I've read all the Alice Feeney books, and this has been my favorite one! I loved the ending, and it wasn't expected. The narrator was also great.
Good for fans of The Guest List and We Were Liars.
I love Alice Feeney so much, but this one let me down. I wanted to love this book, but it really took too long to reveal anything, and then the big reveal was a bit of a letdown and I struggled to really believe it.
If someone wanted to read one of Feeney’s books, I would recommend Rock, Paper, Scissors. That being said, I also did not like the books I found this to be similar to, so perhaps fans of those books would enjoy this more than I did.
Thanks so much to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love Alice Feeney and And Then There We’re None, a novel many authors attempted a new spin in, as they do with Pride and Prejudice. But I usually find books reinventing ATTWN disappointing compared to Agatha Christie’s beloved original. BUT NOT THIS TIME. Both books I are about murders motivated by a desire for justice, but Daisy Darker’s resolution was incredibly unique and a great twist. I also loved the original poems woven throughout the story. A home run!
Such a fun read. Similar to others I have read, a group of people, start going missing, dying, one by one. But this was nice with the poetry and kept me wanting to continue.
Daisy Darker is a thriller that kept me guessing every step of the way. The characters though not always likable were very well developed and interesting. I listened to the book. The narration was so good it was like being in a movie. And what an ending! Immediately after finished I got another Alice feeney audible book.
I will always remember the first time I watched the 1945 movie version of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None (when I was probably 12). At the end, there’s this eerie scene where you can hear the murderer playing pool in the other room and the camera slowly leads us in to discover who it is. I will never forget the spine-tingling fear I had with the realization that someone else was still on the Island,, and we were about to find out who.
And ever since, in every mystery I read, I have been chasing that feeling of delicious anticipation. And tonight, as I finished Daisy Darker, I finally found it.
And while there have been many attempts at the And Then There Were None plot line, none have been as well executed or have I enjoyed nearly as much as Daisy Darker. This is absolutely my favorite of Alice Feeney’s books to date, and I just can’t stop thinking about it.
Alice Feeney not only managed to perfectly capture the feeling of And Then There Were None, but also managed to give us a completely fresh story that fully stands on its own as one of the best thrillers (and locked-room plot lines) I’ve ever read. Daisy Darker was brilliantly executed and absolutely lands as one of my very favorite stories of all time.
Thank you, Alice Feeney, for this incredibly enjoyable reading experience. I loved every minute of it.
And the audiobook narration by Stephanie Racine was absolute perfection (as always).
Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney is the first book I have read by this author but not the last. It is the first book I have read in a long time that made me want to immediately start at page one.

It is Nana’s 80th birthday party and all of the Darker family is in attendance. Daisy Darker’s divorced parents, her two older sisters, her niece and family friend Conner. Once the tide comes in they will be stuck on the island where Nana lives until morning. At the stroke of midnight, when they find Nana dead the family does not know what happened or who they can trust.

-Page-Turner!! I could not stop listening to this audio.
-Fantastic narration by Stephanie Racine who makes this audiobook even more creepy then it already is.
-Disfunctional family
4.5 stars rounded up because of how wonderful the audio was. This is a book that I will be recommending for a long time!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this copy in exchange for an honest review.
Read this if…you enjoy locked room thrillers, like Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None.”
A huge thanks to Netgalley, the author, and Macmillan Audio for an ALC in exchange for my honest review!
The Darker family is a complicated one. The matriarch’s birthday falls on Halloween and this will be her 80th, and as foretold by a palm reader decades earlier, her last. To celebrate, she invites the entire family to her home, which is on a small island that can only be traveled to and from during high tide, keeping the guests from leaving for at least 8 hours.
What starts as a joyous, albeit awkward affair for the estranged relatives, quickly turns into a nightmare as one by one, the family starts to die. Accompanied with the deaths that happen every hour, like clockwork, is a gruesome verse from a story about the Darker family. The words written on the wall reveal the secrets these people have been trying to keep hidden, but someone knows everything and intends to make them all pay.
If it were possible to jump up and down while writing this review, I absolutely would! It lives up to the hype, people! I loved this book from start to finish. It’s a clever thriller that follows the basic premise of Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None,” but has twists all its own.
I enjoyed getting to know the Darker family and all their secrets. The rhyming stories were incredibly well done and added the perfect amount of sophisticated terror to an already intense locked room thriller. Get your hands on this one as soon as you can because I just know it’s going to be one of the best thrillers of the year!
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC! This book was more than I was expecting from the summary! A family comes together for the matriarch's 80th birthday. She believes her end is near and wants to let the family know what to expect from her will. As the story unfolds, dark secrets come to light and death comes to call. It's dark and twisty and a lot of fun.

💬 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨: Feeney's writing is always amazing, and Daisy Darker was no exception. As one of my most anticipated 2022 reads, I can definitely say this one loved up to my expectations! I definitely recommend it.
THIS AUDIOBOOK WAS SO GOOD!! I thought the narrator was phenomenal and really added to the creepiness of the book. I did not want this one to end!
I thought this book and story were so unique. The story immediately drew me in, and I never left! I stayed up late listening to this one! It's tense, it's creepy, it's heartbreaking, it's shocking. I enjoyed all of the storylines with the different characters (even though they were all pretty annoying), and the mystery surrounding the book - you never know who you can trust!

First ever Alice Feeney reader here - and boy oh boy did I ever enjoy the twists, turns and red herrings of Daisy Darker!
"I was born with a broken heart. I spent my whole life hiding inside of stories when the whole world got too loud. I don't know if anyone will read mine. There are some stories only time will tell." - Daisy Darker
This is a locked in story told at the 80th birthday celebration of Grandma Nana within her battered, broken-down home (a perfect setting for a sinister, creepy story.) The occasion should be one of happy memories, but these family members dont really seem to like one another. They are gathered to hear Nanas will. Stuck at the home until the tide is low, no one can leave and no one can come to the home. One by one they are killed. Why is this happening? Is this the act of one of the family members? Or is something darker going on here?
I know some readers guessed what happens, but I did not. And looking back, even if I had an inkling, I would still have enjoyed Feeney's writing and build up to the big twisty reveal. The Darker family's (dont you just love the name) past is just as important as the present. Feeney is a master of slower revealing one by one secrets and the characters of each family member, sucking us into what's going to happen and who is killing them off. So, while the book has a slow start, keep readingas its going to pick up and you wont be able to put the book down until all has been exposed. Looking back, I want more (and thats a sign I truly enjoyed it) - personally I would love to see this on the big screen.
Many thanks to MacMillian Audio, Net Galley and a fabulous narrator Stephanie Racine for bringing to life a haunting and ominous tale that was perfectly delightful. And thank you for introducing me to Alice Fenney.
Daisy Darker is definitely an Alice Feeney book and it is fantastic! Feeney does amazing work with ambiance and character voice while still busting out a plot that will leave you guessing until the end.
“Life is only ever a series of choices. We all have them and make them and regret them every single day. The ability to chose right from wrong is a fundamental part of being human.”
“Lead to me wrapping myself inside books, hundreds of them. Reading was one of the things I was still allowed to do. Books saved me and I ran away into the stories I read as a child. “
This book I can’t begin to express my love for it.
At first I wasn't sure how I felt when I finished this book, It took me a few days to think about it. Although the story was compelling, and the writing excellent, I found the ending somewhat anticlimactic. **SPOILER** Because the book had been compared to And Then There Were None, I was expecting, and hoping, for a clever twist ending and a revelation as to how everything was done. Instead, we get a paranormal explanation. The book had suspense, but lacked a bit of that creeping dread I would associate with a paranormal story., and I didn't really feel that the 'voice' of the main character fit in, but I understand this was part of the set-up. I do find that my perception of a book changes depending on whether I read it or listen to the audiobook. I might give this one a re-read in print a few months from now to see how I feel about it.
Daisy Darker is a atmospheric, creepy whodunit thriller set on a family home at sea. As the family finds out the contents of the grandmothers will, each of the family members has a reason to be angry enough to kill. This has a similar plot to many novels I've read but I still found this to be fresh and exciting for the most part. I really liked Daisy as a character and watching her perspective of the rest of the family. The POV jumps between the past and present as they watch VHS tapes that reveal their past behavior and it was intriguing to see how they fit into the plot. I couldn't figure out who the murderer was until it was finally revealed and then it felt like it should have been obvious. The ending was fitting and felt very appropriate. I enjoyed this and look forward to Alice Feeney's next release. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of Alice Feeney and am so thrilled I was given the chance to listen to an ARC of hers thanks to her, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley!
I loved this one and didn’t expect the crazy twist I got!
Narration by Stephanie Racine is excellent!

Daisy's rather unhappy family gathers at the isolated family home for her grandmother's 80th birthday - the one that she thought would be her last. Starting at midnight, a member of the family dies every hour. Distrust deepens, and decades-old secrets come to light. The murderer must be one of them, but that reveal isn't even the biggest twist. This story kept me guessing throughout, and the narrator did a great job modulating her voice to each character and adding to the suspense. My only quibble was that when she lowered her voice for effect, it was sometimes difficult to hear what she was saying.
This story was phenomenal! I read Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney earlier this year and was hooked on her writing. When I was given the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version of her newest novel, Daisy Darker, I jumped at the chance! I absolutely loved this audiobook!
The narrator was fantastic! She didn't just read the book - she told the story in true narrator fashion, with pauses, emphasis on certain words and phrases, and changes in her voice pitch and volume. I felt like I was there, experiencing the story along with the book characters, which I usually find difficult to do with audiobooks. I would definitely listen to another audiobook with #StephanieRacine as the narrator!
The writing in this book was very descriptive. It was easy to visualize the setting and each character had a very distinct personality. Nana and her dog, Poppins, were my favorite characters, along with Daisy. I was able to riddle out some of the plot twists along the way however, the conclusion was much more involved than I ever could have imagined!
Thank you to #NetGalley and #MacMillanAudio for the ARC of #DaisyDarker by #AliceFeeney with narration by #StephanieRacine - 5 stars for the story and 5 stars for the narration!
Thanks to Macmillan Audio for an advanced listening copy of Daisy Darker.
If you love a good game of Clue, chances are you'll enjoy Daisy Darker. The Darker family has been estranged from one another for quite some time. Only Daisy and her nana have remained close over the years. The family is reunited to celebrate Nana's 80th birthday on a tidal island. Once the tide comes in, no one can enter or leave the island for 8 hours. As the evening progresses, the Darkers are murdered one by one, hour by hour. The killer has to be in the house, but who is it and why do they want the Darkers dead? This was a quick listen for me. Although I didn't love the ending, it kept me engaged all the way through.
