The bromance book club series have been some of my favorite contemporary romances. The newest novel, A Very Merry Bromance, out now, is no exception. It's sweet. It's funny. It's got just the right amount of holiday.
Thank you to Berkley Publishing and Netgalley for the electronic copy.
Fun and cute addition to the Romance Bookclub series. I'm a sucker for a smutty Christmas book (as the boys pointed out, they're harder to find than you'd think), and I always enjoy reading the pearls of wisdom that the boys have learned from reading their romances. Fun grumpy/sunshine, too!
I do wish that the book that was the 'manual' for this story had been incorporated a bit more toward the end-- we heard about it a bit up front, but then not much in the back half. But, overall, it didn't detract too much from the rest of the story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my thoughts.
NOTHING COMPARES TO THE BROMANCE BOOK CLUB SERIES!!
PLUS ITS CHRISTMAS! I loved this book! I won't ever stop talking about it! This book is definitely going to be read every December!
Tropes: Grumpy/sunshine, holiday romance, found family.
A Very Merry Bromance is the fifth book in the Bromance Book Club series. So far, I've enjoyed every book I've read, and although A Very Merry Bromance is not my favorite book in the series, it was still a fun story. I liked the love interest, Colton, but it took me a while to warm up to the main heroine, Gretchen. She didn't treat Colton well for most of the book, so it was hard to like her and cheer for the couple. I would still recommend A Very Merry Bromance for romance readers looking for a fun Christmas book.
Thanks to Berkley Publishing Group, the author, and NetGalley for the free gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
Dare I say my favorite Lyssa Kay Adams book is her Christmas story??? A Very Merry Bromance was so good and honestly did not revolve around Christmas much.
I am seriously obsessed with the world that Lyssa Kay Adams is creating revolving around lots of professional athletes and celebrities, and I am truly a sucker for both sports and celebrity romance.
The second chance romance trope, where the guy is head over heels in love with the girl and doesn’t give up is always a favorite of mine.
I think Lyssa Kay Adams is a must-read author for me at this point. I think I need to do an author ranking post for her books so I can compile my favs!
If you are in the mood for a romantic comedy I recommend picking this one up or any of Lyssa Kay Adams's books.
Let me start with this is my first read in the series and it was an easy stand alone read. It is also my first Christmas read of the season. Well still a little early for me, but thought maybe it would get me in the mood.
The rich girl avoiding her family and the country singer really did give me Hallmark movie vibes. I really connected with the characters and liked the story. A few times I started to get the cheesy vibe starting, but am happy to report, it always went away quickly. There was an extreme grumpy sunshine in this one. There is fun banter and of course lots and lots of sparks. And I chuckled a lot. I like when my rom com doesn’t lose sight of the com part way through. And for those of you avoiding the Christmas theme, there was enough to call it a Christmas book without too much to have it get old during the read. I will need to go back and find out if Vlad has his own book, because he stole the show for me.
I flipped back and forth between the print and audio and loved Andrew Eiden’s narration of this one. It could have gone on forever if it was while I was listening.
I recommend this one for a fun holiday romance read.
Once again, Lyssa makes me fall in love with the Bromance Book Club and leaves me desperate for more of this series.
Colton was a lead that I wasn’t madly in love with before going into this book, so I anticipated just liking this book fine, but once I saw how he was with Gretchen?! UGH MY HEART.
Gretchen has always been a side character in these books that I wanted to know more about and I never expected to relate to her SO MUCH, but I found myself highlighting so many parts of this story because I felt like I was being seen and understood and loved right alongside her.
She comes from a family that she never felt fully apart of and lives her life VERY differently than they do and it’s caused her to put up walls and not let many people in. But Colton comes in a wrecks those walls and wraps her up in bubble wrap and empowers her and UGH SO BEAUTIFUL.
Definitely my newest favorite in the series and I loved the holiday vibes it gave without being overly Christmas. The grumpy sunshine trope (he’s the sunshine to her grumpy) was SO well done and refreshing AND AND AND we get parts of the book the bros are reading in this one (similar to the first) AND I LOVED IT AND WANT THAT BOOK FO BE A REAL BOOK OKAY?!
Anyhoo, I’m obsessed and I swear Lyssa has created these fictional men as both a prize to the women of the world and as a way for us to hope for better from the men in our lives.
OBSESSED.
Lyssa Kay Adams does it again! I LOVE the Bromance Series and all the fellas. However, Colton is now my new favorite leading man. I'm a sucker for a country star, and Colton is just that. This grumpy/sunshine trope gave it all to me, and I liked how Colton was the sunshine and Gretchen was the grumpy one. Please add this boy to the top of your holiday TBR stacks. You won't regret it!
Thank you, Berkley Romance and Penguin Random House Audio, for my gifted copies.
I found this story a bit disappointing. I guess that can be an unintended consequence of setting a really high bar with the prior entries in a series! It is still a delight to see the whole Bromance Book Club together again. You'll get the guys' usual endearing antics, as well as moments of real tenderness and lots of steam between the two MCs, and cozy Christmas-y vibes here and there. However, the main conflict is of the made-me-want-to-throw-it-at-the-wall variety. And the contortions around each MC's attempt to make a grand gesture were admitted by the characters themselves to be nonsensical and without real consequence. It's tough to have a story undercut it's own stakes like that and still feel as though it is a satisfying read. I would only suggest this one to die-hard fans of the series and not as a starting place or standalone.
I don’t think any new holiday romances will be able to top this one. The bromance series is just so fun to read!
A year ago, country superstar Colton Wheeler and immigration lawyer Gretchen Winthrop had an amazing night together. Colton expected this to be the beginning of their happily ever after. Instead, Gretchen rushed out of his room and has avoided him since.
Now as Christmas approaches, Colton still nurses a bruised heart. To make matters worse, his label doesn’t like any of his new songs, and he fears for his career’s future. It’s enough to make this jolly life of the party a grinch.
Gretchen, part of the Winthrop whiskey family, hates the excess of the holiday when It could be better used to help those in need, like her clients who can’t afford her services. Instead, her clinic runs on grants and donations. Her brother summons her to the lavish family home and makes her an irresistible offer that appeals to her largess. But there is a catch: convince Colton to become the Winthrop Whiskey spokesperson.
Colton agrees to hear the offer If Gretchen goes on a date with him, and when he learns of her distaste of Christmas, he decides to transform her from Scrooge to Tiny Tim with the guidance of the bromance book club, and prove that he is a worthy partner. The real Scrooge, though, stands in the way of their happiness.
The guys are always fun characters, and this book introduces Gretchen’s uncle Jack who made some poor decisions but redeemed himself. I liked that Gretchen’s career brings attention to issues regarding immigration as well as all the insider information about the country music industry. I thought Colton was a little too pushy at times, and (in unrelated contexts) Gretchen too unwilling to communicate, but thought they made a cute couple overall.
You’ll like this if you enjoyed the other books in the series or the following characteristics appeal to you::
🎄Grumpy/Sunshine Trope
🎄Nashville at Christmas
🎄Interesting Careers
🎄Family Drama
It’s that time of year again! The time where I fake it ‘til I make it by barfing Christmas spirit all over the house once the clock strikes midnight on November 1st. This year I doubled down on my crazy by requesting eleventy-two Christmas rom coms from NetGalley and what better way to kick things off than with my go-to gal Lyssa Kay Adams and the Bros we’ve all come to love.
This time around it’s Colton and Gretchen’s turn. He’s a country music superstar, she’s an immigration attorney with her own pro bono clinic. The two had a spicy one-off at their pals’ wedding and Colton has been pining ever since. A potential business deal and some undeniable mutual attraction draws these two back together a year later in a flip on the grumpy/sunshine with the female lead playing the part of a Grinchy Scrooge. It delivers when it comes to witty banter and most importantly the smexytimes . . .
My only complaint is the usual one with the unnecessary conflict that causes a break-up/almost instantaneous make-up at the end because god forbid the two main characters actually speak to each other like dang adults. I realize I’m in the minority when it comes to this opinion and that it is a driving force behind what sells books so it will be included for the remainder of time. This one was extra annoying, though, that the lead was just going to walk away from her entire life. Way to be a real shitty representative for your at-risk clients, Gretchen! All in all, though, these Bros and their Hoes are my peeps so 4 Stars.

Thank you to Netgalley and Berkely romance for this amazing ARC!! I absolutely love the bromance book club and this book is now in my top 3 of the series. I have been waiting for a storyline of Colton and Lyssa Kay Adams did not disappoint! I am a big fan of a sunshine x grumpy trope but what makes it better when the grump is the main female character! Gretchen is such a strong female lead character and I don't like calling her the grump because she's like this from all her childhood trauma I just love how sweet and tender Colton is with her! On top of the tropes, the setting of the book is Christmas, and definitely puts me in the holiday spirit!!
This book made me laugh, smile, and shed a tear or two during those tender moments. I love how the two characters don't come together just of the sake of finishing up the book, but because they finally realize they complement each other and truly bring out the best in each other.
The character development played a huge plot line for both characters and I believe that's what makes them so loveable!!
After a special night together, Colton Wheeler discovers that the one thing that he wants is Gretchen Winthrop, but, Gretchen has other plans from their night together. A year later, she is forced to reconcile with the handsome Colton Wheeler for a spectacular Christmas. And this time, Colton is not letting her go from his grasp another time.
I gave A Very Merry Bromance four stars, continuing to enjoy this series. Lyssa Kay Adams continues to wow me with another of her books and I can’t help but enjoy this immensely. Colton and Gretchen were really cute together and I liked the fact this was a reverse grumpy/sunshine trope. I really enjoyed reading how Colton brought Gretchen to see the happy side of Christmas and taking her on these mini dates to prove that Christmas can be enjoyed and how Gretchen could learn to love Christmas with the right people.
One of my favorite things about A Very Merry Bromance is the fact that even after Colton, he still knew Gretchen had a special place in his heart. I loved the commitment of Colton’s feelings and I loved his commitment to showing Gretchen how to be confident in herself and believing in things that she used to think were only fantasy.
It was really nice and cozy to read A Very Merry Bromance and I love the addition of the occasional chapters of the books that they are reading. It makes me love this series a lot more and I just had such a fun time reading this.
Thank you again to NetGalley for inviting me to read A Very Merry Bromance and for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Have you ever read a series that you never ever want to end?
For me, it’s The Bromance Book Club series by @lyssakayadams 📚 They are my go-to books whenever I feel a reading slump coming, or I just need a change of pace after my nonstop suspense thrillers. There’s just something comforting reading about these romance novel-loving dudes that make me giddy and sigh with contentment. I like all the characters but I especially love Vlad, the Russian! However, I love Christmas stories and handsome country music singers too so I totally enjoyed A Very Merry Bromance! Next to enemies-to-lovers, I love sunshine/grumpy trope. I liked that it’s Gretchen who’s the grumpy one while Colton is the sunshine in this novel. Even though the story is semi-predictable, I still liked it. This novel kickstarted my holiday reads and I’m so glad I loved it! Thanks to @berkleypub and @netgalley for my ARC.💖
Are you looking for a romance to put you in the holiday mood? Look no further than here! This one has all The Christmas Carol references you could ever want.
A VERY MERRY BROMANCE by Lyssa Kay Adams was so sweet. It’s the ultimate grumpy x sunshine romance. Colton was someone I adored the entire time while reading, I’ll be honest and say Gretchen did sort of annoy me at times but not enough to give up on her.
I do wish there had been more book club interactions instead of them being so brief. Also, the story could benefit from having a few interactions a bit more fleshed out. This one unfortunately isn’t high on my favorites of this series list, but it’s still a good time.
The next book better be about the Cheese Man [Roman] or I will absolutely riot. I’m hoping for the Bromance Book Club shenanigans to be in full swing again because they were sorely missed this time around.
I have read all the books in the Bromance series and they are always enjoyable quick, easy reads. In this story an immigration lawyer and a country music star have a reluctant (on her part) attraction to each other but the path is never smooth. Her wealthy but highly dysfunctional family manipulates her life and relationships and she and her music man have to find a path to be together on their own terms, without interference from her family or his handlers. This is a very readable and fun romance and it follows the formula for the Bromance series quite well.
I generally wait until after our Thanksgiving leftovers are packed up and the kitchen clean before starting any Christmas-themed books. But when the notoriously finicky ARC approval fairies from Berkley gift you with a highly anticipated book, you read it close to the publication date!
A Very Merry Bromance is another amusing, heartwarming addition to the Bromance Book Club series. Each of the books can be read as standalones, but I really feel each story is enhanced by other members of the book club and knowing their stories. In this fifth book, we read about famous country musician Colton and immigration attorney Gretchen, who had a one night stand after the wedding of one of the book club members.
In the year since their unforgettable night together, Colton has been pining for Gretchen, whereas Gretchen has done all she can to steer clear of Colton. But then Gretchen is coerced into having a conversation with Colton when her family, a well-known whiskey maker, wants to sign him for an endorsement deal. Not one to let an opportunity pass him by, Colton parlays Gretchen’s request into a series of dates where Gretchen falls more in love with the sunshiny hero and Colton learns more about the childhood that, not surprisingly, turned Gretchen into a grump.
This is the first book of the series that I’ve read. All the others were audiobooks, and the narrator of this series (Andrew Eiden) takes these stories from good to fantastic. And I think that may have contributed to my feeling like this one had a bit of a slower start. But these are characters I’ve grown to love so my interest never waned.
Where things got a little off track for me is with my expectations. When a synopsis tells me both characters need to overcome the ghosts of Christmas past, that’s what I’m looking for. The author did a great job with Gretchen’s backstory - the main theme of this book is that a person’s past affects how they react to the present, and that was well developed with the heroine’s history.
But Colton didn’t seem to have anything in his past to overcome, and certainly nothing that caused complications in his relationship with Gretchen. His stupid behavior was just because he reacted stupidly. And after spending so much of the book being such a good, kind man, that reaction seemed so out of character. Of course, that was needed to set up the reason for the grand gesture, but it made me a little cranky all the same.
Regardless, this book had a really strong second half and I loved the ending. The bad guy got what was coming to him, the good guy - and girl! - won, the grand gesture was romance perfection, and happiness was earned by our hero and heroine.
I’m not sure how many more of these books there will be, but I am sure I will read AND listen if there are. These are feel-good stories that make me smile throughout the whole book and you can’t ask for much more than that!
Sidenote: the audiobook became available for check-out from my local library when I was about halfway through reading, so I started listening at the beginning. For me, Andrew Eiden elevates these stories significantly. I enjoyed reading this book, but I LOVE listening!

Spooky Season is over so it must be time for holiday reads, right? At least I am starting some, they really bring a smile to my face.
⠀
This series of books really makes me happy, so I was excited to read A Very Merry Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams. I read it in one sitting and might even read it again before Christmas. I love a good Christmas romance and this hits the spot.
⠀
For those of you who haven’t read the first four books in the series- you should, but this one, and all of them, stand alone just fine. This group of very manly men are a part of the Bromance Book Club where they read and share romance books usually targeted towards women. By reading these, they get an insight into what women want and how they should behave. They learn more about women and themselves.
⠀
They also help each other out with their own relationship advice and some good male bonding. One of my favorite male bonding scenes in this book was when the men attended a Silver Sneakers exercise class. I am sure you will laugh when you read it too.
⠀
The main attraction in this book is Colten, America’s favorite country singer. He is struggling with his music and struggling in love. He can’t get his mind off of Gretchen who loved him and left him just when Colten felt a real connection. A second chance to woo her comes when she is recruited by her estranged family to convince Colten to sign on as the face of their whiskey label.
⠀
Colten loves Christmas. Gretchen is a Scrooge. Colten wants a relationship. Gretchen doesn’t have time for that, she is an attorney trying to help refuges and those who can’t have a festive holiday. Somehow, they both have to work together towards the happiest of holidays all around.
⠀
This book club needs to grow a lot of new members because I need this series to keep on going for a very long time.
⠀
Thanks to @BerkleyPub and @NetGalley for my advanced ecopy of this fun book. It is out now, ready for your happy holiday

I've loved every book in the Bromance Book Club series — but A Very Merry Bromance is definitely my favourite!
I absolutely loved every minute of this book. The sunshine and grumpy trope, the family drama, the country music career, and the Christmas theme. Every minute of this book was pure fun and it's by far my favourite in the series. I just loved Colton and Gretchen so much!!
Highly recommend this one — for the holiday season and beyond!
This is the 5th book in the Bromance Book Club series. I've read them all and while I enjoy them they tend to be around 3.5 stars for me. But this one was my favorite of the series!
It's a grumpy/sunshine trope with a sort of enemies to lovers although not quite mixed with a hookup/second chance. I really liked the male MC Colton and Gretchen, the female MC, grew on me throughout the book. This wasn't as Christmasy as I was expecting but I didn't mind! This was a good romance with some steam and good character development.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.
