I am a huge fan of Sara Richardson's books, so I was excited to dive into this first book in her newest series!
Kyra has been estranged from her father ever since he left after having an affair with her best friends mom. She is surprised when he dies and leaves her the small country town of Star Valley. Her plan is simple, fulfill the conditions of his will and then sell the town. Aiden is the first person she meets there and he's determined to keep her from selling.
I really liked the development of the relationship between Kyra and Aiden. Things are complicated as they start on opposite sides, but slowly find common ground. They were both interesting and relatable characters.
Sara's writing and storytelling always keep me glued to the page, and this book was no exception. I loved getting to know this town and its inhabitants. I am looking forward to reading more books set in Star Valley.
When her estranged father died, he left the heroine a huge inheritance that came with stipulations. The heroine has dreams to go to London, England, to start a new life. Instead, she ends up at the small town in Wyoming that her father left her and she meets the hero along the way. The hero wants her to stay and love the small town, because there are dire consequences if the heroine sells the place. He didn't expect to fall in love with the heroine as he interacts with her in a plan to save the town.
This is the first book in the Star Valley series. It features a heroine who closes herself off after her father left her and a hero who is struggling with his own personal demons after his brother-in-law died in the battlefield. There were some wonderful supportive secondary characters in the story, which definitely helped the heroine open up to others and showed how the hero has a caring side to him as he interacted with his nieces. I liked the story vibe of the book but do feel that there are some more details needed in some parts of the story to make it better in my eyes. I also have some deep feelings about the heroine's parents, but glad that the heroine didn't let their actions make her closed off from others. Overall, it's still an enjoyable book and I look forward to reading more books in the Star Valley series in the future.
**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions and thought in the review are my own.**
Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is the first in what I hope will be a long running Star Valley Series by Sara Richardson. It is all together a wonderful romance extended family and Christmas story. There is not a character who I didn’t like. Except maybe I wouldn’t want stranger coming into where I was staying while I was still asleep. Though delivering breakfast was a good thing to do.
Kyra Fowler has had a difficult life after her father and mother divorced. It was easy to sympathize with her but also to respect how she was willing to change how she thought of her father when the truth was exposed. Ex-Navy SEAL Aiden Steele was also admirable in taking care of family too. Not sure I approved of his original plan though.
This sweet story of forgiveness, finding family, forgiving other and yourself, and being open to love is a splendid Christmas story just right for anytime of the year. Recommend to all romance readers and especially those who enjoy cowboy romance.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really liked this book. It was perfect with its sexy, wonderful characters, a cute rescue dog, and a beautiful story of romance and angst.
I liked how the book grabbed my attention immediately with Kate camping during a thunderstorm and being afraid because she was very much a city girl. I felt the characters were very realistic, especially Jaden, and all that he had been through.
The town of Topaz Falls, with its fun characters and cute shops added to the story and sounded like a fun place to live. I liked how the town welcomed and embraced both Kate and Jaden. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
3.75stars--WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY is the first instalment in Sara Richardson’s contemporary, adult STAR VALLEY romance series. This is former US Navy SEAL Aiden Steele, and pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY follows in the aftermath of the death of Kyra Fowler’s estranged father. Kenneth Fowler had walked away from his wife and daughter years before leaving a heart broken Kyra to struggle in the after math. Fast forward to present day wherein, Kenneth Fowler has passed away, leaving the small town of Star Valley Springs in the hands of our story line heroine. Kyra has no plans to keep or live in Star Valley but the people have a plan of their own. Enter business owner/rancher/ former US Navy SEAL Aiden Steele, the man with whom Kyra will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Kyra and Aiden, and the fall-out as the people of Star Valley set a plan into motion to persuade Kyra Fowler to become one of their own.
Kyra Fowler has struggled in the years since her father walked away but Kyra never knew the truth about what happened and why. With her arrival in Star Valley secrets will reveal a different story than the one she was told, a story that leaves our heroine wondering where everything went wrong. Meeting Aiden Steele made Kyra reconsider her hopes for the future, a future that would have pulled Kyra around the world.
The relationship between Kyra and Aiden is one of immediate attraction but Kyra has no plans to stay in Star Valley, and Aiden is hoping to prevent the sale of the small town he has grown to love. A slow seduction of our story line heroine ends badly when Kyra discovers everything has been a ruse to convince her to stay. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.
We are introduced to several townsfolk as well as family and friends of our story line couple: Aiden’s sister Tess, and her daughters Willow and Morgan; his best friends and former teammates Silas and Thatch, as well as Kyra’s best friend Lyric.
WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY reads like a Hallmark™ Christmas movie with all the sugar and sweetness of romance and love. The premise is entertaining, enjoyable and heartwarming; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, determined and real.

Thank you to Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book. This is the first book in a new series for Ms. Richardson and I am looking forward to more. What a lovely town Star Valley is with so many caring people. So many veterens suffer from PTSD for a variety of reasons and I was happy to see that the author addressed this issue and followed it through to counselling for the person suffering. I felt sorry for the main character who found out that her father loved her all along but was unable to have a complete reunion as her father was gone. I did love the way the childhood friends were able to reignite their friendship and it was as strong as ever. This is a great story and I am looking forward to reading about more characters in Star Valley soon.
Kyra Fowler is a successful nurse who recently graduated and is trying to move to London to take her dream job when her estranged father leaves her a town in his will. A she town in the middle of nowhere Wyoming. A small beautiful town. And with it comes her childhood best friend and step sister Lyric whom she hasn't seen since she was ten. As Kyra tries to figure out why her father leaves her a town after leaving her all those years ago without much communication she also finds herself immersed in the town's people's lives.
Aiden Steele is a non-active Navy Seal and owner of the only construction crew in Star Valley. He finds himself rescuing gorgeous Kyra Fowler when her car is unsafe to drive to Star Valley. He also finds out that she is the the new town owner. Can he and the town convince her to keep the town instead of selling?
Read Sara Richardson's sweet and sensual story of small town romance and second chances on life and love to find out what happens to Star Valley, Kyra and Aiden. The adventure that the wonderful characters which Ms. Richardson has created is quite fun and a bit wild, but we'll worth the read (and the ride). This is the Christmas Story of the season and not to be missed!!
Fun start to a new series. Kyra Fowler is a pediatric nurse practitioner who just inherited a small town, Star Valley Wyoming, from her estranged father. As part of the will, she needs to move there and finish up specific projects before she can sell it and move to her dream job in London. Aiden Steele is an ex Navy SEAL who has come back to work on the ranch to take care of his widowed sister and her two daughters. Her husband Jace was Aiden’s best friend and died when they were in combat together. Aiden has some serious guilt issues and Kyra has some serious parental issues she has to work out. Throw on top of those issues that the citizens of Star Valley don’t want Kyra to sell to an evil developer (aren’t they all evil in small town romance novels?), so they start Operation Star Valley to get Kyra to fall in love with the town. The town is charming, the townsfolk are delightful and I really loved both Aiden and Kyra. Why a four star rather than five? I felt like the author was so busy introducing all the future characters and getting to know the town, that the romance got pushed aside. The first half of the book, Aiden and Kyra were ignoring each other, I would have loved to see them interact more. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and cannot wait for future stories in this series. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the author for my honest review.
Aiden can be my cowboy any day! A former Navy SEAL, he lives in a tucked away valley in Wyoming with his widowed sister and her daughters. Aiden feels guilty for the death of her husband in a mission and now the town might be sold because of the new owner, Kyra.
Kyra has her own demons to contend but she wants to lost eWyoming for London. But London doesn’t have former SEAL hottie cowboy Aiden. Will Kyra trade the lights of London for the wilds of Wyoming?
Cowboys are my weak spot and Aiden can cowboy for me any time,
As someone who spent a large part of their childhood in the open valleys and small towns of Wyoming, this was an absolute DELIGHT to read. Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy was romantic, charming with an incredible cast of characters and the perfect amount of Christmas charm.
Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is set to be published October 11, 2022. Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing), NetGalley, and the author for the ARC.
Great book to start the new series. Kyra was estranged from her father since her parents divorced when she was ten. Now he's left her a whole town in his will, upon his death. Before she arrives, she's made up her mind to follow the terms of the will which requires her to make certain repairs before selling.
In the meantime she reconnects with her childhood best friend, meets some characters in the town that she grows fond of, and a new love interest . Her future dreams change and she realizes that the town has a lot to offer.
When she realizes the townsfolk made a pact to woo her and keep her from selling, she thinks the feelings aren't genuine . Can she stay if she thinks it was all an act? An accident changes her outlook but is it worth it in the end?
Loved this story and can't wait for the next book in the series.
My favorite holiday is Christmas so I'll take a book set in that season any day! Kyra Fowler inherited a town from her estranged father. Her goal is to set everything in order to sell by Christmas. She has her eyes on working in London so sticking around Star Valley Springs, Wyoming isn't in the cards. As she begins the arduous task of sorting through her father's things, she meets the townspeople and learns about how well-loved he was. Not only that she begins to see how this small town is about family, blood related or not. Aiden Steele is the consummate small town dweller. He's all about that close-knit life and doing things on his own timeline, not some city slicker's sped up pace. Kyra makes a lot of discoveries, not only about her father, but also about herself. Along the way she learns how to love the town and its people, not to mention Aiden and herself. Turns out Star Valley Springs is exactly where she is meant to be. I love the spirit of closeness and togetherness that is evident throughout the book, the meddling neighbors who make everything their business, and the way they all band together. It got me in the spirit of Christmas for sure!
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
Thank you NetGalley, Sara Richardson and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy. This is my personal review.
This is the first book in the Star Valley series. The first thing that caught my eye was the cover of the book.
The next thing I really liked was the location of the story. Small town in Wyoming cowboy romance at Christmas time makes for a book that I devoured in a very short time.
Aiden and Kyra fit together so perfectly that I couldn’t help but like them both. They each had a back story and to read what it was and how they were each able to move on in their lives and get to grow in their relationship was great.
This is one book you will want to get and grab a cup of coffee and a cozy blanket. The time you are reading will be time well spent.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
There is a lot more going on in this story than one might glimpse from the synopsis. The protagonists are both trying to move on from things that happened in their past. The characters are well-developed and likeable as are the other members of the Star Valley community.
Kyra’s father has recently passed, leaving Kyra Star Valley the town he settled in once he divorced Kyra’s mother. When Kyra was a young teen, her father left her mother for her best friend’s mother and moved to Star Valley. In one blow, she’d lost both her father and her best friend.
Aiden’s story is one of PTSD and survivor’s guilt following the death of his brother-in-law who was part of his Navy Seal squad in Afghanistan. He and two of his squad-mates are determined to make the lives of Aiden’s sister and her two daughters as best as they can to make up for their loss.
Kyra’s father had a list of things he wanted her to complete before she decides to sell the town. As the only contractor in town, Aiden’s company accepts the job. The threat of Kyra selling to a big developer and ruining the charm of the small town has Aiden’s company moving very slowly in completing the work in hopes of having Kyra fall in love with the community and decide to stay.
I enjoyed the romance that begins between Kyra and Aiden and the way they support one another while coping with their losses. Aiden’s two nieces are absolutely charming and I enjoyed reading about them. There is a suggestion of a romance that may occur in the future and I’m really hoping that this couple will be featured in the next book in the series.
I recommend this book to those readers who enjoy romance stories set in small towns.
I received an early copy of this book but the thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.
Kyra and Aiden’s story is a charming, poignant and heartwarming romance, which also highlights family connections and small town dynamics. When they meet, both have wounded hearts that are not open to even the possibility of love. Kyra has deep seated abandonment issues, and even the fact that her estranged father left her a sizeable inheritance does not lessen the pain from being left behind when he divorced her mother and made a new life in Wyoming with a new family. She intends to visit the town she inherited, make the repairs her father stipulated and then sell it to developers. The money from the sale will pay off her debts and help fund her the new life she hopes to have in London. She never expected to fall in love with the town, it’s citizens or the tall, dreamy ex-SEAL cowboy, Aiden.
Aiden and his buddies, who are also ex-SEALS, are now working together to help keep his sister’s ranch going after the death of her husband and their friend/teammate. Aiden is struggling with PTSD and survivor’s guilt. If the town is sold to developers his sister could lose the ranch and many of the townspeople could lose the businesses and homes. He comes up with a plan to help Kyra fall so in love with the town that she will want to stay or at least she won’t sell it. His construction company is the only one in town, so he also intends to delay the repairs Kyra needs to get done before she can sell. The townspeople are more than happy to help, but really they love to welcome anyone to their town and would have showered Kyra in kindness and warmth anyway. Aiden finds himself wanting to spend more time with the pretty nurse practitioner. He also can’t help but want to comfort her when sorting through things in her father’s home reveals some secrets about both of her parents that only sharpens the pain in her heart. As their story unfolds, the emotional burdens Aiden and Kyra carry are revealed, their growing connection sparks deeper feelings, and Kyra is faced with some big decisions. Aiden’s sudden about face or retreat sends everything between them into jeopardy. Will they have a happily ever after or more heartbreak?
The wonderful characters and engaging storyline make this book memorable and enjoyable. I definitely want to read more books by this author. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy in the first novel in Sara Richardson's Star Valley series, and what a sweet, sometimes sad, and lovely Christmas novel this is. It gets 5 stars from this reader.
Told in dual narration, a device I love, this is the story of Kyra Fowler and Aidan Steele. Kyra is a pediatric nurse practitioner, hoping to fulfill her dream of being hired for a nursing job and moving to London, when she gets word of her estranged father's death, and learns that she's mentioned in his will. She hasn't seen or heard from her father in the 18 years since he abandoned her and her mother and ran off with the mother of Kyra's best friend, Lyric, leaving Kyra and her mother heartbroken, especially Kyra, since not only did she lose her father, Kenneth Fowler, she lost her best friend too. His abandonment has led to her not forming any lasting relationships with anyone since.
It turns out that Kyra's absentee father left her the entire town, with conditions. She can't sell the town to a developer until she makes necessary repairs to several buildings in town, which she plans to do as soon as possible so she can hopefully take the job in London that she's hoping to get. When the townspeople get wind of the contents of the will, they hatch a plan to do everything possible to make Kyra fall in love with the town and it's residents, so that she'll decide to stay rather than sell. They want to keep their little town free of the commercialism that took over nearby Jackson, Wyoming, and forced many of the small local businesses out. It's a plan that goes into motion almost as soon as Aiden, who helped Kyra find her way to town, drops her off at her father's house, and she learns that the ladies in town have already cleaned the place, stocked it with food and beverages, and then they show up, uninvited, in her kitchen, the very next morning to make her breakfast.
These ladies are a force to be reckoned with, as is her long-lost friend, Lyric, who is still in town, teaching yoga. And as if that isn't enough, she's shocked to learn that the father who abandoned her and her mother so coldly, is well-loved by all the townspeople, who can't help telling her about all the wonderful things he did for the town, and what a wonderful, kindhearted man he was--to say that Kyra has a hard time accepting this praise of the man who abandoned her is putting it mildly.
Also a force to be reckoned with is gorgeous, former Navy SEAL, Aidan, as the two are instantly attracted to one another, and also, Tess, the wife of Aidan's late best friend and former SEAL teammate, Jace, and their two adorable little daughters, Morgan and Willow. Aidan has PTSD and survivor guilt, blaming himself for his best friend's death on their last mission, and he has been acting as a stand-in dad for Jace's daughters, moving to Jace's ranch and taking on the running of it, as well as running his construction business, a business he shares with two other former SEAL teammates, who, like Aidan, left the SEALs after their last failed mission.
To tell you more about the budding relationship between Aidan and Kyra, and her on again/off again plan to take the job in London and sell the town to developers to finance it, would spoil this heartwarming and heartbreaking novel for you, so I'll just add that I'd be shocked if you didn't fall in love with this charming little town and its cast of characters the same way I did, and if this novel doesn't leave you with a touch of Christmas magic, I don't know what will. It was an excellent read and I'm happy to recommend it.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.
I knew almost immediately after startingWishong on A Christmas Cowboy I would love Aidan and Kyra.
Skeptical but unable to turn down the offer of a lifetime Kyra Fowler heads to the nowhere town of Star Valley Springs, Wyoming which is coincidentally also her inheritance. When her seemingly non-existent father leaves her an entire town she’s shocked but even more so when she finds out she can’t sell it until she makes certain improvements. Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is full of surprises Kyra didn’t see coming, like mementos her father purchased for her, letters and feelings for Aiden.
Aiden loves his tiny town, respected Kenny Fowler and cannot believe he left Star Valley Springs to her. Aiden was completely unprepared for the conflicting emotions he’d feel regarding not just Kyra, but his hometown, his family and life itself.
Watching Aiden and Kyra learn to love each other, Star Valley Springs, their lives and more was an absolute treasure. This book had it all, Christmas magic, family, romance and a little spice with the perfect amount of small town feel.
Thank you to Forever publishing & NetGalley for the eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so good! I love a good small-town romance with great characters and beautiful scenery and this book didn't disappoint. It has just the right amount of drama to keep you turning the pages. I really enjoyed this book.
I received a complimentary copy from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is the first book in Sara Richardson's new Star Valley series. There are something about Richardson's books that always draw me in and this one was no different!
Kyra Fowler is a pediatric nurse practitioner and she ends up in Star Valley when her estranged father leaves her the small town in Wyoming. She hasn't had contact with her father since she was a young child and he left to build a new family with Kyra's best friend's mother, the woman he left her mother for. She wants nothing to do with the town and has plans to come, check it out and then put it up for sale.
Aiden Steele is a former Navy Seal who calls Star Valley home, along with two of his Seal buddies and his sister and two nieces. Aiden and his friends own the construction business in town. He's struggling with PTSD from the death of his best friend, and brother-in-law, and now he spends most of his time taking care of his sister and his nieces. He feels like that is what he should do since his friend is no longer there to do it himself.
When Kyra meets Aiden, there are sparks, but the most important thing for Aiden and the town, is to try to make sure Kyra doesn't sell to the developers. Will the plan they concoct end up being more detrimental in the end than helpful?
I enjoyed this read and I'm excited to see what else Star Valley has to offer us in upcoming books!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**
I haven't read a good cowboy book in ages and this was JUST what I needed. It was the right feel of Hallmark-y and a little heat that kept me cruising through the book. I was unsure if I would settle in with Kyra's struggles with her family and the little bit of a chip on her shoulder, but watching her settle into her dad's house and his small town was so sweet. I loved her relationship with Aiden and how they grew through his personal issues as well. If you like cowboys and hallmark christmas, you are going to want to grab this book!
