Avery Flynn knows humor and this book was a departure from what I'm used to from her but still had the same flare of characters. I really enjoyed it!

This was really not for me DNF after the first two chapters. The writing style was cringy. Maybe it would be better in audiobook form?? But reading it was not great for me. I won't be positing a review on goodreads as it does not seem fair to rate it based on two chapters I did not enjoy.

Witcha Gonna Do? started off promising. I liked the characters, it had good humor, and an interesting world. While some may not like the narration style, I thought it was fun; it's nice to read something that isn't too serious. The more I read the more the plot started to not make sense and just fit there for the sake of the characters having something to do together. The ending was my least favorite part because I personally don't like when romance books end with the couple having children or being pregnant; that can happen off the page in my opinion.

I think one thing about me and fantasy is I tend to get overwhelmed with the amount of world building being thrown at me. This unfortunately was the case here. I feel like it also skipped over the development and building of the relationship altogether. I didn't understand how the enemies to lovers connection even started to begin with. Overall, it was a nice concept. I wish I enjoyed it more. Thank you to berkeley and netgalley for the arc.

I had a hard time getting into this one, but enjoyed it once I did. I think because it is the start of a new series, it was a little heavy in setting the stage for the series. Tilda is a non-magical person in a magical world and teams up with her enemies, well her enemy that she is attracted to, to undo a spell.

I was amused that Tilda kept using a matchmaker to find love and she kept getting set up with her nemesis. I also thought the miscommunications that spurred the story along were well done. I am always hit or miss with magic, witches and fantasy stories, so the fact that this isn’t a favorite read of mine, could me due more to me than to the story.

I both read and listened to this one and Sarah Pesek and Adam Gold nailed the narration and kept me interested in the story. I think I enjoyed the read a little more once I was able to listen.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with a title of Witcha Gonna Do? from Avery Flynn. A paranormal RomCom? But, the story was not what I expected … it was so much more. It took everything I had to not laugh-out-loud with the shenanigans between Gil and Tilda. The secrets, tarot cards, miscommunications and the spells all wove together to make a fun and enjoyable read.

Gil had secrets … Tilda’s parents had secrets and poor Tilda thought she was the only non-witch in her whole family. With a godmother that kept reading the cards wrong and setting her up on dates with the same person time and time again (the frustrating and extremely handsome Gil) and an attack rooster, love must definitely be in the cards for these two. But, they have a road to travel before they could find that happily-ever-after. And it’s a road filled with comedic errors and a wee bit of a mystery.

Avery Flynn always tickles my funny bone. In a bad mood? Pick up an Avery Flynn book. Looking for something to read that is fun and has an amazing storyline? Pick up an Avery Flynn book. Just in the mood to read an author that will keep you engaged in the story, give you wonderful characters and a good time? Pick up an Avery Fynn book.

Witcha Gonna Do? was filled with characters that you will fall in love with, a storyline that is amusing and interesting and has a happily-ever-after that’s both sweet and fun. If you are looking to put a little bit of magic in your life and have fun while doing it, you need Witcha Gonna Do?

This is the first book in this series and I here for everything this series has to offer. I'm hooked on these characters. When I heard one of my favorite romantic comedy authors was doing it with a paranormal flare I was super excited. This book had me from the very first page. Gil and Tilda take us on one heck of a journey. Gil is being super risky being playing double agent. Gil is in for a surprise with this assignment because it's anything, but standard. Tilda's world gets turned upside down in this one. I'm so glad there is more than meets the eye with her. She's someone I would want to be friends. I lover her friendship with her best friends. They are friend goals. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. I really can't wait for more from this series I'm already obsessed.

I've read many a romance book in my life, but I think these main characters main have been the horniest of them all. The plot was interesting but was a little overshadowed by the smut. Enjoyed reading it though.

Sadly I didn't love this one. I really wanted to but for some reason I couldn't get into it. I started then put it aside a couple times. I think that the way it was written with talking to the reader as an audience threw me off. Also, the main character was treated so poorly it was frustrating. It sort of came off cheesy (I mean the title is a pun so I shouldn't be surprised). I love the cover and premise this one was just a miss for me personally.

Often the tone of the synopsis of a book matches the voice of the narration and I found the synopsis for Witcha Gonna Do seeming to be whimsical and quirky with a dash of magic and mayhem! I immediately signed up and was excited to read it.

The immediate thing you notice as soon as you start the book is the voice of the FMC, Matilda. The first thing she does it wave at the reader. I would have never expected to be waved at, but the Deadpool style of narration sounded interesting. The writing shifts between the FMC’s and the MMC’s perspective. Additionally, it also does quick jumps between a narration and a sort of short monologue to the audience at times. It was amusing even if sometimes feels a little out of place. But it was mostly a means for comic relief and did drag a snort of humour out of me. However it was often employed in similar ways in both characters’ perspectives.

The world building was designed to keep the readers abreast as they read. Which means we never know the meaning of something or the rules it follows before hand, rather we watch an incident happen and it’s meaning is later discussed in one of the character’s POVs and quickly explained.

The pace of the book was very swift, often racing by faster than a reader can read. This is fantastic because it keeps you hooked, but when paired with the world building that happens at leisure rather than earlier, it made the experience of understanding what was happening and following the events a little rocky.

A very interesting aspect of the story was that the narration was light, almost … airy but the situations in the book was serious. The FMC and the MMC were in very heartbreaking circumstances, both involving themselves and the ones they love. The contrast between the narration and the set up was very evident and it’s not easy for the both to be balanced. It’s like bringing Fire and Water and having them coexist without coalescing into steam. The author has tried their best to strike this balance, but it is no easy feat.

The romance in the book was bordering on insta-lust, the enemies to lovers trope was more a situational concept than a reality. The author has certainly attempted to find a way to justify the reason for their emotions and at the same time temper the pace of the relationship against the backdrop of a super speedy book.

The secondary characters were all quite sweet and they add to the quirk and whimsical nature of the story. I think these characters may be my favourite part of the book.

There’s a lot of humour and heart in this story and though it’s the first in a series, the book reads more like a novella/prequel to the series. If I read the second book in this series, I might possibly like it a lot more. The set up for the next book was done interestingly well and when you read the teaser for it, you’re going to be surprised.

I’m rounding up to a three! Happy reading.

I wish I'd loved this book. The premise alone should've done it for me. Avery Flynn's books work well for me sometimes and other times... not so much. For example, her series starting with Butterface was *really* not for me, but I liked her hockey books.
Witcha Gonna Do fell into the former category, unfortunately. In the first few chapters, I came to actively dislike the heroine's POV. She was annoying and immature, which I know was supposed to come off as cute and sassy. Maybe I was in the wrong mood since I seem to be in the minority, but I didn't want to spend any more time with her. I pushed further and didn't change my mind.
I hope the right audience finds this book!

WITCHA GONNA DO? was a fun read. Though I was hoping to invest in the characters a bit more, I enjoyed the author's style of writing. The flow and pace were good it was just that I felt like I have read characters like this before. I wanted something more unique.

I was so excited to read this book, the cover art is just so cute and I love witchy romances! But, whaaaaat did I just read?? Or attempt to read, as I am absolutely dnf'ing it. If this was labelled as the YA book it clearly is trying hard not to be I would have more patience for it, but no. When I want a mindless cringe read later on I'll pick this one up, but for now, she's being shelved.

I'm going to DNF this one - I don't think the overly cutsey vibe/style of writing is for me right now. I may revisit in the future though!

I had mixed feelings about this book. In theory, I was so excited, but the execution wasn't my favorite. Breaking the fourth wall as it did felt odd, I kept thinking of the old made for tv Disney movies in the 2000s, which while I have endless love and appreciation for those movies, wasn't working for me here. Gil's powers felt a little weird in terms of consent, especially in the beginning. Overall, the cover is absolutely stunning, I really love it, but the book wasn't for me.

Witcha Gonna Do? is fine. It's not particularly memorable and finding traction to get into the book was tricky. It has its humorous moments and, of course, it's got some spice but there are better books with a similar storyline.

Witcha Gonna Do is a contemporary, paranormal, rivals (to reluctant allies) to lovers romance. I am going to be candid, this one isn’t going to be for everyone. There isn’t a lot of world building, and we get thrown into modern day VA, but with trolls and grumpy unicorn shifters. It is chaotic and a bit bonkers, but in a good way (for me).

This book gave me grown up Encanto vibes and I love that. Tilda Sherwood is the red headed, twenty something version of Mirabel. She is extremely different from the rest of her family, the biggest difference being her lack of magic.

Gil, the MMC, has a “sexy professor aesthetic” and is working as a double agent to free his family from the control of The Council. Gil comes from a family who has “love magic” which is not trusted among other witches and banished to The Beyond.

When Tilda freezes her family, she ends up working with her 2 best friends, also magical misfits, and Gil to reverse the spell. There is flying and a heist and cauldrons and trolls and rival families and so much more. And the epilogue, might have been one of the sweetest I have ever read and left me wanting more from the Sherwood family.

Overall, I thought this was a really fun take on paranormal romance and will absolutely read the rest of the series when it comes out.
