Is this your chance at freedom? Erin hopes that this is the place that she will free safe as she can't keep on running. But will she ever really be safe from her ex husband Mark? She knows that his family will never stop looking for her as they believe that she betrayed their son. She knows that Mark is in jail but she can't stop the nightmares or the panic.
Misty Cliffs is exactly what Erin & her dog Fenix need they have a cute cottage and Erin is about to open her own dog grooming business so things are looking good. If only she could stop the threaten phone calls.
She hires someone to work with her in the store Alicia and they become firm friends until one day that she doesn't show up for work. Erin has tried everywhere looking for her and she just knows that something bad has happened.
Did the local man whore Dominic have anything to do with her disappearance or was it Cordelia who wouldn't leave Alicia alone?
Erin knows that she has to find justice for Alicia as she had her whole life ahead of her and she won't rest until they find out who killed her. But now that another victim has been found, Erin doesn't know who is safe anymore.
Will the killer come after her next or will Mark get to her first?
A good intense read. Loved the characters as they each brought something to the read. Erin really deserves a break and a safe place to stay. Hopefully she gets that.
Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for the ARC copy. A really enjoyable story. This is my voluntary review.

Mastering fear starts with a decision and Erin Caldwell has just made a really scary choice. She’s about to find out that her courage will be tested.

Erin relocates to Misty Cliffs, King James Island, after divorcing her husband when he is incarcerated for trying to kill her. The small island is “perfect for a fresh start,” and Erin is determined to fit it and make the most of it. She fled Pittsburg with her dog, Fenix, and a dream of opening a dog grooming shop on the main street.

Just as she’s settling in, she meets an obnoxious guy, Dominic Martin, who always seems to be pushing his way into her life making her uneasy and then she discovers that her ex-husband, Mark Knox, is to be released from prison. When she thinks it can’t get any worse, she finds out that there’s a killer loose on the island. It gets worse. Can she outrun her past or has it followed her?

This is a chilling, twisty thriller that explores the dark side of love and obsession. Baxter is known for shocking readers with his final reveal and he doesn’t disappoint here.

Dog lovers will love this one!

You’ll have to read to find out who was betrayed and by whom!

I was gifted this advance copy by Cole Baxter, Inkubator Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
