Picture this: You have just finished an incredibly stressful midterms season and you're looking for a book to bring you out of the pit of despair you have dragged yourself into. Enter Samantha Young's "A Cosmic Kind of Love". I ATE THIS UP!!!! I did not want to put this down!!!! The characters, the love story, the slow burn, aghhhh all of it was just amazing!!

Hallie and Chris were drawn together from the start, yet I wouldn't necessarily characterize this as an insta-lovey type of story? The video messages were such a sweet way to get their story kicked off. The characters were so complex and had a lot going on behind the scenes. There were incredibly toxic parents (they stressed me out and upset me quite a bit at times) and what I would consider to be OW drama (Chris was SO BLIND TO THAT AT TIMES!!!!)

Through it all, we see these characters grow into themselves and work through their insecurities together. There were roadblocks along the way, definitely, but to see them try to communicate their feelings was amazing.

Also I really want Hallie's career as an event planner - literally a dream. I hated how people were using that as a weapon against her (not me adding pink hair to my Pinterest board, too). I loved her POVs and honestly I really related to how she viewed herself in many ways (to see Chris also love her for who she is and not change just made my heart melt).

That brings me to Chris. MINUS the stress he put me through with Darcy, this man is THE book boyfriend of the month let me tell you. This man had me twirling my hair and kicking my feet at times. I think at one point Hailey made a comment along the lines of how he can't be real, and I will have to agree with her. Someone find me a Captain Chris Ortiz.

ALSO THE TWO CHARACTERS I STANNED FULLY THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK WERE RICHELLE AND ALTHEA!!!!! Everyone needs a Richelle and Althea in their life, seriously. I would read a book about each of their lives.

Overall, I'm incredibly glad that I read this book. I hope everyone adds this to their TBR and gets introduced to Hallie and Chris!

Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Samantha Young for this ARC! I will definitely be adding this to my physical bookshelf!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A cute, quick read! I enjoyed almost every second haha I say "almost" because I seriously disliked George. Oh man if the ground would have opened up and swallowed him whole, I would've cheered. I got kind of annoyed with Chris, too, but it wasn't enough to make me not love him. Some of the jokes were a little off color, and I found myself really annoyed with Hallie's parents and Chris' dad. They were just buttheads.

Chris was a hot mess during most of the book haha He struggled with what he wanted to do and what he wanted to be. Hallie was a force of nature, and despite what George thought, I thought Hallie was perfect. I love their unconventional meet cute. It might be one of my favorites haha!

3.5 Stars!
Overall this was an entertaining read that had more emotional depth than I anticipated. The book touches on some tough topics such as toxic parenting, grief, and cultural identity.

The book follows two main characters; Hallie Goodman an event coordinator and chronic people pleaser and Chris Ortiz an Instagram famous astronaut. They meet when Hallie is hired to coordinate an engagement party for Chris's ex girlfriend Darcy and she accidentally stumbles upon video messages that Chris sent to Darcy and Hallie feels guilty for invading Chris's privacy and seeks him out to apologize. I thought the whole concept was funny and unique.

I enjoyed Hallie a lot and her character growth but I felt like Chris's growth could have been expanded more or had more depth to it (i'm still confused about his brother and mother? I felt like they could have been discussed more). Both the main characters are dealing with toxic parents and in some instances toxic friends, exs and co workers. It was a lot of toxicity...

I overall enjoyed the writing and was entertained and will be recommending to friends. Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for sharing this eARC with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

I have only read The Adair Family series by the author, and was curious about this book. A Cosmic Kind of Love is more of a rom-com, but deals with some serious family issues.

Both Hallie and Chris, our main characters are treated poorly by there parents. In real life, I think this happens a lot, and it isn't talked about, or it is made into some kind of joke. This treatment has had a big effect on Hallie and Chris, in their friendships and romantic relationships.

The author had me laughing and tearing up at times throughout the story. Hallie and Chris are good together, but no relationship is perfect. We get to see how they navigate the many wrenches that are thrown at them.

This was a fun read, lots of steamy scenes, and lots of heart!

Thank you to Valentine PR & Literary Management, NetGalley, and the author for the review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

absolutely adored this book! hallie + chris were a breath of fresh air! I immediately was intrigued to read a love story between an astronaut and an event planner! the story is so unique and Samantha Young really knows how to create a genuine love story that sucks you in. I always enjoy reading a romance story that involves two mature MCs, it's a nice break from the toxicity most romance novels heighten. i will say the curveball of the toxic parents each MC had was something i didn't know i needed to experience in a romance story!! i was waiting for hallie + chris to set those boundaries and honestly stand up for themselves. it hit a little too close to home, which i have a feeling will happen for a handful of readers, which i can only hope will inspire them!! we don't stand for toxic energy!! even if it's coming from our own family.

This is definitely a must read for everyone.

THANK YOU TO Valentine PR, Net Galley and Samantha Young for the ARC!!

A Cosmic Kind of Love by S. Young is a book that has everything I love in a great read. Characters easy to connect with, an entertaining story, writing and storyline that just fits me. And all this is this novel.
Hallie Goldman is an event planner, Christopher Ortiz an astronaut.
She recives video/files about a witts, sweet, cute guy and she's smitten. She starts emailing and so it begins.
Christopher is back from space and is readjusting to life on earth. And there's the woman who sent him these emails.
An highly entertaining read, a story that gives all the feels, and made me read the book, cover to cover, in one sitting. I recommend the book.

Samantha Young delivers a romantic comedy filled with likeable characters, toxic family relationships and an adorable setup. The novel is funny, emotional and has dual POV that allows for good character development. There is an instant connection between Hallie and Chris when they see each other on video but the relationship blooms from friends to lovers genuinely.

I loved Hallie's spunky attitude, pink hair and her growth. She moves from people pleaser to awesome badass who can stand up for her needs (even if she still feels a little guilty - I know this feeling well). Hallie adores her career as an event planner with one of the biggest NY companies, even when those she loves demeans it by labeling her as simply "party planner." Feeling like a ping-pong ball caught between her divorced parents, Hallie finally feels supported enough to step back and not try to fix everything.

Christopher, a Mexican American, who suffered the losses of both his mother and brother also feels the loss of culture and connection. He and his father have never seen eye to eye and the expectations placed on Chris are exponential. Though a greatly ambitious person (making Captain after four years and just completing a space mission), Chris finds himself unsure about his direction. The time Young spent diving into the characters allowed their growth and decisions to feel natural.

There is some withheld information throughout the novel which worked for me in the first instance but later in the novel, I found myself shaking my head a bit. The final scene was a little cheesy for my tastes but it is a rom-com. The novel follows the characters up to and after they officially begin dating, so we see their ups and downs making the relationship feel authentic.

CW: loss of loved ones (past), grief, toxic relationships, divorce, alcohol, body shaming

How does this author manage to combine so many of my favorite romance aspects into one amazing book all of the time? I swear if another author tried to write a book that was part rom com but also had lots of angst and pining it wouldn’t work. She is just SO good at blending so many different elements together and she ends up with these epic stories of love. I adored both Chris and Hallie right from the jump and could not wait for them to get together. It was a bit of a wait, this was a slow burn (that’s where the angst comes in) but it was the delicious kind of torture that only certain authors can pull off. There was a ton of character development and growth as well, you see both of them come so far by the end, both separately and together and I always appreciate that deep type of growth. Overall an outstanding romance that I truly adored, if you’re already a fan of the author you’ll be pleased and if you’ve never read her before you should!

A Cosmic Kind of Love tells the story of Hallie and Chris, an event planner and astronaut respectively. Hallie receives Chris' videos from when he was in the ISS that he sent to his then-girlfriend Darcy (now ex-girlfriend) by accident while planning Darcy's engagement party to her fiance. She watched those videos as she was drawn to him and his experiences. As she was guilty for invading his privacy and wanted to come clean to Chris that she has watched all his video messages to Darcy, she sends him a video apology via email, which has bounced back (or so she thought). Hallie then sends video diaries to that dead email address thinking no one would ever see them anyway, though unbeknownst to her, Chris has been watching them and has been drawn to Hallie ever since.

This book is just breathtaking and beautifully written! I don't think any author has ever made me fall in love with the MCs from the onset. The attraction between Hallie and Chris is just so obvious since the beginning when they haven't even met each other personally yet. I just love love love the chartacters she has created. Hallie and Chris were ordinary people, with regular jobs (although I'm not sure if I could categorize being an astronaut as a regular job - being one is absolutely amazing though) and what makes these ordinary characters so appealing to me is that they're so relatable. They had everyday issues with work, family problems, insecurities, doubts, dreams, etc.

Hallie and Chris' relationship felt so natural and clearly described the ups and downs of a relationship. The attraction, longing, pining, the sex, arguments, past relationships and long distance; I really loved all of these and more issues have been handled by the characters very well and proved that it really does take two to tango.

Rating A Cosmic Kind of Love ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5. I can't wait for everyone else to read this gem on October 18th, 2022!

DNF @ 45%

I really wanted to like this because I have loved other books written by this author but for some reason I just can’t get into it.

The first 30% before the main characters met felt very slow paced to the point I did not want to keep reading at times but kept pushing myself to see if the pace picked up once both characters had met… it didn’t.

The romance between main characters also has a bit too much insta attraction when they were still technically strangers. And anyone who knows me, knows I don’t vibe with insta anything. I much prefer a slow burn.

One of the main things I was also not enjoying was the fact that both main characters have very toxic parents. And it’s just a personal preference of mine to not read books with toxic family relationships. I think I could’ve handled it if it was just one of them that had the toxic relationship but the both of them was a bit too much.

I’ll maybe visit this again because I truly do love Samantha Young’s books.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I instantly fell in love. I can’t wait to get my hands on everything by this author. It was a sweet, adorable, unique romance that I devoured in one sitting.

I loved Chris and Hallie’s love story. From the way they met, to the drama that ensued it was all perfection. I found both very relatable in different ways. On the outside Chris seemed like he had it all, a great career, a huge social following, and the world at his fingertips. Hallie, on the other hand seemed to be judged by everyone in her life (except her amazing bestie Althea!), but was very secure in herself.

I highly recommend this book if you want a lot of romance with a bit of steam! The cover is so perfect for the story. I honestly loved everything about this book!

Wow just wow!! I don't think any other author makes me crush hard on heroines other than Samantha Young. She always manages to make me fall in love with the heroine first and then comes the hero or story and by that time Im just completely head over heels for the book.
This book was no different. I truly loved Hallie, she was relatable and such an awesome person that I couldn't help connect to her.
Our hero Chris was as full of awesomeness too. I loved reading about a profession that I have never read in books. Chris was so smart, sweet, genuine and swoon worthy.
And this plotline, it was brilliant. I just couldn't get enough of the story and Hallie and Chris chemistry. They were so perfect together and how I wish we could get more of them.
This book had some emotional parts, some laugh out loud parts, some sexy parts and some great life lessons. All in all it was a perfect Samantha Young book and a must read !! 💕

4 Cosmic Stars

I've been a fan of Ms. Young since day one. She never disappoints with her storytelling and A Cosmic Kind of Love is another heartwarming read from this author.

This book is not only heartwarming, but a bit emotional with the characters. On the outside, these two characters - Hallie and Chris, seemed to have it all. The successful life and career, but on the inside they both are deeply hurt by family. And let me tell you, the dynamic between Hallie and her parents broke my heart!

I love the way Hallie and Chris met, it's definitely a twist and I loved it. It such a millennial way. I enjoyed their character growth both as individuals and as a couple throughout the novel. These two really learned about themselves in this relationship.

Rating: 4.25/5
Warnings: death of a loved one, difficult family dynamics, divorce, cheating (in past)
Steam: 3/5
Tropes: friends to lovers, epistolary via video diaries
Representation: Mexican-American hero, mental health and LGBTQ+ rep

Thank you to NetGalley, Valentine PR and PRH Audio for access to this early ARC and ALC.

Imagine my fortune to be approved for this book in two formats in the same week...A Cosmic Kind of Love was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022. Not only because of the blurb but because I have loved Samantha Young's past novels.

Things I Loved: NYC setting. Unique careers for these characters...I've never read about a astronaut hero and I'm here for it. I really loved the way these characters (mostly) communicated openly and honestly with one another once they met. Nice balance between feel good/sweet romance with emotionally tangible real world issues. Both MCs have difficult dynamics with the family they have and I think the author handled it well. I loved the epilogue and the friend group.

Things I Didn't Care For: These two humans so wanted to believe the best in others/or people please...at times this was hard to read.

A Cosmic Kind of Love is out of this world! It is a beautifully written, sexy, smart love story. Simply put this book is a bright, shining star in the romance genre. Add Chris Ortiz to your book boyfriend list too. There are NOT enough stars in the galaxy to rate this book.

Best quotes from the book:

"His ass is a gift from God!"

"My astronaut rocketed me to the stars!"

Thank you Berkley Publishing Group for the advance reader copy.

Surprising I loved this book. I didn't had many expectations from this one but it was a great read. The plot was definitely unique.

Their relationship from the beginning was so cool. The development of their relationship was represented so well. I loved how he helped her to confront her parents.

The reasons he didn't wanted to go back were also mentioned well. I loved him from the beginning. They both were a great match.

What I didn't liked was his ex girlfriend Darcy and his father. They both were total assholes. I wished he would have listened to her. And it's obvious that your girl will not like you hanging out with your ex girlfriend. It lost one star because of that.

Overall it's a cute, light hearted, little emotional read. I would definitely recommend it.

Hallie + Chris

They don't know each other. And they won't meet for a little while longer.
Hallie found Chris in an email file that a client accidentally sent her.
It was supposed to be engagement party inspirations, but instead it's the bride's ex sending her video-letters from SPACE! Yup. From the International Space Station, where he was a year ago.
And Hallie just can't resist watching those videos. She's halfway in love with the hot astronaut already. And since she knows that the email address doesn't exisist anymore she answers with her own diary videos - where she talks about her crazy life.
But those videos don't get lost in space - they arrive ...
And Chris seems just as fascinated by what he sees and hears.

What will happen with Hallie + Chris?
Will we get a happily ever after?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺

I received a gifted galley of A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE by Samantha Young for an honest review. Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group, PRH Audio, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review!

A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE follows the dual perspectives of Hallie and Christopher. Hallie is an event planner working on planning an engagement party when the bride accidentally sends her a link to the video files sent by her ex-boyfriend Christopher from the International Space Station. She knows she shouldn’t, but she watches them all and forms an instant bond to this man she’s never meant.

Hallie needs to confess what she’s done, so she sends Christopher an email. When he instructs his person at NASA to make it look like the email didn’t go through, she continues to send video messages of her own as a sort of way of journaling. What Hallie doesn’t know is that Christopher is not only receiving them, but is also intrigued by them and is determined that they need to meet.

This was a fun read. I am not huge on the keeping secrets from people in books, so I loved Hallie’s initial bravery at telling Chris that she had seen his videos to be up front. I struggled a bit more with Chris’ own struggle with telling Hallie the truth at times and the issues of jealousy and secrecy between them.

That said, I did really love the banter between these two as they get to know each other and the way their relationship felt natural because they did already have insights into each other’s lives. Getting glimpses of Christopher’s career as an astronaut on the ISS was really interesting as well.

This was an overall fun, quick read! Happy Publication Day to A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE!

Overall, I enjoyed the story and the characters. There were a few times where I had to suspend disbelief, but the rest was so likeable, I didn't mind.

A Cosmic Kind of Love is a unique romantic story that pulled me in with the main love interest (Christopher) having been on the International Space Station. This book is a fun read for cold months when you just want to curl up with a sweet romance, but it does have some issues for me. Primarily, I don't like the creepy way that Hallie violates the privacy of Christopher and Hallie's client Darcy.

Getting past that (which is admittedly at the beginning and disclosed fairly quickly) the main characters are very likable and it is a cute story.
