I really thought I would enjoy this book. However, there were multiple times where the word choices were offensive. Derogatory words are used towards those dealing with mental health issues as well as those using the R word. I feel that those choices ruined the book for me.
When I first started reading this I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. I really disliked some of the side characters and it confirmed my fears about renting places online. I remained unsure throughout the book but did find myself continuing to turn the pages because I needed to find out what happened next. Give it a try if you like college romance stories. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thought and opinions are my own.
I did not enjoy this book. Felt very uncomfortable reading and I did not enjoy the male character.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This book should really have had a sensitivity reader. And you're probably thinking isn't it just a cowboy romance? Why would it need that?
The book starts with an offensive racial comment towards an Indigenous character that is barley mentioned again, its littered with insensitive comments about mental health and ends with the main character professing her love and then calling herself the r-word. The lack of awareness from everyone that read and approved the book until this point is astounding.
This could have been a decent romance novel but I can't even wrap my head around the story because I'm too irritated that anyone would think that was okay.
I made it 46% in and gave up after all the slut-shaming. Based on other reviews, it sounds like there’s racist and other derogatory language later on, so I’m glad I stopped reading. The characters are truly awful to each other and not enjoyable to read about. This book really could’ve used a sensitivity reader and I’m surprised it was printed as-is in 2022.
This book had so much potential in terms of the plot and cover. However the author used several unnecessary slurs and I found myself being unable to finish it. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the approved ARC.

This review is entirely my opinion. Please ignore if you don't agree.
Firstly, this book cannot be compared to The Flatshare and The Hating Game. The men in those stories were wonderful and Buck is completely different.
Basically, this story feels like a nightmare cowboy frat house, where the inconsiderate members use derogatory terms to label people, like, 'hippies' and have no idea what consent is.
I'm sorry but I won't be posting this review on any platform. Probably for the best.
Thanks to Water's Edge Publishing, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Randi is a complicated person - she suffers from acute anxiety, is a little anti-social. has a tragic past and is a workaholic. So when she realises that the quiet cabin she was planning to live in during college is basically a party house, she freaks out a little.
One of her housemates, Buck, is drawn to her even though she's prickly. He likes her work ethic and her obsession with health and fitness, and he absolutely loves the old lady dresses that she wears. He likes that she's different.
It takes a little while for this relationship to get off the ground and there were points in this story when Randi seemed to take reticence a little too far. But despite the fact that she described herself as unlikable, I did like her. I thought the chemistry between her and Buck was great and I really liked Buck as a character, even though he went too easy on some of Randi's other housemates.
In fact, the only thing I didn't like about the book was the other characters. Angie was too much of a villain stereotype to be believable. I did not really understand Randi's friendship with Daisy. Sarah was a difficult character to get a handle on - too changeable. I would have liked to see some more humanity in the other women in the book.
Otherwise, this was an enjoyable read.
I DNFed this book unfortunately. It had some really poor choice racial words used, and as soon as I saw that I didn’t want to finish. Personally I cannot support a book that uses derogatory verbiage like this.
**i received a copy from NetGalley**
I got this ARC from NetGalley.
When I saw the cover of this book I was hit request copy so fast. It is just to cute. Unfortunately it ends there. I think this book had lots of potential but there was many times when I found myself wishing it was over. I didn't like that there was some comments that made me uncomfortable.
I didn't like any of the characters in the book. So it was very hard to push through. You had girls hating each other before any drama started. The main character seems a bit stuck up to me and the main man try to hard to be "country" for me.
* Received a copy for review.*
This book may be the worst I’ve read this year. The characters were silly and flat. There were words that are unacceptable. I struggled to get through it.
As much as I wanted to love this book based on the synopsis, I just could not get into it. I DNF’d it at 25%. The writing felt stilted. The main characters were frustrating. And I just couldn’t do it.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, however, I feel like some things were rushed. Randi is definitely introverted with several non-social tendencies, these are not really explained into well into the book, also, several of these issues she has seem to just disappear. It is mentioned in the book summary and at least one time in the Buck POVs that this is going to be a fake relationship book, but that never comes to fruition. I feel like the book needs more editing before it is really ready to be released.
The book was okay, but I was very put off by the feel of attack on mental health and race. The authors choice of words should have been better. Also needs TW.
This book was so bad, I hated the writing style. It felt like I was being told things instead of shown them. There were also a few weird race comments and the author also used the r word which was not necessary.
I received an arc through netgalley.
Thank you for letting me read this book that had
me laughing out loud with all their banter. A wound up pretty tight antisocial college girl Randy Becker needed a quiet room to do her schoolwork. Unfortunately the place she reserved a boisterous house on campus. That's where she meets a cowboy who all the girl like. His name is Buck is almost polar opposite of Randy. But when Buck decides to use Randy as a decoy secret crush, just to get some rest from the constant girls that like him. But will Randy be more than he bargained for? This book was a great summer romantic read for me.
Firstly, I’d like to say how much I adore this cover! It’s so lovely and I couldn’t stop staring at it while reading the book.
Secondly—this book! I was nervous because this has been an anticipated read of mine but I had no reason to be. I enjoyed the main characters and their relationships. Anna does such a beautiful job curating these endearing and wonderful characters with seemingly real personalities and ambitions. I absolutely busted out laughing so many times! This book was so fun, witty and honest!
Am definitely going to recommend this to all my peers.
