3.5 I'm usually a reader who has a hard time suspending belief and this book certainly requires some of that. It's why I seldom read fantasy or science fiction, just have a hard time going there. So I was surprised when I found myself totally interested in this audio. Since I had Covid a few months back I've had a harder time concentrating on the written word. Hence, my reading has gotten much slower and I've become addicted to audio. Would I have liked this as much if I had read instead of listening?

A mother's love, protectiveness and the fluidity of time. Interesting subjects and wrapped inside a unique framing. Possible? Probably not, but I know many people who wish it was so.

Loved the narration by Lesley Sharp.

𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒂 𝒎𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒅? Jen waits up for her 17 year old son to come home on the cusp of his curfew. As she begins to worry, she finally sees him from her window, but she then notices he’s not alone. Before she knows it, her son kills a stranger on the street and is soon taken away by the police. Jen can’t make sense of what’s happened and when she’s finally home from the station, she falls asleep completely shattered.

When Jen wakes, she realizes that it’s the day before the crime has been commitment, and she’s reliving the day. The “next” morning is the day before that, and Jen is living time backwards in order to figure out why this crime will be committed.

This book was awesome! The backwards timeline totally hooked me and I loved seeing how far the storyline went back. Wrong Place, Wrong Time was fast-paced, intriguing, and complex in both the plot and the family relationships.

McAllister will definitely be an author I look out for in the future!

This was a very ....interesting audiobook. I went in to it going 'oh wow another murder mystery, I love those' but was definitely not expecting the time travel aspect. I don't mind those (I loved Outlander), but it really threw me off and took me a longer time than usual to wrap my head around it.

When all's said and done, this was a solid 3 stars. I really loved the ending tied everything up with a bow. I could have done without the epilogue though, I think that was a little unnecessary.

WOW! This book starts with a bang and just keeps hitting in a completely original mystery told in reverse as a mother witnesses her son murder someone and then starts going back in time learning bits and pieces of what led to the events of that horrible day.

Completely mind-blowing from start to end, this is an unputdownable book that I absolutely LOVED!! I can't say too much without giving away spoilers but trust me, this is going to be a best book of the year that you don't want to miss - Reese's Book club picked another winner! Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!!

I have been reading a lot of domestic suspense/thrillers lately but none with as unique a storyline as Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. I will definitely be adding this to my top reads of the year so far!

The story opens when Jen is waiting up for her son to come home and watches in horror as he stabs a stranger outside their home. She wakes up the next morning in a time loop and is determined to alter the course of events leading up to her son’s arrest. As the story moves backwards in time, Jen learns more and more until she is finally able to uncover the truth.

All I can say is wow! The story had me from the first page. As a mother, I could feel Jen‘s anguish and desperation to try and understand what could make her son a murderer and the commitment to protect him at all cost. As we follow the timeline we see the relationship between mother-and-son unfold and this was emotional for me as every mother questions whether they did enough to raise their child right.

The characters will were well-crafted and the pacing, twists and aha moments were well plotted. I did listen to the audio. The narrator was great and the story was easy to follow, despite the backwards timeline.

Thank you, Harper Audio for the gifted audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Jen witnesses her son commit a murder and then wakes up in the past. As the story progresses, she keeps going back in time but continues to learn more about her son’s crime.

This was my first Gillian McAllister book and I enjoyed her writing style and the quick pace of the story. Time travel certainly isn’t a new idea but I’ve never read about it in a thriller so it was an interesting concept. What lost me were the multiple time jumps and repetitive nature of the story. Sadly, I wasn’t invested in the characters so I did struggle to get through this book.

The audiobook narrator, Lesley Sharp, did a wonderful job and I enjoyed her voice.

This book was so unique in the way it was written. I could not stop listening to this audio book. You start with today when a crime is committed, but then the narrator, Jen, moves back in time. It was so intriguing to move back in time not knowing what Jen would find out with each new day or how far back it would go. It was interesting all of the things that she noticed when she relived those days and the new questions that she asked, and to see if the changes she made would change the future outcome. There were several plot twists that I didn't see coming. I really enjoyed this story and Lesley Sharp, the narrator of the audio book.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book from Harper Audio through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

3.5 stars. Listened on audio.

I was really excited to read this book after learning it’s to be a celebrity book club pick for August.  (That hasn’t yet been announced, so I won’t spoil which one it is here.) Thank you so much to @harperaudio for the advanced listening copy.

This was an entertaining book, and when I first started it, I simply could not stop listening.  I loved the unique premise of traveling back in time day by day (and sometimes more) to solve a crime in reverse.  However, about halfway through, I just felt that it became repetitive and a bit long-winded.

With that said, I did really enjoy the book and do recommend it.  There were a few drawbacks for me, but I’m still glad I read it.  I do love a good time travel narrative, and this one was definitely unique and 100% mind-boggling in the very best way.

My thanks to @harperaudio and @netgalley for the opportunity to read this book before its publication date.

This is a rare example of one of those books for me that slowly got more confusing as I read; and typically that isn’t the case. I loved the premise; and I was really telling everyone as I was reading the first 20-30% how great this book was; a woman sees her son murder a man, sees him taken to prison, and then she wakes up and it’s the day before the murder has happened…I mean that’s just bloody brilliant….but she gets trapped in this weird time loop and then starts waking up earlier and earlier and I lost interest in the plot. Idk. It was still a decent book, I went back and forth on giving this a 3 or a 4, and I’m rounding up but I may still change my mind in a day or two 😂

3.5 ⭐️

What would you do if you could stop a horrific event from taking place? How far back in time would you go to do so?

Ahhh this book was so great! I don’t want to give too much away so you can enjoy every minute of it what you read it. Jen witnesses her son commit murder. She then wakes up the next day and it is the day before. This continues to happen going further and further back in time. While in the past, Jen tries to figure out the reasons behind it all to try to change the outcome of her son’s future. I really enjoyed the cleverness and thought that went into creating this. It was a page turner that I could not put down. The plot twists were great, and I was deeply invested in the characters. I really enjoyed the time travel aspect. This was one of the better thrillers of this year. Pick up Wrong Place Wrong Time and read it!

This was my first Gillian McAllister book and I loved it! It reminded me a little bit of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle (which I also loved).

The story gripped me right away and kept me engaged.

What a nice surprise this turned out to be!

This may go down as my favorite mystery of the year. As I read I couldn’t stop feeling like I was reading a Lisa Jewel novel. The writing was similar. Also, the way McAllister made Jenny and her actions so relatable.

This is a slower burn in the way the pieces of the puzzle come together, but I loved the originality of it. So many fun twists that literally had me gasping out loud.

Only ‘niggle’ I have is that I thought Jenny took a lil too long in figuring out one major piece of the puzzle. Audio was fantastic & I really loved when Lesley Sharp had to use an American accent! She did it perfectly. This was my first time reading McAllister, but I will definitely be adding more to my list. Easy 5 stars!

Have you ever wished you could go back in time and correct a mistake? In this intriguing thriller, that's exactly what happens to Jen, when she witnesses her son involved in a horrifying situation. The next morning it's the day before she witnessed the accident, and each day continues to go into the past, until Jen can figure out what happened and fix it, but will it destroy her present?

Fantastic read!! All the stars!!!

As a mother of three boys, I had a lot of empathy for this mom. When she wakes up one night and hears a commotion outside the house, of course she looks outside and can't believe that she sees her teenage son stab a man, who then dies. You would think that this story is about how their lives are changed by this night and her son's life is basically over. However, when Jen, mom, wakes up a day before this event takes place, it's now a story of what ifs, can Jen change what happened? Is she going to continue to wake up further in the past? Will she be able to find out who this man was and how Todd, her son, is invovled? I'm not a sci-fi, time-traveler fan but somehow, this story just works and was really an enjoyable suspensful mystery. The excellent narration certainly added to this thriller.

It was very interesting twist, but I was confuse listening to it. Could not keep track of who is who and their connection between characters as well as between past and future

This book was absolutely fabulous. I was on the edge of my seat and didn’t put it down all day. Five stars. Until the last ten pages which almost ruined the whole book for me. Oh well. The narrator was excellent.

(3.5 stars rounded up to 4)

I want to start by saying that I believe this book would read MUCH better physically versus audio (the version I read). I found the storyline a bit difficult to follow at first but after a few chapters it became easier.

That being said, this storyline was wildly unique. The time-loop concept put a new twist on figuring out the mystery and I really enjoyed it. While there were some parts that I found a bit wordy, I do think the author did a great job of laying out all of the groundwork at a good pace. And the ending was a total shock which is always a plus for me. Overall, I would recommend this to suspense/mystery readers but definitely in physical format.

What would you do if you saw your son murder someone? What if you had a chance to go back in time? What would you do? Jen is confronted with this possibility, and she must hurry to figure out the truth and try to prevent her son from becoming a murderer.

This book was a pleasure to listen to. The first half was a little slow, but it sure did pick up toward the end! I loved how the author led us to believe one thing, making the one character seem so untrustworthy. And then at the, a reminder that family is everything and the length that some would go to protect their own is so great. This was a gripping and exciting read, and the audiobook did not lose any of the excitement. 4.5 stars out of 5, rounding up to 5 on goodreads!

A great big thank you to NetGalley, Harper Audio, and Gillian McAllister for providing me with this gifted audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

What would you do to save the ones you love?

While waiting for her son Todd to return home from a night out, Jen Brotherhood witnesses him murder a man in the street. After he is arrested and taken to the police station that night, Jen goes to sleep and wakes up the next morning, which is the day before the murder. From then on, every night she goes to sleep, she wakes up further in the past. She is caught in a time loop and must figure out why her son committed the murder in order to prevent it from happening. Following the clues all the way to the beginning, Jen hopes to figure out the puzzle and change her son’s future.

This is my third Gillian McAllister thriller and it did not disappoint! I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Lesley Sharp. Her British accent is somewhat difficult to understand, but she does a fantastic reading, so I was able to stay with it.

This Groundhog’s Day premise is engaging from the first chapter. I did figure out part of the twist, but it may not be as obvious to those who are new to this genre. This was a five star read until the last minute of the book, as the ending felt rushed. The reader deserves a more detailed explanation into why the time loop was initiated!

Overall, this book will have you questioning the choices you make and their unintended consequences. It will likely appeal to those who enjoy twisty sci-fi thrillers.

4/5 stars
