After event planner Hallie Goodman comes across a file of video diaries from a bride’s ex, which she knows is wrong to watch, Hallie can’t help but find a connection with the ex, Captain Christopher Ortiz, an astronaut. When Chris discovers these correspondences, he can’t help but find a connection with Hallie and how different and funny she is and how she makes his heart beat wild. As they begin to know each other, it feels like there’s a force pushing them closer together.
I gave A Cosmic Kind of Love 4.5 stars, really enjoying the growing friendship and then romance that Hallie and Chris had. While this started out a little cringy and I was afraid it would stay that way, I found myself wanting more of Hallie and Chris together. They fit really well together and I found their chemistry so good. The one thing I liked about Chris and Hallie is that they both had a lot of similarities together yet differences that they could bounce off each other.
Within A Cosmic Kind of Love, I found that there were some things that I didn’t really like, hence why I gave this 4.5 stars. That being said it wasn’t a big enough dislike that it put me off of this book. While the beginning of A Cosmic Kind of Love was a little unnerving and I felt myself feeling embarrassed for Hallie and Chris with the video diary correspondence. There’s something about recording a video entry and having someone watch it makes me cringe, but, as we got to know the situation, I found that Samantha Young did a good job of making me move past the embarrassment.
I really enjoyed Samantha Young’s writing in A Cosmic Kind of Love. It felt like I was feeling the love that was slowly blooming between Hallie and Chris and just the longing between them. The blooming friendship that started to become something more romantic was perfect. I had so much fun reading this and found every moment reading this enjoyable. Even with the Act III conflict situation that happened, I found that it wasn’t something that would change my rating to something lower than 4.5 stars. This was well written and the plot and relationship was fun to read.
A Cosmic Kind of Love undeniably proves that Samantha Young can write any sub genre of romance that takes her fancy.
A flirtatious romcom with some serious undertones sets the scene for Hallie and Chris and their journey through time and space, to their HEA.
I love the dynamic between this couple. The circumstances surrounding their meeting is a bit out of the ordinary and the lead up to it certainly added a bit of excitement to the book's opening, capturing my attention and keeping me reading.
Their dialogue though is the driving force of the development of their relationship although they offer support for each other from very early in their interactions.
The trials and tribulations they face are fairly predictable as is the eventual outcome, but hey, I'm a romance reader and that's what I'm here for.
Another lovely addition to my e-shelf!
4.25 ⭐️ if you are looking for a cute romance that will keep you smiling the whole time, then look no further. This was definitely such a unique friends to lovers story, and I was hooked from the beginning. The connection between Hallie and Christopher was instant, but it was done in a way that didn’t feel rushed.
One of my favorite swoon-worthy qualities of a male love interest is when he sees the female as nothing other than extraordinary, and Captain Christopher Ortiz did not let me down. He accepts Hallie for who she is and is SO supportive of her. They balanced each other out with Hallie being very care free and him being the exact opposite. Their chemistry was fantastic and the text exchanges were so cute.
Thank you so much to Valentine PR and the author for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Event planner Hallie Goodman always finds herself in sticky situations. So it’s not all that surprising when a client bride sends her a link to a vision board for her wedding and accidentally includes access to everything in her cloud files, including video letters from the bride’s ex, astronaut Christopher Ortiz when he was in space. Hallie knows she shouldn’t watch them, but she’s drawn to the man in the videos and can’t seem to stop herself. As penance, she sends an apology email to his NASA address, but when it bounces back, she takes that as a sign that it’s safe to keep sending him video messages since he’ll never see them. And she tells him everything. But of course…well, I’m sure you guess who’s watching them.
I loved the set up of this book for a couple of reasons. First off, I love a heroine who is kind of a mess. The situations Hallie finds herself in aren’t her fault—except for watching the videos, that’s all on her—but it’s still fun to see a character who’s life isn’t perfect. I also loved the video set up and exploring the premise that you can start to fall for someone before you’ve actually met them in person.
What didn’t work quite as well for me was Chris. I liked him a lot at first, even if he did seem a little too perfect, but some of his behavior closer to the end of the book bugged me. I don’t want to say too much, but I just wasn’t rooting for them as a couple as much as I should have been at the end. I ultimately wanted to see him be the one to make a sacrifice since he was at best pretty clueless, and he didn’t. That said, I don’t think this will bother most readers as much as it bothered me.
Final Score 4.5 Stars!
A Cosmic Kind of Love. From the first moment I heard about this book, I have to admit - I thought it would be more about whether or not people believed "Fate" played any role in finding "The One". I'm so glad that was not what this book is about! Samantha Young’s newest release pure genius, although I felt as she's somehow followed/stalked me and made a telenovela book of my life. Just kidding, although - did you?
I adore Chris, the Hero of this book. My fellow Latino and we even have the same last name Ortiz. *fan girling* My relationship with my parents reads more like Hallie's with hers - I was constantly put in the middle of their drama - but Chris' relationship or lack thereof was so sad and heartbreaking to read. Mr. Ortiz, you need therapy! Hallie's been thru the ringer of her parent's divorce and afterlife, a demanding job, and her own life issues/struggles. And then wham! George happened. Ugh! What a tool. Much like Chris, I often feel disconnected from my heritage. I too did not grow up speaking Spanish and still today, when people hear my name, they immediately address me in Spanish and wait for a reply - in Spanish. I also understand how much it hurts when you're consistently mocked for having a "gringa" accent. Yeah, lets just say - it's not endearing or encouraging to anyone. I totally connected with Chris, but I also connected with Hallie's insecurities as well. It's horrible to have your mother pick at you over what you wear and how it looks on you. Ugh! Worst Mother of the Year!!
This book is the ultimate slow burn in that they truly got to know each first as friends before they became partners/lovers. I loved that! I didn't even care how long it took for them to kiss - I was on board the Hallie/Chris train. Granted, they way they "met' isn't typical but it was just so ... them. These two couldn't have met any other way. They way they were drawn to each other and the level of comfort they both felt in the other - that only happens when you bear your soul, as these two did albeit unknowingly.
This book was a joy to read and now, I must buy the paperback to forever have - in case Ms. Young and I ever meet in person. The one will have me dreaming sweet dreams of romance, fun, a bit of heartache, but above all a HEA.
4.5 Stars for A Cosmic Kind of Love
This is a magical, lost in space romance !!!!
Hallie Goldman is an event planner who also makes sure her own life is mapped out but when astronaut Christopher Ortes comes into her life, planning goes out the window. Hallie stumbles upon some video messages Chris made for his girlfriend and she knows she should delete them but once she watched one he became her obsession……. Realising she needs to put what she did wrong right has her sending her own video to apologise and that’s when things really get interesting.
Chris is at a crossroads in his life, he had completed his dream of going into space but now he is struggling get his next thrill … could Hallie be that thrill.
This is a friends to lovers romance that has all the feels, it’s sweet yet steamy, it’s emotional yet entertaining and it has the perfect mix of love and drama but what took this book to another level was watching this couple grow together, watching them learn to deal and move on from the baggage they both carried. This was a very different read to what I’m used too but I was drawn in and captivated from the start of this entertaining read.
A Cosmic Kind of Love is an out-of-this-world rom-com that you will want to read again and again.
Get ready for some major gushing on my part because this book is so freaking good. I love Samantha’s books; her fantasy romances, contemporary romances, and rom-coms always leave me feeling very satisfied. A Cosmic Kind of Love hooked me in and stayed with me even when I wasn’t reading it. I just couldn’t get enough of Hallie and Chris’s love story. Ok, so what makes this book so darn special? Well, for me, it checks off all those rom-com boxes, likable and relatable characters (check), romantic chemistry that leaps from the pages (check), fabulous best friend or best-tea (check), and a story that entertains and touches my heart (check).
Samantha is a master at creating a fun, humorous story that is light and will have you laughing, but at the same time, she is tugging on those heartstrings with more serious topics and moments. The humour and the angst balanced perfectly in this story, and she used them to create a really engaging and entertaining book. I loved all the space talk in this story. Seeing and learning what it was like to live on the ISS was fascinating and such a cool, unique element to add to the story. I felt like I was learning something, which doesn’t usually happen when you read a rom-com.
I think Hallie is one of my favourite rom-com characters ever! She is smart, fun, and just an all-around good person. The situations she seemed to find herself in at the beginning of the book had me laughing. Yes, she can be a bit of a pushover at the beginning of the story, and her relationship with her parents is definitely unhealthy (I’ll talk about that in a moment), but her character really grew as the story progressed. I found myself cheering when Hallie started to stand up for herself. Many of Hallie’s insecurities come from growing up in a dysfunctional home. Hallie’s parents didn’t have the healthiest relationship, and like most children, Hallie wanted to keep the peace and make her parents happy so they wouldn’t fight. This shaped how Hallie interacts with the world as an adult. I will admit there were times I wanted to smack her parents upside their heads and tell them to f-ing grow up. But then I remember her parents aren’t bad people; they are human and, like most humans, make mistakes.
Chris is just the swooniest book boyfriend. He had my heart racing many times in this book. I think his vulnerabilities and insecurities made him so swoony (besides his fabulous butt, of course). They made him feel more real and not a person that could only exist on the pages of a book. Chris’s character also went through a lot of growth in this story. When we meet him at the beginning of the book, he is lost; he doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life. His relationship with his father is not good (his father is an asshole), and his mother and brother have passed away. It was really heart-warming watching as he tried to figure out his life with the help of his Aunt and Hallie.
This is a slow-burn romance at its best. Samantha did a great job building up to that moment when Hallie and Chris would first meet. For the book’s first quarter, these two only know each other through video diaries. Hallie stumbled upon Chris’s video diaries (that he filmed while living on the ISS) when his ex-girlfriend accidentally sent them to her. She sends a video to Chris apologizing for watching his video diaries, but when she thinks he isn’t getting her videos, she starts creating more videos and sending them as a way to vent about her life. I have to say that using this kind of way to connect to characters romantically was interesting. As a reader, I could tell that both Hallie and Chris could feel that connection and chemistry from watching each other’s videos. They both felt that they had met someone who understood them. By not having them meet in person right away, Samantha really created this feeling of anticipation in me. I needed to keep reading because I wanted to see what would happen when they finally met. Even after they finally meet in person, they don’t start a romantic relationship until the second half of this book. Which meant there were lots of will they won’t they moments, and I devoured every single bit of it.
I also have to say that Hallie’s fabulous pink hair had me wanting to dye mine pink or purple. But then I remembered how much work that would be and decided to stick with red instead.
A Cosmic Kind of Love is a rom-com I will read again and again.
Thank you, Berkley Publishing, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book had a lot of appeal and hit some of my fave tropes but fell a bit flat for me. Through there were many points I loved and laughed out loud to! Chris is so sweet and I resonated with his feelings of being kinda lost but I had a hard time connecting with the FMC, Hallie. I was confused by some of her character traits. Especially one specific scene didn’t sit well with me and as a plus-size woman, was kind of offended by. I didn’t hate her character, she was very spunky but I didn’t think her character felt genuine.
Putting that all aside, I did enjoy this plot concept! The whole “meeting” online struck a cord with me because that’s how I met my fiancé. So I really enjoyed that aspect. I thought the writing flowed, especially towards the middle & end. The beginning was hard for me to get into and that’s probably what effected my rating; among a few other things.
I do believe this would possibly be a hit with a lot of readers. And I think it’s worth a try if you’re a big RomCom addict.

When it only takes 1 chapter to fall in love with a character you know the writing is phenomenal and by chapter 2 I already loved Hallie and Chris! This dual POV story is so wonderful because Hallie and Chris’ lives are so different but Samantha Young’s writing shows they are just so perfect for each other. Plus she began their relationship in such a unique way with the videos, but it still seemed realistic and was perfectly developed into a deeper relationship. I swear Samantha Young is a queen when it comes to romance, it doesn’t matter if it is contemporary or paranormal, she can do it all!
P. S. I learned a ton about life in space by reading this book which was really interesting! 🚀
What a fun one this is. Hallie Goodman is an event planner who just cannot say no. As she is planning an engagement party for Darcy she stumbles upon old video diaries of her client’s astronaut ex-boyfriend. With a guilty conscious Hallie messages him apologizing for watching but when her message bounces back she starts sending video diaries to what she thinks is a discontinued email address.
.
Well, reader it is not a discontinued email address and Chris is falling for the girl behind the video diaries. I really loved these two together as they became a couple and grew into their true selves.

This one is out tomorrow! Huge thank you to @berkleypub @berittalksbooks @thephdivabooks @dg_reads @prhaudio and @netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

DNF @ 18%
Thank you so much to Berkley and Netgalley for providing an advanced copy of this. All thoughts and opinions are still my own.
Unfortunately this romance just wasn't for me. I absolutely loved the setup for this one and I've really loved this author's books in the past. But there were some characterization things that just aren't my favorite and knew would bother me if I continued with the book.
This story follows our quirky heroine who is an event planner. She gets herself into all kinds and oddball situations - getting her coat caught in a train door, trying on someones clothes in a store. And after the many-ith time of this happening in the first 18% I started to find this "quirk" obnoxious - it was just too much.
On top of that the heroine is the caricature of a pushover. She lets everyone demean and use her for anything and just lets it happen. To the point where she creates an apology video to a famous stranger... and I just couldn't get on board.
I felt like the author tried way too hard to make the heroine quirky (did I mention she also has pink hair) and it left me finding her annoying rather endearing like intended.
While planning an event, one of the clients accidently sends Hallie video files of the bride’s ex-boyfriend. She knows she shouldn’t watch them but Hallie quickly finds herself drawn to the handsome astronaut on her screen. She begins to reply to his videos thinking he’ll never see them. Chris is slowly adjusting to life back on Earth after spending time on the ISS. He’s surprised and intrigued when NASA’s IT department forwards him some video files containing Hallie’s messages.
A Cosmic Kind of Love is dual-POV, friends to lovers romance. It has a unique twist on an epistolary storyline. While there is a lot of pining from both of the MCs, the dialogue is not overly angsty.
This was one of my most anticipated Fall releases and Samantha Young did not disappoint. As a bit of a NASA/space nerd, I appreciate the details given throughout the book especially pertaining to recovery from space travel. That kind of extra information shows the author's attention to accuracy.
I appreciate the way the author shows the complications of different types of familial obligation. The MCs are dealing with difficult family situations and the author does well depicting both in a realistic light. I like the way she spread the MCs' histories throughout the plot, rather than just info dumping their backgrounds right at the beginning of the book.
I have read several of Samantha Young’s books in the past and will continue to look forward to new work from her in the future.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group!
I'll preface this review by saying I LOVE SAMANTHA YOUNG! When this book was announced I was super excited for it. I was looking forward to reading a book with an astronaut as the MMC. That aspect was new and fresh, and sometimes romance novels can be repetitive. I also don't mind a slow burn, but this book wasn't a slow burn, it moved more like a half dead snail. It was a good portion of the book before the characters had even met. I started to get pretty frustrated with that.
This book is definitely lighter than most of Ms. Young's books. It was missing the angst and emotional gut punch that I absolutely love when reading one of her books. If you like books with an EXTREMELY slow burn, and on the lighter side than this may be right up your alley. I'll be over here waiting for her next book that will hopefully shred my heart into itty bitty pieces.
A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young
Rating: 4.5/5 stars
Steam: 2/ 5
Pub date: 10/18
Samantha Young is a new-to-me author, and this book was one of my most anticipated reads this month. It did not disappoint! I immediately fell in love with this book’s unique premise about an event planner and an astronaut falling in love through videos they send to each other.
Hallie is an event planner at one of the most prestigious planning companies in the city. When the bride she’s working with accidentally sends over her ex-boyfriend’s video diaries from space, Hallie can’t help but watch. Christopher doesn’t realize at the time that someone else is watching his videos, but once he’s back on Earth, he starts receiving videos back from Hallie, a woman he’s never met. He feels drawn to Hallie and continues to watch the videos she thinks are anonymous. Once he figures out where to find her, he’s determined to meet this girl that he’s starting to fall for.
This is such a cute, slow burn, strangers-to-friends-to-lovers, dual POV, romance! I couldn't put it down! I was drawn to the unique premise but stayed because of the sharp writing and delightful characters.
Not only is this a lighthearted, feel good read, but it’s also emotional and poignant. Hallie’s people pleasing tendencies encourage other people to take advantage and treat her poorly, and Christopher is struggling with what to do now that he’s back on Earth. He has a strained relationship with his father and is searching for a better connection to his Latinx heritage, which is something that he and his father disagree on.
I loved watching these characters evolve by first, dealing with the toxic people in their lives, and then, by putting their relationship first. Christopher loves the things about Hallie that make her unique ( but that other people criticize her for) and we all deserve to have someone like that in our corner. There were some angsty moments involving an ex that made me cringe, but ultimately the story flows smoothly and I enjoyed the author’s writing style. This is a slow burn and I loved the sizzling chemistry and tension between the characters. That moment when they finally get together is just perfection.
Heartfelt and full of humor, this is a story I will read again and again. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Valentine PR, Berkeley Romance and Samantha Young for the early copy to read and review. A Cosmic Kind of Love is out tomorrow on 10/18!
I’m really sad to say that this book is a DNF.
Having read and enjoyed many stories by Samantha Young I was really looking forward to reading this one as it sounded such fun and has such a unique story but alas as much as I tried I just could not finish it.
I read to about 38% and as much as I enjoy reading a slow burn romance this story just felt like it was going nowhere.
The H & H had only briefly met by this point and I had totally lost interest in anything that was happening by now. I found I was having to force myself to keep reading and it became a none enjoyable experience.
This book was unfortunately not for me but not everyone will possibly feel the same about it as I did. This one is definitely a miss from me.
In ‘A Cosmic Kind of Love’ we meet Hallie Goodman. Hallie is an event planner who has had some bad luck in the boyfriend department lately. Now she is busy organizing the wedding of a rich New Yorker. For inspiration the bride sends Hallie an inspiration board, but accidentally she also sends Hallie private video messages from the Brides ex astronaut Christopher Ortiz.
Christopher is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life after returning home from his tour on the International Space Station. But how can he top this last job? Christopher is struggling, until one day he start receiving video messages from this pick haired lady.
This book was simple amazing. I loved it so much I couldn’t stop reading. Not only was the romance amazing and fun, more about that later, but the main character Hallie just became my best friend in the entire world. Hallie is just amazing. She is this pink haired, event planner who definitely is too good for the people around her. And I loved her. I mean definite girl crush moment here. In real-life, Hallie would totally be my go to girl. I could relate to her easily, I love love loved her job and I could totally understand her attraction to Christopher. Some of Hallie’s ‘awkward’ moments where simple hilarious and I just want to meet her!! LOL!!
And Hallie was not the only amazing character in this book. We get to read this story through both her and Christophers point of view and I loved that. Christopher is an astronaut, who only recently came back from his tour on the International Space Station. Not only is he very handsome, he also is just a very kind and good guy. And I loved him with Hallie.
The romance between Hallie and Christopher is a slow burn one, but definitely one with some very intense chemistry right from the start. I loved how Hallie and Christopher fall for each other. And I couldn’t put this book down, simple because I loved these characters so much.
‘A Cosmic Kind of Love’ is easily going on my favorite list this year. I had some high expectations about this one, but they where easily met. And I can’t recommend this book more. It was very original and entertaining.. and those characters?! Wow. Bravo Samantha.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
i went into this book pretty blind, i didn't know much about it, but really loved the cover (i will judge books by their covers tysm). i really enjoyed my time with it, especially in the beginning. i was a big fan of the plot and how hallie and chris came together; they were both fun characters and an astronaut love interest really had me hooked. the last fifteen percent of the book didn't have me hooked as much, but overall i really liked it. definitely recommend if you are looking for a romance with a bit more character backstory and helping each other grow.
A Cosmic Kind of Love isn't your standard rom com.
But that's a compliment.
Samantha Young wrote a touching and sweet story about two flawed individuals who deserve to find what helps them feel their worth. Both Hallie and Chris come from backgrounds that deal with deep issues such as parental and partner abuse (mental and emotional) and infidelity. The story was beautifully written and hilarious, yet brought up situations that really made this an emotionally well-rounded story.
This one is by far my favorite book by this author.
Thank you Berkley for the gifted copy.
A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young has been on my "highly anticipated 2022 releases" list ever since Samantha Young first hinted at its title and blurb. Then the cover was revealed and I wanted to get my hands on a copy even more.
I really loved meeting Hallie and Chris. Both MCs are smart, successful, and have a quiet inner strength (though the latter is something they frequently forget). But each also has personal issues they're attempting to navigate and as a result, they frequently feel lost and/or make some poor choices.
Enter a chance encounter at exactly the right time they need. Cosmic fate, anyone? Hallie stumbles across old video recordings Chris sent to his previous partner, and an unlikely friendship strikes up between Hallie and Chris.
Typical of Young's writing style, A Cosmic Kind of Love contains a range of great characters, hilarious banter, and multitudes of emotion. Young always manages to put her heart and soul into each of her stories and this book is no different. The story is easy to read and well-paced making it an enjoyable binge read!
I'd recommend this book to fans of Samantha Young's previous work, anyone who'd like a romance story with light universe-related themes, and readers wanting a quick, fun contemporary romance.
Please note: there are a few triggers that readers should be made aware, including toxic parental relationships, and research should be done prior to reading (if needed).
