I am a huge CJ Tudor fan and went into this blindly not realizing this was a set of short stories opposed to one full story. Short stories are normally not my thing but “ A Sliver of Darkness” may just be the exception. I enjoyed each one! I will read anything C. J. Tudor writes!

Each story was a bit supernatural with a touch of horror, darkness and overall creepy vibes. My personal favorite was "The Final Course". I cannot wait to see what C.J. Tudor comes out with next! 4 stars!

A big thank you to Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book, I was thrilled when I received a widget.

I was trying to save this for spooky season but I couldnt wait any longer and I am so glad I didn't!! I am not usually a short story person but I heard horror and C.J. Tudor and I was in. This is a collection of 11 short horror stories and none of them disappoint. Each story had its own dark feeling that gave you the feeling that you need to keep looking around you when you were reading. I think my favorite of the stories was End of the Liner. Probably because of the pandemic like feel to it in which I could relate. I highly recommend anything by Tudor and this is included! Perfect for a night out camping or a night in a creepy cabin and most definitely for spooky season.

Absolutely amazing collection of horror stories. I actually read this book in a couple of hours and plan on reading it again. I found myself in gross in some of the original content. Absolutely perfect for short story lovers!

I really loved this book! I am a huge CJ Tudor fan, and while I am wanting a full-blown novel, these short stories were so satisfying. Each short story was different and spooky in its own way. For example.... think creepy abandoned building with some type of human-eating alien thing in it. And a cruise ship that you can never leave. And the unfortunate fate of being named "Ted". AND a creepy musician who literally didn't want the love of his life to get away.

I would have loved for some of these stories to be longer, but I still really loved this. Horror fans, check this out!

A very strong 4 star!

Thank you to Ballantine Books and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is my first C.J. Tudor novel, and I don't read a lot of short stories so I had low expectations going in. I was very touched by the author's first introduction, and loved how each story has an additional intro to tell us the frame of mind for each story. I found myself really enjoying all of the stories and I really want Tudor to expand on more of them because I need a feature length novel.

My favorite short story was "Runaway Blues," which Tudor says in her intro is her ode to Stephen King. I definitely got the "shiver" that she promised!

I also really liked "End of the Liner" and "Final Course." I felt myself really immersed in the dystopian worlds Tudor created and would love to learn more about how we got to these points.

These and each of the other short stories had a great balance of making me a little chilled, a little unnerved, and definitely wanting to go and read the rest of C.J. Tudor's back list.

Great collection of stories by an author I have come to follow. I have enjoyed all the books so far and this is the first short stories I've read by them. Very good

I am usually not drawn to collections of short stories. But C.J. Tudor’s “ A Sliver of Darkness” became the exception.
The first story, “End of the Liner” deals with people on a cruise ship that are told all of the land on earth is contaminated. Also once you reach a certain old age it’s walk the plank time.
Runaway Blues is a visit to a macabre possessive love story. A man teaches his lover that doesn’t take kindly to her leaving him. He then takes steps to make sure she will never runaway again.
Butterfly Island where butterflies can be such beautiful creatures. Except the ones on this island are more creature than beautiful.
Dare to venture out of your comfort zone, enter into the dark streets and alleyways of C.J. Tudor’s imagination. Experience the twists and turns, the darkness and evil in all 11 short stories. You won’t be sorry but your journey will definitely be a scary one.

Ahh this book of short stories was so good! Creepy, thriller stories are right up my alley. I loved how the author explained her real life events in the beginning of the book.

Thanks to Netgalley I recieved this book early to review. I've loved all of her books so I jumped on it. This was such a great collection of short stories, I wish she would do more. Each one unique, bone chilling, and fantastically written. I definitely got Stephen King vibes from many of the stories. I can't give anything but 5 stars to any of CJ Tudor's work, so I wasn't surprised I felt the same about this book. She is an incredible story teller, and knows just how to have you looking behind you long after you are done her books.

I've read and loved all of C.J. Tudor's books, but didn't really know what to expect from a short story collection. This was great! Many of the stories reminded me of my favorite show, The Twilight Zone, and some previous characters even make appearances. I loved the introductions about the inspiration behind the stories.

Wow just wow!
What a beautiful collection of stories. The fact that C.J. Tudor was able to write this during one of the hardest times of her life speaks volumes about her work. I enjoyed all of these. I’m convinced C.J. Tudor can write from any point of view and make it believable. I also loved how ever story had their own introduction. It was so fascinating to learn where each idea for each story came from. I’ve said this over and over again but I will read anything she puts out. Just brilliant. I still have goosebumps thinking about End of the Liner. That one was by far my favorite story out of the bunch. What a way to start this book off.
4/5 Stars

I have read everything that Tudor has written and consider her to be one of my very favorite horror authors. This compilation of short stories is deliciously dark and oh so twisted. The author gives a short intro to each story explaining the inspiration behind each tale. In typical Tudor fashion, each story is more gory than the next. I gave this a 4.5 rating. I only wish there were more stories! I enjoyed them all so much!

This was absolutely great! I had some time to kill before leaving the house and didn't want to get invested in a whole book so thought best thing to do was try this one as it had some short stories. I'm usually not into a collection of short stories but I love this author and thought I would give it a try and was totally sucked in! One story turned into two which turned into three...and yes I was late leaving my house!

Each one was unique and what I really liked is how the author mixed current events along with a mix of supernatural/horror and blended both together so well they were kinda terrifying!

Each story starts off with a bit of background on what gave the author the idea of the short story and I thought that was a really good touch.

Just to give a sample of which ones I really liked( I really liked them all though!):

End of Liner was awesome and sad at the same time! I also liked the hidden meanings in regards to something "mouse" related. Totally made me chuckle each time

The Block reminded me of Stranger Things but that could be I was reading as my husband was watching it?!

Runaway Blues had a really good vibe but I got confused :(

I'm Not Ted and Final Course: Totally loved!!!!!!!

All in all they were all excellent and each had a unique tone. This author has come to be one of my favorites and each book seems to get better then the last! Each story had a menacing type tone but with a bit of dark humor in them that just made every one so captivating to read.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for the chance to read this advanced copy.

From one of my personal favorites comes a collection of spooky short stories!

Each short story has its own personality: some are creepy, others are tense, some others are spine-tingling intense—there are plenty of “flavors” here to meet the needs of all Tudor fans!

I also enjoyed the introduction to each story where the author gave some backstory, thinking and insight. It was like having a conversation with an author of immense talent one on one. I enjoyed hearing her voice directly as she explained what went in to each short.

Each story here is strong on its own and while there are some that are STARS every story is entertaining and fully engaging. As a super fan of Tudor’s I did long for a full length offering but can honestly say that this collection was not disappointing! Vivid, full-bodied, and fully engrossing, I highly recommend this collection to readers who want great stories, regardless of the length!

4.5⭐️ rounded up.

My favorite book growing up was "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and this book of short stories was right up my alley. C.J. Tudor was already one of my favorite authors before this book and the introduction to every short story explaining Tudor's thought process throughout was my favorite part. "End of Liner" was the best in my opinion, and I will never think of taking a cruise in the same way.

If you love smart horror stories with a little Stephen King flair, then this is the book for you, Each story was just the right length and the endings kept you wanting more. Im sure each of these short stories can be expanded in the future as well, and if they do, I will be the first person to read them.

I’m a huge fan of the author. The way she blends mysteries and thrillers with supernatural really works for me. So much so that it’s pure name recognition by now. I see a new book by Tudor – I want it. Don’t need to read the description; why, I don’t even check the page count, which is highly unusual for me.
And so, this turned out to be something of a surprise. A thoroughly pleasant one at that. A collection of short stories that definitely skew more toward the author’s horrific side.
I loved these stories. Loved this collection. It’s exactly the sort of dark demented literary scary psychological thrills I’m after in my reading…and in my writing. Even the introductions for each story are perfect – at least for readers like me who are fascinated by where ideas come from and how creative juices flow.
So good, so creepy, so twisted. Enjoy the darkness, there’s more than a sliver to be found within these pages.
Overall, a terrific read. Recommended. Thanks Netgalley.

Excellent collection of stories with a few nice twists thrown in. I had an idea where the End of the Liner was going but still enjoyed it. Really enjoyed The Copy Shop and Butterfly Island

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Years and years ago, a friend recommended Chuck Palahniuk to me, specifically his book of short stories called Haunted. To this day, some of those stories - sorry for the pun - haunt me. But until I read A Sliver of Darkness, I have mostly stayed away from anthologies of short stories. They don’t do it for me. Except for A Sliver of Darkness. I have spent the last two days with these stories and can’t stop thinking of them. I have been a fan of C.J. Tudor since the beginning, but my appreciation for her writing has grown tenfold after these handful of short stories. They’re all so good, each with a unique voice of their own. Some are sultry, some are spooky, some will give you chills and make you think. They were all brilliant in their own right. I highly recommend reading this.

I couldn't wait to read these stories! I'm such a big fan of C.J. Tudor and A Sliver of Darkness did not disappoint! Each story has a quick little intro on what inspired it, which I loved. Some stories were chilling, some creepy, some made me laugh but they were all just terrific!

I was a little apprehensive when I saw that CJ Tudors’ upcoming release was a collection of short stories as I have a love/hate relationship with them and always feel they end too abruptly. I am thrilled to say this was an exception- every story is brilliant. I really enjoyed the authors introduction to each story. She has mentioned her admiration for Stephen King several times but this collection is as good as anything he has written imo. Anyone who can make butterflies creepy is a must read author.
This is available for pre-order now and due for publication November 8,2022. Thank you to #netgalley and #randomhouse for the advanced e-copy on exchange for my honest opinion.
