Hotshot lawyer Rebecca Madison is dreading the annual family Thanksgiving break, fearing the typical questions about her single status. So she decides to take matters into her own hands, and enlists her one night stand, Hudson, to pose as her new boyfriend. She has is all planned out with a contract, stipulating every aspect from no kissing to no emotional attachment. Yet, when they spend time together, she realises that her feelings might have change and the contract might be null and void.
Definitely a steamy romance between these two lead characters, which did tend to dominate the story. Whilst a great story, it did tend to stray from being a romantic comedy to more of an adult book. Rebecca was definitely a strong character who whilst determined in business, did soften as her relationship with Hudson developed. Hudson was definitely the charmer, and his ability to win over everyone he met, gave Rebecca self-confidence in her personal life. An entertaining read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A well used trope, but it totally worked in this case. Rebecca had a tough outlook and a tough family situation; Hudson and his family were a nice foil to that. Very steamy story, which will be too much for some readers (and probably not enough for others!).
LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. Right from the start I was hooked and couldn't stop reading. Such a fun sexy christmas romcom.
Thank you to the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. This post contains minor spoilers.
This book was amazing! Love Under Contract is about Rebecca, a hot shot lawyer who needs to relax, and Hudson, the furniture designer she has a one night stand with. Except that one night stand turns into a fake relationship in front of Rebecca's family...and then a fake relationship in front of Hudson's family. And we all know what happens then. Not to mention the one-bed trope is here twice.
My favorite part of this book was watching Rebecca's character change. In the very beginning Rebecca (or Becs as Hudson calls her) is very uptight. She's a super successful contract lawyer and she doesn't have time to play around. She's in a bar in a suit! But as her relationships with Hudson and the side characters change, she starts to let loose. In one of the final scenes she wears a scarlet suit! Unheard of!
I loved seeing her relationship with her family change. I saw some aspects of myself in her which made it all the more enjoyable. The changes were natural and didn't feel forced or forgotten when it was convenient. Really well done.
I can't review this book without talking about Hudson. Love of my life, I swear. He's everything you could want in a boyfriend: handsome, kind, attentive, funny, charismatic, good with parents, even better in bed. The list goes on. He helped Rebecca grow and, even though there were a couple tough conversations, it never felt forceful. He wanted her to change for her first and himself second. It was so sweet.
This is such a cute book and it's perfect for the holiday season. Get your copy now!
I was looking for a cute and cozy holiday romcom and this one totally delivered! I normally don’t like love/lust at first sight but this was fun to read. Rebecca’s younger sister is getting married to her ex so she needs a fake date for the engagement party and holiday season. Enter Hudson, a furniture designer she meets at a hotel bar one night.
This book made me laugh out loud and I love all the classic romcom references! If I’m being honest, Rebecca wasn’t my favorite at times but I did really love the relationship between her and Hudson. I loved that she could truly be herself around him instead of solely being focused on her career and who people expected her to be. Hudson and his entire family were the best and his sisters made the story for me! Seeing Rebecca spend Christmas with his family had me smiling from ear to ear. The premise is nothing grounbreaking but still fun nonetheless and who doesn’t love some fake dating? There are some aspects of the plot I wasn’t a huge fan of like the ending and Rebecca never coming clean to Hudson’s sisters but if you overlook that this was a light holiday read.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, and Cassie Connor for this eARC in exchange for my honest review! This book is out now and I definitely recommend it for the holiday season.
Rebecca is going to visit her family for thanksgiving. She is single and while her career is going great, she knows that everyone will be asking about her relationship status, especially when her sister will be there too, and she is engaged to her ex.
She meets a hot guy at the bar and has a one-night stand. She makes a deal with him. He will accompany her on the trip and pretend to be her bf, so she will get the family of her back. She even writes the contract for them, with her terms and conditions.
Far away from home, spending a lot of time together, visiting attractions, getting to know each other and all of those teams fly out of the window.
It's not all that straightforward and easy.
I loved the story, I read it in one sitting and smiled all throughout. Rebecca can be a little bit cold and very set on following the rules and forgetting her heart.
Hudson on the other side is the complete opposite. He is a furniture designer, comes from a big loving family and has an uncanny ability to make friends everywhere he goes.
They are perfect for each other, only if they both realize how well they fit. :)
Also, it's very steamy. :)
Intense, hot and just a bit predictàble, but it will make you smile and want to cheer the main characters on. I couldn't put it down!
A funny, cosy and steamy romance - what more could you want at this time of year?
Workaholic lawyer Rebecca has to fly to New York for Thanksgiving and to celebrate her sister's engagement to her ex-boyfriend. Without a date she dreads the pitying looks and questions from family members, she decides to ask the guy she just had a one night stand with to come with her (for a price).
Cassie Connor's writing is engaging, amusing and keeps you turning the pages even when you know the outcome. Would highly recommend to anyone not afraid of a little bit of steam in their season romances.

Guys, this book just came out and you should run to it! It was cute and quirky. Inside jokes and amazing families.

Rebecca is in desperate need for a date to go home after she learns her sister has gotten engaged. Enter the handsome furniture maker!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hudson is the perfect person to help Becs unwind and live a little! Romantic moments galore here 🥰 I love a good uptight character who is a softie for just that one person. Usually you see it with the guy being uptight though so I really liked this for a change of pace.

Highly recommend going to get yourself this book. I don’t think anyone will regret it!

I seriously didn't like this book. It was really cute in some aspects but Rebecca, throughout the book, made some really bad decisions and I couldn't connect with her. I mean I couldn't understand her point of view and why she chose to do the things she was called for, and I can't understand if it's Rebecca's fault or poor writing choices from the author. Overall 3.5 stars, round up.
This book was such a light, quick holiday season read. Rebecca and Hudson had such cute chemistry. Plus Hudson was literally the sweetest. I loved the parts when they were visiting family so much.
My cons mostly have to do with Rebecca and her choices throughout the book. I just really couldn’t see her side of things.
The scene at the exhibit (vague but I don’t want to spoil) was completely out of no where and was never spoken of again. I really didn’t like that part and feel like it really didn’t fit with his personality throughout the rest of the book.
3.5 stars!
Song: You’re so vain by Carly Simon
💋 summary: Rebecca receives the news that her younger sister is getting married… to her Ex. Thankfully the stranger at the bar is more than willing to distract her for the night. He’s hot, more than confident, and the ideal one night stand. Only Rebecca decided to make it more than one night. She doesn’t want to go home for the holidays alone, so she decides to write up a contract for a no strings, no sex, fake boyfriend for the holidays.
💋recommend to:
- fans of spicy reads
- someone looking for a fun read
- fans of the fake dating trope
💋 my thoughts: it was fun, nothing ground breaking but I couldn’t put it down. I liked Becca, but sometimes felt she looked down her nose too much. I normally don’t like lust at first sight but this was fun! Definitely not as holiday as I was expecting but a light read nonetheless!
I’m a sucker for a hallmark Christmas movie or sappy romance, and this book totally hit the spot. I’m ready for all things Christmas romance, and even better, this book had one of my favorite tropes: fake dating.
I’m pretty sure this is Cassie Connor’s debut novel, and what a debut! I’m in awe, and I cannot wait for more!!
I literally laughed and giggled aloud whilst reading this book. It’s got all the feel good factors a great book needs together with well thought out characters and wonderful dollops of romance. If you need an escape from the Christmas mayhem then grab a glass of wine or a cup of hot chocolate, sit in your favourite comfy chair and treat yourself to a day of bliss. Love love loved this book!
This was a really fun book to read the characters were very fun and enjoyable and likable mostly and I love to discover new authors I haven't read before
give me ALLLLLL the fake dating christmas books please and thank you
Hotshot lawyer Rebecca Madison is dreading the annual family Thanksgiving break where the question on everyone’s lips will be ‘why are you still single?’.
When it comes to her career, she’s the best of the best, hired for her take-no-prisoners approach and sharp instincts. But when it comes to her love life…well, she hasn’t found the loophole for happy ever after yet.
So when she has a one night stand with a gorgeous stranger she meets in a bar, Becca decides to do what she does best: make a deal with Mr One Night to be her Mr Right (just for the holidays).
With an iron-clad contract setting out the terms for their fake relationship, Becca has one important point. Clause 1.a. No kissing, no sex (as mind-blowing as it was), and absolutely no emotional attachment!
But five thousand miles from home and spending every waking moment in the company of a man who makes her feel things she’s never felt before, just how easy will it be for Becca to stick to her own rules…
Sexy and steamy I couldn’t put this book down and read it in one go until 2.30am! Not predictable as expected. A couple of loose ends I wasn’t happy about but overall a great novel.
A new spicy author to add to the list 🌶️🌶️
I love reviewing debuts, especially when they come with a bang like this one! Hook me once ill be loyal for life ♥️
Despite this being a spicy rom com, this wasn't just all spice and no flavour. The connection between the characters was developed well and I loved seeing it unfold amongst all the christmassy vibes. Deffo one for the Christmas eve box!
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh one moment then fan yourself the next this book is for you. From the moment you begin reading you will be taken on a wild ride that you will not be able to get off of. If you like fake dating books with heat but lots of humor too then this book is for you. You will fall in love with Rebecca and Hudson and their story. Thanks NetGalley. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One word…. Adorable. If you are a sucker for a Hallmark Christmas movie, or if your guilty pleasure is a sappy romance, I have one right here for you!
This book is seriously cute. This story follows Becca (or as we’ll get to know her… “Becs” 😉 ) and Hudson, a pair who meet in a bar. He’s totally not her normal type, but he’s very hunky- she wouldn’t mind a little time with this guy. With immediate spice, a genuine (yet unfamiliar to Becca) connection, and of course- a contract at hand, these two defy some odds and us readers get the pleasure of embarking with them on their journey.
I would be inclined to say, this book is highly comparable to a grumpyXsunshine trope- not in that anyone’s overly “grumpy” per se, but Becca has a lot of personal obstacles to overcome, has had past betrayal, a questionable homelife, and because of it all, is a bit reserved. Can Hudson persevere and conquer over Becca’s normal ways, or will the contract be broken?
