Ready for something great to happen in her life, Tilda Sherwood is eager for her blind date to arrive. However, when Gil Connolly shows up as her date after the two have already been matched twice before, Tilda is very annoyed. She is the only non-magical member in her very well respected witch family, and Gil is egotistical and too hot for his own good. But when a spell goes wrong and Tilda’s whole family is cursed, Gil seems eager to help her. Now if only the two could focus on the task at hand without getting distracted by each other….

This was a very cute, witchy, rom-com with a heist! The writing seemed slightly immature at first, at least in Tilda’s chapters (this is a dual POV book), but I got used to Tilda’s bubbly personality that came through in her chapters. The whole story was very lusty with some excellent spice, but also a great deal of magical side characters and plot lines that required a little more attention than the pure romance pieces. A fun story, and a great promise for more books featuring Tilda’s sisters!

Thank you to NetGalley, Valentine PR, Berkley Publishing Group, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I enjoyed this book, but there were some aspects of the world building and non-romance plot that didn’t really work for me.

The world building felt somewhat incomplete and didn’t totally make sense. The world that we’re shown throughout the book was really wonderful and fun, but other aspects of the world that were explained but never shown didn’t seem to match up or get explained enough to really make sense. For me, this boiled down to the Council and their existence in this world. I think they were kind of unnecessary and I would have enjoyed the book more without them.

There was also enough going on in this book without the Council. If anything, having them as part of the book took time away from the aspects of the story that I really enjoyed. I had a lot of fun with the rest of the plot, and I think this story easily could have happened without needing the Council to exist. From the epilogue, it does seem that they partially exists to tie together plots from a whole series of books centred around these characters, which would partially explain this choice, but I don’t need an overarching plot in a series of connected romance novels. I’ll come back and read the next one just because I loved the characters in the first one and it’s a return to the world.

And I did really enjoy the characters in this one. Tilda is a magicless witch in a world where having magic is pretty much expected, especially in her family of super powerful witches. Although at times she is disappointed by her lack of magic and wants to know what it would feel like to be able to do magic, she is still an independent and capable character with her own skills and strengths. Gil, however, does have magic and I loved the part it played in their relationship. The side characters were also great additions to the story, and Griselda especially was wonderfully quirky.

I also loved how much magic there was involved in the story, because nothing is more disappointing than reading a witchy romance where nothing witchy happens.

Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing, and Valentine PR for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

I love Avery's writing, so it was really exciting to get to read another book by her that was quite different from the other books I have read by her. I am used to reading her contemporary romances, but they are "normal" - no magic involved. This one is contemporary but all the magic! It is a lot of fun, but it did take me a bit longer than normal to get into. It does have Avery's signature snark, I just didn't seem to connect with the characters quite as closely as I did some of her other books. That being said, It looks like it is the beginning of a series possibly, so that is exciting because there were definitely questions that I had at the end of the book that I wanted answered. I will for sure pick up the next book so that I can find out what happens next, because I am still intrigued by the chaos created by the magic of this book, but know that if you have read some of Avery's other contemporary books the writing style did feel a little different (at least to me). Not bad, just different. Overall, enjoyable book, but I probably won't reread it, except for maybe when the next one comes out.

I hate that I'm rating a Avery Flynn book so low since I've really liked her in the past but this book just wasn't for me. In all honesty if it wasn't an ARC I wouldn't have made it through the first chapter. I don't DNF books but if I'm hating something so hard in the first chapter or two I'm not going to continue and I just think of it as reading a sample.

This book started off with the heroine talking to the readers and it was so odd. It took me by surprise - not in a good way - and had me pausing and putting the book down. It luckily didn't do that much more throughout the book but it certainly wasn't a great way to start off. Even without the whole breaking the fourth wall the writing seemed very juvenile and for a paranormal book there wasn't enough world building. It actually got confusing at times with the mentions of The Council and The Resistance since they were just thrown out there with little to no explanation on who exactly they were and why they were such a good or bad thing.

As for the romance, it didn't help this book at all because it felt pretty nonexistent. I think the entire span of the book was no more than a week and yet the heroine and hero were in love in that time? Yeah, not buying it. Especially since they started off as "enemies." Though, that wasn't any more believable since there wasn't a clear reason they didn't like each other and they quickly changed their minds about their hate.

Overall, I can see where this book could be a fun and easy read but for me it just didn't work. I'll still happily read whatever Ms. Flynn comes out with next, but nothing more from this series.

At first I was very unsure about this book from how quick everything was happening. When getting halfway through the book I became greatly invested! I loved the way Tilda’s and Gil’s relationship formed and how they both changed each other for the better. I also love how the author didn’t drag certain scenes out and we weren’t left on long cliffhangers. I do wish we got to see more about Gil in the Beyond.

This was not the best book Ive read unfortunately. The title, blurb and cover are amazing and I had high hopes. But it didn’t live up to it unfortunately. I wanted to like this book.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book by receiving this arc.

Gil and Tilda are perfect together and their banter is wonderful. Tilda is a member of the witch family, but she has no superpowers. Gil is matched with her to investigate if this is true, because no one can believe it.
Their chemistry is off the charts and the dialogue is witty and charming. The family and rivals are fantastic and have me wanting more. A good book to start a new series. I liked how fast paced the book was the characters kept me entertained. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

This book is a fun and whimsical contemporary romance. As suggested by the title, there are witches in this story creating a light fantasy element in a modern world.

For some reason, this book gave me hints of "The House in the Cerulean Sea" by T.J. Klune but adult. Definitely adult. More than adult. I think it was the similarity in the charm of the different characters and their unique powers. The settings were also extremely cozy and charmingly described.

The romance in this book was steamier than I expected based on the cover (I know, I know...my fault for judging a book by its cover) but I'm not complaining. That being said, do not go into this book expecting it to have a PG rating because it definitely does not *fans self*.

I'm interested in continuing this series because it was a fun read and a very unique kind of read for the contemporary romance genre.

I love some of Avery's books, and I do know she has a very specific sense of humor, so going into this I was expecting a bit of ridiculous good fun. I liked the general idea, but it was just too much going on for me. I unfortunately did not finish reading this one, because of that. I may try it again when I'm in the mood for something like this.

A witchy rom-com with fun banter and spice!

I immediately wanted to read this book after seeing the cover and reading the blurb and overall I really enjoyed this book! Tilda is an outre (non-magic person) in a family of extremely powerful witches and finds herself on yet another blind date with her extremely attractive nemesis (Gil). When Tilda accidentally causes a glitch in her sister's spell, she turns to Gil and her group of friends that are labeled as outcasts like her.

This book features a lot of internal monologue from Tilda and I felt it added a lightness to the story and helped the reader understand and get to know this character. I would've liked to see a little more background of Gil and Tilda's relationship prior to their first meeting in this book to really understand their relationship and how it developed into what it was. I loved the world that this story was set in and how it felt extremely modern and witchy. There were also several spicy scenes which were well written and fit with the moment in the book.

For me, this was a great mix of contemporary/pnr romance and I would read future books in this series!

Quirky, but cute story.

I am intrigued by this new series. It was cute, quirky, and fun. I did feel like it took a little too long to get to the heart of the story though. There was a bit too much back and forth with Tilda and Gil. But once the action really starts - it pulled me right in.

Tilda is a non-witch in a powerful witch family and Gil is playing on both sides of the paranormal world. While they don't seem to be right for each other on paper, their chemistry is through the roof. We learn why that is later on in the book.

They go through some wacky shenanigans and have to join together to truly bring justice to the witching world. Overall a fun read.

I voluntarily requested and read an uncorrected advance reader copy.

Witcha Gonna Do is one of the spiciest romcoms I’ve read all year! It’s quirky, magical, bingeable, and fast-paced. From the moment that I began reading this paranormal romance, I’ve been unable to focus on anything. Flynn creates characters with such magnetic chemistry you might even think they were bewitched. 😉 Witcha Gonna Do is an open-door, steamy enemies to lovers romantic comedy that will leave you wanting more!

Thank you, Berkley & Avery Flynn for the gifted e-arc.

Happy Pub Day to Witcha Gonna Do!

Tilda comes from a long line of influential and powerful witches, but she herself was born with no magical abilities and overall bad luck. Her latest unlucky streak? She keeps getting set up with Gil, who she cannot stand. But when she accidentally makes her sister’s spell go wrong, and literally freezes her whole family, she has to partner with Gil to save her family.

This book was full of steam, humor and heart. I always love Avery Flynn’s writing style and how her hot mess characters make me laugh out loud at times. Tilda was no different. She definitely is the black sheep of the family, and manages to get into some interesting situations. She got thrown for a loop when she met Gil, and their banter was incredible. The way they fell for each other was so sweet and their chemistry was on fire. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to more from this series!

Thanks to Berkley Publishing for the advance copy.

Witcha Gonna Do is the first book in Avery Flynn’s Witchinton series. I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I liked the characters, the humor, and the supernatural elements. I thought the premise was intriguing too. On the other hand, I wanted…more.

The book as a whole was fun and entertaining, and I liked the premise a lot. I also liked that there was so much humor throughout the story. There were some comments and scenes that had me laughing out loud. Tilda, in particular, has a great sense of humor. However, I wish the characters, romance, and world-building had more depth. I wanted to know more about the unique world and the people who inhabited it. This is the first book in the series, so I have a feeling some of these elements will be developed more in the next books. The narrative style also kind of bothered me. I’m not a fan of narrators who talk to the reader. Breaking down the fourth wall works in some instances. In this case, it was a bit off-putting for me.

Tilda is an interesting protagonist. She’s a witch from a super powerful family, yet she has no powers (that she knows of). She is part of a magical misfits support group, and she is shocked when she accidentally curses her whole family. Unfortunately, to break the curse Tilda has to work with a man who irritates and annoys her. Gil knows Tilda is hiding her power, and he is tasked with figuring out what her power is. He has an interesting back story too, though I wish we learned more about it.

The romance between Tilda and Gil went from enemies-to-lovers to insta-love rather quickly, which surprised me, especially considering how much animosity Tilda felt towards Gil at the start. That being said, their romantic scenes are pretty sexy, and their chemistry is fantastic.

I think readers who are looking for a quick, cute, and light paranormal romance with a different narrative style might enjoy Witcha Gonna Do. Thanks to Berkeley Books for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

This book was so cute and fun! I loved getting lost in Tilda's world! Gil keeps showing up in her path and she's getting tired of it. He's grumpy and doesn't like her .... or does he?! I liked how the reader knows a little more about Gil than Tilda does and how their story unfolded. I liked getting to know Tilda and the Sherwood family. They are a prominent family and kind of a big deal. The social media frenzy around them can sometimes work out to Tilda's benefit! And the chemistry between Tilda and Gil was palpable through the pages. I couldn't read this book fast enough and recommend!

What’s worse than being the magicless daughter of one of the most powerful women in Witchingdom? Being set up on blind dates with one of the worst, most arrogant men over and over and over again. All Tilda wants to do is to run her family’s social media account and find someone to love her despite her magical failings. Instead, she gets Gil Connolly, a sexy archeology professor with a permasnarl hotness.

But all is not what it seems, Gil has secrets and Tilda’s family has been keeping secrets from her. When all those hidden truths are about to blow up in their faces, they have no choice but to work together to save Tilda’s family and all of Witchingdom.

I feel like this book was written specifically for my tastes. From the very beginning when Tilda starts addressing the reader casually I was hooked. Including the reader into the narration can be very messy and feel weird but Avery Flynn pulled it off expertly.

Tilda is the black sheep, the outcast, the one everyone watches just waiting for her to mess up and fail and yet she manages to keep believing the best in everyone. She’s a mixture of insecurities and confidence, ready to believe herself less because of her lack of magical ability but at the same time not letting herself be beaten down with that knowledge. Even before the secrets behind her lack of magic are revealed, she manages to grow confidence *because* she’s different and how those differences give her the edge within a society that relies heavily on magic.

With Gil’s help, Tilda and her magical misfit friends plan the ultimate heist to save Tilda’s family. From face-offs with a witch-eating troll to sexy train rides this story has a little bit of everything. The world the author created is a rich parallel to our world, so similar and yet so different in a way you don’t question it. There were a few moments when references to our reality were mentioned and it was a little jarring to be tugged back to reality. And if the book itself wasn’t enough to get me to keep reading, the way the epilogue was written is guaranteed to get me to read the next book. While it tells us how everything goes in the very end, it gives us nothing of how it got there and my curiosity is burning. 10/10 will be snagging Book 2 as soon as I can.

Unfortunately Witcha Gonna Do? was not for me.
The writing style took me out of the story a lot, along with the constant fourth wall breaks. This read as a middle grade or young adult read to me. There was also a lot of info dumping. It became confusing because so much information about the world and the characters were being presented at once that it was a bit difficult to follow.
The story reminded me of Encanto, if Encanto was a steamy romcom. I liked the idea but felt it wasn't executed well. Again, I think this book suffered from having too much going on.
Perhaps if some things were cut out or given more room to breath I would have liked this more.

Sadly, a fun idea that I think needed a few more drafts. The tell-all, breaking the fourth wall approach has been done better; it seemed like a zero draft here.

Witcha Gonna Do by Avery Flynn
Rating: 4 stars
Steam: 3 chilis
Pub Date: 12/6

Tilda Sherwood is a member of one of the most powerful witching families in Witchingdom, even though she herself has no powers. She’s what they call an outre, or a witch with no magic. When she isn’t busy managing her family’s social media account, she’s out looking for love. But somehow, she keeps getting matched with her nemesis, Gil. What she doesn’t know is that Gil is a double agent trying to keep his family safe by proving that Tilda is who she says she Digging up dirt on her and her powerful family is the only way he can get his family out of exile and somewhere the Council can’t find them, but his feelings for her are starting to get in the way of his mission.

I love witchy romance and high fantasy, so this hit the mark for me. It’s a fun, small-town, enemies-to-lovers romance with great chemistry and hilarious banter among the main characters. The world-building is top-notch, and I loved getting thrown into its chaos right away. Full of magical creatures, a government conspiracy, a heist, and a high-speed chase involving a train, this book felt fresh and exciting, and I couldn't put it down! Flynn snuck in some very steamy, open-door scenes, too, which you all know is what I’m really here for.

While this book is light and fun, there is a LOT going on and very little explanation about the who and why of this land. I’m still confused about a couple of things and this world. I’m intrigued enough after reading the teaser for the next book that I’ll definitely be picking it up, though, and hopefully, some of my questions will be answered.

Overall, I enjoyed Tilda and Gil’s story, and I look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you, Berkley Romance, NetGalley, and Valentine PR, for my advanced copy! Witcha Gonna Do is available today.

Wasn't a huge fan of the characters breaking the third wall - it felt odd at time. I enjoyed the dual POVs but something still felt lackluster.

Romance was okay - didn't feel a huge connection was made between the two main characters but overall enjoyable.
