Jen weaves in the emotions of the arranged marriage, and the for love or country tropes really well. you can feel the pull each creates in a very personal way for each character.
The uniqueness of her characters also strengthen the story. I loved Rhi and Marc’s frank conversations, they seemed like such natural byproduct for their personalities.
Each of the Wilhelm brothers are being well developed and the little hints we’re getting into them is engraining the reader in their world with each book. The series is just getting better and better.
I loved the pacing and not just the way she used the tension as part of the plot, but the way she used in in the relationship was nothing short of swoony.
I was happy for another story set in this world of Jen Geigle Johnson's. The princes of Oldenburg and the women who love them have each had a wonderful story to love. This one, with Rhianna and Marc, is no exception. A betrothal to a stranger is always a shaky beginning for a marriage, but Rhi and Marc work together to find what is best for each of them, even if that may not be each other.
This book wasn’t what I was expecting and I loved it! It wasn’t the typical arranged marriage. I enjoyed the characters even if there were times I wanted to smack Marc upside the head for being difficult.
I especially loved all the parts with the brothers. They were just fun!
I like the flow of the writing and the story worked for me. I’m excited to read the other books in the series!
Sweet historical romance between a strong willed woman from Wales and a prince from Oldenberg. Rhi and Marc definitely started out on the wrong foot when they find out that their fathers had arranged a marriage between them and they quickly decide to go against their fathers wishes and make their own match. The problem is as Marc tries to help Rhi find her match he struggles to let go and realizes he has developed feelings for her. Marc lives a dangerous life and doesn’t want to bring anyone into it. Rhi is not the type to sit idly by while others are mistreated or in danger. What will it take to make Marc realize she is the perfect match for him?
Thank you for the advance reader copy of this novel. This was a historical fiction in Wales mining country with an arranged marriage. The author crafted a sweet and clean romance. A lovely weekend read!
I have been a huge fan of this series ever since the first book. This series has some of the most gorgeous covers I've seen. The King and Queen of Oldenburg have eight very handsome and accomplished sons. In book three we finally get Prince Marc's story. He is loyal to his King and country to an overwhelming extent. His duty over the security of the country is number one in his life.
Rhianna Davies's life has just been turned upside down at the death of her father. Her ruthless uncle kicks her out of her home and the lives of the people who have worked her father's mine. One day a prince shows up at her door to save her and her beloved servants. Prince Marc has also been sent to marry Rhianna. Neither one of them are thrilled to be told to marry someone they don't know and love. This is when the story takes off.
This novel is one with a slow-build romance, political intrigue involving Napoleon, Rhianna still fighting for her people in Wales, and Prince Marc trying to carry the world on his shoulders. I loved how bold, strong, and dedicated Rhianna was to those who surrounded her. Prince Marc was so conflicted about Rhi that his brothers needed to "convince" him that she was as wonderful as he already knew she was. The brothers are a lot of fun and so different. It's so great that there will be a book for each Oldenburg Prince.
Even though this book can be read as a stand-alone, don't do that to yourself. Get your hands on the first two books and read them first. Trust me on this, and you will get an even richer experience while reading A Tenuous Betrothal.
After losing her parents, Rhi has to deal with her uncle banishment and poor treatment of her beloved servants. Fortunately, her father had made a deal with the king of Oldenburg to marry her daughter to one of her son. For that, he enlists Prince Marc, who promptly goes to England. Though they both hit off quite fast, neither wants to marry a stranger and they make a deal to go to London for the season and find a suitor for Rhi.
It was a cute enough premise, and the writing was nicely done. However I got very frustrated very early on with the characters - the way they went back and forth on why they should not marry while clearly enjoying each other company me made me a bit too annoyed with them, and I skimmed good part of the book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I adore this story. Rhi is everything a heroine should be and Marc gets there eventually.
Jen Geigle Johnson has created a masterpiece in this book and I adore this series. She tackles difficult topics in a natural and caring way and leaves room for adventure and romance.
This family of princes is wonderful to read and each story has a unique approach. What is not unique in these books are the strong intelligent women and the men who view them as partners. In this aspect, Ms. Johnson is elite in her craft. She shows that Happily ever after is possible with a well matched pair that believes in a true partnership as well as a stewardship to those they are responsible to care for.
I applaud this book and the others in this series. It is a true winner complete with personal growth and a Prince that has to learn what he truly needs.
I received an early copy through NetGalley and this is my honest review.
Jen Geigle Johnson is one of those authors that doesn't write fluff. Her historical details added story lines make it a full story, not just something you would get anywhere else. When I was reading this, I kept thinking how at this plot point or that plot point any other book could end with a good proclamation of love and be done. Most would be happy with that. But it kept going and added more depth and intrigue. All of the books in this series have been like this.
Although it is a series, you could definitely read each one, including A Tenuous Betrothal, as standalones and be happy. I just prefer to keep going and live in those stories longer and will always suggest you read the other books, and in order if you can.
Rhianna and Marc are thrown together by their fathers, very unexpectedly. Neither one knows about the betrothal they arranged for Rhi until Marc is chosen by his father to be the son to marry her. But he doesn't find out until he is there to gather her from Wales. They decide to come up with a plan to get around the betrothal but their friendship develops deeper and as much as they long to be together, danger lurks. Marc is determined to make her marry someone else so he can keep her as safe as possible in his work as a spy for his country during a tenuous time in European history- just before Napoleon escapes exile.
There were moments of tenderness, courage, stubbornness, adventure, and danger in this enthralling book Jen has created. It is a must pick up from me.
A fairy tale with a twist
This story starts in Wales in 1815. I thought it was interesting the author has a Welsh heritage. Rhianna Davies is kind, strong, beautiful, and brave, but she is also an orphan. Her uncle recently inherited everything her father had, including some mines, and kicked her out of her home to live in an old hunting cottage. He doesn’t care about the miners and requires them to work longer hours and in more dangerous conditions.
Rhianna is rescued when an unknown prince shows up to escort her to his country. She was surprised to find out her dad’s close friend is a king and had pledged one of his sons in marriage to her if she wasn’t married when her dad dies. However, Rhi doesn’t want an arranged marriage and only wants to marry for love. She doesn’t need to worry because Prince Marc Wilhelm doesn’t want to marry her either due to his dangerous job as head of security. He has them stop in London on the way home hoping to find someone else for her to marry. It’s a little frustrating neither of them will admit they are the best match for each other. There is also some mystery about how their families are connected.
This book is definitely not realistic, but fairy tales aren’t meant to be. I liked the twist with Rhi rescuing the prince. Thanks to Covenant Communications and NetGalley for a temporary digital copy to use for my review.
I really enjoyed this book by Jen Geigle Johnson. I loved how independent and brave Rhianna was. I liked how Marc and Rhianna brought out the best in each other even if it took Marc a while to overcome his fears to let her in. I liked the history and adventure that was in this book. I also loved how the romance developed between Marc and Rhianna. I also liked seeing more of the other brothers and seeing their personalities. I thought this was a good book and would recommend it.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
This was such a wonderful story set between Wales and London. I just couldn't put this book down. I just had to read it in one sitting. Even though this book is the 3rd in a series it reads well as a standalone book. I loved the storyline which follows a lady from a Welsh mining town through her season in London then back to her roots. This book whisked me away on a wonderful journey as the female protagonist is forced to find a husband. I especially loved this character which I warmed to straight away as she was bold and confident despite her mean uncle. The other characters were great and well developed and very realistic. It was definitely a brilliant page turning novel. This was a fantastic historical fiction book that contains a hint of slow burning romance. The pace was great and it was so well wrote. The ending was brilliant and so satisfying but I won't be giving anything away. I really can't recommend this book enough if you love historical fiction with a hint of romance then this book is definitely for you. Plus it has such a beautiful cover that shouts read me!
Only the highest of praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating such a magnificent story that will have you engrossed in seconds. I look forward to reading more from this wonderful author.

I love a good historical romance and this one by Jen Geigle Johnson did not disappoint. Her characters seemed to jump off the page. And the plot kept me interested until the very end. It’s the third book in a series, but it stands alone just great too.
Rhianna overcomes so much in this book. Her uncle is a terrible person. She not only survives his throwing her out, but she thrives as she moves from Wales to London to Oldenburg. I loved the way she cared for the workers in the mine. Enough to get in and get dirty herself. And some of these parts had me googling just what the author was talking about. I love when I learn something from my reading!
Then there’s Marc. I was really excited to get to read his story. I’ve loved him in the other books. But he really needed someone to talk some sense into him. I didn’t love how he kept pushing Rhi away, when he knew he cared for her. These two make such a great team. I loved them together!
I loved that this one was set in such a wide variety of places. Oldenburg is one of my favorite fictional places. And I really need to see Wales!
Make sure to read this one, it’s so great!
I was sent a copy of A Tenuous Betrothal as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Dear Marc, Prince of Oldenburg,
Have you ever seen The Little Mermaid? Because there is a song in that show that was on loop in my head as I read your story. "Yes, you want her. Look at her, you know you do. It's possible she wants you too, there is one way to ask her. . . and you don't know why but you're dying to try, you want to kiss the girl." I felt like Sebastian in your story.
Kiss the girl!! I get why you held back, well actually, I don't. I get why YOU think you should've held back, but I don't get it. Anyone who looks at you two can see clearly that you are meant to be together. It's all there. She is beautiful, inside and out. She is smart, loyal, kind and brave. Seriously?! What were you doing? KISS THE GIRL.
I will say that I admire your kindness. Rhianna really needed someone to step in and help her and you did it, perfectly. I loved how you listened to her and respected what she said and what she wanted. Yes, your loyalty to your country is admirable too. It is. It's just, . . . Rhianna. But you eventually got there. It took quite the event to get you there, but hallelujah, you got there. You are so lucky you didn't lose your girl to one of your brothers.
Oh, and one other little thing. Now that we are such tight friends, I wondered if I could visit your castle? I promise I won't get in your way at all. I'll just find a little spot, overlooking the water with a cozy chair and a book. You won't even know I am there.
Give my best, kindest regards to Rhi. She is amazing.
Yours sincerely,
Aimee, queen of nothing but a fan of your story and your beautiful book cover. 💙
Another fabulous addition to the Royal Regency Romance series. This story find Marc Wilhelm, one of the princes of Oldenburg, being sent to rescue a damsel in distress. Rihanna Davies is not you typical damsel in distress, but she does need help to keep the workers and families of her late fathers mine, from her careless Uncle that inherited all her fathers holdings. The story is intriguing, suspenseful and romantic. It really picked up speed midway through. I think a bit less London time and more spy/Oldenburg time, would have held my interest more. The characters are charming, stubborn, witty and loyal. All the Wilhelm princes are swoon worthy, Marc and Rhi definitely had chemistry. I’m hoping for the “wedding of the century”, in the next book. 4.5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Sometimes a girl just needs a prince charming.... But will she find romance in her heart?
Rhianna had been through so much. The loss of her parents and then her mean uncle who will not let her stay at her family estate. When all seems lost...
When Prince Wilhelm has come to claim to claim Rhianna, when a clause to her father's will shows they are to be betrothed. The problem is he is does not want to get married. So he will help find her a husband and maybe one of his brothers will do!
A journey to find a happy every after that is not smooth at all, but will definately be worth it!
Prince Marc Wilhelm, in true knight in shining armor fashion, swoops in and saves Rhianna Davies from her odious and greedy uncle. I enjoyed the setting of Wales, the strong and caring Rhi, and all of the princes in the Wilhelm family. Rhi had the patience of a saint to wait on Marc to overcome his self-made obstacles of marriage. They make a great pair and I hope to hear more about them in upcoming books in the Royal Regency series.
If you like historical novels, arranged marriages, and a bit of political intrigue, then you will enjoy reading this book. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-arc of the book. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own.
This series just keeps getting better and better! I love Marc and Rhi!!! I love them separately and together. They are joyful, creative, and kind. I liked the plot of this story and it flowed well. It was easy to see why they fell for each other even when they vehemently opposed it at the beginning. I love getting a glimpse of some of the counter measures countries were taking against Napoleon even though he shouldn't have been a threat while exiled. Super interesting and fun read!
I read Royal Regency #1 and some how missed #2 which I have every intention of reading. But I’m here to talk about boo 3 and tell you that I gave it a 4.5⭐️.
In some ways I thought it was even better than the first in the series. What I really liked was the closeness these two had to endure. I could see almost right away that they were perfect for each other and enjoyed their romance so much. Marc was everything I like about an honorable man. It never dragged and it had a good pace. I love this royal family and can’t wait to see stories for them all.
Thanks Covenant Communications via NetGalley.
I love the Wilhelm family. This is such a wonderful series. Rhi and Marc were so good to respect each other's wishes. I loved their easy comradery and the relationship they developed. Rhi was an amazing character with so much grit and love. She was constantly amazing me. Marc was stubborn, but luckily finally came around. I loved seeing old characters from the other books and getting a further glimpse into their HEA.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley and this is my honest review.
