I really liked this book despite it being a little slow in the beginning but that ending made up for everything!!

What a beautiful love story. Torn by duty and independence Rhianna and Marc fall in love but continually fight it until dire circumstances bring them to their senses and they learn what is most important.

A Tenuous Betrothal is a delightful addition to the Royal Regency series. Set in the early 1800s, the intriguing plot flows fluidly and at a fitting pace. Wherever the story takes you—the mines of Wales, the world of London high society, or beautiful Oldenburg—vivid, detailed descriptions help you visualize and “feel” the setting. Headlined by a strong, caring, intelligent heroine and a noble, protective hero, the characters are well-developed and engaging. Rich historical detail is artfully woven into the captivating fictional narrative. Moments of humor and a slow-building romance add to the enjoyment of the read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next adventure featuring the charming Princes of Oldenburg. Note: Even though this is the third book in the series, it can be easily be read as a standalone.

Wow! Where has this author been?! Her books are incredible and this story, wow, it was beautiful!
As I’m sure you would guess from the title, there is an arranged marriage- yay! That always promises to be a fun read. But with a fun little twist, they both refuse to marry eachother. But the connection between them, the tension and the friendship that develops, woah!
Rih is such a beautiful person, inside and out. She is loyal, caring, humble and selfless, and just takes life as it comes. She is remarkable! And also a little stubborn, in the best of ways.
Marc is also pretty remarkable, but he also is a bit stubborn. He’s selfless, caring, and gives all of himself to his role as Prince and spy. So much so that he isn’t willing to marry when he cannot guarantee his own safety in his line of work. Which really sounds quite noble now that I say it, but at the time, I was just frustrated with him!

Aside from the adorable relationship of Rhi and Marc, I really loved getting to know Marc’s brothers and the side story with the mine and the loyal servants. All of which will make sense when you read the book, which you should go do immediately!

This beautiful book releases August 1, and you do not want to miss it!

I haven’t read the previous two books in this series as of yet, and didn’t feel like I was missing any of the story. But I will absolutely be going back and reading them, this book was so good!

Thankyou NetGalley and Covenant Communications for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Historical romance! Marc and Rhiannon are thrown into impossible situations. Rhiannon follows Marc though because she realizes there is nothing left for her at home. Marc is the last connection she may have to her fathers wishes and she wants to see it through. Marc has other endeavors on his mind and it makes it hard to bring the two of them together. I need to read the other two books in this series now! Would recommend for lovers of clean romance!

An excellent tale that takes you from Wales to London to Oldenburg, dealing with mostly unsafe conditions of the mining industry, the stint with the ton and the inane wagers people engage in and the business of spycraft for a nation’s security. In the midst of all this, is the growing love between the main characters and the realization they can’t live without each other. Secondary characters, like the brothers, are begging to have their stories told.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and leaving my review voluntarily.

It hurts to say this but I had to DNF this book. There's nothing really wrong with it, but the thing that made me get bored was that the plot doesn't make any sense. At all. The love interest is a prince and he can afford to help the main character get ownership over the mine without a fuss.

Another thing I didn't like was that the main characters acted like children and toyed around with their feelings as if the whole deal with the marriage could be over if they just start acting like adults.

This is a preference, but the document was just a pain to read. It was not fit for an e-book.

I'm truly sorry that I had to rate it this low, but I was given this arc in exchange for an honest review. Thank you NetGalley and Covenant Communications

This was a sweet book! The characters were a lot of fun and full of life. A Tenuous Betrothal is the third book in Jen Giegle Johnson’s Royal Regency series. I have really liked Johnson’s other books so I was excited to try this one out. I haven’t read the first two but I was still able to enjoy this one!
Rhianna Davies was just trying to get by. She was trying to help the workers under her family’s mines, but her uncle had taken control upon her father’s death. Rhi was struggling, ans she didn’t know what to do. But then she finds herself betrothed to a prince who doesn’t want to marry her but may be the answer to her problems. Prince Marc Wilhelm is only in Wales to find his betrothed and hopefully break their engagement without upsetting his father. However as he spends more time with Rhi, he finds a woman to admire and maybe even love.
I liked Rhi and her spark. She was fearless and kind. There were times when she was a bit impulsive and got on my nerves, but I still enjoyed reading about her. She was a character that I could connect with and someone that I wanted to find a happy ending. It was fun to read about Rhi as she learned to find herself and even trust Marc that he was the kind of man who wanted to help. But Rhi would have to learn how much she was willing to risk for love and if love was worth all of the potential heartache.
Oh, Marc. He tried so hard to protect his heart. I did like Marc, he had me from the beginning. He was kind and noble, but he was not looking to get married. Rhi was an obstacle that he did not know how to deal with. But it was a lot of fun to read about him falling for Rhi and trying to fight his feelings. Marc had to learn to trust others and that falling in love wasn’t a bad thing. He needed to see that it was okay to ask for help.
Rhi and Marc had an easy chemistry that made it fun to read about them. Their romance was gradual and I think that it fit the characters. They struggled through their feelings but it didn't feel rushed. I liked the plot and I was drawn into the story, but it did take me a bit to really get invested. So while it was more of a slower start for me, I would still recommend this book. The side characters, Marc’s brothers, were also a wonderful addition and I am excited for their books.
A Tenuous Betrothal was a great book and I would recommend it to those who enjoy regency novels with royalty. A Tenuous Betrothal is a clean regency romance book.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.

This was such a swoony historical romance fiction. Arranged engagement, with two unwilling participants. While their chemistry is there, they want to choose their partner, and they want to make sure their lives are conducive to marriage.

Rhi grew up in Wales and was recently orphaned. When her uncle throws her out of the estate and controls the family mining business, Rhi doesn’t know how to support the workers with so little power. How can she leave the people she loves in the care of someone that does not consider their well being?

Marc is a prince of Oldenberg and has no idea he is secretly betrothed to Rhi until he delivers an addendum her Father’s will. While he planned to marry at some point, he feels his role in security is not compatible with married life.

As Rhi and Marc work together to settle Rhi’s beloved mine workers, and set about to search for a more suitable match for Rhi, attachment forms between them. This book had a lot of chemistry, adventure and beauty.

Book Review- A Tenuous Betrothal by Jen Geigle Johnson
Up for preorder now and comes out August 8 so if the trope of a Prince coming to the rescue of a fair maiden is your favorite definitely give this book a read!

Rhianna Davies is forced to live in a tiny run down cabin by her mean Uncle who took over running her parents mine after they passed away. In comes Prince Marc Wilhelm of Oldenburg who was sent by his father to help Rhianna. But when the two of them find out that their marriage has been arranged, they decide together to go against their fathers wishes and try to find a love match for Rhianna instead.

This book is full of romance and mystery with a little spying mixed in. Such a cute and fun read! I really enjoyed this book. I read this as a stand alone but it does appear to be a part of a series so I want to read the other books now.

This was my first Jen Geigle Johnson book, and I am happy to say that I loved it! I look forward to reading more of her books.

There were many things that I enjoyed about this book. Rhi and Marc were both very likeable characters, the plot felt fresh, and it was an easy read. The romance grew between them naturally and they were compatible- their affection for each other made sense and I cheered for them as a pair. When the novel starts, Rhi is living in the family hunting lodge in an effort to stay close and advocate for the miners who worked for her deceased father's mine. Prince Marc shows up with an agreement from their fathers that the pair would marry. Both are opposed at first, but as they spend time together, they start to question their resistance to the idea.

I do feel like this book would have been stronger as a novella. At times, it felt like it was being stretched. Rhi would be certain that Marc loved her, but then doubt. It felt like a bit of a yoyo at times. I also feel like it would have been stronger if one problem had been focused on- either Rhi's attachment to the miners and a reluctance to leave them to her uncle's hand or Marc's dangerous job and his fight against Nazi supporters. It felt like some of the "major" problems within the book were resolved quickly, and the novel may have been stronger with a tigther focus.

Overall though, I enjoyed the book and will definitely read more from this author in the future! I'd recommend this to anyone who likes historical, clean romance novels.

Oh Prince Marc, I have long been waiting for your story. You were just as wonderful as I thought you would be. But sometimes I wanted to give you a little shake to help you wake up from whatever stupor was causing you to be so noble and step aside for someone else to woo Rhianna. You just needed a little help there to realize that you deserve happiness and love just as much as your subjects and your brothers and Rhi!

If I were to write a letter to Prince Marc, that's probably what I would tell him. Hahahaha!!! I know, he's not real. He's a fictional character. But I don't care. I still really enjoyed his character and his story. He is truly a gentleman and a knight in shining armor. *Swoon* He just needs a nudge here and there to help him figure out a few things. And when he catches on to a few bluffs, there might just be some hope for him yet.

Rhianna is one tough lady! She was very strong a resilient in the challenges that faced her from the beginning of this book. She cares deeply and without reservation and that showed through all of her actions. Especially in her actions to help the miners in her home village. Yet her hands are tied. What can she do? Everything! She won't let anything stop her from caring and loving and doing all in her power and then some.

Put these two together during a season and you have some pretty fun scenes and moments, some awkward moments (created by none other than Prince Marc of course)! The staircase scenes were some of my favorite scenes. *Happy Sigh and Swoon*

There are moments amidst the swooning and awkwardness that will have you frustrated and hoping everything will be ok. Great blending of all the emotions and relationships from previous books to make a delightful and wonderful book. Plus...bonus!!! We got to meet the rest of the brothers!!! They have some fun in this book in tormenting, well maybe tormenting isn't the right word, but helping to nudge Marc in the right direction. *Smirks* I loved meeting more about them and hope that we'll be seeing a book for each of them as well!!!

Content: Clean. Some moments of mild peril. Nothing further than a few kisses.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

3.5-4 Stars!! This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I did enjoy this book and loved how it’s got a lot of historical facts in it. I liked the main characters, Rhianna and Marc, but the reason they couldn’t be together? Not good enough. Some of the secondary characters seemed to have just disappeared mid book and the book felt like it had a lot to get through and was abnormally long, or just felt that way. Would’ve loved if it had an epilogue to wrap everything up. Just when I thought I was at the end of the story, something dramatic would happen. All in all a good book that I did enjoy most of with an HEA ending but just too much for me. Too much what, you ask? Everything. Just too much.

I'm enjoying this series and feel like each book is better than the last. I was kinda mad when I had to go to bed last night so close to the end but not close enough. Sigh. I really wanted to finish it but it was already after 1:00 am so... I love this royal family with a bazillion handsome princes, most of which are still eligible. Each prince we meet has a delightful personality even as a side character.

Rhi and Marc are both very brave characters that want to do what is right to help others, even if it puts them in danger. They are both likable. I enjoyed their romance which doesn't move very fast because they are a little stubborn. This is kind of a Cinderella story as the handsome prince literally saves the girl from her uncle inflicted destitution. But Rhi isn't a helpless character. She will always stand up for what is right. Go Rhi! She and Marc are well suited for each other.
There are some dark events in the book but the story doesn't get bogged down in the darkness. The reader is well aware of events but the story keeps moving to get back in the light as soon as possible making the romance the focus.

I'm looking forward to reading about the next prince. Which one will it be?

No sex or language.
Some violence-not graphic

Rhianna (Rhi) Davies is a strong willed, independent women. At the beginning of the book, she has lost almost everything in her life that matters. Her parents are dead, her horrible uncle has taken over the family's mining business and is a terrible person, he has pushed her out of her family home, removed any say she had towards the mine and the workers. She is forced to live in an old hunting cottage with no prospects. That is until an amendment to her fathers will shows up at her uncle's doorstep in the hands of Marc Wilhelm, Prince of Oldenburg. This will be her saving grace, this is her chance for a better life, and hopefully a better life for the miners. The catch, she must marry the Prince. Prince Marc is simply fulfilling his fathers request, He is a spy, he job is to protect his country, and he cannot afford to settle down. With no desire to marry, especially each other, the two make the necessary arrangements to hopefully care for the miners and their families, and travel to Oldenburg. The pair agree to come up with a plan to avoid marriage to each other, but also to secure the happiness of all parties involved. The only problem is, they really were meant for each other.

This is the third book in the series and it fits beautifully with the others! I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down!

I enjoyed this sweet romance from Jen Geigle Johnson. The time period and the settings were amazing. I really loved Rhi and Marc as main characters, and I thought they had a great chemistry and enjoyed their interactions so much. It did get a little old that the only reason he wouldn't marry her is that his life was too dangerous. It felt repetitive as he used that excuse over and over and over.

I loved that Rhi was independent and adventurous, but sometimes it felt a bit too modern for the time period. There were also a lot of circumstances in the book where I just had to sit back and enjoy the story instead of analyzing the feasibility of the events.

Overall, it was entertaining and the romance was so fun to read.

Thank you to Covenant Communications, NetGalley, and Jen Geigle Johnson for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinions!

A TENUOUS BETROTHAL by JEN GEIGLE JOHNSON is an historical romance novel which is a really “feel good”read and one I recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.
Starting in 1815 in the Cresselly mining area in Wales, we follow the lovely Rhianna Davies as she spends some time in London, ending up in Oldenburg, where she has a choice between six handsome princes as a marriage partner. But will the one she has already chosen ever be able to get past his feeling of responsibility to his country and commit himself fully to her?
The book is full of adventure, romance and political upheaval. The author has described the plight of the Welsh miners, the life of the “ton” in London, and the political problems in Europe caused by Napoleon’s regime, really well.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Covenant Communications.
The opinions in this review are completely my own.

THIS THIS THIS

Was I expecting to love A Tenuous Betrothal as much as I did??? NO. NEVER. DIDN'T EVEN CROSS MY MIND.

But boy was I mistaken!

Rhianna and Marc are what we all are looking for in characters. They are strong, brave, and so hopelessly in love. Not to mention RICH.

I was take either one of them to be completely honest.

Sorry, I seem wayyyy too thirsty right now lol.

Anyway, go read it, because I guarantee you will love it :)

2.5*

It was the cover that caught my attention. Then the blurb sounded interesting so I requested this book.

Now this is a difficult review to write because I have such mixed feelings.
Firstly I liked Rhianna from the get go and this seemed like it would be more than your typical historical romance. Marc quickly won me over and all was good.
But then he had to go and spoil it by constantly telling us he wasn’t ready to marry. Once yes, twice okay, three, four, five times? It seemed every time he opened his mouth he was telling us he wasn’t ready to marry. It was at this point when (if I hadn’t requested the book) normally I’d quit and move on to something else. But since I’d asked for this I decided to finish it.

Now it’s not all bad by a long shot. There’s some enjoyable parts. Rhi and Marc get on well, his brothers are great and a lot of the book had a good feel to it. But it was far too long. I found myself losing interest towards the end.

And then…

There’s a part. Okay there’s more than one and yes okay I’m prepared to suspend belief to a certain degree. But one part in particular was so ridiculous it just ruined the book for me. I mean I know it’s not a serious book. I’ve always defended authors of historical romances when people complain certain parts aren’t factual. If you want facts read a text book not a romance. But this was just stupid and while you can say get over it. I couldn’t.

So I’m going to agree to disagree with this book. It’s obviously jist not the book for me. Most of the other reviews are glowing so assume it’s me not the book.

I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
