I didn't expect it to have such a unique plot and love story that's hard to put behind after closing the book
.
The most original meet cute I've ever read, like a kind of you got mail with much more, so much more
.
.
Hallie Goodman is an event planner at one of the best and most recognized agencies in New York, constantly doing everything she can to make others feel comfortable or get what they want, it's exhausting that's why when one of her clients, an it girl, mistakenly send her videos of her ex-boyfriend instead of inspiration files for the engagement party, Hallie can't resist watching them
.
Drawn to the handsome, funny and charismatic Chris Ortiz on the space station, Hallie watches all the videos. Despite not having intimate content, she feels very guilty and decides to send an apology video explaining the situation. When the video bounces off her box Hallie notices it as a signal and begins to video write down her days knowing that no one is going to see them, or so she thinks
.
Captain Chris Ortiz has been back on earth for a couple of months, trying to adjust to daily life and grieving the loss of members of his family when he receives an email from NASA with a video in his old message box. At first he doesn't want to know anything about it but as time goes by he sees the first full video and then the next, and the next. Until he decides to confirm the invitation to his ex-girlfriend's engagement party to see the curious pink-haired woman in person
.
The story between Chris and Hallie flowed perfectly, I could taste every part of the dialogue as they became friends and the chemistry grew between them. I really liked having both povs, especially from Chris, a perfect book boyfriend and while I imagine how the story of both continues, I feel more sadness that the book has ended quickly
.
Book hangover and several re-readings in my future with this book. My only disappointment is that there was no more NASA-Austronaut content and that it ended too quickly, this is an indication of how much I enjoyed this book
.
.
Thanks to Samantha Young and Valentine Pr team for give me this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opin
A Cosmic Kind of Love is a rom-com standalone by Samantha Young. Told from POV with a HEA
Tropes:
✔️ opposites attract
✔️ Mexican/American astronaut hero
✔️ soulmates
✔️ epistolary romance
Event planner Hallie Goodman just wanted some inspiration from the bride of her latest assignment. What she got would change her life forever...
The bride’s shared folder contained videos from her handsome and charming ex-boyfriend who’d been on the International Space Station for months when he’d sent those personal vids. Knowing it was absolutely wrong but impossible to resist, Hallie watches all of them.
Feeling remorseful she sends a video to Captain Christopher Ortiz’s NASA email apologizing for her invasion of privacy. After it bounced though, she kept sending him videos that kept bouncing until she met him IRL at her client’s engagement party.
Chris had been struggling to readjust to life on Earth, stress by trying to figure out his future when a friend from NASA contacted him about Hallie’s videos. Reluctant at first, he saw them and was utterly captivated and charmed by the pink haired beauty. Wanting to meet her, he RSVP’s to his ex-girlfriend’s engagement party.
What comes next, is a Cosmic Kind of Love.
An astronaut hero is a first for me! It was original, compelling and I loved his characterization. He’s smart and accomplished, but also very human. Finding himself lost after he his space mission he isn’t afraid to admit it. He’s also incredibly caring and supportive of Hallie and a key factor in her growth.
Hallie’s a people pleaser, which is great for her professionally, but personally she was a doormat for her parents’ abuse. Which is where Chris’ respect, love and care come in.
Their chemistry is evident and so is their deep connection. I loved their banter. It was sweet, fun and swoony. They had super sexy moments as well as heartfelt ones. I enjoyed this slow burn romance so much that I even paced myself while savoring it.
I had a tiny issue with Chris' non-Mexican name (father: Javier, brother: Miguel) but loved how he decided to connect with his heritage. I think Samantha could write a novel with Chris & Hallie about their travels to beautiful places.

A unique meet cute is just part of the fun of A Cosmic Kind of Love. Hallie and Chris are both dealing with parent issues, but together, they provide support the the other one needs. Between the interesting video diaries highlighting the time Chris spent as an astronaut on the Space Station and Hallie's mishaps the two are unique and interesting people to get to know. The story focused on family life and issues a bit more than the romance.
I enjoyed the overall feel and tone of the book.
Thank you Netgalley and Berkley for the ARC copy. This is my honest review.
“But being yours . . . that’s the only thing in my life I am one hundred percent certain I want and need to be.”
How many space puns can I fit in one review? Infinity & beyond.
Okay, but this one was CUTE.
Hallie is a pink haired, people pleasing, event planner living in NYC who inadvertently watches private videos from her newest client’s ex-boyfriend. Even though she knows it is wrong and she feels guilty, she cannot stop watching the videos that Astronaut & Captain, Christopher Ortiz, sent to his ex.
Meanwhile, Chris is trying to adjust to life back on earth and find his new mission. He starts to receive video messages from Hallie who is venting about her family drama, and he is immediately enthralled.
Chris needs to find a way to keep her in his orbit… or will their family drama keep them in different galaxies?
Things I liked:
•A Cosmic Kind of Love has one of the most original meet cutes I have ever read. Epistolary but make it 2022.
•I felt like despite the meet cute and Chris’s profession, their relationship was very relatable. Not every relationship starts off smoothly and sometimes it takes time for both people to adjust.
•I liked how they enjoyed doing mundane things together. Sometimes when you read romance novels, its like watching The Bachelor. Chris and Hallie enjoyed hanging out at home, takeout, and low-key date nights.
•Chris doesn’t have his life figured out. It was refreshing to see a MC that isn’t perfect.
•The family drama was heavy, but something that most couples must navigate. I loved watching Hallie stand up to her parents and set boundaries, while Chris stood up to his controlling father.
The only thing I disliked/ struggled with, was Chris. He is so serious, and I just wanted to see more of his personality shine through. He was under a lot of pressure, but I wanted him to loosen up more with Hallie.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and am excited to read more from Samantha Young in the future.
Rating: 3.75 (rounding up to 4 on GR)

Thank you so much to Valentine PR, Berkley Romance, and Net Galley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Hallie is an event planner, and a pushover. She's always let her family, boyfriends, coworkers and friends walk all over her. One night when reviewing her email from a client for party ideas, she notices her client accidentally included a file of videos messages from her ex-boyfriend from when he was an astronaut on the International Space Station. Hallie knows she shouldn't, but proceeds to watch them all and found solace in his thoughts and words. Her guilt overcomes her, though, so she sends one back, confessing and apologizing. When it bounces back, Hallie decides to keep recording those messages to Chris. It feels good to unburden herself and apparently, he isn't getting them so she doesn't need to worry about what she says. But he is seeing them, and feeling a bond with Hallie too. When they meet in person, both are attracted to the other, but they both have a lot on their plates and things to work through. Is their relationship written by the stars?
Review
Samantha Young can do no wrong for me in the romance department. I was skeptical of the premise of this at first. But I fell in love immediately with Hallie and Chris, both separately and as a couple. Hallie was so relatable, with her insecurities and people pleasing ways. Chris coping with the many loses his family faced, as well as being at crossroads in life, and how he tried to face those issues and work through them, was admirable. Yay for prioritizing mental health and promoting therapy! Samantha always does an amazing job with fleshing out her characters, making their connections feel genuine and any issues they face as a couple be realistic and not over the top.
Thank you to Samantha Young, Berkley Publishing and Valentine PR for this advanced readers copy of Cosmic Love.
So, it starts a bit slow and I sometimes skimmed over the video diary entries at the beginning of Hallies chapters from Chris a bit…he was talking to his Ex Darcy in them and as Hallie is the engagement party planer for Darcy, she accidentally stumbled across them. But she can’t stop watching them, even though she knows it’s wrong.
Hallie was a pushover and a people pleaser, mostly towards her divorced parents. Her growth throughout the second half of the book was great and I was routing for her.
I didn’t like that Chris decided to keep the secret from Hallie, that he watched her videos even though she thought they bounced back and waited so long to tell her that he had indeed seen the videos and knew her better because of them.
By the 70% mark, the book seemed to have its happy ending. But the toxic parents had to be felt with, and so did the big three letter word.
A Cosmic Kind Of Love by Samantha Young
Standalone Contemporary Romance
A Cosmic Kind Of Love was supplied by Net Galley for an honest review.
I love space and the space program so I was excited to grab A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young because it features an astronaut as the hero. Captain Christopher Ortiz was a fighter pilot-turned astronaut, and Hallie Goodman is a clumsy, pink-haired, people-pleasing event planner.
Hallie was planning an engagement party for a NY socialite, Darcy Hawthorne, who e-mailed her a few folders of ideas for what she wanted for the party. Darcy didn’t realize that she also sent a folder of video letters her ex-boyfriend, Captain Christopher Ortiz, sent her from the International Space Station. Hallie clicked on one and was immediately sucked in. She knew she shouldn’t but she watched them all, multiple times.
She felt so guilty that she sent her own video apologizing for watching videos not meant for her, but it bounced back to her, email not found. She enjoyed making the video, and started making a video diary and kept sending them, knowing nobody would see them. But he did. Chris watched every single one and developed quite a crush.
“When I’d spotted him across the room, it was like the entire party faded out. There he was. And shock of all shocks, he was looking at me.”
Hallie went through a lot of character growth in this book. She was always the people-pleaser who couldn’t say no, especially to her parents who put her in the middle of their extremely toxic divorce, I was happy to see her grow a backbone.
Chris was a Latinx role model to many, but he grew up knowing nothing about his Latin background, and his relationship with his father was extremely toxic as well.
“How can my son be so brave as to fly fighter jets and travel into space, and yet be such a lazy disappointment now?”
There was a LOT of angst in this book, yet I really liked how healthy their relationship was…at first. I loved both characters so much and I totally rooted for them the whole time.
“What we have is kind of cosmic like that.”
Likes:
•I really enjoyed reading about the space station in each video, but I admit, most romance readers might skim over the details. Not me, I wanted more!
•I loved both main characters so much and just wanted to see them happy.
•Aunt Richelle and Althea were great side characters.
•An interesting and unique storyline.
•Lots of character growth.
•Lots of chemistry that never felt forced.
Dislikes:
•Her cute clumsiness and bad luck disappeared in the 2nd half except for once. That was the light comic relief of the story and I wish there was a bit more.
•There was a little too much drama with their parents, it kind of overtook the romance a bit.
•Sometimes he was so attentive to her needs and the perfect boyfriend, and sometimes just oblivious.
•I wish there was an epilogue further in the future.
The Down & Dirty:
A Cosmic Kind of Love was a unique, fun and sexy read with super likeable main characters. Their parental strifes took away a little from the feel-good romance, but I would still recommend this wholeheartedly—I gobbled it up. Twice.
Rating: 4.25 Stars, 4 Heat
Judging by this title & cover, I was totally thinking a rom com meets Xenon, Girl of the 21st Century. Not quite what I got here, as it does actually take place on planet earth. But I truly was hooked on this one from the very beginning!
Hallie is an event planner with major people-pleasing tendencies. Which, make her great at her job, but terrible I’m relationships… with men, with friends, and with her own parents. As she helps a client plan her dream wedding, the client shares a cloud link with ideas. But, also accidentally sends video messages from her ex, an actual astronaut. Hallie opens a video message and finds herself instantly drawn to Captain Chris Ortiz. And she winds up watching all of his messages to Darcy from his time on the International Space Station. Hallie tries to send an apology, but her message bounces back. Realizing it’s strangely cathartic to share videos that no one will see, she sends several more… But someone does see them. Captain Ortiz, actually. And he begins to feel connected to Hallie, too.
This was so cute and I was super absorbed in this story! I loved how it switched back and forth from Chris and Hallie’s video messages to real life, and how they both felt so connected upon their first meeting. Chris encouraged Hallie so much and I loved that he wanted to build up her confidence, and protect her! I was a little disappointed that she still accepted some of her mother’s offensive behavior, but overall I think she really bloomed and grew so much more confidence! It was great to see her get a spine and stand up for herself, on several different levels/relationships. Chris has a lot to work through with having lost his mom and his brother, and his very manipulative/power-hungry father. He opens up so much to Hallie! They become confidants and friends, but neither can deny feelings for the other. They seem perfect for each other. Is their love story written in the stars??
I was so excited for the concept of this one! I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance novel with an astronaut hero before so I was excited. Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
He’s an astronaut alright, and the first part of the book has SO MANY astronaut facts crammed into it. I suppose the author didn’t want to let the research she clearly did go to waste but my god the first half of the book was slow (of course, if you are a big fan of spaceship facts this might be a positive for you!) If I hadn’t had an ARC of this, I absolutely would have DNF’d it.
It does eventually pick up but it’s hard for me to enjoy a book when I start off on the wrong foot with it. At that point, I was finding the heroine to be a doormat, the parents all felt cartoonish, and the slow burn just felt … slow.
I suppose I’m just being picky now, so I will point out there were things I enjoyed. Althea was fantastic, I liked that it was a unique plot, the relationship was pretty cute, Chris was mostly great, and I was glad when Hallie finally started standing up for herself after being a doormat to everyone around her for the majority of the book.
I’m not saying don’t read it, I’m just saying don’t expect this to be a typical emotional, angsty Samantha Young novel. It’s not that. It was however a unique story with a little bit of steam.
Hallie is an event planner. While looking at files for one of her clients, she stumbled across some videos of her client's ex, astronaut Christopher Ortiz. She sends her own videos to what she thinks is a discontinued NASA address when really Chris sees the videos.
What a unique storyline that I thought was done so well. Even from the very first time they laid eyes on each other there was a pull between them. Their conversation always flowed so easily as fhey felt comfortable opening up to each other. I really loved their scenes together.
Hallie was a people pleaser and unfortunately was used to people treating her poorly. Chris was so good for her. He made her feel special. He wanted her just the way she was and appreciated her uniqueness. Hallie would get herself in these crazy situations. The humor she added to the book were some of my favorite parts.
There was a lot of family drama and toxic relationships that I wish was toned down a bit. At times it seemed to take over the book.
What a wonderful, feel-good story. I love how Samantha Young wrote this. The character development is so detailed that you really get to know these characters and want the best for them. The way Hallie and Chris find each other, and meet is really so unique. I just enjoyed it so much.
This story had so much feeling. There’s a lot of emotional hurt both Hallie and Chris are dealing with and go through. Their understanding of each other and the way they help each other is beautiful.
This story has a lot of emotional aspects; from family mistreatment, trust issues, acceptance of yourself and others, and learning to love yourself and knowing your self-worth. Watching Hallie and Chris’ growth and journey is heartfelt and heartwarming. This story will leave your heart smiling.
This has to be one of the most unique romances I’ve read so far. It’s definitely not your typical romcom where the hero & heroine meet in person & fall in love. In a Cosmic Kind of Love, the hero & heroine don’t even know the other one knows they exist, until it’s too late. This is a slow-burn online romance between star-crossed lovers. You get amazing chemistry between two raw vulnerable & relatable characters. Hallie & Chris couldn’t be more different, yet the emotional connection they share blooms into a wonderful friendship that leaves the other wanting more.
I am a hopeless romantic that lives for swoony reads, and I was completely swept off my feet with this one. There are sensitive & emotional topics discussed, that made the characters very relatable and raw. You also see a lot of personal development as well as each MC journey. Overall, I loved how wholesome this romcom was & how packed it was with sizzling chemistry. I definitely recommend if you need an escape from reality, or have enjoyed Samantha’s other books.
You can expect:
* Star-Crossed Lovers
* Latino Astronaut Hero
* Event Planner Heroine
* Friends to Lovers
* Complex Family Dynamics
* Character Development + Growth
* Opposites Attract
* Video Diaries + Online Romance
* Open Door Romance
🪐💕I love a good opposites attract story and its always so endearing in a romance when the planets align and the timing is just right to create something beautiful. That’s how I feel these two came together. A Cosmic Kind of Love was witty, fun, what a clever way to introduce two MC’s.
💕🪐Hallie Goodman is an event planner in NYC working for a prestigious firm and handling a high profile wedding. While in full planning mode, she stumbles upon a folder containing videos from the bride-to-be’s ex. Videos from space. Specifically, video diaries from NASA astronaut, Christopher Ortiz. Hallie becomes fascinated by his ramblings about space life. She knows she shouldn’t, but she keeps watching. Who wouldn’t want to know about life on the International Space Station?? 😂❤️Hallie decides to send a message to apologize and it promptly gets returned back (there’s another cute story behind that 😉). She then believes it’s safe to share the musings of her life thinking the emails are going nowhere…but Christopher is receiving Every. Single. One. 🥰❤️ It’s such a cute way these two get to know each other! 💕👨🏽🚀
🪐💕I appreciated how Christopher loved all of the things that Hallie’s previous boyfriend would criticize her for. We all should have people in our lives that see the best in us and love the quirky parts that make us unique. The book is aptly named because a love like Hallie and Christopher’s truly is “Cosmic” and written in the stars. 4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The story is written in a familiar way. It doesn't feel like you are reading a book but more like you are listening to someone you just met, tell you their lives' story. It's so sweet! Hallie and Chris are surrounded by people who don't respect boundaries, who are manipulative and plainly too self centered. And still, they end up being amazing human beings. Of course the good thing is that they at least have 1 or 2 people in their lives that are fierce when it comes to love them, protect them and give them wisdom. And that they find each other in the most random perfect way. Because they just fit and make each other better. They will not disappoint you. The story gives you all the feels. You will want to protect these characters from outside the pages, you will be on an inner character discovery journey and will swoon nonstop.
This was an amazing fall romance read! I am getting back into reading contemporary fiction romance, and I am so glad that I picked this one up. It was so cute and the storyline was adorable. This was my first Samantha Young book but it won't be the last! A new auto buy author??? I think so !
This was such an adorable romance story. I loved the You've got mail element to it with a video twist and the romance was oh so sweet.
I also really understood Hallie because I am going through similar familial situation.
A Cosmic Kind of Love is the pitch perfect romance I needed in my life. The enigmatic characters have real life problems and readers will empathize with both Hallie and Chris because of it. The romance is sizzling and spicy at times, and equal parts tame and sweet at others. The story line is unique and fresh, and I was totally invested right away.
This was a really cute unique read. From the way they find each other, I was very intrigued to see how it was all going to play out.
I really enjoyed Chris and Hallie together. They had great chemistry and just fit one another perfectly! Chris is definitely book boyfriend material! Very swoony!
And while Hallie has her insecurities, her growth was amazing! I found myself rooting for her and being proud of her!
I absolutely loved Althea the best friend. I want her for myself haha.
If your looking for a romance that’s a little different definitely try this one.
Slow burn romances - yay or nay ??? I love my books spicy, ? BUT, if slow burn comes from author like Samantha Young, sign me up , I'm all in.
I finished few moments ago her incoming book - A Cosmic Kind of Love, and it was such a fantastic read. Samantha Young always steal my breath away and it was exactly the same way with Hallie & Chris.
The whole story was just adorable and warmed my heart, the slow burn between Chris and Hallie was something out of this world. The characters were circling around each other, but it's not only the chemistry between them created amazing romance here... From the first moment they "met", I had a feeling like they are destined for each other. From a little fascination, thru friendship and then love, Samantha Young showed how beautiful romantic relationship can be. Sometimes people think that love is overated, but thru this exactly book, I could see how powerful force love can be. Chris and Hallie's romance might be heartwarming, but their story is also delivering lot of sadness. Nothing is perfect in this world, but if we love and be loved, we can be invincible.
Chris is a hero that You cannot miss, Hallie is a heroine, that You can only cherish with all heart. A Cosmic Kind of Love is perfect, and I hope You'll enjoy this book as much , as I did.
This book is out of this world!
Hallie is an event planner who has plans for everything but the astronaut that comes into her life. When she accidentally sees Chris' videos from space that were meant for his ex girlfriend, she is more than a bit intrigued and unable to stop going back for more. Wanting to make it right she sends her own video to apologize which is never viewed or so she thinks.
Chris is an astronaut in need of direction in life, he has completed a life dream of going to space and helping with humanity, but he doesn't know what to do next. Hallie comes in to his life the right moment and maybe they can help each other.
As internet connection goes this one is very unique. I loved the way their relationship started before they even met, it was unexpected and lovely.
I have read a lot of romance books but this is the first time I read about an astronaut hero, that was so refreshing and informative. I especially enjoyed the description about life on space and the beautiful pictures the setting created.
Both Chris and Hallie were in need of some help each of them in a different way, Chris learned to follow his heart while Hallie stood up for herself and really grew through the book. I loved that for her.
The romance was incredible sweet and the slow burn really payed off as their chemistry could be seen from out of space.
I stayed up way too late to finish this book, the writing is totally addictive and I just couldn't stopped reading.
* I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
