I don't know what I thought I was reading but it wasn't what I expected. I thought this would be a typical paranormal romance but its actually a story about friendship and if the title didn't give it away it's based on the concept of the sitcom Friends ie Mates. I will freely admit it took me a while to cop it.
While it was different to what I had in mind, I did find it enjoyable. The characters are likeable, and if you are a fan of the sitcom you will definitely like this.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Book review :
This Urban Fantasy has a lot more depth, diversity, character development, and action, combined with unique World building, leading to an overall enjoyable story. It’s a fantastic and very addictive and entertaining read.
This is a story of a witch, Minerva who’s spells go wrong every time. She practices hard and has plenty of power. No one can figure out what goes wrong. She really wants to be a guardian and if she can't figure it out the problem she will never be one. Her brother ,Clark is talented but stuck in a job that wastes his talents. Her friends cast as a vampire or villian every time .
Then enters Roxana who is running from her wedding . Can these friends keep her hidden and safe or will they lose their lives in the attempt.
The author has well penned the characters and the storyline keeps you engrossed. Each time I was wondering about Minerva , will she be able to do this time?
I liked reading this book and would recommend this book to all.
Happy Reading!

A great story about friendship, finding one's voice and a bit of romance. This is a part of a series that you will want to read each book for character development and backstories.
Woah, talk about a cliffhanger! This book certainly sets you up with a rich and dynamic world, but I am totally left wanting more!
While the book is called "Minerva" it really revolves around an amazing group of misfits. We hop through multiple POVs to see things sometimes overlapping from multiple angles, sometimes filling in the blanks, sometimes learning about new characters. All in all, this world is insane. Minerva is what amounts to a supernatural cop, aiming for supernatural special ops. Unfortunately for her, she's got some issues doing magic. In this world all the supernaturals blend with humans, but are still "in the closet." They police themselves (hence the "cops") but it only works so well.
Minerva's big challenge comes in the form of a friend she lost touch with - Roxana. She's a dragon shifter who can't shift, but is set to marry a man she can't stand. She runs away and somehow runs straight into Minerva's life, complete with friends. It's really those friends that shine throughout this book. We have vampires, demons, witches, werewolves, and all manner in between. They work together for the good of each other, sometimes to a fault. It was really great to watch them all grow and adapt, but we are certainly left wanting at the end. I can't wait to see what happens next for this crew!
Friends meets the magical world of Harry Potter in this new series by Bridget E. Baker. Minerva is a witch whose spells go wrong. . She practices hard and has plenty of power. No one can figure out what goes wrong. She really wants to be a Guardian and if she can’t figure out the problem she will never be one. Her brother Clark is talented but stuck in a job that wastes his talents. Minerva’s friends Izaak and Xander are a wanna be actor/vampire type cast as the villain every time and a werewolf body guard who are roommates and hall mates of Minerva. Living next door is Bevin, demon-spawn and running a magical second hand shop.
Into their lives drops Minerva’s finishing school friend and dragona princess Roxana. Roxana is running away from her wedding to a Russian dragona prince who is basically a barbarian thug. Can the friends keep her hidden and safe or will they lose their lives in the attempt?
A great read, and magical rom-com fantasy perfect for reader’s advisory. Fans of Lilith Saintcrow and Kevin Hearn will love this series.
Loved it! The book was sweet and so much fun I just couldn't put it down until I turned the last page.
Once I got the reference to one of the best tv shows ever made and started looking at the story not as an urban fantasy, but as a fantasy sitcom! The characters are great and, although I expected this one to be more about Minerva, I loved the way we got to know all her friends in depth.
The pace was fabulous, never a dull moment in sight. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I’ve never read this author before, but I’m definitely delighted that I have discovered her. This book was not at all what I was expecting, but it was a ton of fun. I expected more of a mystery, but what I got was a fun-filled book with great characters, a look at how we can all grow and learn, and the best way to be your friend’s friend. I was a little bit thrown off by all the differing points of few, but when I got used to that, I couldn’t imagine the book any way else. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book to see what happens next in this zany adventure. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
