I love any version of Anne of Green Gables and this one did not disappoint. It kept true to the key themes but had fun modern twists. I will definitely recommend to young readers to either get more Anne feels or discover her for the first time!

I adored this graphic novel. Anne of Green Gables is a classic on my shelf and I have always loved the original story. Gros' take on the original was unique but stayed true to the overarching themes. I would recommend this to any graphic novel and Anne of Green Gables lovers!

Very loose adaptation, closer to an “inspired by” Anne of Green Gables YA graphic novel. The story lends itself quite well to this medium and the artwork was like its own character. I’m not sure the Anne of the books (and film adaptations) is quite jumping off the page here, which is a little disappointing, but this is a different Anne entirely. These adaptations live and die by how faithful they are to beloved source material, so while I don’t believe this will become a classic anytime soon, it’s enjoyable if a little bland for what it is.

I’ve a read a lot of Anne of Green Gables adaptations lately, and Anne is one of my favorites! This is sweet graphic novel is a modern take on the story that respects the original while adding its own flair. Marilla and Matthew live and work in an apartment complex that Diana and few more of Anne’s new classmates live in, and it’s a super fun setup. Also, this gives us the Diana/Anne romance that so many people want, and it’s very sweet. It has all those awkward and tender middle school romance moments and I loved them. Anne’s sexuality is never a big a deal, and the few conversations she does have about it really warmed my heart.

The artwork in this was super cute. I really loved looking at Anne’s outfits because they were so fun and colorful. Everyone was drawn to be so likable which I loved. Ultimately the art just added to the likability of these characters and this story. It was super fun and I would definitely add it our library.

I loved Gros' Jo and I was excited to see this retelling.

I found this retelling to be filled of diversity and devoured this book. I would recommend this book to fans of Gros previous work or Anne of Green Gables.

Just no... I don't often complain about things being modernized but this just went too far I think. Plus the copy I received cut off at a weird point and would never load further.

I loved this book. It still felt like the Anne we knew, but set in a more modern time. All of the school issues still felt relevant and that kids will relate to Anne.

This was an adorable modern retelling of Anne of Green Gables. I loved the recharacterization of Anne. I loved her relationship with Matthew and Marilla. Her romance with Diane was adorable. Just a really cute graphic novel. Will definitely be purchasing this for my library.

Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books ever and it has such good potential for queer retellings, so I'm always hoping to find the perfect book to fill that void. I was hoping this would be it, but unfortunately found that it missed the mark for me.

This book follows Anne, a foster child whose new foster family is two siblings who run the Avon-Lea apartment complex. There, she meets Diana and they become fast friends. As Anne navigates starting at a new school, joining the zine club, and conflict with a boy named Gilbert over a school project, she also begins to struggle with her feelings for Diana.

I didn't like the art style at all, but I think the biggest issue in this for me is that to call it an Anne of Green Gables retelling is a bit of a stretch. It loses so much of Anne's character, of the tone and ideas of the original, of the family dynamics among the Cuthberts and Anne that are so key to the original, and honestly just doesn't capture the spirit or much of the story. Even Diana and Anne's relationship feels less real and important in this than in the original novel. Honestly, it almost feels like a dumbed-down version of Anne of Green Gables—it loses so much of the complexity and emotion of the original novel.

Beyond my adaptation issues, however, it was a relatively enjoyable story in its own right. I really enjoyed Anne's developing friendship with Diana, and later her growing feelings for her. I also liked seeing her interact with the zine club and learn to express herself in that way. There's also a fun Gilbert plotline. I know I would have loved having this graphic novel available to me when I was a young queer girl in middle-school (even though I would've been even more of a pedant then about the quality of the adaptation).

Overall, I did enjoy this book. I'll keep holding out for the queer Anne of Green Gables retelling of my dreams, but I'm very grateful that adaptations like this exist today. Though I have issues with its quality as an adaptation, its art style, and I wish that Marilla and Matthew had played more of a role, I think that the Anne and Diana relationship is handled very well. I'm giving this book 3.5/5 stars, and I would happily recommend it to any middle-grade readers, particularly if they already enjoy Anne of Green Gables.

I love this adaption of Anne! I’ve read the author’s other classic ‘(Sort of)’ graphic novel and this one was even better. Anne Shirley is one of my favorite classic heroines and her personality was so sweetly captured in this modern, fresh style of her story. I will definitely be adding a physical copy to my wishlist!

As a long-time fan of Anne of Green Gables, I have been enjoying all of the retellings that have been coming out. I thoroughly enjoyed this rendition as well. Anne's story, as told by Gros, felt real and relevant. Working with middle school students every day, I feel as though they would be able to identify with the characters in the story and understand where they are coming from. This is so vital for connecting kids with books.

LGBTQ+ Anne of Green Gables?!?🏳️‍🌈🥰❤️

I adored this graphic novel! I know the story of Anne inside and out and appreciated that the bones of the story and many scenes were included in this retelling. The best part is definitely Anne and Diana being together and slowly going from friends to dating. I enjoyed Anne doing her zines as a hobby—PERFECT for a modern day Anne. Anne’s personality shines through the whole neighborhood novel—and it was great to see her anger explored and her relationship with Gilbert looking differently and then having a great conversation about his behavior!


Solid 4.5 ⭐️ definitely going to pick up a copy for my class’s growing lgbtq library 📚

I really loved this graphic novel adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. My only complaint is that it ended too soon! I felt like there could have been so much more to Anne's story. We will definitely be purchasing a copy for the library and recommending it to our patrons.

If you love the nostalgia of the source material, you will love this updated take on Anne of Green Gables. I loved seeing the journal entries at the end of each chapter. The art work is super cute! I am excited to pick this up and share it with my daughter, when she's old enough.

I thought this was such a cute graphic novel. I love reading different contemporary adaptations of Anne of Green Gables. This one is different because this is a queer version. I love the idea of Anne falling for Diana instead of Gilbert. I also love how she writes and draws in a journal and I love the relationship she has with the Cuthberts. While reading it I pick up on the different scenes that are similar to the original.

A charming modern adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Kathleen Gros delivered the sweet queer crush story that many readers secretly wished for when they read the original books! I would love to see this turned into a series.
