This engaging contemporary romance stars lawyer Louisa "Lulu" Malone and Dex MacLean.
Louisa has been working very hard to fulfill her parents' expectations for her. Seventy hours a week isn't enough to secure her a partnership in the law firm where she works. She finally realizes this while taking an afternoon off by visiting a Renaissance Fair and her phone keeps beeping with messages demanding results she can't deliver.
A phone call from her demanding boss is the final straw. She quits her job and throws her phone into the Laundry Wenches washtub.
Luckily, she is welcomed into the world of Renaissance Fairs and soon becomes part of the Dueling Kilts company. The lead singer is Dex MacLean who is the Casanova of all the fairs his group visits. Lulu is attracted but also determined not to become one of his conquests.
Dex has been happy with his life. Traveling from fair to fair with his brother and cousins, playing his guitar, and loving all the ladies has been enough for him - until he meets Lulu who isn't immediately felled by his charms.
As they travel together for the summer, the pair become closer and fall in love. But fall looks to bring their separation. Lulu wants to work as a lawyer - though not for the huge, soul-destroying company where she worked before - and Dex wants to stay with the fairs and play his music. It looks like sorrow for the both of them until they find a compromise.
This story had a great setting and great characters. This is the fourth book in the series that began with Well Met (2019). It stands alone quite well, but characters from earlier stories do appear in this one.
A work trip and stress relief leads Louisa to a renaissance fair where a virtual encounter with her boss causes her to snap. She ditches her technology and runs away with the ren fair for the summer where she teams up with a touring Scottish band with one very attractive man in a kilt, Dex. As Louisa dons her nickname of Lulu she reconnects with herself and finds love in the peace and calm of the summer.
I have read every book in this series and I think each one is better than the last. Escaping to the Ren Fair in each book is delightful with immersive settings and a characters that feel like family. I love the found family in this book, the new ren fair characters, and of course the steaminess.
I've enjoyed Jen DeLuca's 'Well Met' series so much and this book was no exception. I was looking forward to Dex's story and I was thrilled to find out he was being paired with Mitch's attorney cousin Lulu.
I love a good opposites attract story and that's exactly what these two appeared to be. But it turned out they were more alike in some ways than they could have imagined. After doing the first spontaneous thing she's ever done, Lulu has quit her job and is tagging along with the Dueling Kilts for the summer.
Lulu has a lot to learn about herself. I loved that this was just as much a tale of self discovery as it was a romance. Dex and Lulu start off as just friends. Dex has a reputation as a ladies man and a good time, but that's not all he is. Lulu saw past the surface to the real Dex. I loved how these two just got each other and were able to make it work among the most unlikely circumstances.
It was so much fun to see the cast of characters that I loved from previous books and the whole Faire atmosphere is just a blast. Overall I truly enjoyed this one! I'm not sure if it's the last of the series or not, but if DeLuca keeps writing them, I'll keep reading them!
I loved going back to the Faire life.
This book was so enjoyable. I really liked following along with Lulu as she rediscovered herself after impulsively quitting her job. I loved seeing her tag along with the Faire and really emerge herself in the life.
The relationship between Lulu and Dex was slow to build, but when it happened it was so sweet and steamy. I liked that the struggles they dealt with were not ones of miscommunication but actual situations that were a bit more challenging to overcome.
Basically another enjoyable read in this series and would def recommend.
This was fun as all of the books in this series have been (except for the second one) but um, where was the romance??? This was most definitely a character study of our female MC, which was still fun but the romance between her and Dex felt so forced. I didn't feel any chemistry between them at all. The first 50% of this book doesn't even have romance and all of a sudden they're making out and falling in love. It was written well and as always I enjoyed the Ren faire setting but don't go into this one expecting a romance or you'll be disappointed.
Have you ever had the fantasy of telling your boss to take this job and shove it? Then, you can start your life anew by doing something completely different. Jen Deluca has written out this fantasy in her latest rom-com and it is exactly as wonderful as you would imagine. I hated for it to end and look forward to whatever she has in store for us in the future.
I absolutely adore this series. I have loved every book and every couple and character. It always feels like coming home and I just love that! I recommend this entire series frequently and can't wait to tell people to read this one as well. I had so much fun reading it and really related to Louisa's journey (and would love to run away to the faire as well...)
I always love these books! They are cute and tend to have deeper meanings beyond the surface of the story. This one tackles following your heart and moving into the future.
Lulu was a fun character. I found it a little hard to imagine a accomplished lawyer just dropping everything and selling huge Turkey legs at a Ren Faire…but I don’t read these books for believability, I read it for the cute romances and fun banter.
I was excited to be reunited with some familiar characters from previous books and love how the author is able to continue stories in this way while building new ones.
If you enjoyed the first books in this series you will be pleased with this one!
"The Renaissance Faire is on the move, and Lulu and Dex are along for the ride, in the next utterly charming rom-com from Jen DeLuca.
A high-powered attorney from a success-oriented family, Louisa "Lulu" Malone lives to work, and everything seems to be going right, until the day she realizes it's all wrong. Lulu's cousin Mitch introduced her to the world of Renaissance Faires, and when she spies one at a time just when she needs an escape, she leaps into the welcoming environment of turkey legs, taverns, and tarot readers. The only drawback? Dex MacLean: a guitarist with a killer smile, the Casanova of the Faire...and her traveling companion for the summer.
Dex has never had to work for much in his life, and why should he? Touring with his brothers as The Dueling Kilts is going great, and he always finds a woman at every Faire. But when Lulu proves indifferent to his many plaid charms and a shake-up threatens the fate of the band, Dex must confront something he never has before: his future.
Forced to spend days and nights together on the road, Lulu's interest in the kilted bad boy grows as he shows her a side of himself no one else has seen. The stresses of her old lifestyle fade away as she learns to trust her intuition and follow her heart instead of her head. But when her time on the road is over, will Lulu go with her gut, or are she and Dex destined for separate paths?"
I love anything Ren Faire, and I would totally see The Dueling Kilts if they came to my faire.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for providing me with advanced electronic copy of this book in return for my honest review!

When I reached the end of Well Matched, I assumed that was the end of my Faire days because Well Met was a trilogy, right? WRONG! I was so excited to see this show up on NetGalley, and I immediately requested and was THRILLED when my request was granted! Now, this book isn't about a summer in Willow Creek, which initially threw me a little, but you will be happy to know that if you loved the first three books in this series, you will love this one too. I absolutely did. If you have ever wondered exactly what it was you were doing you with your life, wished you could just put it all aside and go on a grand adventure, and yearned to follow that voice inside your heart, this book is for you. No spoilers...but I think we know that this is the kind of book where a HEA is bound to happen.
Like most romance series, you don’t necessarily need to read them in order, but in this case I think it would make a slight difference in your enjoyment of this book. If you have read this series you will enjoy this one just as much as the others.
I just adored Lulu! Her character development was great, going from a stressed out lawyer always at the beck and call of her partners, to someone who is following her bliss. She is such a different person by the end of the book. Although she does remain a realist through out, she becomes much more relaxed and grounded with the help of the friends she makes at the faire. I loved the development of her relationship with Dex as well. She knows, or at least thinks she does, that he is as he presents himself. But as she gets to know him, she finds that there is way more to him than she could have imagined.
I know I say this alot about romance novels that are only told through one point of view, but in this case I really really wished we could have seen what was going on in Dex’s head. He is a character that has shown up in every book, and he is always presented as a carefree, lothario with a girl at every faire. But as we get to know him through Lulu, you can tell that there is a lot more going on behind that pretty face. I didn’t like him very much after Well Played, but he certainly grew on me in this book, and I was happy when the two of them were able to work things out in the end.
There were some new characters in this book that I certainly hope we see more of in future books, if there are any of those. The three ladies who tell fortunes at the fair were wonderful. They were all different from each other, but they welcomed Lulu into their lives and I think influenced her the most throughout the book.
Because this doesn’t take place at the Willow Creek Faire we get to see how a larger Renaissance Faire works and some different acts. The descriptions of the different fairs that Lulu attends were so well done, that I often felt like I was there walking around with Lulu. The descriptions of the small camper that Lulu and Dex end up sharing was also well done, especially the shower scene.
This was a great addition to this series. If you like romance that is well done with a steamy and swoon worthy romance, than you really should pick up the first book, Well Met. Like I said you don’t have to start with the first one though. If this one sounds more like your cup of tea than I think you will enjoy it without having read the others.
I received a digital advance copy of Well Traveled by Jen DeLuca via NetGalley. Well Traveled is scheduled for release on December 6, 2022.
Well Traveled follows Lulu, a high-powered attorney working toward making partner. This is the fourth book in the Well Met series (Lulu is Mitch’s cousin). While visiting a Renaissance Faire, Lulu realizes she is on the wrong path and reacts in a manner that earns her the status of legend at the faire. She ends up abandoning her job and traveling with the Dueling Kilts until they meet reach Mitch. The journey is more than physical travel for her. Lulu is finding her way to where she belongs in both her career and personal life.
Of the four main characters in this series, Lulu resonated most with me. While DeLuca always gives her heroines more to deal with than just their love lives, Lulu’s life outside of romance hit me the most. She has jumped off of her “life path” with no idea which way to head next. Throughout the novel, we watch her try new things and really assess what fits her best. The characters around her were a bit less clear, and for me, the love interest in this novel (Dex) was the least well developed of the men in the series.
This may be largely due to my thoughts on Lulu’s situation, but in this novel the personal journey of the main character overshadowed the romance. I did not find this to be a problem, but readers looking for the romance might feel it isn’t enough of a focus. (They might also have a different read of the story and feel that it is the focus!)
Overall, Well Traveled is a satisfying addition to a fun series. While it seemed less focused on the romance (in my read of the story) than the other novels, it still made me want to run off and join my own Renaissance Faire.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Jen DeLuca can do no wrong! Well Traveled is yet another perfect addition to the Well Met series and the perfect escape from reality. We're transported back to ren fest, this time to travel with the Dueling Kilts and one lawyer desperately in need of her own escape. The question is, is the hunk in the kilt more than just that? Steamy, smart, and sassy, I picked up Well Traveled and didn't put it down until the very last page, when do we get the next one!?
Can this book just be my life? Please? I have read every book in this series and I have loved them all. This one is just as amazing as all the others. I love these characters so much. Dex, is the ultimate swoon worthy playboy. LuLu, I adore you and your strength. However, I think LuLu's kilt loving Grandma stole the show on this one. Can we please have a spin off with Grandma?
I also loved the author's dedication (to herself) and her sweet acknowledgement at the end mentioning bookstagrammers. We love you back, Jen!
Another great installment in the Willow Creek / Renaissance Faire series that Jen DeLuca has created. This newest addition follows Lulu Malone and Dex MacLean, whom you’ll remember from appearances in prior books. This was an interesting mix of slow build romance and taking stock of one’s life and finding yourself/ purpose.
I found Lulu’s journey yo be an interesting one, and probably something we all wish we could try occasionally. I enjoyed the pairing of her and Dex and was really happy for him to get a shot at being seen and grow too. Lulu’s progress and journey was definitely the focus, so we didn’t really get the same insight into Dex’s experience which I would have enjoyed seeing as well.
Overall, a fun, quick escapist read and a great way to take your own mini vacation from life. I’ll continue to read any of Jen DeLuca’s books, they never fail to give me a nice book-cation getaway and leave me smiling.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Romance for the opportunity to read an early copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
I love this series! I think the setting of renaissance fairs is so fun. I appreciate that we got to see some background characters get their own book .
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC! The Well Met series continues with Well Traveled. This time the love interest is Dex, the bad boy musican, but main character lawyer Louisa (Lulu) Malone sees more in him than his bad reputation,
Entertaining and romantic realistic fiction! I love the meet cute storyline in a Renaissance fair. The pace was a bit slow at first. I liked the tarot card information, but I felt like it is a big part of the story and info dump in the middle.
The connection to the prior book was a little important. It is still a stand alone but might benefit from some backstory on the connections. I enjoyed the romances, the funny Renaissance fair subplots and the dialogues.
This book ticked all the right boxes for me. From romance, to fun and loving main characters to the cozy and hallmark witty story. I loved it so much!! Definitely it was a full 5 stars read for me
I love this whole series so much! If you love Ren Faires (like me), then this is such a unique setting for a romcom. Every book in this series is light and meaningful at the same time. I did feel like this wasn’t my favorite of the sequels. I felt like we didn’t see Dex and Lulu talking or developing feelings it was just told to us. They jumped from attracted to love VERY quickly because of this. That’s why it’s only 4 stars for me, but I still really enjoyed the book and highly recommend it!
