Thank you to Net Galley for the advanced reader audio version of this book. Wow! I love all the going back in time solving mysteries piece by piece. This is a fabulous original story told in a very original manner. Great narrator as well. 5 stars.
Thank you Netgalley & Harper Audio for an ALC of Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister.
Can you stop a murder after it's already happened? It's late October and after midnight, and Jen is waiting up for her 17 year old son to get home. When she spots him - She witnesses him kill a stranger, right on the street. Who is he? And why? She falls asleep that night and wakes up...and it is the day before. Each day Jen wakes up it is a day or more prior - The answer to who and why lies in the past, and she has no choice but to find it.
I was undecided about this book before requesting it - and I am SO happy I did. This is an extremely unique thriller that is truly mind-bending. The groundhog day concept is executed perfectly and I have no idea how Gillian managed to keep all of the details in line and delivered in a pace that is satisfying and jaw-dropping.
The narrator on this one is SPOT ON. I'll be picking up a physical copy for my shelves on pub day.
How would you like to live your life backwards from a traumatic event in order to stop that event? Some unexpected twists. Interesting story.
Huge props to the author for writing this book. It was so well done and so well thought out! After reading the synopsis I thought I knew what this book would be about but it was so much more than just stopping a crime before it was committed. It’s about family, a mother son relationship, a husband wife relationship, and rethinking what being a good mom means. I was prepared for repetition in this book since it is like Groundhogs day but to my pleasant surprise there was zero repetition. The author explained everything once then trusted the reader to have been paying attention. I love when authors don’t hold your hand and over explain things.
This book is one that you absolutely need to go into knowing NOTHING. I honestly didn’t see the ending coming. Like I said above, I thought I knew how it was going to play out but it kept surprising me. Some things I was able to figure out based on the clues but others I had no idea which just added to my overall enjoyment of the book. I would definitely recommend this one. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life. The book was well written, the pacing was on point, and the characters were all developed well.
Thank you so much @harperaudio for the gifted copy on #netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such a clever plot! It was so twisty, complex, but still easy to follow. My mind was blown with all the twists and turns I never saw coming. The characters were believable and interesting and I wanted to solve this about as much as our MC did.
I loved the concept of going back in time to uncover secrets. This was so well done and really kept things fresh for me. It was really intriguing to think about Jen being able to relive past experiences through a different lens knowing what happens in the future, and analyzing these events in detail rather than just experiencing them as they happen. It really puts in perspective the things you might miss in the moment and how your perception of these events can change over time.
Thank you to @netgalley and Harper audio for the ALC of this twisty novel in exchange for an honest review!

4.5 stars
Jen watches from her window as her teenage son stabs a stranger. The next day Jen wakes up and it is the day before the murder. Every day Jen moves back in time as she gathers clues about her life and family on why her son killed someone.
This book was so interesting and a great twist on the usual mystery and time travel story. I highly recommend reading Wrong Place Wrong Time.
Excellent narration by Lesley Sharp.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for a completely different perspective on a mystery working backwards into the past to identify the cause and effect of decisions. Imagining being able to do this in our lives, what would we leave untouched? What would we influence? What would a mother do to protect her child? Plausible? Maybe, but the ride was engaging and schocking.
Every once in awhile I come across a truly clever and gifted author who constructs a uniquely written book and this is a prime example of such. The protagonist, Jen, witnesses her teenage son murder a man who is a complete stranger to her. Her son is arrested and the next day Jen wakes up expecting the nightmare to continue. Instead, she has gone backwards in time. As each day regresses, Jen seeks to find the answers to why her son murdered this man and why she is reliving her life backwards.
This book is amazingly well-written and intense. I did have a bit more trouble focusing on the audio version than I did the print version. I had to replay sections several times and really concentrate so I didn't miss anything.
With that said, this was exquisitely crafted and I can't imagine how much time and finesse it took to accomplish this original plot. Not many authors could pull this off so successfully. As each chapter progresses, readers and Jen alike are given insight into this overlying and very deeply rooted and complex mystery. The ending is beyond brilliant and will have readers gasping and wanting more. I feel like for me, the print version of this was better.
I'm a sucker for a twisty mystery and this is about as twisty as you can get! The story begins with Jen witnessing her son stab a man to death in front of their home one night. After the son is arrested and she and her husband return home from the police station, they go to bed and the following morning she wakes up the day before the murder - and the next day she wakes up the day before that, and so on and so on. This was such a unique timeline as Jen moves further back in time trying to figure out what is happening and how to stop it. A couple of the twists you can see coming, but others come out of nowhere and the epilogue was a great final twist. I truly enjoyed the narrator and can't wait to recommend this book. Thank you to HarperAudio and NetGalley for the early listen.
Loved the mixed of a traditional domestic thriller with a sci-fi twist. Although it took a bit to get into it was well worth it. Great pay off.
As Jen waits up late at night for her 18 year old son, Todd, to make it home she finds herself witnessing him commiting a murder and getting arrested. Her whole life feels shattered and she immediately reflects if there was anything she could have done differently to stop this from happening.
Jen then starts to wake up each day futher in the past. Can she solve the tangled web of events that lead to that tragic night and now far back must she go to discovery the truth?
The only drawback I had was in the middle it started to feel repetitive but the story really picked up in the last 25%.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Audio for an advanced audiobook for review.
Jen’s life is turned upside down the night she witnessed her teenaged son, Todd, murder a stranger on the street. She’s helpless and devastated, knowing her son’s life is also over. Sleep did not come easy, but it did. When Jen wakes the next morning, full of dread over the situation she and her family would be navigating, she’s shocked to find herself reliving the day before the murder. Jen is stuck in a time loop and the only way out is to prevent the murder from occurring.
The less you know about this twisty and exciting tale the better. Jen’s journey back in time is journey of discovery. Full of surprises both delightful and sinister. A story told backwards, Wrong Place, Wrong Time peels back the layers of Jen’s past in order to explain the present and potentially save her future.
One late night, as Jen is waiting for her teen son to get home, she witnesses him killing an older man in the street outside their house. Somehow the shock and despair of witnessing this act sends her into a time loop, sending her farther and farther back in time to experience days that are significant to explaining the murder. Really well written thriller, and interesting to consider what you would do if given a second chance at parts of your life.
Um, WOW?? I went into this one blind, knowing nothing about it, but good God, this one had me absolutely RIVETED! The twists and turns and frustration of not just a time loop, but the twist in the time loop trope, was fascinating. I blew through this, I couldn't stop, and I actually look forward to not only reading it again down the line, but also hand selling this one like crazy. Wow wow wow, yes I loved it.
This is without a doubt the most bizarre, mind-bending and unique books Ive read, recently.
It is sometimes aggravating, sometimes toe-curling thrilling, sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes a source of great hope.
The characters are written incredibly well, considering they are written in a way that they can't change overtime, but have to almost, unchange.
The MC is so lost and confused in what is happening and having to be so completely alone in it.
The love of a mother. The merciless creep of time bending all to its will, and all the secrets and thrills you'd want.
There were times it was a bit meandering, long-winded. But it was worth it- if not for the novelty of the structure- let alone the story.
Gillian McAllister should be an auto-buy for collections where thrillers and suspense. Excellent in all formats.
A mother is caught in a time loop that’s as terrifying as it is inexplicable. She witnesses her son murder a man for what seems to be no reason. The next thing she knows, it’s the day before and everything is “still normal “. From there, each day forward throws her father back in time until she uncovers the terrifying truth about that deadly night. Slick and clever
