This was a decent twisty, psychological thriller. I enjoyed the read. I found myself really wanting to know what happened. However, the main character, Isobel, just didn't do it for me. She was rather dull and her narration was too repetitive for my liking. I also wasn't a huge fan of the big twist at the end. It just didn't fully make sense to me. The motivation was lacking.

The New Neighbour by Miranda Rijks is a gripping psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. With its well-crafted suspense and intricate plot twists, this novel is a masterclass in tension and intrigue.
The story centers around the arrival of a mysterious new neighbor in a seemingly quiet and idyllic neighborhood. Rijks expertly builds an atmosphere of unease and suspicion, making the reader question the motives and secrets of each character. The protagonist's perspective is particularly compelling, as we see her initial curiosity turn into an all-consuming obsession that threatens to unravel her life.
Rijks' writing is sharp and evocative, drawing readers into the claustrophobic and increasingly tense environment. The pacing is impeccable, with each chapter ending on a note that compels you to keep reading. The narrative is filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have figured out what is happening, Rijks throws in another surprise that shifts the entire storyline.
Character development is another strong point of The New Neighbour. The characters are well-drawn and complex, each with their own hidden depths and motivations. The protagonist's descent into paranoia and the impact it has on her relationships is particularly well-executed, adding an emotional layer to the psychological tension. The interactions between neighbors are fraught with underlying tension, highlighting how little we often know about the people who live closest to us.
The themes of trust, betrayal, and the hidden darkness within ordinary lives are explored with a deft hand. Rijks' portrayal of the protagonist's inner turmoil and the gradual unraveling of her reality is both believable and chilling. The novel raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of truth and the facades people maintain.
In conclusion, The New Neighbour is a standout thriller that delivers on all fronts. Miranda Rijks has crafted a story that is not only suspenseful and unpredictable but also deeply engaging and thought-provoking. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller that will keep them hooked from start to finish. It's a compelling read that will linger in your mind long after you've turned the last page. I give it a solid 4/5 stars.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the ARC
I don't remember much about this book anymore since I'm reviewing it quite late, but I don't think that I disliked it. It was just another thriller that was okay, nothing relevant, but nothing bad either.

Well I didn’t see that coming. I was so focused the whole whole on one thing & was totally off based. Yikes.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a wonderful job with all the characters.

Unfortunately, this title archived before I was able to listen to this audio. Hopefully I will be able to borrow it from my library at some point in the future.

This book was ok. I found it to be a little suspenseful. I took issue with the main character Isobel. I didn't find her all that interesting.

this was creepy and pretty realistic. I did enjoy It but I had to skip some parts. it was a little slow in the beginning but I felt like it added to the suspense.

It was OK. I wouldn't say i was very intrigued, but i finished the book, To be honest i think this one is more of a cozy mystery, at least for me. 3.5 stars

This was a fast read, a neighborhood full of secrets disrupted by the newest arrival.. Interesting enough but nothing thought provoking or memorable

Twisty, thrilling and well-written - this is definitely a thriller author to watch! I gobbled this up like a box of Girl Scout cookies.

Isabel loves her home. It is a quiet road with a few large homes on the English countryside. But when there is a mysterious death of a young boy by a hit and run, it changes the whole feel of the neighborhood. So, when the new neighbor, Linette, moves in, Isobel decides to try and bring the neighbors back together. However, Linette is not who she says she is and secrets start to emerge.
This is a good read, but it really didn’t take off till toward the end of the book. I did enjoy the hunt for the killer but intensity is just not there till the end. I guess you can call this a slow burn novel. The characters and the mystery really keep you guessing. I figured it out at first, then changed my mind then went back to the original guess. I enjoy a book which does this!
I also love when there is a team of narrators. These two, Danielle Cohen and Chris Devon did an excellent job! I have always thought two narrators are much better than one. Just makes the story more real!

This is my first Miranda Rijks book, and I can already tell she is going into my authors-to-binge list. I loved how she delivered a well-plotted, tense, psychological thriller. I felt like a resident of The Close, watching everything unravel from the safety of my attic window while eating popcorn.
There were quite a few characters, but I felt I got to know them well. Listening to the audiobook, I felt Danielle Cohen and Chris Devon honoured the story's pacing and tension. Their narration was consistent and easy to follow.

A quaint neighborhood in the English countryside with secrets to hide... I found this to be a fun, suspenseful and thrilling read that held my interest from beginning to end. I will certainly be indulging in more Miranda Rijks books!

Good neighborhood thrilled. Fast paced and a twist at teh end.
Isobel Floyd has always enjoyed living at in The Close, a quiet community in the English countryside.
When a young man from the neighborhood gets killed in a hit and run accident, she starts to question herself and the neighborhood. The young man's family moves and a new neighbor arrives and thinks really heat up. Another death.
Lots of mystery and twists.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me with an audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book kept me wanting more! It starts real innocently with friendly, neighborly relationships but ends in total surprise. The story revolves around an unspoken tragedy that has a greater influence on the neighborhood than one could ever imagine. After the tragedy, "the new neighbor" moves in with LOTS of surprises! Any one who loves thrillers will enjoy the twist and turns of this story. I chose to listen to this book rather than read it, which made it easier for me to quench my thirst of wanting to know what would happen next!

This was a fun book that kept you guessing. Every time I thought I had it figured out it turned you another way. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

The New Neighbour was a classic thriller from start to finish! I don't usually listen to thrillers, as I prefer reading them (and staying up late to finish!), but I really enjoyed this one. It was an easy to figure out who done it, but it was written and narrated well. Definitely recommend!

A group of large houses line a quiet road in the plush English countryside- known as The Close. Add in a secret affair, a hit-and-run, a single woman joins the neighborhood, Alzheimer’s, a drone, a pet pig, nosy neighbors and now a murder… sounds like a good story to me. Everything in Isobel’s life is coming apart at the seams and there is not much she can do to stop it. A well- written psychological thriller with a main character (Isobel) that you can root for, even if she did some dumb things trying to solve the mystery herself.

What seems to be a typical suburban/close neighbors mystery, becomes a twisted knot of lies and unease as it progresses. While some might have seen the way it ended right away (which, reflecting back I could say I see the moments), I kept waiting for this whole murder to be an incredibly thought out and executed trick plan. I can't say that I like any of the characters all that much, which I think happens in suburban neighbor stories. Even the protagonist I wasn't all that much of a fan because she just couldn't accept that things were going wrong in her marriage. It was definitely unexpected at the end. The narrator was delightful to listen to and had a very calming voice even when things were quite hectic in the story.

Lynette is the new neighbor. She’s stirring up things in the neighborhood… because she wants to know what happened to her nephew who was killed.
This is a fairly solid story, but it does seem to drag. There are a few neighbors and Lynette is suspicious of all of them. I will say that I did figure out who the culprit was about midway through, but that it wasn’t glaringly obvious or anything. It really could have been any of them!
I’m giving this a 3 because I feel like it isn’t a truly memorable read, and I’ll likely forget it in a few weeks, without going back to look at the book jacket. I would recommend it, though, and will look for others by this author.
I did like the narrator, too.
