This is a great fit for readers who enjoy heartwarming, emotional, and romantic stories about second chances, friendship, and the healing power of love, particularly those who appreciate a strong, brooding hero and a kind, nurturing heroine.
This book is the perfect mix between sexy navy seal man and also Leslie North writing style it’s quick it’s easy it’s fun and it doesn’t have a third at break up it is quick and I love it and it’s such a great thing to read for going to bed, could just get you in your field and it puts you in such a good mood
I really tried with this story, but I wasn't feeling the connection between the two characters at all. The writing didn't grab me in either.
Although I did finish this book, I didn’t find it as engaging as others by Leslie North. I found it lacked a bit of something in the middle, which made it easy to put down at that point. It did pick up towards the end though and was an enjoyable read.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
I loved this book and enjoyed the escape from my usual reads to dive into this Romance. I will read more from this author. Thank you for the advanced copy
The SEAL's Sexy Neighbor
by Katie Knight, Leslie North
Sutton and Marisol are neighbours and Marisol is the manager of the building where they have a mystery death of an elderly tenant. Marisol is concerned about the death being suspicious. Marisol tries to get Sutton, a retired seal, to help her.
The story was a but hard going and slow. 2.5/5
Trigger Warnings
This book contains:
• Cheating ex (discussed)
• Manipulative ex (discussed and interacted with)
• Drug addiction
• Potential/attempted murder
• Assault
• War wound (gunshot to the leg that’s left lifelong impacts)
• Corruption (dirty cop)
Characters
Marisol is a sparky Porta Rican superintendent and owner of an apartment building in Brooklyn. Since her parents retired to Porta Rica, she’s been looking after the building and its tenants and it’s a job she really loves. Mostly because she’s a kind-hearted person who likes caring for others.
Sutton is one of Marisol’s tenants after being discharged from the SEALs due to his leg injury. While he continues to adapt back to civilian life, he’s faced with continual challenges with his leg, the constraints of what he’s physically and mentally capable of doing now and attempting to get into the dating world again. All of which he’s got Marisol supporting him through.
Storyline
When one of Marisol’s tenants dies unexpectedly, her life takes a turn as she deals with the death of her tenant and lifelong friend, his drug addict grandson and only living relative, another tenant getting assaulted and so much more. With Sutton’s help (as he manages his own life decisions and attempts to re-enter the dating market) she needs to get everything in order to put the apartment up for lease while trying to solve the mystery that is his grandson.
Overall Thoughts
The story itself was really interesting and explored a few different topics, however, the editing really frustrated me and is mostly why I didn’t think it was as good in the end.
Now, I know I got an advanced copy from Netgalley, but I can’t say I’ve ever had one with such poor spelling and grammar from there before!
My understanding was that the books should be pretty close to being ready to be published by the time it goes on Netgalley so while I understand that some errors will likely still make it through, I shouldn’t be having to rearrange sentences, completely change words out or correct spelling in my head just to have it make sense. I’m really hoping it got another few rounds of edits in before it got released, but if not, you’ll likely get pretty frustrated at the problems like I did.
But going back to the story now, the pacing was really well done. There were changes between romance, action, drama and everything else to keep you engaged and wanting to know more. And it ended really strongly. It really was just that need for more edits that brought it down!
Marisol is the manager of an apartment building after taking over for her parents who moved to Puerto Rico. Sutton Gray has been discharged from the Navy Seals after being wounded. Marisol is the sunshine in the friendship to Sutton's grumpy demeanor. Sutton lives in Marisol's apartment building where they have developed a friendship.
After Mr. Donovan dies and leaves. Marisol in charge of cleaning out his apartment, his nephew begins to cause problems for Marisol. Sutton, of course, steps in to help and protect her. Through this, they grow closer and realize their attraction for each other.
Those who are not a fan of the insta-love trope will appreciate the build from friendship that their romance takes. As there are other SEAL books, I do feel like I might have missed some backstory between these two characters. While it did not prevent from understanding or enjoying any of the story, I would have liked more about the characters.
I felt like this dragged a bit in the middle where we did not get any development in the mystery of the apartment or with their romance. But then the story did pick back up towards the end where everything was resolved.
Overall, this was a cute somewhat steamy romance with a touch of mystery thrown in.
When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day. This one took by surprise!
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.
Sutton and Marisol are neighbours...she owns and manages the apartment building. But honestly, she's annoying, trying to fix everyone and everything. I cheered out loud when Sutton finally told her...just for her to interfere further! The book was OK but it was difficult to get past her need to help.
I tried exploring reading this genre however this book hasn't grasp my attention. The characters was quite as I imagined.
It was okay. I mostly skimmed the story, trying to see the source of the Big Bad danger, although I guessed correctly pretty early on. Not bad, but not great.
Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy.
The SEAL's Sexy Neighbour is about neighbours and best friends Marisol and Sutton. It seems to have potential for a sweet love story but it's taken a bit far. Sutton is a former SEAL who came back with some injuries. I really struggled with his character. It felt like he spent the entire book complaining about everything. Marisol was a sweetheart who manages an apartment building, and is friends with everyone. I found the plot to be a bit predicable and just skims pages to get thru the book.
It definitely had potential, and it a nice read if you just want a happy ending and a bit of escape.
The hero is a former SEAL with an injury that makes him grumpy. The heroine is the apartment manager that became neighbors with the hero. The two are friends but there is a definite attraction between them. Their relationship changed when danger arrives. Will they get closer after the danger is over or will the hero's past break them apart?
This is an entertaining romantic suspense story. I enjoyed the interactions between the hero and the heroine. I liked the couple together and as individuals. I would have liked more details in certain parts of the story but that's a personal preference of mine. Overall, an enjoyable book.
**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions and thoughts in the review are my own.**
It's an easy read about Marisol and Sutton's romance. A bit predicable at times although there are a few surprises. It was good to hear Sutton's point of view especially having left the SEALs and his struggles but I felt that could have been covered a bit more. It just lacked something. A nice read.
Engaging friends to lovers+ - super hot nice-guy ex-SEAL, big-hearted beautiful bestie - and there you go! A bit of mystery thrown into their developing relationship - a great weekend or vacation read!
Sutton and Mari have a romance that is pure Leslie North. The sexy SEAL has an injury that tests his body and his mind but Mari does not give up on him. She knows he is healing slowly and she refuses to let him slip back in to himself. When Mari's life is on the line, Sutton pushes all of his insecurities to the side.
This is a fast paced easy quick read that is action packed, a pager turner, entertaining, suspenseful, steamy, romantic, great hero, great heroine with an awesome plot.
Sutton is a super sexy alpha retired disabled Navy SEAL. Sutton was on a mission and was shot in the leg; returning home after being discharged medically. Sutton is alone and a loner, feeling sorry for himself. Marisol and Sutton are next neighbors and have become friends in an apartment building that belongs to Marisol and her family. Marisol is letting Sutton feel sorry for himself; she is there for him. The tenants of the building all look out for each other and are there for each other. Sutton and Marisol are growing rather fund of each other yet fighting their feels. Sutton is out on a date when he receives a call from Marisol about an incident at the building and Sutton rushes back to be at her side.
Can Marisol help Sutton in his healing process, will he pull away, together can Marisol and Sutton figure what’s going on at the apartment building, will the two have an HEA?
Usually a fan of Katie Knight/Leslie north but just could not get into this book. didn't like the characters and the story and found myself just skimming the pages in the hopes of finishing it.
This story is steamy and seductive with a healthy dose of action to keep you coming back for more. Fighting attraction has neve been harder!
