This was my first time reading Mary Kubica. I did enjoy this book. It was compelling and twisty. It sets you up to lean a certain way and then pulls the rug out from under you.
While I was reading this book I went back and fourth a lot regarding my thoughts on the book. I had moments where I was really into it and then i had moments where I was kind of over it and just wanted to be done with it.
However I will say once i finished the book, I am really glad i did! It had a twist I did not see coming until the very end.
What I liked about this book was the book had you thinking one thing and then a few chapters later had you questioning that thought. Which truthfully is the only reason i kept reading!
I think all and all this was an easy read and a book i think most Thriller/Mystery readers would enjoy.
How can you go wrong with Mary Kubica? A great title and my 'stabby' book readers will love it! Always a great one for a twist, this title did not disappoint.
This one was a little wild. Nina’s husband Jake is missing right after they have a fight and she is forced to report it to the police when he doesn’t show up for work. Christian is the husband of one of Nina’s coworkers, Lily. Told in alternating POVs of Nina and Christian, we follow along in the search for Jake. I was pretty sure of half of the twist pretty early on, but was still blind sided at the very end. I did wish the book moved at a little quicker pace as for a lot of the book, nothing really happened. But even at the slow pace, I liked the premise and was entertained by the book.

My thanks to NetGalley and Harlequinn Publishing for the ebook of Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica. I love a great thriller with an unreliable narrator. Sometimes the story would seem straightforward and then, Bam, a twist you did not see coming! I liked that the characters were able to share their side of the story by switching chapters among the main players. The chapters were short and action-packed and it seemed like each chapter ended on a cliffhanger, which is amazing when done right. I would recommend this book to any reader that enjoys a roller coaster ride with twists and turns!
I really enjoyed this one, but then again, Mary Kubica has never disappointed me.
At the heart of Just The Nicest Couple are two couples--Nina and Jake and Lily and Christian. Nina and Lily teach at the same high school and are close friends. But one day Nina's husband Jake, an arrogant and wealthy surgeon, never comes home. Nina thinks at first that Jake has left her because of a recent fight, but then she begins to suspect the worst.
Just the Nicest Couple forces you to think about your relationships and how well you really know the people who are closest to you. Although I did guess at some of the twists, there were others that I didn't suspect and the ride was really harrowing. The story is narrated by both Nina and Christian, which is interesting as you get some one-sided insight into each couple's lives. I like that we saw Lily and Jake only through the lens of their spouse and how it made me as a reader evaluate how well Nina and Christian really knew their partners. Overall, this is another Kubica hit for me.
"But bodies are found and people get murdered all the time and most of them, you never hear about."
This was a *HUGE* let down. It was fine but also like...incredibly predictable and boring. I wish I hadn't wasted my time.
As a fan of Local Woman Missing I was pumped for this release. I read another one of Kubica's books, The Good Girl, shortly before this one and I noticed a trend of there being a big twist at the very end of her novels - this one was much the same.
Two couples, one missing husband, a classic domestic whodunnit. I found the story to be slow at points, and I wish we had gotten more of the couples together and happy so that I really understood why Nina was so bereft over him being missing. The tension between them before they left gave her a hefty sense of regret, but not seeing them (or really even hearing about them) being happy made it hard to buy into her grief.
None the less, a solid thriller.
Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica is a fantastic domestic suspense thriller that I really enjoyed.
I am a fan of this authors previous work but boy this one was one of my favorites.
Two couples, two close friends and a missing husband.
The writing was well done with multiple twists and turns that really kept me surprised.
This was such a great read! Nina's husband, Jake, is missing. Her friend and co-worker, Lily, was sure she was the last one to see him. She confesses to her husband, Christian, some information that causes a chain of events that goes from bad to worse. I was totally absorbed with this story and could hardly put it down. There were several twists that I didn't see coming, which made it so fun. And I thought the writing was excellent. I solved the mystery right before the main reveal, but it ended way differently than I thought it would end. I think a bit better ending would have made it a five-star read for me. It's a great mystery, though! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
"Just the Nicest Couple" was an OK thriller, but a little on the bland side. The characters, plot, and writing all weren't that interesting or unique. I definitely don't think this was one of Kubica's strongest.
Well written and kept me guessing until the very end! I always enjoy books written by Mary Kubica and this one did not disappoint!
I loved this book! It kept me guessing until the end! The beginning of the story was a little slow but once I was about half way through I didn't want to stop!
This book fell short for me. After reading Local Woman Missing, I was excited and couldn’t wait to pick this one up. However, this was a bit of a slow burn for me, but I just really didn’t get into. There were times that it was interesting, but not what I would typically think I would get from this author. I felt like the ending was out of left field and not a good way.

Although I didn't love The Other Mrs., I really enjoyed last year's Local Woman Missing, so I was definitely looking forward to Mary Kubica's newest release.
Kubica opens this book similarly to her last (someone being followed) which sucked me in right away to what was going to happen. The narration revolves around two couples (Christian & Lily, and Nina & Jake), with the reader getting Christian and Nina's points of view. I appreciate that Kubica chose to have a male narrator in a thriller novel, where it lately seems to be the females who narrate. Christian's stress builds, as alongside him you wonder what actually happened to Jake and who is to blame. His love and concern for Lily is touching. Kubica builds suspense well; her writing style is easy to read and the pages fly by. However, things felt underdeveloped; we don't ever see Jake and Nina together or hear of them happy so it is hard to feel a lot of empathy when he goes missing. Nina and Lily turn on each other quite quickly and the reveals were ultimately disappointing. I felt like we spent the whole book building to a turns that were letdowns.
Just The Nicest Couple is story of lies, a missing husband, cover ups, and marriage. It is a popcorn thriller that was entertaining to a point, but had a disappointing ending. Thank you to Park Row and NetGalley for the ARC!
Another winner from Mary Kubica! Full of lies and twists, twists and lies, and layers upon layers of deception. I loved the mystery, angst, and deception + the dual POV. Highly recommend this one!
Thank you to Park Row for my gifted ARC provided through NetGalley.
This is my first Kubica book and probably won't be my last. It alternates from three different perspectives. I was really caught up in the storyline. Many times I thought I had an idea in mind, and then the author would say something that made me rethink some of my ideas. It was an exciting story with great character development. It was a strong 4 star book for me, as 5 star books are few to me. That being said, I ended up rating it 3 stars because I felt the ending kind of killed it for me. Just my opinion. Thank you to Netgalley for the ebook ARC.

Dual point of view: Nina & Christian.
Nina is married to a successful surgeon, Jake and he suddenly goes missing. He doesn't come home and even more disturbing he doesn't show up for work. Their marriage is not without difficulty but could he have left her? She has been so busy taking care of her mother and working that she isn't sure of the state of her marriage. Could he have been that unhappy to disappear?
Christian's wife Lily is finally expecting. They are so happy. Until Lily confesses to Christian that she was the last to see Jake alive. They decide that they have to do everything they can to not let this secret out. Nina however, is determined to find out what happened to her husband and will not stop until she has answers.
I loved how easy this story was to follow. The characters were well developed and there weren't many of them to keep track of. However, because of that I feel like the story was too predictable. If you are looking for a mystery this is the book for you! If you are looking for a thriller with twists this book isn't it!
I'm a huge fan of Mary Kubica's books and have read them all. Her debut novel, The Good Girl, is one of my favorite books along with her last book, Local Woman Missing. Although I didn't connect with Just the Nicest Couple the way I did with some of her other books, I still enjoyed it and definitely did not see the twist coming. Excited to see what Mary comes up with next. Thank you to Park Row for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Two couples who are good friends or are they? Secrets abound in this riveting mystery. One husband, Jake, goes missing and his wife , Nina, wonders if he left on purpose because of a heated fight they had or is their something more sinister to his disappearance? And is her coworker and friend, Lily and her husband Scott, somehow involved with her husband's disappearance? The story unfolds layer by layer and Nina keeps looking for her husband until she finally finds out the truth.
I enjoyed this mystery/thriller pretty much up until the very end which was the epilogue. I felt the epilogue was pretty rushed and there could have been more to the end of the story but I will give it 4 starts because I couldn't stop reading it and I was trying to figure out the ending along the way.
