A Cosmic Kind of Love is a really great way to relax, unwind and de-stress. It's a light read, cute and sweet , fun, romantic and so swoony. I loved it.
The characters seem like the average, very day, regular people, with struggles, just like any normal person.
Hallie and Chris, are characters we all can identify easily, and we can relate to. I loved Hallie's little mishaps, which made her all the more lovable, and Chris, oh he is just such a great, lay back, sweet man. He is respectful, charming, down to earth despite being a well known astronaut. He is a sweet guy who is trying to find himself after his space adventure. These 2 were ridiculously cute and hot together. The made smile and sigh with happiness. I loved Hallie's friend she was hilarious. Now the parents... well let me just say...Hallie's parent's were childish and so undeserving of her, and I loved it when she finally stood up for herself. Chris's father... he too ,didn't deserve such a great son as Chris was, I wanted to punch his lights out lol. I was happy Chris had at least his aunt in his life, for guidance, love and support
All in all I really enjoyed reading this story very much.
Cosmic Kind of Love is just one of those books you can't help but fall in love with.
If you've never had the pleasure of reading a Samantha Young novel before, this is just a wonderful place to start.
Her writing will draw you in, her characters are unique and her story telling is divine.
You will fall in love with Hallie and her quirkiness, you will fall in love with Chris and his swoon worthy ways. You will fall in love with both of them falling in love with each other. I think it's safe to say you will fall in love.
A Cosmic Kind of Love is Samantha Young’s newest release and it was a fantastic friends to lovers romance. I loved the way this couple met- so unique! And of course watching them become friends and fall in love.
Hallie is an event planner who is never taken seriously by most of the people in her life. Her job is challenging and she’s great at it, but her parents and friends/family see her as a glorified party planner who doesn’t take anything series. Captain Christopher Ortiz is respected and taken very seriously. He’s an astronaut who’s getting used to being back on earth.
These two are drawn to each other and feel comfortable with one another right away. They were so sweet together but you could feel the tension and the chemistry they had right under the surface. I especially loved how much Captain Chris accepted Hallie for who she was and showed her so much respect and care. She desperately needed someone like that in her life.
This was sweet, fun, and charming and left me with a huge smile on my face. This is a romance I would definitely recommend!
When planning an engagement party, Hallie discovers these old video diary recordings addressed to the soon-to-be bride. Mesmerized by astronaut Chris Ortiz, Hallie sends video diaries to what she thinks is an invalid email address. But, Chris has actually received them, watched them, and finds himself attracted to the pink-haired woman. Interested to see what she’s all about, Chris hires her to plan his own retirement party. What blossoms is an undeniable cosmic connection, an open friendship, and possibly… something more?
It was A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE story indeed. Not only in the literal sense with our main hero was a hot astronaut, but how two people who were so different yet so similar found each other. The video diaries were a nice touch. I also enjoyed seeing Hallie and Chris’ friendship unfold into passionate romance.
At the risk of making a bad joke - this book really was out of this world amazing.
I LOVED the chemistry and sizzle between Chris and Hallie. I adored their personalities. And I really liked that they both had their own personal struggles, and demons to overcome, as well as romantic angst being in the story. Watching their personal growth as well as their relationship grow was beautiful.
Samantha Young just knows how to spin a tale that keeps you hooked right till the end. I could have kept reading about these two till they were grey and old. And the world building is always so rich and well researched! Definitely one of my top 5 reads for this year. Do yourself a favour and read this one!
Where do I begin with this book. First of all, I absolutely adore Samantha Young and the way she hooks her readers in with her well thought out books. She has such a wide variety of stories that I wasn't quite sure what to expect with her new masterpiece. But once I started this book, it was difficult to put down.
Hallie and Chris are from two ends of the spectrum when it comes to careers, but they are innocently brought together with curiosity surrounding video letters each of them have made, Chris from the ISS, and Hallie from her apt in New York. You are drawn in around the circumstances and situations that these two people unload on each other, neither one knowing that the other is looking at these videos. When they meet its definitely instant attraction, and that's when this story really takes off. Even though both of these characters have their insecurities, you can't help but fall completely in love with them. The fact that he's an astronaut only adds to the attraction, and you really want them to work out. Full of angst between family issues, ex partners, and insecurities, but I absolutely loved it. Samantha Young has another great book on her hands, and I for one am thrilled!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
This was one of my MOST anticipated romances of the year by one of my very favorite authors and it did NOT disappoint!
I loved the unique premise of an event planner and an astronaut falling in love through videos they send anonymously to each other. This was very much an opposites attract, friends to lovers, dual POV, slow burn romance with some great steamy scenes!
Hallie and Christopher bond over their shared toxic parental relationships and I enjoyed how that was such a central theme of the story. Christopher has a very rocky relationship with his Mexican American father and is seeking a greater connection to his Latinx heritage, while people pleasing Hallie is exhausted from being stuck in the middle of her parent's divorce.
Heartfelt and full of humor, this was great on audio narrated by Andi Arndt and Noah B. Perez. Highly recommended for fans of Nothing but the truth by Holly James or Love on the brain by Ali Hazelwood. Much thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @PRHAudio for a complimentary audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
I had really high hopes for this one because I've loved a couple of previous books by this author. Maybe because I did come in with such high expectations, I kind of set myself up for disappointment in a way. Not in the way you think but more along the lines of I wanted to love it but the way the story was told made it difficult for me to fully become invested. I mean, it's really cute but if I'm honest, it's nothing too special. It's still really enjoyable but make sure not to go in with high expectations.
I received this free eARC novel from the author and NetGalley. This is my honest review.
I adore Samantha Young and was very excited to dive into this new novel of hers! It was very original and unique - I can't say I've read a romance about an event planner and an astronaut before, so it was fresh, entertaining, and so much fun!
Chris is kinda floundering throughout this book, which is really a refreshing way to look at the main guy character. I like that he is trying to figure out his life and what he wants, because that is how ALL OF US normal humans feel. Or at least I do, to be honest. To read about someone who is social media popular and still feeling that way really gets the reader to realize that everyone, no matter how much you may see them on TV, may have their own small problems but it just not look like that to you since they are popular and beloved by so many.
And Hallie is a spitfire. Being in the middle of your parents is terrible, and she had a long task ahead of her to get to where she needed to be internally. I love that she met Chris because she was able to realize what she needed to do. I'm not saying that Chris changed her, cause I would never vote for that lifestyle at all. Chris showed her how he viewed her and she grew from that positivity. She learned what she wanted in her life and she made so many hard, tough plunges. She honestly is my hero because there are moments in my life that I wish I could be that bold and honest.
And things weren't always rainbow and sunshine between Chris and Hallie, and I ALSO appreciated that. This book honestly was like reading about a normal relationship and a normal lifestyle in a normal world. It didn't feel fiction, it felt like reading a story that could be about me...er, well if you take away a lot of factors. But the FEELINGS is what I related to and why this book hit harder than a lot of books I've read. I connected it to a deeper level. Whether that just means I've been going through the same things Hallie and Chris go through, or if this can generate with a lot of other readers, I'm not sure, but I DO know that I loved this book because of all of the things I've listed above.
I'm so glad I got the chance to read this book and can't wait to add it to my physical library and ever growing shrine to Samantha Young!
I’ll be updating with a full review at a later date.
I really enjoyed this book! I found both main characters extremely likable and the premise of their unintentional meeting refreshing and unique. I would have liked more development into Javier Ortiz, (Christopher’s father’s) past, but at times there was almost too much weight on Hallie and Christopher and their childhood baggage. I was also a bit disappointed when Christopher just abruptly called off the retirement party. The book was fine in length, but perhaps could have been restructured time wise and as far as events were focused upon. I did enjoy the book very much and will look forward to future books by the author.
I read this as part of an online reading group @letstalkbookspromo Our chat and posting dates are not until the second week of October, closer to publication date. I’ll be updating this review and sharing on my Instagram account @on_a_sandbar
With a slight twist on epistolary romance, Samantha Young has given us a unique romance between a astronaut and an event planner.
Hallie and Chris both come very dysfunctional families that have deeply affected how they interact with the world, and with relationships. As they learn to put their own selves first, and what’s truly important, they open themselves to each other.
Chris is a protective swoon worthy hero, but is still very human and blinded by what he hoped to be true over what was actually true. Especially as it related to his relationship with his father.
This was a bit of a slow burn, but it definitely picked up half way through the book. Once that spark was lit between Chris and Hallie, there is no denying their chemistry.
A star crossed lover story that I don't think will convert any romance non-believers, but a warm and enjoyable story for genre die hards.
Thank you so much for an advanced copy of A Cosmic Kind of Love. This was an entertaining read!

I thought this book brought a lot of elements together into one entertaining read. It was emotional and a bit angsty while giving me characters that I felt for and related to on a lot of levels. The book approaches some subjects lightly so as not to be overly triggering, but don't mistake that for a shallow approach. The main characters are deeply layered and well-developed, and I really liked them!
Hallie was such a sweet soul with a heart of gold, and it broke my heart when people took advantage of her. She avoids conflicts, though, and that *sometimes* gives people the avenues they need to take advantage of her, which irritated me. I also thought it was a little creepy how she was almost obsessed with the videos of Christopher. I did think their connection was real, though, and I enjoyed the playfulness and honest of Hallie's videos to Chris.
This book has a lot of heart, and I enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely recommend it to my friends and followers! I ultimately rated it three stars, though, because I don't think I'll re-read it. Once was enough for me with this book, and one of my main qualifiers for a four star rating is that I can see myself re-reading it.
I really loved this book! Chris is probably my next book boyfriend, he was literally perfect. I also really enjoyed the setup. I've read a ton of romance books, but I don't seem to recall any with an astronaut as a love interest. The misunderstandings weren't overly dramatic and although it did have fluffy parts, there was a lot of time dedicated to toxic parents. The beginning was slow but it did help show the complex relationships that Hallie and Chris had with their families. The ending did leave me wanting more and that's the sole reason I'd give the book 4,5 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, another great romance from Samantha Young.
I was immediately drawn to this book by the adorable cover and title! It seemed more unique with the love story starting from video messages sent by the male MC while on the International Space Station, albeit NOT to the female MC! Hallie is a people pleaser and doesn’t like anyone being mad at her so she immediately seeks astronaut Chris out via email to apologize. She thinks the email address no longer works so sends video messages pouring out her frustrations. Chris sees these messages and feels a connection.
The love story was cute and sweet. However, I had a hard time really connecting to Chris and Hallie. He was kind of a jerk and dismissive, but at other times overly sensitive to Hallie’s needs so it didn’t always make sense. Sometimes even their conversations seemed stilted and juvenile.
I also didn’t really enjoy the fact that the parental relationships were all strained. Neither of the MCs got along with their parents.
My favorite characters were Aunt Richelle and Althea. They were amazing secondary characters that spoke truth to the hard-headed MCs.
It was a sweet and fast read. Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I really enjoyed a Cosmic Kind of Love. I thought the story line was well developed and the book was written really well. I also really liked the different characters. I enjoyed reading and seeing Hallie and Chris together. They were so cute together!
Is this a match made in outer space?
Sort of.
Hallie Goodman and Captain Christopher Ortiz were never in each other's orbit. That is until a mistakenly sent video.
While Chris' videos during his time as an astronaut in space were just for his then girlfriend, Darcy, Hallie finds herself watching them anyway. And falling head over heels in the process. Always honorable, she starts her own videos to Chris as an apology, putting their stars into alignment, so to speak.
Both main characters grew up in unstable families that have made an impact on their daily lives. For Hallie, she is caught between her divorced parents battling for attention. Ever the people pleaser, she does anything for them while getting nothing in return. For Chris, he is forever living in his dead brother's shadow, never good enough for his dad, despite being in the Air Force and NASA. When their paths finally cross in person, neither is in the best frame of mind, feeling vulnerable and uncertain. But they offer each other comfort and guidance to get past the rocky times and find a beautiful connection in the process. I loved how they both gave one another the confidence to stand up to their parents, it was long overdue.
Overall, this was a charming story with easy-to-like main characters. Once those two are on the same page, the sky's the limit.
Samantha Young brings us a story of second chances. We have an event planner and an astronaut who meet at a wedding. Hallie receives an email from her client Darcy as she helps her create her perfect wedding. But to her surprise, she finds videos of astronaut Christopher Ortiz during his mission in space. Fascinated, Hallie keeps watching them. But guilt has riddled her and she sends one of her own videos to Christopher. Being assured that her videos keep bouncing around in the universe, she keeps sending the videos knowing that no one is watching them. Instead, Christopher has been watching her videos unbeknownst to her.
Darcy's wedding brings our two characters together. When they meet, instant sparks fly. But will it be enough? Once the past starts to interfere with their lives, will they be stronger because of it? Or, will it tear their fragile bond apart?
Samantha Young brings us story of how opposites attract. She brings us a story filled with love and wonder. You find a story filled with new love and past loves. There is a story with heart, laughter, and love.
I read and received an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group, Berkley, and Samantha Young for this privilege.
I really like Samantha Young and this book was so good! Reading about Hallie and Christopher was great and I liked that it had chapters in each of their points of views. I loved these two characters and their jobs were very cool too. I loved his aunt! The rest of their family was a mess and it was interesting to see Hallie and Chris deal with the issues they had with them. I loved the premise of this because it was so different. And she did a good job writing about Chris and how he was struggling with his Hispanic identity. This was funny, cute and fast-paced.
When event planner Hallie Goodman accidentally comes across astronaut Christopher Ortez’s personal video messages to his girlfriend, she should delete them, but curiosity gets the better of her and she starts watching them. This turns into a full blown obsession, and when she tries to come clean, it backfires in a way she did not see coming. Karma strikes, in the funniest of ways, and when Chris and Hallie finally meet they both know a whole host of personal facts about each other that they’re not willing to own up to. Herein starts a friends to lovers romance that is sweet, sexy and fun. They both have parental baggage that causes numerous emotional issues, add in a needy ex-girlfriend and there’s quite a bit of added angst. It took quite a bit of effort for them both to stand up to their parents, parents who I might add were extremely selfish and undeserving of such wonderful, dedicated children. An original storyline (I loved the video diaries), and wonderful characters. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
