people because you will more than likely begin to think like them.”
“If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
“When your expectations change, your behavior changes.”
I highly recommend this book.
Note: my only disappointment with the book is that she clearly is writing it specifically to black women. Try to overlook that if you are not a black woman and try not to feel alienated. Her book and the information she shares is worth overlooking that.
Love that the author approaches complicated topics, and gives insightful tips on savings and stocks. This is a well written book on finance that is worth reading.
I am grateful to Harper Collins Leadership for my complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This should be read by every woman and I loved how it wasn't an overwhelming read. It's okay if you google her first to understand who she is and how she got where she is. This book is perfect for those beginning their personal finance and she highlights the steps necessary to win in finance and build wealth.
I loved that this book was written by a woman of color. Too often, finance books are written by the same people over and over again. She offered a different, fresher perspective.
Anytime I pick up a book on finances I always look for those written by women or people of color. The reason is that I have read condescending finance books by the "pale, stale and male" before and the tips in those types of books work really well if you were born into generational wealth and grew up around people with money.
Neither of these apply to me. I grew up in poverty and without access to basic necessities like running water or heat. It's sufficient to say that I have a complicated relationship with money!
Long story short: This is why I read "Fearless Finances" by Cassandra Cummings. I appreciate how Cassandra broke down complicated (and frankly, intimidating) topics like Stocks, different savings techniques, etc. It was easy to follow along with the tips and explanations laid out in this book.
If you're looking for a book that will help you create concrete goals around money, then make sure to check out "Fearless Finances"!

We have all lived pay check to pay check but if you have ever want to know how to control your money and make your money work for you and not just you working for your money.
