Oleana is in hiding. Working as a housekeeper in an Earl's home, she it totally out of her element as she knows nothing about the job. The butler is trying to have her fired. To his chagrin, her traitor of a cat has taken a liking to the Earl. Add in the attraction between Oleana and Montieth, which given her current position in his household, is totally taboo. Definitely worth the read.
Thank you Kathleen Ayers, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
This book is part of a series but each one can be read as a standalone. I haven't read any of the others. This is a quick read but the story is well paced despite its length. The author conveyed all she needed to without bogging the story down.
I loved the chemistry between Oleana and Montieth, and I am a sucker for a spoiled fat cat, I have three of my own. I have never read anyone so ill equipped to be a housekeeper than Oleana, how she expected to stay hidden is a mystery but it does make for some enjoyable, if predictable moments.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I finally got around to writing the review for Enticing the earl and I love it. The perfect ending to the Arrogant Earls series. Enticing the Earl is filled with rich and colorful characters, witty and at times charming conversation and two MCs who are enthralled with one another. This book is such a fun fun read.
Oleana is hiding from some very shady people. Her ruse....the housekeeper for Jason, the very handsome Earl of Montieth. The problem...she's not a very good housekeeper...and can't seem to keep Carrot, her cat out of the Earl's way.
Jason is a rake...one who knows he must marry to find a mother for his young daughter. As his search for the perfect wife begins, he unhappily finds himself attracted to his red-headed housekeeper. And as she and her cat continuously show up in the most unsuspecting places..sparks and orange fur begin to fly!
I love everything about this series. The characters, the writing...just everything. Pickup this book along with the others in this series for three quick and fun reads.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
Oleana Honeywell has a secret. She's currently the housekeeper for the Earl of Montieth, but she's never worked as one before, and she's ridiculously bad at it. In fact, she is the widow of a country vicar, and is hiding from her in-laws who want to steal her inheritance, and will stop at nothing to get it. Montieth knows that Oleana is hiding something, and he sends his secretary to discover the truth. In the mean time, he sees how loving she is, and how much Oleana cares for his young daughter, and though Monteith needs to marry and have a son, he can't stop thinking about his clumsy housekeeper.
I liked the turn this book took. Oleana was clearly not fit for her role as housekeeper, but it's understandable why she wanted to stay hidden, and as a servant, it was the most obvious thing. Oleana's marriage wasn't too bad, but her in-laws made her life hell after her widowhood, and when it was clear that she had valuable land, they were willing to do whatever it took to get the money for themselves. I felt like Jason needed to be a little stronger than he was, particularly when it came to his mother and his butler, but he had been hurt in his first marriage, and wasn't willing to open himself up too early. The final few chapters were full of action, and Jason proved his worth to Oleana, and was there for her just when she needed him.
The Housekeeper’s Secret
Oleana is a woman with a secret. She is unlike any housekeeper the earl had ever met, and her cat was a menace. However, Jason could not convince himself to get rid of her. What was Oleana’s secret, and why couldn’t he resist her pull?
Oleana found herself drawn to the earl, wanting to share her secret with him. She knew she ought not to fall in love with her employer, but no one could tell a heart what it ought or ought not to do. Should Oleana have shared her secret with the earl? Could he have protected her from what was to come? What would happen when the earl found out the truth? This is a delightful historical romance with suspense and secrets. I enjoyed it and look forward to what comes next by this author.
This is so funny and sweet to me. The plot is not heavy, thus it is suitable for light reading. I really recommend it to those who wants to enjoy a sweet and less drama romance. Love it!
This book pulled me in from the moment I started it! It took me one day to finish it. It was a shorter book but it wasn’t rushed.
Montieth or Jason is an Earl that gave Oleana a job as a housekeeper when she really needed it. Even though she is terrible at the job. She has no clue how to be a housekeeper but she desperately needed the job.
Oleana is lucky and she know it, she doesn’t know how to do the job and her cat keeps wreaking havoc on the Earl. To Oleana he is an intimidating man that never really smiles or shows any human emotions.
He is always brooding. But she is completely enthralled by him and knows that there is no way he could feel the same thing for her.
Jason hides behind his intimidating persona. He is not as mean or cold hearted as he appears, but he is honor bound and he will do anything not to become his father.
Throw into the mix and unruly cat that thinks he owns the house and Oleana's clumsiness, and you've got yourself a recipe for disaster.
As Jason starts to see more of Oleana and her personality he is drawn to her and cannot stop himself. They also have crazy chemistry.
I love the angst of this story, that’s one of my favorite genres. There's also a bit of suspense too.
The only thing that started getting a bit annoying to me was that Oleana literally bumped into everything that she came in contact with. At first it was endearing, after a while it just started drive me a bit crazy.
The butler was such a jerk, always on Oleana's case at every turn, I would have loved to see her put him in his place. But I digress he got what was coming to him.
I enjoyed watching the relationship grow between these two. I would have liked to see a bit more of the Earl's daughter Elizabeth. There wasn’t enough of her to me. But then again I love single parent romance's when the kids play more of a role.
This was such an enjoyable read for me, it took me back to historical times and showed a true love match. Love these tropes.
A short collection is quick reads by My Ayers. I enjoy her in depth narratives but no big complaints her stories and characters are always enjoyable. Full review coming up soon.
I am really enjoying Kathleen Ayers titles and have binged all her backlist and was so happy to get my hands on this early copy! I can't wait for more!
This was an entertaining, fast-moving read. I adored the clumsy, no-idea-how-to-do-the-job heroine, Oleana-- even if I never figured out how to pronounce her name! There was a lot of humor and a good dose of angst in this one. I wanted more of Elizabeth, the hero's adorable daughter! The tea party with Miss Straw and Carrot the cat was absolutely adorable. I really enjoyed this book, as all the books in this series. Fun to see the Huntleys a couple of times! I received this book as an ARC and it does not affect my review of it.
Thank you NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for the chance to read and review Enticing the Earl by Kathleen Ayers!
I can't believe this is the first Kathleen Ayers book I've read! At 166 pages, this was a short book but perfect! The plot was interesting, the story was fast paced, and I would 100% pick up more books by the author! And I love Carrot. He's as chaotic as a cat should be!
Another fabulous read by Ms. Ayers! This is the third installment of The Arrogant Earl series and it is absolutely wonderful. Ms. Ayers does a brilliant job with bringing her stories and characters to life and this one was no different. Oleana is hiding out as a housekeeper in the home of Jason, the Earl of Montieth. She is clumsy and not very good at her guise, but the Earl's daughter Elizabeth adores her and Oleana is equally as fond of her. Jason knows he should not take advantage of the help, but his attraction to Oleana is strong and he cannot deny his feelings for her. Their mutual attraction is obvious and the chemistry between them absolutely sizzles. Their story is further complicated when Oleana's past catches up with her. There was not a minute during my reading where I was not interested and intrigued. This book captured my attention from the very start and I was hooked till the end, which is typical of any book of Ms Ayers I pick up. The characters were interesting and well-developed and the the storyline flowed smoothly. This is a wonderfully written story with strong and witty characters and I enjoyed every minute of it. I am happy to recommend this book!
I received a complimentary copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Enticing the Earl is the third book in The Arrogant Earls series by Kathleen Ayers and I really enjoyed this one.
Oleanna Honeywell is essentially hiding out in the Earl of Montieth's household but she is struggling in her role as a housekeeper. First because she has no idea what she is doing but secondly, the Earl's butler does not like her. Regardless, she has a bit of security due to the fact that she has won over the Earl's daughter and she spends most of her time with her. It also helps that the Earl is intrigued by her and regardless of what occurs, hasn't yet fired her.
As the story progresses, Oleanna and Montieth's relationship progresses. Montieth struggles with his feelings as he doesn't want to be like his father and with Oleanna technically being an employee, he isn't sure what to do. When we find out just what Oleanna is hiding from and the unthinkable happens, Montieth steps up and does what he needs to in order to save the woman he loves.
I really enjoyed this book and if you haven't read the other books in the series, I recommend you pick them up. They are quick reads with engaging characters and stories...just like this one.
Enticing the Earl builds steam slowly as Oleana and the Earl fight their attraction for one another, a losing battle of course. The author describes the characters in loving, colorful detail. Oleana is in hiding from a vicious, conniving mother-in-law, and has no one else to turn to. Unfortunately, she is entirely unsuited for the housekeeper position and offended the persnickety butler. The chemistry between Oleana and the Earl is off the charts. The plot twists add suspense and mortal danger. Fortunately, the hero in this tale steps up in grand style.
This is book 3 of the Arrogant Earls series.Jason Symon,Earl of Montieth,is oddly attracted to his least subservient, clumsy housekeeper who he suspects isn’t telling the truth about herself.Mrs Oleana Honeywell is biding her time in the Earl of Montieths house until she can escape her horrendous family and live a peaceful life. This is such a great read for a short novella, true to her style Kathleen Ayers has surely delivered in this book.I loved the banter between Oleana and Jason. She always had a great comebacks for everyone. The chemistry between the MCs is very apparent and well done. The Villains are written to be hated. And the steam levels is 🔥.The star of the book for me is Carrot, the corpulent orange cat.Love it.
The love scenes are done well steam level 3🔥.And the epilogue is quite satisfying.I wish this story had been a full length book.
I requested an e-arc of this book and the opinions are my own.
Good story! Fast read. The book is short but you still feel like you know the characters and you get sucked into the story easy! A must read!
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was one of my favorites by Kathleen Ayers. I was waiting for Montieth since we first met him. He reminds me of Granby, whose my favorite, and I have a thing for this specific type of hero. There was wonderful chemistry between Montieth and Oleana. I loved watching them fall in love. There is no one who writes that better than Kathleen does. This was my favorite of the series so far, and can't wait to see who she will write about next.
This series keeps getting better and better. I recommend them.
A great, enjoyable story that I enjoyed reading. Strong, likeable characters. Lovely plot and story. I hope to read more by this author!
4 stars
Our heroine is hiding in a earl's household as the housekeeper. The Butler hates her, she inept at the job but warms to the hero's daughter, not that Montkeith was very heroic at the beginning. Eventually he realises how lovely Oleana is and how much his daughter enjoys her company.
The author tells us that the hero has been a rake before and he eventually succumbs and seduces the delightful widow.
The baddies catch up with her and the butler is complicit. We have to hope that the hero will rescue her in time.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Everything is wrong about this read. No way a housekeeper and an Earl would romance in these early Victorian times and just as unlikely that a fake housekeeper would get a foot inside the door of an earl's household. Yet, it is still a most delightful read. The precocious 6 year old daughter of the Earl, Lady Elizabeth is darling and falls for Oleana and her kindness right away. The arrogant Earl too is enamored of Oleana secretly from the get go just as she is of him no matter how intimidating. Not a fan of cats the orange Carrot nevertheless is a humorous rascal and almost as arrogant as the earl himself. A sheer reading delight with delicious dollops of steam. Received this arc and have voluntarily reviewed.
