ove this authors books, he has such a unique way of telling a story that makes every book fascinating, his writing is clear, easy to delve into and become immersed in and involves good characters, ordinary folk who end up in extraordinary situations
The Accident stays with this well done formula and we meet 3 people who are left bereft after an accident kills one of their children and we follow the consequences of this and how there lives become entangled, the more they try to avoid that the more involved they get
Lots of twists and turns and a great ending, well a pre ending that surprised me leading to the finale that again was a shock, brilliantly done
I can only recommend this author and this book as like all previous books I have read by him it is pure reading pleasure

Every book by this author is a twisting, turning ride of words. Just when you think you see what will happen next, the whole complete opposite happens. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. The conclusion to this emotional book was astounding. This book is a must read for those who like a book with surprises.

This was a very easy read, the type that you sail through unaware of the time passing until suddenly you realise it's the early hours of the morning and you're reading the epilogue. The subject matter, however, was far from easy. The death of a young boy at the hands of an over the limit driver causes ripples throughout the community. Ripples that are more like a tidal wave the boy's bereaved mother as well as the guilty parties. The story does seem a little far fetched in places but the twists at the end were well worth overlooking that. It leaves the reader wondering, was justice served. A great book by an author whose back catalogue I will be looking at.

Was absolutely engrossed in this book, so much so I finished it in one day!! Such a good read, with lots of twists and an ending that wasn’t expected. I need to know what happened next!

The story starts with the tragic death of a young boy and then it goes backwards to half an hour before, with Anni and her young son Toby and Carl sitting in a pub with his mistress Jo, then it goes to ten mins before and five minutes before and then impact. Anni is walking home with her 7 year old son Tobi, when he runs ahead of her to catch his balloon. Anni rounds the corner to find her son lying on the ground, having been hit by a car and the man responsible standing with his head in his hands.

The story then jumps forward six months after this tragedy, to Carl in prison and Anni devastated but returning to work in a primary school, the same one that Jo surprisingly finds herself newly employed in.
As a reader we have the full details behind the car accident and what really happened, the only one that doesn't know is Anni and Jo and Carl are determined that she never finds out.

What follows is at times over the top, the lengths Jo goes to keep this secret but at the same time using Anni to help her and keeping her close as a friend. Only someone really twisted would actually do that to someone they know they have hurt beyond repair.
I hated the response of her boss who should have been on Anni's side, when she said what she said to the reporter about her sons killer. Yes she has to think about the students and the school but realistically how does she expect a mother to feel about the man who killed her son! If a teacher at my kids school said something like that, I wouldn't think they were justifying violence and be worried about what they are teaching my child, I would be sympathetic to the hell this mother has been through and think she's totally justified in saying whatever she wants about the man who killed her seven year old child, by getting behind the wheel of his car whilst drunk!

So this book has many emotions, good and bad and based on three characters, it was more than enough to tell the story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just for a second - her son managed to let go of her hand to catch his balloon. Wheat she see’s when she runs round the corner after him, will forever stay in her mind and change her life! The story then goes to 6 months later. We also hear the story from the driver. 📕 I really enjoyed this book. Having not read this author before, I was hoping I would like it. It did not disappoint!! Loved the way we heard the story from several characters in the book. It was written in a way that there was no confusion for me (I suffer badly with brain fog!). You will get a pleasant surprise with this book! It will keep you on your toes. Ending was a bit like ….. oh right, I didn’t think the ending was quite yet lol!! Thank you for allowing me to read this ARC.

Wow!!! I devoured this book in one sitting. Just read it....you will love it. This Author writes amazing books and I recommend you read them all.

What a great book with a truly unique story! I'm so glad I recently discovered Daniel Hurst. A sweet little boy is hit by a car and killed. But who was driving the car, and what caused the accident? These are questions you will enjoy finding the answers to as you read. I spent the good part of yesterday in bed with my Kindle, because I just couldn't quit reading it.

And I can safely promise that you won't see the end coming.

Speaking of the end, there was a preview of Mr. Hurst's next book, "The Passenger", and I am so eager to read it, too.

This book was extremely predictable until the last 2 chapters. And then the plot twist came out of nowhere and made the entire read worth it! Stick with it, it gets good!

The Accident is a mesmerizing read. The story begins with Carl and Jo at a pub. They met by chance and he has been having an affair with her since. Promising to leave his wife for her, Jo gets impatient and presses Carl to tell his wife he is leaving her today. Carl and Jo have been drinking but Carl has had to much being forced to talk to his wife before he is ready. Jo says that Carl has had to much to drink and forces him to let her drive. Anni and Tobi are walking home from a birthday party. She lets go of Tobi's hand and he darts into the street. As luck would have it Jo can't stop the car in time and the child dies.

We pick up the story after Carl has served six months of his sentence in prison with Jo making visits to him. Carl took the blame for driving drunk and is serving his time. Jo gets a new job working at a school, but unfortunately Anni is working there also. Try as she might to avoid Anni, fate keeps throwing her in Anni's path. Jo lies to Anni about not being able to drive, her boyfriend and other things. But Anni trying to be friendly won't leave Jo alone.

Carl gets beat up badly several times ending up in the hospital, and finally gets transferred to another prison. Anni take Jo there so she can see her boyfriend. A reporter lets it slip that Carl is at the same prison she brought her friend to. But he also discloses that Jo is Carl's lady friend.

The story takes a surprising turn but which of the three of them will find the peace they long for.

This was a quick afternoon read. This was a train wreck I couldn't stop watching. With each chapter I kept thinking it can't be happening. The shocking ending took me by surprise as the twist was something I didn't see coming.

The Accident is about a little boy Tobi who gets hit by a drunk driver while walking home from a birthday party with his mom Anni. The driver, Carl, is sent to prison for 5 years. While Anni is struggling with her grief she finally returns to work and befriends the new substitute teacher Jo. Jo just happens to have been Carl's mistress and also has a greater secret connected to the death of Anni's son. Jo knows who Anni is from the moment she lays eyes on her and struggles with keeping her secrets from her. Throughout the novel told by Anni, Carl, and Jo there are twists and turns to find out what each person is hiding.

This was a good quick read however, I do not personally feel like it was much of a psychological thriller. I felt like there were not many turns and the end was pretty predictable. However, the book did keep my attention from beginning to end and I would recommend for an easy read!

But Jo has a secret. She is connected to the fatal accident in a way that Anni never suspects.

Each chapter is told from one of the characters perspectives in an alternating sequence. We read what could happen if the victim and the perpetrator met each other. I was invested in the storyline even though it seemed to take a bit of a dip in the middle. The ending, I never really seen it coming until it was about to unfold. This was my first read by the author but it won't be my last.

I have read several of Daniel's books and enjoyed them all and this was no exception. Although a tough storyline involving the death of a child it was very well written and I certainly didn't expect the ending. I highly recommend this book and author.

Anni had spent the afternoon at a party with her son Tobi. Walking home she is distracted by a phone call. for a split second she lets go of Tobi. Then suddenly he's gone. A tragic accident and her precious little boy is dead.

Carl has been in the pub. He's now serving a sentence for killing Tobi while under the influence.

As Anni starts to rebuild her life she goes back to her old job. Here she befriends the new woman Jo. A perfect friend. Someone who doesn't know her past so won't pity her. However, Jo has her own secrets and is shocked to find herself working with Anni. How will Anni cope when she discovers who Jo is!

This book gripped me. How, one choice destroyed the lives of all involved. How, the death of a child impacts everyone.

This was a very quick and easy read, though the main subject in the story is a rough one. Reading a book about a person who loses their child isn’t easy by any means, and I commend the author for taking on such a strong topic and running with it. I can’t imagine it was easy to write about this. That aside, I really enjoyed seeing the growth and the development of the characters throughout the book. There were a few instances in the book where I got a little angry seeing how Anni was treated while she was grieving her child. The ending was definitely not one I expected at all, but in my opinion, it worked. I do not feel as though this book should be listed as a psychological thriller, as it doesn’t seem to fit the standard image. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. Anni is walking back from a birthday party with her son Tobi, and Tobi's balloon gets away from him and he chases after it.

Sadly, Tobi is knocked over and killed by a speeding car. Carl, the owner of the car is sent to prison.

Anni is understandably devastated and eventually after six months, returns to work as a teacher.

Carl's partner, Jo, applies for work at the same school as Anni, and does her best to avoid Anni's attempts to become friends.

Anni realises something is amiss when she finds out that Jo has been lying to her, and starts investigating why.

The story is told from three points of view, Carl, Jo and Anni, and there are no great twists, because the reader is told exactly what happened, it was only Anni who was in the dark about the truth.

As books go, I did enjoy this, and there was a good ending which I did not expect.

I did not feel that there was much remorse from the guilty parties, for what they had done, leaving a Mother bereft and grieving.

However, this was a quick and easy read.

I enjoyed reading about the dilemma of one of the main characters in this psychological thriller, of whether or not to reveal the truth behind the car accident that killed a young boy. Jo's interaction with Anni, the mother of the boy killed, is one of the suspenseful aspects of the novel.

However, I had mixed feelings about the ending, although it revealed the true emotions of a character that found strength in the unusual.

What a great read, a convincing story told very well, an interesting set of charecters and an ending I didn't see coming at all

Great book, tough subject choice. I did enjoy it however harrowing the storyline.
I've read this author before and she did not disappoint this time.
