Another fantastic book by Daniel Hurst The Accident was an addictive read, I would normally give 5 stars but for this one I gave 4 because of the characters, they seemed really flat and un emotional.
This is an emotional, tense, psychological thriller and had me hooked from the first chapter. We learn that Carl and Jo are having an affair and Jo gives him an ultimatum to tell wife or their relationship is over, Carl has an extra drink for courage and Jo tells him not drive as she realises he is over the limit. At the same time Anni is on the phone to her ex husband and doesn’t realise that her seven year old son Tobi’s balloon has blown away and he runs into the road after it. Carl is subsequently jailed for Tobi’s death. Anni is completely devastated by his death and really hates Carl for causing it. She eventually returns to her work as a teacher to try and move on with her life and befriends a new work colleague who turns out to be Jo. Jo tries to ignore the friendship but gets drawn into Anni’s life. Little does Anni know that Jo is keeping a secret that is linked to the accident but soon becomes suspicious. As Anni delves into Jo’s past will she discover the horrifying truth? The story is mainly told from Carl, Jo and Anni’s points of view. I have enjoyed this author’s previous books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. A brilliant read and I look forward to his next book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubaror Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I really wanted to like this thriller but it fell short for me: unfortunately the characters were a bit flat and not something I enjoyed.
I always enjoy this authors books and this one was no exception. The Accident involves the death of a child. The plot was not what I expected but made for intriguing reading. I find this book hard to review without giving away spoilers. I thought about this book for days after finishing it.
This book just made me sad. I guess I’m a sap in that way and that I want there to be some redeeming qualities in the characters I care about. I didn’t find that in this book and I felt the ending the ending One big cliché. This could’ve gone in so many different in interesting Directions which makes it even sadder.
A horrible tragedy, a drunk driver, the death of a little boy, and wrongful imprisonment make for a strong plot in this thriller. The book slows down a bit in the middle but ends with a twist that is quite satisfying.
I found this a really gripping read due to the well written plot and well developed characters. Found it hard to put down. Highly recommended.
This was a quintessential psychological thriller. Unexpected twists and turns, fairly fast-paced, and a gripping ending. Highly recommend for anyone who is a fan of Hurst or this genre in general.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a difficult subject. I dread to think what I would do if my son were run over and killed by a drunk driver. A well-written book, suspenseful with plenty of twists and turns. A recommended read.
Absoultely amazing book!!!the twist, and turns just keep coming....love love the book :)Brilliant book one of the best ones yet !!!!!!
I should have known not to read this one based off the synopsis. It’s similar to the Netflix show with the two best friends who met a brief counselling etc. I didn’t like the show and couldn’t get into it and feel the same way here.
⭐⭐⭐.5/5🌟
I enjoyed this book but not as much as i expected!
Maybe I had high expectations for it... I don't know.
The book was a bit slow in the middle but towards the end it really catched the pace which i enjoyed reading.
The ending was really a surprise... I mean I thought it was all over but i guess not. The only character i didn't liked was the reporter Alex, although towards the end, the author tried to show a good side of him- i didn't liked him.
Anni was a tough one- she went through a lot throughout the book and i sympathise with her. On the other hand, I guess Jo too had her fair amount of troubles and challenges she had to face.
I would conclude that it was a good one time read.
I loved this book and I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a copy to read. I for sure want to add this to my collection when it comes out!
I really enjoyed this book but it wasn't as thrilling as other books I have read recently. I feel like some parts of it fell a little flat.

The Accident by Daniel Hurst
Every mother's nightmare!
Single mother Anni is walking with her young son Tobi when he suddenly pulls away and runs off. The unthinkable happens next and Anni is left to grieve her loss.
She truly mourns and we learn who drove the car, and we are able to read the story from different points of view.
I loved the fact the story was told from different people.
I liked learning about Carl and Jo and how they thought and felt, along with Anni.
I kept reading and finished the book quickly because I needed to know what would happen next.
The author writes these books well, they are easy to read with short quick chapters that make it hard to put the book down. Just one more chapter turns into five or the entire book.
I really liked the countdown at the beginning of the book, it was a good start.
So I would recommend the book to people who like thrillers, something that is quick to read and a nice way to get into the character's heads.
4**** stars
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This was such a good thriller! It kept me guessing and intrigued the whole time! The characters were likable and well developed. I would definitely recommend this to everyone!
This story follows single mom Anni who would do anything for her son Tobi but when Tobi is hit and killed by a drunk driver, Carl her world crumbles and is devoted to making sure Carl gets what he deserves. Eventually Anni makes a new friend named Jo, and soon discovers that Jo is connected to the accident in ways she could have never imagined.
This book has an interesting premise and it did have me hooked at the beginning, but it was a bit too slow moving for my personal taste. I feel like there was a lack of information in a lot of areas. I didn’t really find myself motivated to turn the pages because it didn’t keep me thrilled and wanting answers, as we already knew a lot of what happened from the start. This wasn’t at all a bad novel, but it isn’t one that is going to keep me thinking for awhile after.
My first read by this author, The Accident follows a single, forty-year-old mum, Anni who hates Carl for what he’s done. Carl, a drunk driver, knocked down and killed Anni's son, Tobi, age seven. Carl is jailed and as Anni tries to get on with her life she unexpectedly makes a new friend called Jo. But is Jo all that she appears to be?
Told from different viewpoints this was an enjoyable read with an unexpected twisty ending. The loss and grief displayed by Anni were well done and Daniel Hurst's writing has great depth.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Inkubator Books via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
I don't usually read scenes involving injury to children (so if that's not for you either maybe give this one a miss) but the scene -if not the aftermath -was brief and the book did pull me in.
Annis little boy Tobi runs out in the street chasing a balloon and is hit by a drunk driver.
The driver Carl goes to prison for killing Tobi.
The storyline will keep you guessing til the very end with all the twists and turns.
Dark thriller that had you hooked from the off. The book was very well written. Great plot. Very exciting. Fast paced to get your heart racing. Loved this book
