This is a delightful book about family relationships and all of the joys and sorrows that go with loving people that we choose and that we inherit when we marry someone. Bea as the main character of this story struggles with misplaced rejection by her husband's family as she struggles with the loss of both her husband and daughter in very different and yet painful ways. While some of the characters were stereotypes, their place in the story served as touch points to the growth of Bea and other key characters. While this book that dealt with so much sadness and a reality for so many people, it was a joy to read. Even though it was predictable in places, I was grateful to see individuals grow and flourish in the midst of such conflict. Since the setting is in Great Britain, there are some societal situations such as care homes that I did not fully understand as an American until further in the book, but the setting was enjoyable for this American who has traveled to the United Kingdom on more than one occasion.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a strong family tale about the power of truth and redemption in healing the human spirit.
This was an easy read and I enjoyed it.
Following Bea and her life after her husband dies, then her daughter leaving in difficult circumstances . Her misplaced obligation to her ungrateful in laws and trying to do a job she loves.
This was a well-written, emotionally-resonant novel about family connections. The main character Bea is warm, giving and easy to root for. A great read.
Can you put a price on love?
A mystery full of family drama and so many secrets and lies.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I devoured this hugely satisfying debut novel. ( So good I read it twice !) The characters are vividly drawn and leave you thinking of them long after the last page has turned . Bea is a brave woman who finds herself in an unfair and impossible position. Her love for her family is in danger of tearing her apart. The family members who surround her are all too willing to take advantage of her good nature , including hiding secrets for their own less than altruistic reasons ! The author’s descriptions are so beautifully written that at times the reader feels like entering a watercolour painting. Her Daughter’s Secret is full of quiet , well observed humour . It made me cry, it made me smile and it made me look forward to this writer’s next novel ! I highly recommend it, readers of Linda Green and Dorothy Koomson will love it .
A beautifully written book, full of believable engaging characters and relationships. The attention to detail and picture painting is just gorgeous.
The story line is gripping (I read the book in a day) and is cleverly told. I laughed and cried. It was everything I love in a book. I can’t believe this is a debut novel. I look forward to reading more from Lisa Timoney.
This was everything you need for a thriller and crime story. It is not as black and white as you first think and like most typical thrillers, is full of twists. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
3.5/5.
An emotional story line with fantastic characters which had me gripped from the start. I look forward to reading more by Lisa.
Her Daughter’s Secret by Lisa Timoney is a beautifully written family drama.
Timoney's debut novel was truly an amazing story.
The writing was phenomenal and kept me hooked throughout it all.
I found this book extremely moving and touching. The setting was very detailed and I could picture everything so vividly. Her Daughter’s Secr was incredibly well told, a stunning book and I enjoyed it immensely.

Avon,

Read it in a day with barely any breaks, but the breaks that I took just meant that I was thinking about it and wanted to get back to it!
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Bea is missing her daughter. When he daughter come home, she is excited. When a secret is revealed it becomes a time for reflection. This book made me think about what family means.
What a fantastic read. Such a great story and I absolutely loved Bea ,after struggling with family tragedies and money worries Bea who works in a care home which she loves decides to go and live with her brother in law and look after her niece. and also help his difficult mother who lives nearby. She is such a beautiful, caring and loving person but also has to try and be strong as she struggles to get her life back on track and hopefully be reunited with her daughter who disappeared after being blamed for something that resulted in her rebellious behaviour. A real tearjerker at times and its its beautifully written with much sensitivity. Highly recommended I really loved it
A fast paced mystery that I read in one sitting. It was well written with a good storyline and well developed characters that were likeable, well some of them, believable and relatable. The story was full of secrets, lies and family dramas. It was heartbreaking and emotive at times as well. A great read.
A real mystery tied up with family, secrets and emotions. My first read from this author, but it won’t be my last! I’d recommend to all!
Heartbreaking and life affirming
This heartbreaking debut novel from Lisa Timoney had me turning the pages late into the night, hoping against hope that everything was going to turn out well for Bea and her daughter.
Bea is such a relatable character – as a mother, an aunt, a friend – that I was rooting for her from the very beginning of the novel. It is clear from the outset that she is not revealing everything, but Timoney manages to keep us hooked as we learn more about Bea, her daughter and the nature of the family she married into.
As the revelations from the past are filtered through to the reader, Bea’s pain and regret are revealed. It is a testament to the author that she manages to take a difficult situation and make us not only believe it, but empathise with the decisions Bea has made.
The cast of supporting characters were also brilliantly drawn: some I wanted to see get their comeuppance and others I just loved (ahem, Eddie). I also hugely enjoyed the humour in the conversations between Bea and her Car Home colleague Jan. (We all need a Jan in our life!)
A fantastic read which I would wholeheartedly recommend!
A good, fast paced read. Plenty of secrets, and they intertwined well. Some real human moments, loved the care home scenes. I wouldn't say it was a 'thriller' but it is a great mystery.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Avon Books UK and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
A mystery full of intrigue and suspense, as it should. Perfectly paced, hard to put down.
How far does one go to keep the family together?.
Beas daughter is estranged, her husband and sister in law are both passed. She takes care of her niece and her nieces overbearing father. There is also the penance she feels she owes her cranky mother in law.
I was exhausted for Bea, so many balls in the air, her estrangement form her daughter and just her general heartbreak
A good, emotional read by an author who I will look to read more from!
This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. A novel of mystery and intrigue written by a talented author. Mother/daughter...friends...relatives...secrets...scary at times...what will happen next? This book is a cannot put down until finding the conclusion...Try this one. Although the story moves slowly, at times, it does come to a satisfying conclusion.
