Kiersten Modglin doesn’t disappoint! The premise of this one is a group of friends that grew up together and now live on the same cul de sac are invited for dinner by their mysterious new neighbor.
Obviously, this being Kiersten Modglin, there are many unexpected twists and exposed secrets.

Kiersten Modglin is my new obsession. I can’t get enough of her books and The Dinner Guests did not disappoint.

When new neighbors move into the ritzy neighborhood where three best friends and their families live, there is intrigue and gossip about who they are. They’ve built a privacy wall around the house and nobody can catch a glimpse of these new neighbors. Imagine their surprise when they receive invitations to a dinner party.

This is no run of the mill dinner party, however. Secrets will be exposed, lies will be revealed and a general sense of doom will hover. As is usual for Ms. Modglin, there are unexpected twists that will keep you enthralled throughout. For all of you psychological thriller fans out there, pick this one up. Preferably start it when you have a free day ahead of you because it’s tough to put down.

I’m giving this a well-earned five stars! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC, this is my honest review

"When a group of friends receives unexpected invitations to a dinner party, they see it as a chance to finally meet the bizarre and reclusive new neighbor whose home is enshrouded in layers of security.
As the drinks are poured and dinner is served, the group begins to realize things are not what they seem. What starts out as an innocent night of fun soon becomes a seemingly calculated game filled with cryptic messages and chilling revelations."

Do you enjoy murder mystery dinners? Do you enjoy escape rooms?
Then this book is for you.
The story is told through the voices of the five main characters. Together they share a big secret that they've been protecting since high school, but as the story unfolds we learn that they separately have secrets as well.
This is a fun, fast paced story that I didn't want to put down - I just had to know what was happening. In true Kiersten Modglin fashion there were twists and turns throughout the story to keep the reader engaged. Another great read for the beach or sitting poolside.

⭐⭐⭐💫 (3.5)

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audiobook.

Kiersten Modglin is an auto buy author for me. She has an amazing way to write a book that grips you from the beginning. She is the queen of twists and "The Dinner Guests" is no exception. There are new neighbors and they host a party to get to know the rest of the neighborhood. But when they are finished, the discover that they're locked in the house. I flew through this one and loved the narrator. Highly recommend!

Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Six friends have been invited to dinner at their mysterious new neighbor’s home. Some of them have been best friends since they were children, how they pulled off getting homes in the same neighborhood is beyond me, but they did and their interest in their new neighbor has been piqued.

They gather and hope to enjoy their meal and hopefully make new friends with their neighbors. But something isn't quite right. Things feel off. This was not the evening they were expecting. When they make their excuses to leave, they find that they can't. There is a game they need to play. Their friendship and themselves will be trusted.

This was a fun fast paced read which was enjoyable from beginning to end. There were some parts where I had to suspend some disbelief a little. As the night plays out, readers learn more about the dinner guests, and some things we learn, well they are interesting.

I must admit that I was all over the place with trying to figure out how I wanted to rate this. This book started out on the strong side and as the book progressed, I went from enjoying it immensely to just liking it. So, I settled on a 3/3.5 rounded down.

This book was never dull, and it had a nice pace. This played out like one of those fun made for TV movies. It is entertaining, a whodunit of sorts, and drama galore as the secrets began to be exposed.

I listed to the audio book and thought it was very well done. I enjoyed the narrators and the story. This was a fun listen and I look forward to what the author writes next.

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook - the narrators are great, there are three different points of view from which the story is told, and there are enough questions and tension to keep me interested. The plot moved along nicely, giving glimpses into the past and events that led to the current circumstances for the dinner guests. The reveal at the end was a bit over the top for me, and the ending itself was pretty unbelievable. All in all, this is a good mystery and easy to listen to. Looking forward to the author’s next book!

I loved the narrators on this audio book.
This is one of my favorite authors because she always has unexpected twists. If you have never read her before, and enjoy psychological thrillers, most likely you will rate this higher than a 3. I rated this as a 3 because it's her least twisty book. I did enjoy this relatively short audio book. It just wasn't my favorite from this author.

What an intense ride it was through this audiobook! The story was gripping and didn't let go! Her stories are always fantastic and this one did not disappoint.

The audiobook was done great. I'd like to add that two of the narrators voices were great, and one just grated my nerves.

Wow. Kudos to the author. Went in thinking vampires or something supernatural. This book kept me on my toes and had me wanting to know how it ended!

A little bit of The Burbs meet Desperate Houswives.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an audio copy

Let me start by saying, I loved all of the narrators, however with 3 dueling POVs it was hard to track who was who and what was what. I struggled. The voices were similar enough that I constantly had to stop and figure out who was speaking.

The story is about a dinner party from Hell. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I saw a review previously that the reviewer was bored during the middle and I can 100% agree. As far as the MCs figuring out what was happening, I felt like there could have been much more excitement. PLUS, if all the characters shared a secret (except one) then I didn't understand why they couldn't talk about it openly if that would have helped them escape. Idk, I felt like it could have been scarier or more exciting than just lights going off and someone disappearing from the group.

The ending was slightly predictable. I didn't guess the full ending but I wasn't shocked when all was revealed.

The Dinner Guests was a pleasure to hear. Only my second audiobook, the pacing kept me engaged with the story. The three narrators tell this fast paced tale full of revelations and confessions from long ago. Six friends receive an invitation for dinner at the house of their new mysterious neighbors. Their strange dinner turns bizarre when they decide to leave. Given the excellent narration, I was able to form pictures of the characters, especially picturing their faces as they revealed long lost secrets.
The ending tied everything together and answered all my questions.
Many thanks to Kiersten Modglin, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for affording me the opportunity to hear an arc of this soon to be published book.

Nothing could seem more perfect than living in the same neighborhood as your best friends from childhood. Your spouses are best friends, your kids have grown up together and its the life you have always dreamed of...Until the day the moving trucks show up and new neighbors are coming to the neighborhood. Suddenly an invitation for dinner shows up and something just doesn't feel right. Going against all of their guts, they go and dinner and end up fighting for their lives. This was a good book, my idea about the twist was correct, but didn't change my overall thoughts on the book.

I have heard such great things about Kiersten Modglin and thought I would give this audiobook a try. I was really engaged throughout the novel, but you really have to suspend your belief for this book. I found the twists to be good with the exception of one. That twist was a little too far-fetched for me and sort of killed the book for me. I will still read Kiersten Modglin’s other novels as they are highly rated.

Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy to review. This one is hard for me to write a review for. I enjoyed the beginning, until they went to dinner. I figured out what was happening but it seemed like a strange concept to me. SPOILER ALERT: I don’t like reading about cheating. The end of the book seemed really cheesy. I thought the writing overall was good. I just didn’t care much for the whole storyline.

Five childhood friends who now live in a swanky suburb in their hometown of Poe notice that new neighbors have moved into the biggest house in the subdivision. When those neighbors invite the group to a dinner party, none of them expect that this mysterious new couple will try to kill them by the end of the night.

This book had a strong beginning - solid and not overly drawn out exposition, although it didn’t really need to rotate perspectives and give as much character background as it did. The middle was where it hit its stride: without giving too much away, it had an Escape Room meets I Know What You Did Last Summer vibe and really nailed the creepy, someone’s-watching-you atmosphere.

But the ending is where everything fell apart from me. You get the reveal of what happened - that big secret - in one big dump, then the ending sequence of events is so ludicrous that you have to severely suspend your disbelief in order to buy it. I just found it to be quite a sloppy way of resolving the story, and there were way too many plot holes.

This was a quick, locked room mystery. This author can’t seem to disappoint. I always pick up her books when I’m in need of a twisty thriller that is bingeworthy. This one was no different.

Excellent story and narrator but I found it hard to keep track of all the characters. Beyond that, this book is fun and creepy with lots happening. Interesting premise as well. I recommend it to those who love thrillers.

I loved this one! I listened to the audiobook which was entertaining. I loved the “escape room” vibes it gave and could not predict where it was going!

Six friends receive a dinner invitation to their new neighbors house whom they haven’t met. They are excited as its the perfect occasion to get to know these strange individuals. As the night progresses and dinner is served the group realizes that things aren’t what they seem.

Their hosts have disappeared and they are locked inside their house. They are forced to play their game; solve their riddles hoping it leads to freedom. Secrets that were thought to have been buried are released and that’s when it gets really good!
