This installment of the Bromance Book Club series is nearly a stand alone as the whole club rarely makes an appearance, much to the detriment of the book. I missed the humor and commentary of a bunch of guys trying to figure relationships out. The book reads like the author was forced to write the next installment and that her heart wasn't in it. It's missing the charm and humor of the previous books.
The plot is convoluted as well with little resolution to Colton's professional troubles. After spending so much time setting it up I expected it to be a more important plot line, but it just resolves by the end of the book.
It's also not much of a Christmas book, other than Vlad in a Santa suit and the fact that it takes place at Christmas. There are allegorical references to A Christmas Carol and other holiday favorites, but misses the mark for a true holiday romance.
Maybe I'm just salty because I was truly hoping for a Malcolm story as the next installment.
This was my first time reading this author and this is book 5 in series but I felt it easily stood alone. This book definitely helped me get into the holiday spirit and I really loved it so much. It had a wonderful cast of characters and an aweome leading man, country music star, Colton and he is matched with Gretchen, an immigration lawyer. These two are very much opposites and Gretchen is the more grumpy of the two and Colton has lots of flirting and cuteness going on.
This was a really charming romance that was a perfect holiday read and I really enjoyed the story and characters. I look forward to reading the previous books in the series.
Just when I think this series can’t get any better, Lyssa comes back and WOWS us with book number five! Don’t let the holiday wrapping fool you though, Colton’s book packs a heavy punch that with hit you right in the feels. I honestly think this might be my favorite in the series so far. LOVED IT!
Colton Wheeler is the country music superstar of the Bromance Book Club group. Lately the happy-go-lucky guy has been in a funk. A year ago after Mack and Liv's wedding, Colton spent the night with Gretchen Winthrop and thought he found his soul mate. Too bad the next morning Gretchen ran for the hills. When Gretchen contacts him out of the blue a year later he's hoping she has changed her mind. Instead, Gretchen wants to know if Colton will be the spokesman for their family whiskey brand. If she can get Colton to agree, in return her brother said he would put her on the board of the family's charitable foundation. Colton agrees to consider the request if she agrees to go on a few dates with him. It's Christmas time and Colton is determined to show Gretchen how fun that time of the year can be. What he doesn't realize is all the demons her past Christmases have had. As Colton and Gretchen spend more time together, he starts to realize that she is the one. Too bad whenever he gets close, Gretchen has a tendency to run. After meeting her estranged family, Colton starts to understand more about Gretchen. When things get out of hand at the foundation's gala, all hell breaks loose. It looks like Colton and Gretchen are going to get their happy ending and then the next morning brings everything into a different light. Gretchen goes to her brother and makes a deal with the devil himself and then does what she does best....runs! Colton and the boys get together to figure out his next move and together they carry out their best grand gesture yet and then Colton finally gets his girl!
I just loved this Christmas Bromance story. Colton and Gretchen both had some demons in their past that they both needed to overcome and once they did these two found their happy ever after. I loved how they were opposites in so many ways. I adore this series....each book is better than the next! Give this one a try....you will not be disappointed.
I’ve been waiting for Colton’s book since I finished Vlad’s book last year! I just can’t get enough of these guys. I knew that Colton’s swagger and country music star confidence would make for an interesting hero. Sure enough, the way his arrogance actually doesn’t impress Gretchen was perfect. This is a great grumpy/sunshine story. I felt bad for Gretchen because of her horrible family, but the contrast of her family and Colton’s family and the Bromance guys (and their wives) really adds to the story. The book within the book that happens in each book of this series was pretty cool. I liked that it was in there just enough to have a parallel story, but not too much to take me out of the Colton/Gretchen story. I enjoyed Vlad’s humor, too. He’s such a sweet goofball. I felt like this book had lots of LOL moments. There are some interesting comparisons to A Christmas Carol and I like how self-aware the characters are to that. I absolutely loved this book. It got me in the Christmas spirit and it’s a fun romcom. Less Kay Adams is a great writer and I’m already waiting for the next book in The Bromance Bookclub series!
Thank you to Berkley Romance and NetGalley for the complimentary ARC and thanks to PRHAudio for the free audiobook.
One of my favorite lines comes from Malcolm, who always has wisdom for the guys. He says, “A well-wrapped present is an expression of love.” Yes! I take pride in how I wrap presents and I always have cute tags. Reading about a guy (or group of guys) who gets this, that’s why this series is so amazing.
I absolutely adore this series and this group of characters, and this latest book was just as delightful as its predecessors. It’s not my favorite of the series -- I wish we'd gotten to spend more time getting to know Gretchen and Colton (Gretchen especially), so that their relationship would feel a little more meaningful. But as the first Christmas themed romance in the series, this book still feels quite special.
As far as I’m concerned, you just can’t go wrong with this series. Fellow fans are going to gobble this one up because OBVIOUSLY, but I also think this latest book makes an excellent excuse for new readers to fall down the Bromance Book Club rabbit hole and binge all five in one go ahead of the holidays.
Gahhh, this book felt like coming home & I just LOVED it!
The Bromance series was one of the first traditionally published series I read once joining bookstagram last year. I was sucked in by the idea of men reading romance novels to improve in their relationships, but I kept coming back for dual POV, lighthearted humor, low angst & spice!
What I liked:
•The reveres grumpy / sunshine. I am such a sucker for this trope 🙌🏻 Gretchen is a total grinch - for completely understandable reasons, but Colton is able to see HER behind the mask she wears. Just as much as he accepted Gretchen for who she is, he pushed her to open herself up to him & the holidays. Their push & pull made for for some excellent sexual tension, too 😉
•Colton. Any man who can love and appreciate a grumpy woman is a winner in my book. From the humor he brought to his protective nature in regards to Gretchen & her family, I was sold. Book boyfriend material, for sure!
•The found family aspect. This friend group / book club is phenomenal & I’ve loved to watch it grow with each book in this series. They way they adopted Gretchen in completely melted my heart.
What I disliked:
•The ending felt a little rushed. Maybe I was just sad to see it end, but I wished we got a little MORE. More of Colton & Gretchen together. More of the friend group. More of the fall out with Gretchen’s family.
The latest entry in the Bromance Book Club follows country music star Colton, as he attempts to win over no-nonsense attorney Gretchen. The two had a one-night stand some months ago, but when Colton wanted more, Gretchen disappeared. Now with the help of his book club friends, Colton has a chance to woo the one who got away.
This was a sweet holiday romance. Like many reviewers have said, Colton is easy to love, but Gretchen takes a while to warm up. Her super wealthy family raised her in a very dispassionate way, so it's not surprising that she would resist any kind of relationship. But eventually I was rooting for both of them.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review. All opinions are my own.
Nothing says the day after Halloween like posting a holiday book…. But it’s time for the next installment of the Bromance series - A Very Merry Bromance. The boys are back and this time, Colton gets his own book. Colton and Gretchen are thrown back together as Colton tries to get his music career back on track and Gretchen tries to stand up for herself to her dysfunctional family. A second chance of love, taking place during the holidays. And of course, the whole cast of characters are back to support them, including the Cheeseman. This was like being back with a group of friends, full of inside jokes and comforting words. A perfect way to kick off the holiday books.
I have been a fan of the Bromance book club ever since the first one, and I’ve loved every book since! I was SO excited when I saw that there was a Christmas book about the country star, Colton Wheeler. I’m usually not a big fan of the grumpy and sunshine trope, but I really liked it in this book. Colton was so upbeat, even though he had some major stress going on in his professional life. I loved how passionate he was about Christmas and spreading the Christmas spirit. I also really liked Gretchen. She was strong and passionate about her work. I thought she and Colton were great for each other because they balanced each other out. I always like these books because they feature the other couples from the series in a believable way. I loved Colton’s friendship with the other guys in the book club, especially Vlad. The drama involving Gretchen’s family added a lot to the story and explained why she is the way she is. Overall, I really loved this book. It wasn’t too cheesy like most Christmas romances. It was just right!
It’s our favorite Bromance men but make it Christmas. What could be better? Colton Wheeler is our leading man this time around. He’s a country superstar and can probably get anyone he wants, until Gretchen Winthrop. A year after their perfect night together, he’s still wondering what went wrong. Gretchen is an immigration attorney with a toxic family. She’s also a bit of a Scrooge. Will some Christmas magic bring these two back together?
This book is everything we love about this series with subtle touches of Christmas. A holiday party, some Christmas tree decorating, and even a Christmas book within a book. As always, I love how they openly poke fun at romance tropes and acknowledge their own tropes.
Here’s what you can expect:
☀️ sunshine and grump
🔥 banter and tension
💁♂️ plenty of our favorite men
👨👩👧👦 found family
This was a wonderful addition to the series so make sure you pick it up this holiday season.
Getting a prequel bromance story has been the ultimate gift for me.
Colton! We finally get your story. As per usual Lyssa Kay Adams is the queen of romance and romance tropes. I always end up swooned off of my feet and cry the good tears.
Colton has a heart of gold and his story had me fully invested in his outcome.
I love this series so much! Its one of the few series I have been up to date with and this book is the perfect Christmas miracle for the heart.
The Bromance boys are back and this time they are blessing us with a Christmas story!! I really loved learning more about Colton and I especially adored the focus on “found family”.
What to expect:
•Grumpy/Sunshine
•Christmas traditions
•Celebrity romance
•Second chance(ish)
•Bromance shenanigans/humor
•Found family
If you’ve enjoyed this series, I guarantee you’ll enjoy this one too! My only issue is the third POV - I’m always wishing for the first person connection.
I’ve enjoyed this series, but the last couple of books have been good but not great. A Very Merry Bromance has exceeded my expectations and is very close to being my favorite to date. It’s all due to the depth of the main characters. On the outside Colton seems like an aw shucks country charmer, but his family means everything to him and the reason he’s successful is because he wants to be the support they need to live full lives. What a great guy! Gretchen too has reasons for being a distrustful grump. She comes from one of the wealthiest families in Tennessee but her parents ignored her when she was younger and her brothers are selfish bullies. She has rejected everything that they stand for and serves a mission to help immigrants stay with their families, fighting deportation. Yep, there’s a lot more to these two than is noted on the cover of this book!
I will admit that one of my favorite romance tropes is a woman in jeopardy, when it’s done well, anyway. Gretchen isn’t really in jeopardy, but she definitely needs saving. This is a woman who has never had someone fight for her and love her despite her differences. Colton is that man who will fight on behalf of her and by her side. Once the plot got moving these two gave me all the emotions and I was rooting for that happy ending I knew was coming. I must give a shoutout to Gretchen’s Uncle Jack. He was the only redeeming sole in her family and despite not having the power to save her, did love her with all of his heart and you could feel that love leap off the pages. He was a sweetie!
Like I said above, this book has jumped to my #1 spot in this series, which kind of surprised me, truthfully! I think it was the dichotomy of Colton always being so suave and giving all the romantic advise to the other bro’s in the book club. The fact that he floundered and his chosen one was a troubled woman just hit my heart and made me melt. This book was the perfect Christmas feel good story, with a little family drama to rev up the tension. It’s a quick read, so if you have a weekend and would like an good solid story and a sweet romance, this is the one! Cheesy title and all. I loved it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review and it was honest.
A very cute (and merry) grumpy-sunshine romance that left me with a smile on my face and my heart feeling altogether jolly.
Look, I am an absolute sucker for a Christmas romance, especially when one party does not like Christmas at all and the other is basically tinsel personified. And that’s what you get here with A Very Merry Bromance. It’s a cute, fun story, with characters that are likable, if at times a little frustrating (*cough Gretchen cough*), and plenty of swoon.
Colton is the absolute winner here. Whether he’s fretting over his career, trying to win Gretchen’s heart, choking back Bud because it’s what’s been put in front of him, or proving time and again he’s one of the good ones, he is just so damn perfect that I’m 100% asking for him for Chrissie this year. (Actually, I wonder if I can order one of each of the men in the Bromance Book Club?!)
It’s just . . . I love this series so much. It was delightful to be back with the guys as they navigate Colton’s HEA, and the scenes in which they’re all together—wrapping gifts, giving advice, knocking some sense into Colton—were the easily the best. Because as much as I loved reading A Very Merry Bromance, I have to admit that it lacked a little something. Certainly, it left me with a couple of unanswered questions (what was on that paper?) and feeling like the story-within-the-story was incomplete.
But then again, it also left me with a big ol’ smile on my face and my heart feeling light and happy and altogether like Christmas romance season is the real season to be jolly, so if you’re on the fence, I’d definitely recommend adding this one to your Christmas list.
This was very cute. If you can buy the premise that a group of guys have bonded over reading romance novels as a guide to life and romance, then you’ll enjoy the exchanges among Adams’ characters. They’re just a hoot and the best part of this series.
Add in a country super star who’s fallen for an idealistic immigration lawyer who also happens to be a member of a famous whiskey-brewing family who are also cold and manipulative. It’s a fun mix to read while pulling for the good guys against the evil older brother.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
A Very Merry Bromance is my new favorite in the Bromance series! The story features an opposites attract second chance romance between country singer Colton Wheeler and Gretchen Winthrop, an immigration lawyer.
I liked the grumpy/sunshine trope and seeing characters from previous books. There was lots of Christmas fun plus steam and family drama. The banter is always on point in these books and I loved it! I highly recommend adding this to your holiday TBR. Thank you to the publisher for my e-copy of this book.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I have grown accustomed to a new Bromance romance each year, and this year’s release was a double delight for me. Not only did I get to enjoy the hilarity and chaos of these men, but it was set during the holidays. Gretchen and Colton’s dates laced with holiday traditions were some of my favorite moments in this book. The book-within-the-book was a sweet, fun, Hallmarkish grumpy-sunshine romance, and it was fun to watch Gretchen catch on. There were also many nods to A Christmas Carol which fit perfectly in this story. And THIS time, the “manual”, aka romance book, was given to the heroine.
Colton was such a sweetheart, and I love that he fell for this intelligent and driven woman, but it was Gretchen who evolved the most. When people say money can’t buy happiness, they were talking about Gretchen’s family. They were miserable! It was beautiful when Colton and the Bromance family welcomed her to the fold. Sweet and fun, I was left with a big smile on my face and toasty warm heart.
I am always always here for a grumpy/sunshine romance and Gretchen and Colton's story hit the spot. This was a fun and sweet Christmasy romance that kept a smile on my face.
Colton is a famous country singer and Gretchen is a non-profit immigration attorney. They meet/get together at a wedding of one of the Bromance heroes and this story takes place a year after that meeting. Colton has had it bad for Gretchen ever since that night, but she wants nothing to do with him. She also doesn't like Christmas. Colton plans to change her mind about both things.
I seriously couldn't have loved Colton more. I love a good sunshiny cinnamon roll hero and he was pretty great. Gretchen... it took me sometime, but she also grew on me. She has a big heart deep down and a lot of family hurt/trauma that makes her the way she is. I adored this couple together. This was a feel good romance that could be read anytime of the year, but will be especially great to read around the holidays!
This is a new favorite. Lyssa Kay Adams books just feel like home. I loved the setting and seeing all our old friends. So good.
