I love Alice Feeney. She's so talented. I loved all the creative points in this book. There are very few books in the world that I'd read twice, but after listening to this on audiobook, I purchased it in hardcover to read again. This is the perfect fall/halloween read. I absolutely adored this book.
Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney is a thrilling novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story follows the life of Daisy, who is an investigative reporter who is investigating a series of murders. Alice Feeney is an amazing writer. She kept me hooked with the first page! There is a lot of twists and turns in the book and it really kept me guessing until the very end. I haven't read a lot of books about television journalism so this was a great book that gave me a glimpse of the cut-throat nature of the industry.
Overall, Daisy Darker is a fantastic read! I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good mystery with a healthy dose of psychological suspense.
I've enjoyed Alice Feeney's previous books and this one was no different. The plot hooks you right from the beginning. A dysfunctional family travels to a tiny island to attend a grandmother's birthday party. When a family member is murdered, fingers are pointed in every direction. They're stuck on the island for the night due to the weather - who will survive?
Very Agatha Christie in the best way possible. I wouldn't say there was anything super unique about the book but the writing is good, the plot is interesting and makes it hard to put the book down. It has all of the qualities of a great thriller so it's a great recommendation.
I can't believe I am giving an Alice Feeney book 2.5 stars, but it is what it is. For the most part, I found the whole story extremely monotonous. Despite the eerily atmospheric setting and lyrical writing, I found myself bored with the events going on for the majority of the book.
I was hoping to at least be wowed by a few classic Feeney twists, but nope, except for the final reveal I pretty much guessed everything.
I had such high hopes for Daisy Darker, but it was a HUGE disappointment! Hopefully we'll get a better next book.
The narration was pretty good, an easy 4 stars and I think the reason I managed to finish it within a week was because it was a very well narrated audio.
Daisy Darker is the best book I have read by author Alice Feeney and, overall, probably one of the best mysteries I have ever read. I constantly kept guessing and was shocked by the ending. I'm looking forward to what this author will create next.
This one starts out a little slow, but stick with it! It’s a mystery about a dysfunctional family that has gathered to celebrate the grandma’s birthday. But, they become trapped there and slowly, one by one they get picked off 👀
I am a huge fan of this author, so naturally picked this up. The book started out dark and just got darker, which was perfect read for the mood I was in. The characters and their back stories were so well written. Thank you so much for an advanced copy of this book.
Fans of Lucy Foley and Ruth Ware will enjoy this "stuck in the home" mystery involving family drama and "And Then There Were None" style murder rhymes.
In the spirit of complete honesty, this book took me quite awhile to get into. I’d start it and then put it off. But, once I finally hit that 25% mark I was sucked in. While the ending in some ways really surprised me (but felt a tiny bit rushed) it was a beautiful, dark end to the story. Family is a fickle thing and love is more than blood. I think my favorite part(s) were the poems. So eerie, clever, and they were quite telling.
Thank you for this free audio copy in exchange for my honest review. This was pretty good, not great. Why was I eye-rolling during this one?? Maybe it's a personal issue and I distaste this trope; I don't really know since this was my first experience with an "and then there were none" plot. I literally vacillated pretty aggressively between total intrigue with my ear glued to my headphones and open-mouthed scoffing and eye rolling. Like due to the plot line/trope, you expect that everyone will just keep disappearing. Because of that, I couldn't get that invested in the characters or their motives, knowing that someone was scamming the rest of them. I don't know. It could be me. But I will say, another aspect that was cool, but quite tiresome and redundant by the end was the poetry/rhymes interwoven to go along with each death. Cool at first, but they lost their luster by the end of the book. I don't know if this is an author that is quite right for me.
I think Alice Feeney has the best twists. I was so confused during Rock, Paper, Scissors that I had to stop listening to figure out what was going on. And while this twist wasn’t quite that severe, I never once questioned things and I listened to the first half of the book twice. (I stopped halfway through when I got busy and when I went back, I knew I might not remember all of the beginning.) And I am pretty sure the trail was all there.
When I first started listening and got the And Then There Were None vibes, I was so excited as that one made me a thriller lover. As people start to die at Nana’s birthday party, there wasn’t a person I didn’t suspect and while I can claim I was partially correct in my thoughts of what was going on, I only hit the tip of the iceberg. This one was full of red herrings and kept me guessing until the end.
While not quite as good as the original, this one pays great homage to Ms. Christie. I cannot wait to see what the author has up her sleeve for her next book.

OK this one dragged a bit in the middle but it's gotta be one of my favorite twists of the year. How fun! I loved the atmosphere, the locked room mystery, and how much the book did with so few characters. I loved how evil everyone was and how clever the book was with clues. It felt like one of those books that was possible to figure out, but always just out of reach. Great for people looking for a good Knives Out follow-up.
I can always count on author Alice Feeney to deliver a story that keeps me turning pages, and sets the atmospheric tone, and DAISY DARKER was just what I’d hoped for.
Beatrice Darker has hopes of reuniting her family once again by inviting them to her 80th birthday party at her crumbling gothic home on a tiny tidal island. Cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours, DAISY DARKER is a nod to Agatha Christie’s closed room mysteries, and I loved it!
The audiobook was fantastic, narrated by Stephanie Racine, and it really heightened the tension and suspense as the secrets and dark twists unfold.

This was such a twisty book that kept me on my toes! The narrator did a great job voicing both male and female characters. This family was obviously female dominated, but it was interesting to see the dynamic between the different characters.
Alice Fenney does not miss. Reviewed in full on my Insta https://www.instagram.com/p/ChZ1MQHrhAs/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link.
I thoroughly enjoyed the latest from excellent author Alice Feeney. It is very Agatha Christy-esque and I love that about it. Very atmospheric and extremely well narrated. I felt like I was on the island living every second of this uber suspenseful engaging book. Highly recommend to all that want a twisty, fun read.
I typically love Alice Feenet books and find her to be incredible with crafting suspense.. I loved the narrator of this audiobook and found the voice to be very pleasant but the story itself to be slow moving. More of a “domestic suspense” than a fast moving plot, this one sent my favorite from her!
What a wonderful, fast-paced, twisty read….I love this author and she has written another amazing thriller! Thank you!
One by one Daisy Darker's family member start dying. Her grandmother is the first to die after they gather to celebrate her birthday! Great plot twist you won't see coming!

Where to begin with Daisy Darker? I have struggled with a review because I have so much to say, yet no words.
I am a huge Feeney fan, and I feel each book is better than the previous one, but Daisy Darker feels like a true masterpiece. It reads like a crafted work of blood, sweat, tears, joy, and soul. Just go read it for yourself, I urge you.
First off - THERE IS A MAAAAAAPPPPPP!!!!!
And if that is not enough... The characters leap through the page, and each one feels like a real person; their authenticity is an empath's dream. I can't picture things when I read, but I always get in the mind of the characters and relate to what they emote - my heart, body and soul went on a rollercoaster ride reading this. I don't think there was a single emotion I didn't feel - Joy, Disgust, Happiness, Love, Sorrow, Anger, Frustration, Envy, Pain, Happiness, Freedom... You name it, and you will find it vividly on the page. By the end of the book, I was cathartically shedding tender tears of release in the best possible way.
I will be honest, I have my favourite authors, and I shamelessly hype their books because I think they are that great. As you guessed, Feeney is one of those authors, but I promise you all my review is honest and pretty accurate. I have listened to the audiobook and read the book with my eyeballs, and I honestly feel that if you can, experience both. Feeney's prose is enticing and envelopes you on its own, and Stephanie Racine's narration is E-VER-Y-THIN-G. She gets the story and honours it with her pacing, emotion, and narrative choices. I hope Racine will always narrate Feeney's books. Theirs is a great partnership.
I am an avid Christie fan, and as such, critical of works inspired by / compared to her stories (or at least marketed as such). Daisy Darker is undoubtedly the best, most original, well-written, beautiful homage to And Then There Were None I have ever read. Daisy Darker is not only just as good as ATTWN, but it's also its contemporary counterpart... With a hint of another one of my Christie favourites - The Crooked House. The Darkers' family dynamics are as complicated and interesting as The Leonides'.
There I said it. And I dared say it because it is true. Please prove me wrong if you can.
TL;DR: The plotting is impeccable, the characters are vivid, and the puzzle is intricate and fair. Daisy Darker is a contemporary mystery classic. Read it - and listen to it.
p.s. I loved the creepy "poem" just as much as Feeney's rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle little star in her debut novel. If she ever writes a creepy Mother Goose-esque illustrated book, I will be the first to buy it!
