I loved this book! I thought I had it figured out, but then there were so many twists and turns that I had no idea what was really going on. The nod to Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None was well done and enjoyable. There was enough mystery to keep you guessing, but enough thrill to keep it from getting boring. I loved Daisy, but I wasn't sure about her. Feeney made you feel strongly about all of the characters, so each event brought about an emotional response. I love Feeney's books, and this one may be my new favorite. I have already recommended it and will continue to do so. Can't wait for more reads from Feeney!

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
It’s been a long time since a book has really creeped me out… this one did it!
Daisy Darker is her grandmothers muse. She’s written several books with Daisy being the main character. When her whole family both her sister and parents come home to the tiny tidal island to celebrate her grandmother’s 80th birthday, people start dying. One by one hour by hour but they are trapped until low tide comes in. With poems and home movies things will eventually be explained but you won’t see the ending coming!

🎙Stephanie Recine is a fabulous narrator, I could listen to her read all day!
Thanks MacMillan & NetGalley for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are mine own.

This one had a little bit of everything and was a really quick enjoyable read. There was a mysterious island, an old house, chaacters with secrets, and a locked room type mystery with some good twists. I did figure out some of the twists prior to reading them, but that didn't take away from any enjoyment in reading the book.

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney is an Entertaining Mystery Thriller that kept me guessing till the end.
The story is narrated by Daisy Darker, Nana’s youngest of 3 granddaughters. The Darker Family has many secrets. “Some secrets are worth killing to keep”. When they all arrive at Seaglass on Halloween Eve for Nana’s Birthday, Nana shares her Will with them and none of them are happy. When midnight strikes someone is killing them off one by one.
I Loved all the rhyme’s throughout the book. ‘Hush Little Baby don’t you cry, Sometimes you live, sometimes you die’.
This was a fun read, would highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Darker was the perfect surname for this story. And in some ways it’s an understatement. Uniquely told Alice Feeney did an outstanding job with this. She hid the truth so well that I never saw it coming.
This story had me on the edge of my seat. It was definitely a messed up game of clue! 80 clocks? Poisonous plants. And a whole lot of selfish family members. Mystery and murder with a perfect mix of surprises.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and thought Stephanie Racine was great for the narrater.
Thanks Macmillan Audio via NetGalley.

Feeney crafts an atmospheric Agatha-Christie-inspired tale set at an English seaside cottage with a dash of Cluedo in Daisy Darker.
I felt truly immersed in the story and felt I was with the Darker family at Sea Glass.
Although a one-by-one mystery can often be formulaic and predictable, Feeney brought her plot twists she does so well into the narrative to create intrigue.

I began this book with visuals of Kay Thompson’s sweet Eloise paired with the film Knives Out as I got to know the Darker Family. Nana, a well known author, favored and wrote about her little Daisy much to the disdain of the rest of the family. Now all grown up, the family is together to celebrate Nana’s birthday. When the candles go out, though, nothing is what it seems. Everyone’s a threat, everyone’s at risk. A murder is at large and with low tide hours away, they can only sit and wait.

Feeney does not disappoint. My head is still in a tizzy as she pulls out all the stops later in the book. Twists and turns I did not predict and woven so eerily well together. Nothing more terrifying than bearing witness to the evil fear can create.

Dinner and movies with the Darkers if you dare!

I have been an avid Alice Feeney fan since she first debuted with Sometimes I Lie. Daisy Darker takes my love of her to an entirely new level. Daisy Darker follows the Darker family as they gather together for Nana's 80th birthday, what her psychic says will be her last. Coming together to celebrate on the family island, the tensions rise with the tide as they become trapped on the island till the tides go out. At the strike of midnight the first dead body appears. With dark family secrets, not only is everyone a suspect, they're also likely the next target. Stephanie Racine does a superb job narrating the layered tale as the mysteries and secrets are revealed, creating perfect tension with her voice. This brand new locked room mystery echoes the Queen of twists, Agatha Christie. With this latest installment from Feeney though, Christie might soon lose her crown. Daisy Darker is an absolute smash yet again from the supremely talented and twisted Alice Feeney.

For their Nana’s 80th birthday party, the entire Darker family reunites for the first time in years at Nana’s house on a remote island. At midnight, Nana is found dead. When another body follows and the tide traps them on the island, the family realizes they must confront their darkest secrets or risk all being killed off one by one. Fans of Agatha Christie will gulp up this propulsive read, that moves even faster via the mesmerizing audio. Highly recommend!

I think the challenge for all thriller/mystery/suspense writers is constantly keeping readers engaged with "the big twist". There's constant pressure to keep the twists fresh and unexpected, and Alice Feeney always delivers. I'm keeping this spoiler free, but let me just say I definitely didn't see it coming, and it was epic! Because this is the audio version, I wasn't able to flip back and see how I missed it, and if i would have been able to piece it together at all, but I will definitely be grabbing a text or digital version and doing some rereading. Bravo, Alice Feeney and your diabolical mind!

Thanks so much for the opportunity to listen early -- The narration is fantastic, perfectly paced with just the right level of suspense and drama!

An estranged family gather on an island to celebrate the 80th birthday of their patriarch, Nana. The tidal island is inaccessible when the tide rolls in for 8 hours every day. Cue the creepy music. As the family members arrive each come loaded with secrets. All of them find themselves in danger when Nana turns up dead 💀 at the stroke of midnight.

That is all I am going to say about the plot because the less you know the better the story will be. Trust me! This pays homage to Agatha Christie in the best way. I was left reeling by the end and enjoyed every minute of the ride. Fenney’s best book to date.

The narration of the audiobook was excellent and added so much to the story

Daisy Darker pays homage to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. This thriller explores strained familial relationships, lies, secrets, and betrayal. Daisy Darker was one of my most anticipated thriller reads this summer. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me. This is an extremely slow burn story. I guessed a big twist pretty early on so I couldn’t enjoy it as much. I should have DNF’ed it early on but I ended up finishing because I was hoping I would be wrong. I didn’t mind the unlikable characters which adds to the flair of a remote island locked room mystery. I ended up rating this two stars.

Man, this book made me grateful to be an only child. This family is… a lot. Great twists, as we’ve come to expect from this author. I loved the moody setting, hated the characters — the perfect combination for this kind of book. There were twists I had figured out and others I didn’t see coming.

This book did house one of my personal pet peeves, though: repeating something to ensure its picked up on. I’m pretty sure the fact that the 15-year-old character “looked so young because she was wearing pink pajamas” is mentioned 3+ times. We get it.. But, the story is engrossing from the start and pulls together nicely at the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for the advanced copy. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to review this one!

Daisy Darker is Alice Feeney’s fifth novel; and you can feel it through the pages how she has grown as a writer; everyone loved her first book Sometimes I Lie….and then each one that has followed has been met with such mixed reaction; I know this book will be the same way, but my personal opinion is that this is her best one since the debut….the character development is incredibly good, and the setting of Seaglass, this old Victorian mansion plays such a great part in the story, and she has written it to perfection.

The novel revolves around a family reunion for the Darkers gathering to celebrate Nana’s 80th birthday on Halloween and at the stroke of midnight, Nana is found dead…..and slowly one by one so is more of the family……

Big twists are revealed; and I personally loved them. It will have some haters, I’m sure. But. Screw them 😂😝😍

Daisy Darker was born with a broken heart. Not expected to live to adulthood and because of this she watched her two sisters go places, do things, she could not. Her one consolation was she became her Nonna's favorite, spending the most time at Sea Glass, located on the Cornish coast. Her Nona's house was inaccessible when the tide came in, but Daisy thought it a magical place. The house contained 80 clocks and on the hour, they all chimed. Daisy Darker's family was dysfunctional, with a capital D and when the family gathered at Sea Glass for Nonna's birthday, this would prove deadly.

Bought into this one hook, line and sinker. Never sure where this was going nor where it would it would land. A terrific thriller and locked house mystery. Secrets. Greed. Surprises, a little something for everyone. Plus, the audio was stellar, made it even creepier, I think hearing those rhymes in voice. And who can resist a house named Sea Glass?

ARC review - expected publication 8/30/22

This is my second Alice Feeney book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first. She does the “locked room” trope so well.

Daisy Darker tells the story of a dysfunctional family gathering for the matriarchs 80th birthday and what they correctly assume will be the reading of the will.

While this causes fighting and discontent it’s really just the start of the story as the clock strikes midnight the grandma is going murdered! (Not a spoiler, it’s in the blurb)

The family must attempt to put their animosity aside to survive the night.

This all takes place in the unique setting of Seaglass, a gothic mansion that sits on a tidal basin and only accessible during low tide which is still hours away.

Feeney does a great job of making Seaglass feel like it’s a character in itself without adding supernatural elements.
(The physical book apparently contains blue prints for the house instead of a traditional map which I think is really cool.)

The vibe throughout the whole story was great and we get glimpses of the family’s past which helps bring the story together.

Stephanie Racine, returns as narrator for Alice Feeney and does a fantastic job with the timing and story beats.

Big thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with a chance to get in on this book early. I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

While character development seemed to be a bit lacking for me there’s no doubt Alice Feeney is the queen of the twist. This book is very And Then There Were None and while I had one of the major twists figured out very early on it didn’t detract from the story. I still wanted to know “who done it”. It also lagged a bit in the middle, but I will defiantly be recommending it to friends.

Thanks to to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

Alice Feeney is one of my favorite authors! I’ve been looking forward to this one for a long time and was SO thriller to get an advanced listening copy. I never, in a million years, would have guessed the big twists, and that is why this author is so wonderful. She is a master of creating such unexpecting and creative twists. Daisy Darker was a great combination of past and present in a locked room thriller. The dysfunctional family has some huge secrets that ultimately lead them to their doom. The ending, as I said, was so unexpected, I still can’t stop thinking of it! I listened to this as an audio and loved the performance of the narrator, Stephanie Racine.

The biggest thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Alice Feeney for allowing me to listen to this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.
