"Fate? Or coincidence? Was there a fine line between both?"
A Cosmic kind of love by Samantha Young 🌌☄️🌠
Hallie Goodman is an event planner in New York's leading event management firm. In the digital files, her client send her for planning the engagement party, Halie found the digital video messages that her client's ex boyfriend sent her a year back, from space🛰
Before she knew it, Hallie was watching all of Chris's videos in which he mentions a number of things about space along with his personal thoughts and feelings.
She feels at unease for having gone through such private messages and decides to send Chris an apology video on the NASA email address he mentioned. But the email address seems to be dead as her mails are bouncing back.
Hallie's life is messy & chaotic because of her people pleasing tendencies which everyone seems to take advantage of & she also often finds herself dragged in between the fights of her divorced parents. On one lonely day, she decides to record her feelings & talk about her crazy life and sends it to the discontinued NASA email address, after all no one can see them, right?
Captain Christopher Ortiz is still adjusting to his life on earth and figuring out what to do next, after coming back from space while constantly being in grief of his older brother's death & trying to figure out (rather avoid) his relationship with his father, for whom anything Chis does is never good enough.
When his friend from NASA's IT department forwards him the videos messages Hallie sent, he couldn’t care much and therefore asks to make it look like the email address is dead. But the videos don’t stop coming and soon Chis finds himself attracted towards a certain woman with pink hairs & blue eyes and her incredible sence of humour.
Separated by screens, Chris & Hallie are falling for each other, one transmission at a time. But what would happen when they will meet in real life?
This book is cute & sweet with a number of crazy & hilarious moments along with the depth & drama of Chris & Hallie's family.
I was really invested in both of their messy lives, though I confess I got really angry at a number of side characters & wanted to punch them square in the face [I'm this 🤏 close to getting my boxing gloves out🥊]
Apart from these annoying side characters, there are 2 amazing people in Chris & Hallie's life, whom i really love. First is Althea, the most supportive & fiercely protective bestie of Hallie. Though I love her always being there for her, one of my favourite moments will be her pushing down a certain someone in the pool for being mean to Hallie😂🤭
Second is Chris's Aunt Richelle, she's the supportive parent figure in Chris's life who encourages him to do what he really wants in his life rather than getting influenced by his father's meddling. She's also very wise.
“You fall in love with the person, Chris, not the face. Otherwise it isn’t love.”
The book talks about self worth & putting oneself first is a beautiful way. The characters are flawed & you would love to watch them evolve in their lives by learning to deal with their family problems and life choices by putting themselves first✨️
"Sometimes you just need the reminder that you’re doing a good job, that you’re appreciated. We all need that, no matter who we are or what we’re doing.I feel appreciated today & I feel appreciative."
There are number of subjects like verbal and psychological parental abuse, cheating, feeling of not belonging to one's culture & heritage that the author has approached with care.
Thank you so much Netgalley, Valentine PR, Berkeley Publishing & Author Samantha Young for the eARC in exchange of an honest review
Pink-haired event planner, Hallie, accidentally views personal videos from famous latinx NASA astronaut meant only for his girlfriend whose wedding Hallie is now planning, to someone else. Then she watches them again and again. And then she thinks it’s a good idea to tell him the truth. Her life is already a mess anyways, why not?!
I enjoyed this unique story about falling in love over the internet with a stranger. The characters and the humor are great. The banter is EVERYTHING between these two and I’m here for strong female MCs (even if they don’t know it yet)! Superb romcom material.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Valentine PR, Berkley and Sam for the advance reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review!
I loved this book! It was easy to lose myself in this novel!
The romance between Hallie and Christopher can only be described as kismet. It’s a friends-to-lovers, slow burn with a technological meet cute that will leave you swooning and weak in the knees.
Hallie has my dream job! She works at a highly sought after party planning company.
And Christopher is so accomplished! He’s a young RETIRED astronaut 🧑🚀.
Where’s my space hottie? 😍
The description of A Cosmic Kind of Love was so close to one of my all-time favorite catnip tropes (anonymous communicators/mistaken identities) that I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did! I loved the start of the book with the exchange of video diaries that neither realized the other was watching. It then morphed into a friends-to-lovers (another catnip trope) slowish burn that I devoured. The two MCs were super interesting-- a former astronaut who never really intended to go to space and a people-pleasing big-time event coordinator. Both have complicated family issues and delightful supportive people in their lives. Some communication issues were at the heart of the conflict, which sometimes bothers me, but they were handled really well, IMO. Overall, a fun read!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my thoughts.
3.75stars-A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE by Samantha Young is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, romance story line focusing on thirty-five year old, US Air Force Captain and NASA Astronaut Captain Christopher Ortiz, and thirty year old, event planner Hallie Goodman.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Hallie and Christopher ) using present day and video diaries, A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE follows the building romance and relationship between thirty-five year old, US Air Force Captain and NASA Astronaut Captain Christopher Ortiz, and thirty year old, event planner Hallie Goodman. Hallie Goodman is a successful Manhattan event planner who finds herself the recipient of a series of video emails sent from Captain Christopher Ortiz, on the International Space Station, to his then fiance Darcy Hawthorne back home. Darcy is newly engaged to someone else, and is hoping Hallie will plan the events of her upcoming engagement and wedding but Darcy had unknowingly sent Hallie Captain Christopher Ortiz’s video letters to home, videos that found our heroine fantasizing about the Captain, himself. Hoping to correct any mistakes, Hallie notified Christopher’s assistant but all of her messages were returned unopened. Several months earlier Captain Christopher Ortiz returned from the ISS (International Space Station) to a less than welcoming home coming when his fiancé announced she had fallen in love with someone else but an unexpected invite to his ex’s engagement party found Christopher face to face with our story line heroine, a woman who has drawn his attention when she insisted on letting him know about the videos she had received. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Chris and Hallie, and the potential fall-out as people behind the scenes begins to manipulate our story line hero, and Hallie is caught in the middle of her parents’ toxic relationship and divorce.
Hallie Goodman is a bit of a mess; a bumbler whose accidents and antics did not endear her to her latest boyfriend. Dumped for many reasons including her choices in employment and pink hair color, Hallie places all of her focus on a successful career, a career that will push her together with the man with whom she will fall in love. Meanwhile, Hallie’s parents’ toxic relationship and subsequent divorce are pulling our heroine into the middle of their fight, a fight of which is out of control. Chris Ortiz has never been good enough for his successful father, and no matter how hard he has tried, Chris finds himself second place to his father’s business, and the brother he once loved. Meeting Hallie gave Chris a second chance at love but someone else is pulling his strings, and Christopher is caught between the woman he loves, and his inability to say no to everyone else.
The relationship between Chris and Hallie begins by accident as each finds themselves watching from the sidelines, personal videos and vlogs in which they inadvertently begin a virtual dance of attraction and love. Christopher struggles with his venomous relationship with the father he barely knows, and Hallie wants to be taken seriously for herself and her choices in life. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Christopher’s ex-fiance Darcy Hawthorne, his father Javier Ortiz, and his mother’s sister Richelle; Hallie’s long suffering parents, her father’s girlfriend Miranda, Hallie’s best friend and co-worker Althea, and their boss Lia Zhang.
A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE is a very slow building story line that does not pick up until about sixty percent of the story line has passed, when our couple finally take their relationship to the next level. The premise is captivating and entertaining; the romance is seductive; the characters are frustrated, struggling, energetic and charismatic.

Oh my gosh, I am obsessed with how adorable this book turned out to be. Honestly, I was sold on the title and synopsis alone and was 100% delighted when the story lived up to my expectations. An astronaut and an event planner, what a fabulous combination. In my younger days I dreamed of being a wedding planner, so I definitely gravitated towards the character of Hallie. The idea of how her and Christopher would interact after their videos was too intriguing to pass up. Definitely, grab this book and give it a read if you're a fan of romance!

“Sometimes you just need the reminder that you’re doing a good job, that you’re appreciated. We all need that, no matter who we are or what we’re doing. I feel appreciated today, and I feel appreciative.”
I don’t know what exactly I was expecting when I started A Cosmic Kind of Love, but y’all… it’s top tier romance. I’m swooning hard. It did reminds me a bit of “Meet Me In Another Life”, which made the Top 13 of 2021 list. This had more steam, more depth, and I LOVED how this played out. Let me break it down.
Hallie is an event planner and she requested some inspo from a client. Client sends a bunch of files, which include NASA astronaut Christoper Ortiz’s video dairies to his ex (Hallie’s client) She feels guilty for watching them, and send Christopher an apology video explaining. The email she sends it to is bounced back as undeliverable, so she uses the opportunity to send more as a release since no one is going to see them, right? Oh, wrong. Christopher had IT bounce it, BUT send him every video she sends. Video by video, they start to fall for each other. But, do they really know each other knows that the other knows? (Yes, it’s a will they/won’t they)
Audio was phenomenal. I got so frustrated with Hallie because quite literal everyone in her life is toxic and trash. She was so nice and I was ready to throw down for her. You could hear her confidence breaking at each admission and it just got me.
Overall, a top 2022 contender for romcoms because this was amazing. The star crossed lovers really is something I can’t get enough of. Thanks again @prhaudio and @valentine_pr_ for the gifted copies. A Cosmic Kind of Love is out today 😍
I was provided an ARC of this book by the publisher via Netgalley, all opinions are my own.
This was an awesome love story! This has a little bit of everything I love about romance. Hallie is a little bit ridiculous at times. She is a people pleaser, so she often finds herself caught in hilarious and embarrassing situations because she doesn't want to upset anyone. Chris has recently retired from NASA and the Air Force after returning from the International Space Station. How are he and Hallie connected? Hallie is planning his ex-girlfriend Darcy's engagement party and wedding, and ended up watching the video diaries he sent to Darcy while he was in space. Hallie wasn't supposed to watch them, and now she feels guilty so she films her own video diaries and sends them to Chris. As both of them are struggling with a sense of "what do I do now?" they find comfort in each other's words from afar. When they finally meet they feel like they've known each other forever. Once they finally meet they take their time getting to know each other and support each other through some family drama and baggage they each have to work through. This unlikely couple was so fun to get to know and watch blossom!
This had some great moments of humor, some wonderful character development, and it was fairly low angst. While there was some conflict between the two main characters, you knew it wasn't going to last long. For the most part they had great conversations with each other despite the fact that Hallie is a bit self-conscious and a little insecure after many years of being treated poorly by the people that are supposed to love her. She is always worried she said the wrong thing, fortunately Chris is there to reassure her that he loves her honesty and wants her to speak her mind. This has some emotional moments and just the right amount of steam to balance everything out.
I do have one minor complaint regarding the reference to Chris making Captain in the Air Force in 4 years being a really big achievement. That is pretty standard practice in the military, and basically an automatic promotion for most officers. I also feel like he would have been at least a Major or Lieutenant Colonel after 15 years, especially if he had enough time to retire. As someone who served, I'm being picky about the details here. Do they really have any impact on the plot or the story, no not really. Most readers probably won't notice and it doesn't take away from the story at all.
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish!
If you’re looking for a sweet, feel good read, grab this new one from Samantha Young, out today! It was giving me all You’ve Got Mail vibes! While it’s a cute & quick read, with laugh out loud and wth moments, it still has a little bit of angst.
Overall I enjoyed this read, and Hallie and Christopher’s story.
A Cosmic Kind of Love is a sweet, fun, emotional read. It's an opposites attracts/ friends to lovers romance between Chris who is an astronaut and Hallie who is an event planner. The are both struggling with toxic family relationships. You get so many feels, plenty of growth and all the angst. It's a heartfelt story you will want to get your hands on.
This was a clear-my-schedule-I'm-hooked-from-the-first-paragraph sort of read for me.
Hallie is an event planner for a prestigious company in New York City. While planning a wedding, the bride accidentally sends Hallie some video messages from her ex-boyfriend. Hallie can’t help herself, and watches them all…several times through, because they’re from astronaut Christopher Ortiz, and he sent them from the International Space Station. Hallie is riveted by what he has to say and develops a bit of crush, despite feeling immensely guilty that she trespassed on such private moments.
She tries to send him a video message of her own to apologize, but it appears his email address is no longer valid because they bounce back. She feels comforted by talking to Chris in video, even though her email didn’t get through…so she starts sending more videos. But the plot thickens. The videos are actually making it through to Chris.
Even though the two of them have never met, they feel like they know each other through these videos, and when the opportunity arises (via the wedding Hallie is planning) they both contrive to meet each other and explain in person. One thing leads to another and they start dating for real.
Both of them are in difficult stages of their lives though, where they’re trying to figure out what they want next, so they each have a lot to overcome and deal with.
This author is masterful at creating characters that feel so real, and nuanced. I connected with them both at various stages of the book for quite different reasons, and was genuinely sad when I reached the end and had to say goodbye to them.

🌶️
I had a hard time getting through this one because there’s a death of a loved one, grieving and cancer (which is a tough subject for me) but I loved those whole “secret” emails that she thinks he isn’t getting or reading had me hooked. I must subconsciously be on a wedding/event planner trope kick because this is like the 3rd or 4th book in the last couple months with an event/wedding planner as the FMC, I think I was an event planner in a past life 🤷.
This book is
🪐Slowburn
🪐Friends to lovers
🪐Online dating
🪐Second Chance Romance
🪐Dual POV
Chris and Hallie are one of the solidest couples in romance that I've read lately, and I so enjoyed their slightly off-beat, unique story. What I expected to be the issues and impediments to their relationship were not, and instead they communicated and were honest with each other, even when that challenged their relationship.
For a contemporary romance with hints of humor, friends-to-lovers vibes, and for main character development make sure to check this story out as it has these and more things to inspire us to believe in our value, to speak up, and to believe that there is someone out there who may just be your soulmate.
It has been a while since I've read a book by Samantha and I was absolutely in love with the concept of the video diaries. It just seemed too cute to pass up and couldn't wait to dive right in.
The video diaries to one another definitely added to a rather unique romance and it absolutely worked for the MCs, Hallie and Chris. They really were cute together, so I devoured the first half of the book. Once you start diving more into their personal stories, especially with their family, things were becoming a bit too much for me. However, it showed why they were the way that they were. With Hallie being a people pleaser, I cheered at the moments with her development as she began to stand up for herself.
And with Chris, these two complemented each other really well, but he definitely had his moments that had me shaking my damn head. Just a bit oblivious to sum it all up.
As you get closer to the end, the drama picked up a little and that's where I was coming out of the story a bit, and just eager for their HEA.
Overall, a very enjoyable read with some extremely cute moments. I think many will enjoy this read.

4.5 ⭐️This book was so stinkin’ cute! The clandestine beginning of Hallie and Chris was just so cute. If you liked the movie the lake house with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves then you will like this. They give off very similar vibes, especially in the way they fall for each other. If you are looking for spice, I would give this a .5 but the tension is lovely and the connection between both characters feels real and realistic. This book also dealt with real-life issues, especially with adult children and parents. It hit close to home but I enjoyed both Chris’s and Hallie's growth in relation to their parents. All in all this book was great! (less) [edit]
Content Warning: This book features fatphobia (countered, from parents), toxic parents, divorced parents fighting, and drinking.
First Impressions: I’ll Meet You Halfway
I love the colours. Everything is working for me except for the representation of the main characters … are those loafers? With white socks?? I am sorry to whoever drew this. I know how hard it is to draw face profiles but these are not cute. I am not getting successful, beautiful as heck, businesswoman or hot Latinx astronaut that people admire.

Hallie Goodman, people-pleasing event planner extraordinaire, is in charge of the engagement party for New York Socialite, Darcy Hawthorne, among other important events. Constantly having to play referee to her newly divorced parents, her life feels like anything but her own. With no close friends to confide in, it’s almost like therapy when she starts sending off video messages about her mess of a life to an unmonitored email … OR IS IT?! DUN DUN DUUUN.
Christopher Ortiz is still getting used to being back on earth after his mission with NASA. Unsure what his next step in life is, but hoping to appease his impossible-to-please father, he’s feeling a little stuck. Sure, his Instagram is blowing up and the tv spots are nice but he’s never been the one to covet the spotlight, and the pressure to represent the Latinx community makes him feel like a fraud since he knows little to nothing about that part of his life. So when he starts getting emails from a pink-haired event planner, he feels a connection that’s (I am so sorry for this) out of this world.
Meet Cute: DECEPTION
Hallie receives an email from Darcy with party inspiration ideas. But they’re not party videos, they are definitely personal videos from Darcy’s ex-boyfriend, Captain Christopher Ortiz. Instead of being professional and emailing Darcy back immediately about the mix-up, she lets curiosity get the better of her and watches the videos. Multiple. Times. I mean, it’s a hot astronaut talking about space and the exciting mission he’s on, I can’t say I blame her! Realizing she’s crossed a line (after thoroughly stalking him online) and feeling extremely guilty, she sends her own video response back to the Captain apologizing.
Instead of Christopher replying back to Hallie, though, he sends a fake bounce back making her think the emails are going nowhere and no one is seeing them. THE DECEPTION. Hallie sends off a couple more videos and Christoper is very intrigued. When he sees an invite to Darcy’s engagement party he thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to finally meet this Hallie Goodman … who has invaded his privacy but is also extremely cute … so all is forgiven.
The Lean: Slow and Steady
Romance GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY
It’s a slow burn. With the back and forth of video watching between the two of them, Hallie describing her hot mess of a life and Christopher explaining about cool space stuff, I was dying for them to meet. They’re flirty and cute and soon you’re begging for them just to kiss already! Seriously 248 pages in and finally some action. The romance was realistic and felt very healthy, until the miscommunication. I know they’re only human and people make mistakes but HONESTLY, CHRISTOPHER!
Dirty Talk: I See You Shiver With Antici-
It is impossible not to feel Hallie and Christopher’s emotions right along with them. Young does an incredible job writing about their relationship from the moment they meet to when they start dating, and their moments together are memorable. The anticipation was killing me … and killing me … and oh my god just bang already. Young gets you all worked up only to have it interrupted by some insecurity or confession and while that is probably the case in 90% of first-time experiences and refreshing to read, sometimes, you just want the characters to get it on.
Christopher has a handful of Spanish he’s learned and one thing he picked up was a pet name from a friend: “Mi Cielo,” which means my heaven or sky. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again:
Pet👏🏻 names👏🏻are👏🏻 cringey👏🏻during👏🏻sexy👏🏻times👏🏻.

“Then I checked her readiness, fingers searching gently … I gripped her by the thighs and pushed in … Hallie gasped, her inner thighs drawing up tight against my hips … Her lips parted on a cry as I slipped my hand between our bodies and thumbed the bundle of nerves at her apex.”
Not super explicit but still very hot.
We Need to Talk: Is This Real Life?
I loved that Young wrote about Hallie and Christopher not having sex all week because she was on her period. I have never read that in a romance novel! Also, Christopher asking what Hallie wanted in bed and not just assuming he was the best thing to happen to her was A+. The condom use also stands out (sex ed teachers rejoice) but it doesn’t get in the way of the lovemaking.
Our love birds are working on themselves and their relationships with their parents, they are supportive and respectful of one another and they have open communication! It had me yearning for shit to hit the fan. I wanted more drama! Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait too long for that to happen!

I was not disappointed with this book. It had fully developed characters and enough stuff happening outside of the romance that you were never bored with the characters. It was everything I love in a romance novel!
FTC Full Disclosure: I received this book from Berkley | Penguin Random House, did not receive payment for this review—and I now have pink hair. A Cosmic Kind of Love is available now.
Upfront: I appreciated the premise and I love the fact Chris was an astronaut. I grew up just down the road from Johnson Space Center in Houston and even interned on-site in college. Space is a fascinating subject and I really liked that Samantha Young incorporated that in Chris's station videos.
Now, I personally think this book was too long. We said a bunch without really saying a lot if you know what I mean. This unfortunately had me feeling a little bored parts of the second half. And all the jumps in time were hard to follow. One page we were going to the Hamptons and the next it was two weeks in the future recounted what happened. So, that could've been better. Another thing that I kind of hated was the toxicity of all the parents. You're grown ups, please act accordingly. To go with the toxic parents, I think Hallie's parental issues were solved really easily with little conflict after the fact. Her parents were this driving force for the majority of the book then all of a sudden she stands up for herself once , there's a silent treatment and they both go "You know, you're right" and all is forgiven.
Besides my grievances I really did enjoy this book. There were some instances when I couldn't help but do that cutesy little giggle and the steamier scenes were nice too! So because of that I'm giving this book 3.5/5 and rounding up to a 4!
Thank you Valentine PR for providing this eARC through NetGalley. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Samantha Young's A Cosmic Kind Of Love gave me big, swoony heart feelings even though I went into this book fairly certain it was going to be one giant fluff piece. It was certainly not that!
Hallie Goodman and Captain Chris Ortiz are each going through their own not too recent trauma which makes certain parts of the book angsty as heck. And then there were my own feelings of should Hallie have been watching these videos randomly sent by his ex-fiance.
Chris' ex-fiance accidentally sent his videos from when he was on the International Space Station, and rather than send them back, Hallie is responding with her own videos - like a private diary. When Chris gets Hallies response, he has his secretary Kate bounce them back to her as though he hasn't seen them. So in my mind they're both being kind of less than truthful when he appears at his ex-fiance's wedding shower just to get to know Hallie - Hallie comes straight out that she watched all the videos and it was something she shouldn't have done. Chris lies to her again about maybe, kind of wanting to have his own retirement party.
Y'all when I tell you, my response at that point was to have try very, VERY hard not to throw my phone against the wall! Because now Chris just keeps lying, and Hallie could get in serious trouble if he sets her up to do this retirement party and then backs out. At the same time both of their families are just awful. You know that kind of awful that makes your head and stomach hurt all at the same time?
So much angst!! Hallie is a people pleaser, and every time she gets stuck in between her divorced parents again, I just wanted to scream. Chris' response on the other hand is straight up avoidance. He doesn't seem to understand that his father is manipulating him again, it just made me so sad - Chris wanted their relationship to be better and it was NOT getting there.
This is DEFINITELY the sloooow burn kind of book I crave at least four or five times a year, so prepare yourself for that because otherwise you might just be at the 72% of the book screaming to yourself wondering if they're never actually going to kiss.
And the people pleasing aspect and avoidance of both Hallie and Chris personalities makes communication incredibly difficult for both of them until various people actually slam it down in front of them that nothing will change unless they grow.
I absolutely love, LOVED Althea and Chris' Aunt Richelle, but Althea and Hallie's coworker Dominic definitely needed a strong swift jab to the throat region, and I think I still want to unalive both the rest of their families. I don't think there's enough growth to make them salvageable.
A Cosmic Kind Of Love is definitely worth 5 out of 5 stars for new to me Author Samantha Young, this book will surely not be my last by her!!
