I received a gifted galley of WITCHA GONNA DO? by Avery Flynn for an honest review. Thank you to Berkley Publishing and PRH Audio for the opportunity!

WITCHA GONNA DO? follows Tilda and Gil. Tilda is a young woman born to a family of powerful witches without any magic of her own. The family’s shame is strong and she must find ways to live in a magical family and a magical world in a very human way. She’s making the most of her life, putting herself out there with the help of a matchmaker, but she doesn’t understand why she keeps getting set up on blind dates with Gil, the absolute last person she wants to spend time with.

Gil is a bit of a know-it-all, but when Tilda accidentally curses her entire family in a very spectacular fashion, he’s got the power she needs to try to set things right. With a cast of magical misfit friends, they must seek out what they need, but Gil also has some motives of his own that have drawn him into Tilda’s orbit with more questions that need answers.

This book was a fun and quick read. It is written in a very conversational tone, with the narrators speaking to the audience. I found some elements to be a bit repetitive, but overall I really enjoyed the humor that came particularly in Tilda’s chapters.

The cast of characters included a wide mix of magical creatures, each with power, secrets, and mishaps of their own. This book does take on a lot between the romance and the fantasy elements but it made for a quick, action packed read.

WITCHA GONNA DO? is available now!

I'm clearly in the minority with this book, but I truly loved it. Light-hearted, funny as all get out, some angst driven steamy scenes, and a few action packed situations that kept me laughing throughout this book. Loved Tilda and Gil, the situations they got themselves into were something else, and the misfits were truly great witch friends that had Tildas back. Full of witchery fun, I'm very much looking forward to the next book with Leona and Erik.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

The writing style was not for me in any capacity. I really wanted to like it but after attempting to read the opening few chapters it was clear this story was not going to click with me.

I struggled with the amount of side conversations with ones self. I love the cover but the writing just didn't work.

In this enemies-to-lovers story where two nemesis' have to work together to set a mysterious spell to rights, romance is bubbling and brewing between them the entire time, Gil and Tilda have zero chance of not falling in love.

Witcha Gonna Do is Flynn's brand of comedy mixed in with a brand new paranormal world. Tilda and Gil move about in a social construct that is fresh and made this story unique.

Tilda is part of the most powerful family of witches, but unfortunately she is the one witch who doesn't have any powers. Unless you count her social media skills.

Whereas Gil is from a witchy family that has been banned for the use of their magic powers. His backstory is unique in its own right and I loved how Gil and Tilda mashed together.

While Witcha Gonna Do is a brand new world for Avery Flynn there were some points in the book that drug by. However, I feel books such as these deserve a little grace, especially in the beginning. Creating fiction is hard, but creating a paranormal world where everything is entirely made up, I feel, is even harder.

Overall, this book is sort of silly with romance wrapped around the story, but it's a nice escape, which is what reading is all about.

maybe it’s just because i’m no longer in the halloween/witchy mood, or maybe it’s just the book itself.

i did not like the way the book started, and it felt like the world was not set up well (i was a little confused).

i found tilda annoying and gil didn’t give me a reason for me to love him enough to want to continue reading. maybe i’ll pick it back up again next halloween season, but for now i’m not going to force myself to read it.

An adorable witchy heist with unpredictable magic, revealed secrets, and people who think they don't like each other but actually *like* like each other, plus a good dose of snark.

I throughly enjoyed this book immensely!! Anything with witches, count me in!! I even told my daughter about this, and she added it to her never ending TBR list. I can’t wait to read more from this author !!

As a fan of Flynn's contemporary romances, I was eager to see how she would fare in paranormal. Was it perfect? No, but I laughed and was entertained. The book had a lot more plot than I anticipated. There was the family secret, the curse, and even a heist. I did feel some things were unresolved, but I believe this is supposed to be a companion series. Maybe I will get some answers then. Either way, I was a fan of Tilda, Gil, and Tilda+Gil, and it was fun seeing them fall in love.

While this one was not my favorite, I still enjoyed it! I simply adore enemies to lovers, so I will read one whenever I get the opportunity. I liked Tilda and Gil's characters and the story line was good too. The story was easy to follow and again, I can't say no to an enemies to lovers!

Overall, I would give a 3.5, rounded up to a 4.

I came for the gorgeous cover and stayed for all of the angsty witchy romance. This was a fun read featuring the enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine, and opposites attract tropes.

Tilda Sherwood is a member of one of the most powerful witch families in the world. She’d have it made, if only she had her magical abilities. Tilda is considered an outcast in the magical community and finds herself being investigated by her enemy Gil Connolly, who is secretly a double agent for both The Council and The Resistance. Gil and Tilda have always been at odds with one another until their magic goes haywire and they find that their true desires can no longer be hidden.

The chemistry between Tilda and Gil was off the charts. Seeing them struggle to fight their undeniable chemistry was ✨angsty✨ and I was SO here for it. I would’ve loved to have gotten flashbacks of the two in the past so we could’ve seen more of their backstory. Overall, I’m a sucker for grumpy heroes who are cinnamon roles for their love interest and this book delivered on that front. This is the perfect escapist read to give you all of the supernatural vibes you need for the autumn season!

i have loved several of avery flynn's books, but this one did not work for me. it was a lot. it was too much, i think. it was more of an info dump than world building, or maybe that's just me, i just couldn't keep everything straight and felt like i was being told so much but didn't feel connected to the characters or anything. it really sucks because i have loved some of her books in the past. i hope this does well with other people. but it wasn't for me.

Tilda comes from a long line of well-known witches in Witchingdom. However, she is the black sheep of the family as the only witch without powers. Her bad luck continues when she keeps running into her nemesis on multiple blind dates. How could her luck be that bad? Her luck turns from bad to worse as Tilda finds herself needing help from the one person she wants to avoid at all costs in order to save her family. Sexy, electric, and sizzling with magic, Tilda and the ruggedly handsome know-it-all Gil devise a heist to retrieve a magical relic that is their only hope for setting things right.

This book had lots of potential but missed the mark just a smidge for me. It was good. Not great.

I liked the world and think there were lots of funny moments to it. Having a grumpy unicorn shape-shifter was so funny. Plus, the world was interesting. It was a lot to introduce in book one, but that's just how book one's are in a new series.

I also liked that this was written in such a way that it was like Tilda and Gil were relating the story to the reader. It was kinda like reading from a journal or something. It made it more personal and a little funnier.

This book was written in dual pov which, surprisingly enough, didn't suit this book well. I truly think having single pov of only Tilda, the FMC, instead of Tilda and Gil, would have contributed to making this book better. For one, their thoughts sounded the same instead of them feeling like two distinct people. The way they acted felt distinct, but their thoughts were not. Plus, Gil was keeping a lot of secrets and I think those secrets would have been kept better and added to the suspense and slow burn by not having his pov.

Overall, this was an okay read. I think it could have been done better, but I didn't hate it.

This was a fun read. Loved the family dynamics and friendship of witches and other paranormal people. The web of magic woven will definitely take you on a very entertaining ride.

Matilda "Tilda" Sherwood is the black sheep of her witchy family, the only one without magical power, an outré. When the book opens, she is sitting in a cafe, waiting for her date from a matchmaker to show up. Her three-hundred-yearl-old sprite matchmaker had even instructed her to sit under the dragon's blood tree in the corner, the one with really gummy leaves, yes, the one that seems to want to be near Tilda. Tilda's just hoping that this blind date is not her nemesis (somehow they've been set up three times already...) but, alas, it seems she is to be disappointed.
Gil Connolly is playing a long con. He's a part of the Council but also the Resistance. The Council is a secret (even from the witches) society that seem to believe that Tilda is faking her non-magicalness. So, Gil is setting up these dates in order to see if he can figure out her deal. Too bad it seems like it may be that her deal is setting his own magic, calling out the desires of people whether it be wealth, knowledge, power, whatever, on fire.
In general, this hits about the same as Flynn's usual stories but with a paranormal twist. This book starts and ends as though Matilda is speaking straight to the reader which was a little odd since the rest of the book is alternating first person for Matilda and Gil. This book also sets up at least three more in the series as the epilogue is five years later and lets us know how everything (overall) turns out. Otherwise, this was a first book and there was so much going on in trying to set up the world and the characters that it got a little confusing.

Thank you to Berkley Romance and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy and to PRH Audio for the complimentary audiobook. These opinions are my own.

Tilda has grown up believing herself to have no powers in one of the most powerful witch families around. It's a tough life, as she is relegated to just handling her family's social media accounts. But when her interference with her sister's spell goes wrong, the fate of Witchingdom is at stake. Never fear, Gil, the man she has been set up with 4 times, is there to help.

The book was told in dual perspectives for Tilda and Gil with hilarious voices and great reader asides (we're good friends). The lead up to the steamy scenes was a bit raunchy at times, but that worked with the amusing and "tell-it-like-it-is" tone throughout. I thought it was slightly misrepresented as an enemies-to-lovers. Though Tilda initially describes Gil as her "nemesis," it's not really clear why. The two of them have just met on a series of blind dates.

I loved the characters in this book. I was especially fond of all the witching misfits and the acknowledgement of how challenging that would be. And I greatly appreciated how the book spoke to the ways in which those with fewer abilities learn to think outside the box. Without being about disability or ableism, this book spoke to those topics well.

Sarah Pesek and Adam Gold narrated the novel with heart. On my app, she seemed considerably louder, so I kept having to adjust the volume when the narrators swapped. But I thought they both brought the characters and story to life so well.

I absolutely loved the ending, as it previewed the next books about Tilda's sisters. Now I can't wait to read those.

Tilda isn’t lucky. She is a non-magic in a powerful family and she ends up not once, not twice, but thrice on a date with Gil Connolly, a man whose ego equals his beauty in an Indian Jones style. One day she makes her sister’s spell glitch and all her family ends up frozen. Guess who's the only one who can help? She will uncover other secrets along the way.

Holy crap, this book was a great surprise! This book had me giggling and smiling like a fool almost the entire time. Don’t be deluded by the cute cover, this novel contains steamy scenes. Those scenes were well written. I love the character of Tilda due to the realism of her persona. She is a curvy woman with glasses adds this her clumsiness, her social network work, and she tries to date with apps or with the help of a matchmaker.

You will find in this book:

Small Town Romance
Witch and other paranormal
Enemies to lovers
Forced Proximity
He falls first
Secret and Mystery
Extra: A Raccoon who loves whiskey and belly rubs.

2.5 ⭐️
I’m really sad this book fell flat for me! I thought the premise sounded fun and wacky but not much of the book really worked for me.

The book follows two main characters. First is Tilda who is a non magical witch in a powerful witch family and used to pitying looks from everyone. The second is Gil Connolly who has to get to know Tilda for his secret agenda as a double agent working for both The Resistance and The Council. The Council are the witches in charge and they have has his family as captives and he's reluctantly working with him to save them. The resistance are the witches and magical creatures looking to overthrow the council.

The book was an easy read in the sense that the writing and characters felt very young/immature. Even with it being easy to read it was still extremely confusing. The world building and magical system weren't explained so they felt inconsistent and unimportant details were over explained so it felt like lots of info being dumped. All of the sub plots (frozen family, the heist, Gil’s family, the council, the duil magic) also added to my confusion during book. I thought the spicy scenes were the most interesting parts even though for the love of god I don’t understand how Tilda would have the flexibility and strength to pull off that wall scene. 🤔

Overall I think this will appeal to some people but it just wasn’t for me.

Thank you to Berkley Romance and Valentine PR for sending me an e-ARC of this book to read and review. I have mixed feelings about this book. On on hand it was a cute witchy rom-com with great spice and on the other, I feel like it was trying to hard to be a fantasy with little to no background info or clear world building. I knew going in that the spice would be top tier because I love Avery Flynn's other books so much. I liked this book, but it got a bit lost from time to time. There was a lot of info at points and there wasn't enough at others. I thought there was a sense of charm while reading this and not in the magic sense. I enjoyed the alternating POV's and I liked the inner monologues we got to witness as readers. The beginning was pretty slow for me and it took a while for me to really be invested in the characters and what was happening. The heist subplot was a delight and the action really fit well. Overall, this one was just a bit all over the place, but I did still enjoy what was happening.

The book's cover and synopsis drew me to the book, but unfortunately, I see now that it was a HUGE mistake. I am not mad about the fourth wall breaks, although it got annoying way too early in the story. Next, I want to talk about Gil and Tilda who are supposed to be nemeses but there's no solid backstory to it; also, I didn’t care for the romance between these two. Then there's the worldbuilding which was a lot of exposition which made the entire reading experience a bad kind of chaotic. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this personally which is a shame as the concept of the book is really interesting but who knows someone else might end up liking it!

I'm only giving 2 stars because of the sex scenes which I liked the most💅🏻
