Once again, Neil Lancaster with his character - DS Max Craigie has provided a thrilling book with a gripping story line full of plot twists!! A must read book that will keep you in suspense right to the end!! Neil gives you enough hints that make you think that you are there but again it does a full circle away, lol!!
Wow! Max Craigie and his team are back in this amazing book and they bring with it a little bit of everything! A murder, a suicide, some suspense, intrigue, action, police, dead lawyers, twists, turns, a bit of corruption and serial killers! It would make an fantastic mini series.
Although this is part of the Max Craigie series, it reads well as a standalone book and is a real page turner too
What an excellent read. Loved it, brilliant storyline with all the regular characters. Mr Lancaster is certainly at the top of his storytelling game. This is the book that you are desperate to finish so you know ‘who did it’ but on the other hand you don’t want it to come to an end. Don’t start it unless you have time to finish it! Would give it 6 seats if I could.
Criminals are getting away with murder, before getting murderer themselves. All these cases the to one major investigation team. Coincidence? Or is something more sinister going on. DCS Max Craigie and his team are focused on finding corruption in the Force, and he doesn't believe in coincidences. A fast paced cop thriller so the several surprises and a final twist I didn't see coming. Neil Lancaster has delivered a cracking follow up to the earlier going back.
Loved it!
Following a serial killer who is clearly on the inside of the investigation leads to all sorts of presumptions being made by the reader, which I failed miserably at (as I was probably led to do) leaving the reveal of the perpetrator a real surprise!
A fantastic read!
For once I would recommend that you do believe the hype as The Night Watch is an excellent rollercoaster of a read with numerous twists and turns that will keep you hooked from the first to the last page.
Highly recommended
Eagerly anticipated third outing with Max Craigie. If there’s a better police series out there I’d be most surprised. It moves at such a fast pace. Two men have been killed. One who’d got off a sent an r and the other was his lawyer. But there’s no evidence. Seems one of them was tasered but again no clues. An undercover policeman is brought in from the Met to infiltrate Marnie Gray’s team but nasty things happen to him. This would make such a good tv series. Thank you
This is the first time I’ve read a Neil Lancaster book and after this I’ll undoubtedly be reading more. This was a superb police procedural featuring a team with a more unusual role and the level of police corruption they were investigating was terrifying. I loved the team dynamics, definitely want to read the previous books featuring them, and the story was very engaging - total page turner. The team they were investigating had some great characters and the murders so clinical. The end was a revelation and very twisted, loved it!
Wow! What a crazy story! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, and a few crazy serial killers! It had kind of a who done it too! The storyline was very interesting and gave me the chills at times, there were some crazy crazy characters! It definitely kept me glued to my kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Amazing edge of your seat type of book, highly recommended and the characters are well drawn. I could not put it down until the ending. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.
My thoughts about Neal Lancaster’s The Night Watch, it’s hard to put into words how phenomenal Neal Lancaster’s third book in the DS Max Craigie series The Night Watch is. I have read many brilliant thrillers, and The Night Watch is one of them. Even the word brilliant isn’t enough to put into words how good this series is. This is not just a thriller series about cops and drug dealers in the country of Scotland, this is a rich, nuanced fresco showing the reality of our society. It’s complex, fascinating. Neal Lancaster’s The Night Watch is captivating from the opening chapter, The Night Watch is without a doubt one of the best thrillers written this year. Writer Neil Lancaster yet again delivers another thriller that is fantastic. The story of The Night Watch begins with a lawyer is found dead at sunrise on a lonely clifftop at Dunnet Head on the northernmost tip of Scotland. It was supposed to be his honeymoon, but now his wife will never see him again. The case is linked to several mysterious deaths, including the murder of the lawyer’s last client – Scotland’s most notorious criminal. who had just walked free. DS Max Craigie knows this can only mean one thing: they have a vigilante serial killer on their hands. But this time the killer isn’t on the run; he’s on the investigation team. And the rules are different when the murderer is this close to home. He knows their weaknesses, knows how to stay hidden, and he thinks he’s above the law. You want to learn something about city politics, police corruption, drug dealing or how this tapestry of city corruption is woven together then read Neal Lancaster’s DS Max Craigie series. This is truly an excellent series, with superb storyline and writing and truly outstanding characters. Neal Lancaster’s third outing The Night Watch is one of the best books I ever read. I would like to say a big thank you to Neal Lancaster, for writing such an amazing book, Belinda Toor from HQ Stories for giving me a chance to read and review this amazing book I’ve enjoyed reading on NetGalley. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥
Max Craigie really wants an uncomplicated life, still suffering from PTSD, both from his service in Afghanistan and during his work as a DS with Police Scotland. But his unit is specialised, answering only to the Chief Constable, and when he tasks them to investigate two deaths connected by a Not Proven result at court, you know it’s not going to be easy.
Max Craigie and his team return for another fast paced, intricately plotted and twisted read, which goes along at such speed you can sit there forgetting to breathe. His characters always have background stories that make them feel like real people, Neil Lancaster is an author I always look out for as you know that his books will feel realistic and well researched, always making you want to read another book by him immediately. This one is a stand alone read but I would recommend reading them in order, to get the full background. Loved it.
Max Craigie and his team are back! When the suspect of a heinous crime is found "not proven", and both he and his lawyer turn up dead in the space of 24 hours, it appears a vigilante is on the loose - those who were acquitted are being targeted, and it's up to a secretive team to get to the bottom of who could have committed the crimes - as it appears they may be closer than expected.
This is another great book in the series - it works wonderfully as a standalone but there are also threads from the other two books that continue here. I was pleasantly surprised by the big reveal - happy to say I was misled! An easy 5* book for me.
Two men are found dead, hundreds of miles apart; one clearly a murder, the other ostensibly suicide, but the men are connected, and all forensic evidence is absent from the scene. DS Max Craigie's team are tipped off by an investigative journalist that maybe the culprit is someone inside the force, and they are deployed officially to carry out a review, whilst in reality investigating the Major Incident Team responsible for investigating the crimes. Using all the tech and know-how at their disposal, they set about trailing their suspect...
I am new to this series, and on this evidence I will certainly be seeking out the earlier two novels. Great characterisation and believable relationships between the members of the team are at the heart of this carefully plotted and utterly satisfying novel, with its surprising twists. That Max in particular has an existence away from the police procedural, and that he and his DC Janie have interesting back stories that impact their actions in the novel lifts this above many other crime thrillers. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will happily read more of Neil Lancaster's novels.
