Set in the Victorian period during the Carlist Wars of Spain. Hazel Thornton travels to visit her father, a general, but plans get cancelled and she has to go back to London. On the way back, an explosion wrecks their train while passing through Spain. Her traveling companion Miss Westbrook is injured as well as Captain Bryant who is left unconscious.
Dr. Jim Jackson and his team arrive hours later at the site. He is upset that Hazel has been treating the victims. Doesn’t she know it can make the situation worse if not properly treated. What he doesn’t know is that Hazel has had some nurse training but due to her panic attacks she gets while in tight spaces, she dropped out. They are all taken to The Red Cross international hospital and Hazel plans to help out while her friends recover much to the objections of Dr Jim Jackson.
I enjoyed this book a lot. My first read by Jennifer Moore. I will be reading more. I loved how Hazel gains confidence in her abilities. I love Dr Jackson and Hazels relationship as it develops. I loved Miss Westbrook, she was great and funny! Also it was fun learning about a piecemeal of history I never knew about, The Carlist Wars. Overall great story and very clean. Definitely recommend!

This was such a sweet book. I loved how Hazel was such a complex and strong character. It was a great love story set in the background of the Spanish civil war. If you love to read historical romances, you will love this book.

I love how unique this story line and setting are. Healing Hazel is refreshing and is very hard to put down from the very beginning. I love how strong Hazel is and how she seems to never give up, even when things seem impossible.

This book took me longer than expected to get through. It is a short read, it was just hard to keep interested. The pacing felt a bit off, but besides that I don't know that I disliked anything, I just didn't find it very engaging. I did like that the author seemed to put research into that historical period for the book. Also, while the Blue Orchid Society isn't a huge aspect of the book, I love that this group of strong women come together and support and lift each other up 3.5 stars, rounded to 4.

Healing Hazel is a wonderful book in the Blue Orchid Society series, and is my favorite so far! Hazel is part of a group of friends that call themselves the Blue Orchid Society. Hazel has been training as a nurse in London, but her anxiety attacks prevent her from completing her schooling. She is heading to the Canary Islands, with her companion, to meet and spend time with her father during the Christmas holidays. Once the train arrives in Cadiz, Spain her trip is interrupted by a series of events. Hazel has to put her limited training, as a nurse, to work. Hazel deals with many problems, difficult circumstances, and her own issues with anxiety. This lovely story teaches her how strong she is in both body and spirit. The ending is brilliant and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It can be read in the series or as a standalone novel.

I love the sisterhood and friendships of the Blue Orchid Society. I loved how Hazel learned how to deal with her panic attacks and overcome her fears to become a nurse. I loved the growth of her character and her self esteem. I really liked Dr. Jim as well and that he gave her confidence in her abilities. This is a wonderful sweet romance with depth.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book. But first a disclaimer, I have not yet read the first two books in the series but it did not affect me understanding and enjoying this one. Healing Hazel is the third book in Jennifer Moore’s The Blue Orchid Society.
Hazel was so sweet. She wanted to make her friends proud and she was trying to reach for her dreams of becoming a nurse, but she never felt able. However when a trip to Spain takes a dangerous turn, she finds herself in the midst of the war helping to care for the sick and injured. Dr. Jim Jackson just wanted to care for his patients and do some good in the world. He did not want to deal with a woman who thought herself a nurse. But as he spent time with Hazel, he began to see her in a different light.
I really loved reading about Hazel. She had a quiet strength. She truly cared for those she was trying to help and she didn’t allow her own struggles to keep her from reaching out. It was cool to read about Hazel overcoming her fears and learning to stand up for herself. She learned to be strong in her own way.
Jim was another wonderful character to read about. He comes off as harsh and a little gruff but he had a kind heart. He truly did care for the patients brought to him and he wanted to help as many as he could. However Jim had to learn to let go of the past and look to the future. He had to see that there was a life to live.
Hazel and Jim had a sweet romance, it grew out of respect. They did not always see eye to eye, but they learned to trust each other as they worked together to save lives. It was cool to read about them from each other’s eyes and to watch them fall in love. It was a gradual thing but no less sweet.
The plot and storyline were very interesting. Hazel had to figure out how to make herself useful as she waited for her companions to heal, while Jim was trying to keep his hospital up and running. I was intrigued by the story from the beginning and I could not put it down. There was excitement and romance, it was the perfect book!
I adored this book and I would totally recommend it! Healing Hazel is a wonderful book and I now need to read the other two books. Healing Hazel is a clean historical romance book.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

"Healing Hazel" is a romance set in 1873 in Spain. Jim lost his brother in the American Civil War and now works for the Red Cross in Spain. When he comes upon a well-dressed Hazel at the site of a train wreck, he misjudges her. However, she's had some nursing training and proves her usefulness. Jim pushes his team to take their medical help closer to the fighting in hopes of saving even more civilians and fighters. If only he'd been able to save his brother... But he ends up putting Hazel and his team in danger.

After the initial misjudgment, Jim respected Hazel, allowed her to work as a nurse, and took the time to teach her further skills. Hazel panicked when in crowded, confined spaces, so she struggled to overcome this so she could help others. They grew to care about each other. There was some suspense due to the danger they were sometimes in and the pressures of trying to save lives. Historical details about medical procedures, the war, and such were woven into the story. While blood and surgery were mentioned, any "gore" was not really graphically described. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this novel to fans of historical romance.

All Hazel has ever wanted it to be a nurse. However, with her debilitating panic attacks, that future seems out of reach and watching her best friends achieve their goals and dreams doesn't help. When the opportunity to be with her father for Christmas presents itself, she gets on a train traveling through Spain. However, the civil war erupts around her, the train derails, and she finds herself to be the only person with the ability to help others. Using some the the skills she learned in nursing school before she had to leave due to her panic attacks, she does what little she can to helps the survivors. When American doctor, Jim Jackson, arrives on the scene, and takes the patients back to the hospital, he reluctantly allows Hazel to stay and work as a nurse. Hazel has finally found her dreams, but it can not last forever, at some point she must return home, leaving behind the job and man she loves.

I throughly enjoyed this story and would highly recommend it to others!

This is a slow moving love story or coming of age story. She is trying to find her way in the world and overcoming issues from the war she was in. She wants so badly to be a nurse and is given the opportunity threw a series of events. I really love Moore's well done writing. This book just didn't appeal as much to me as others of hers have. I think I missed the mystery. I also wanted a bit more from the leading man. Overall it was a good read. I look forward to more of this Society of ladies:}
Clean romance. Some kisses. No religion.

HEALING HAZEL by JENNIFER MOORE is the third novel in The Blue Orchid Society series, but it can easily stand alone.
As Hazel Thornton says goodbye to her friends in the Blue Orchid Society and sets off with her friend and teacher Nella Westbrook to spend Christmas in the Canary Islands with her major general father, she has no idea of the adventure that awaits her. It is 1873 and she finds herself in Basque country in the middle of the war between the Carlists and the Spanish after the train she is travelling on is derailed due to an explosion. Although she is prone to panic attacks caused by an experience she had as a child, she sees the injured and dying people around her, and, in spite of the language barrier, sets to work doing what she can to help. Her main ambition is to qualify as a nurse, however she failed her qualifying exam in London due to an attack. She is especially afraid of dark small spaces.
I like to see her passion for healing, her compassion and strength, and her determination to make a difference as a nurse at the International Red Cross hospital.
Another person with a passion for healing is Dr Jim Jackson. He is led by his experiences as a medic in the American war, and feels he has to atone for his brother’s death at Gettysburg……
I really loved Healing Hazel for the depth shown by the characters and found the story exciting and inspirational. I cannot recommend the book strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Covenant Communications. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

I love the strength of the women in this book. They are so supportive of each other and only want the best for each other. I'm only sorry that we don't get to spend much time with them as a group since most of this book takes place with Hazel in Spain, away from her friends.

Hazel is a strong and determined woman despite her crippling anxiety. She works hard to keep control of her anxiety as well as fill the deficit in her learning as a nurse, learn a new language, keep her humanity in a difficult situation and help all those around her.

Dr. Jim is pretty gruff initially so it is hard to love him from the start but as he sees the error in the assumptions he made about Hazel, he becomes a friend and mentor to her as their relationship blossoms into something more. And then he is caring and wonderful with her.

This was an enjoyable book

This is the third book in the Blue Orchid Society series. This is my favorite book in this series. A trip to visit Hazel's father for Christmas, is canceled, due to her father's duties as a General. The ride home on the train to London, comes to a screeching halt, when an explosion causes the train to derail. Hazel spends her time in Spain, at the red cross taking care of the injured, while her friend continues to heal, from a broken ankle, due to the train derailment. Hazel, who is studying to be a nurse, puts her skills to use. Hazel also finds herself, falling for a young doctor on staff, but feels that it is one sided. I enjoyed reading about this time period.

This is such a good series of books, this Blue Orchid Society books. Each book focuses on a woman who wants to improve and find her path.
Hazel is one of these women. She struggles with claustrophobia from a childhood trauma. It has truly been a controlling factor in her life and she has had to stall her dreams. Little did she know her Christmas plans would change that for her.
It was great to see her grow, to face her fears, to accomplish her dreams, and to find a love interest on the way. Hazel learned how to be strong, just as we all need to do. Facing fears is hard, I love Hazel's good example.

Jennifer Moore's third installment from her The Blue Orchid Society series, Healing Hazel, was my favorite of the series. Four and a half stars.

I think this one is my fave in the series so far.

I really liked the theme, the setting, and the time period. Most of the story takes place in Spain near the Basque country, which was unexpected and welcome. I didn't know about the Carlist wars and that was very interesting to read about.

After an explosion on the train she's traveling in with her companions, Hazel is stuck at the hospital while they get better. She wants to put her training to use but one of the doctors resists at first.

Hazel and Jim come from very different backgrounds and his first impression of her is not a favorable one, but the more he gets to know her, the more he recognizes how wrong he was.

I also liked the appearance of the other girls and how they're good friends to one another.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
