The final Beckett cousin was such a surprise!! As much as I wanted to read Nash’s story I was also dreading his exhausting mansplaining.
Nash’s relationship with Chelle was basically perfection. I loved how they brought out the best in each other and though there were quite a few bumps in the road, nothing felt insurmountable.
This series was so much fun!
This was such a fun and entertaining read. Nash and Chelle's story was a delight to read. It made me laugh out loud, it kept a smile on my face and at times it was hot and steamy. I thought that the two of them were a perfect match. As they begin to explore their fake relationship with the six dates and get to know each other better their story became so much more. From the moment I began reading this book I could not put it down. I fell in love with their story and all the characters. Before I knew it their story was over and it just left me wanting more. Great read from start to finish. Thanks NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Nash Beckett knows he’s going to win the Last Man Standing bet. While his cousins have fallen for their choices he plans to marry his choice, go on the dates and then divorce. But he wasn’t planning on Chelle.
Chelle has to marry in order to keep her foundation out of the hands of her greedy misogynistic Uncle. So when Nash proposes his plan she reluctantly agrees.
When they move in and Nash trying to move all her furniture, she puts him in his place. She’s exactly what he needs to keep his mansplaining ways in check.
Nash has a good heart but his mouth gets him in trouble. He plans to woo his wife though.
I love how supportive Nash was of Chelle’s writing even if he does go too far.
A fun, reverse age gap, marriage of convenience story with a happily ever after!
I received an arc for review, all opinions are my own and given freely.
Mansplainer is a refreshing romance with a curvy heroine and billionaire hero. The final book in the Last Man Standing series left a smile on my face.
Nash Beckett is the last cousin to participate in their late grandmother's challenge, to be the last man standing. He has to go on six dates with a woman without falling in love. That should be no problem for him and he is going to edit the rules a bit. He is getting married with a six-month expiration. Finding a woman shouldn't be that hard especially when his mom introduces him to Chelle Finch.
Chelle is a sassy and curvaceous woman who could easily be your best friend. She is kind-hearted and tells it like it is in the most genuine and sweet way. She is also a great writer but is too afraid to publish her work fearing that it isn't ready yet. Chelle is in charge of a foundation that is close to her heart. When that position is threatened by her annoying uncle and late father, she doesn't know what to do. The stipulation is that she has to get married to maintain her position. There's no way she will find a husband in that short amount of time.
When Nash and Chelle meet, they open up about their dilemmas. They agree to a marriage of convenience with the intention that it will be ending in divorce. It should be easy as peasy since he is a workaholic. But because of the holidays, Nash is planning to work from home most of the time they are married. I mean it's hard to stay away from each other and the sexual tension is so apparent.
They are so different and Nash has a habit of mansplaining. But as they are forced to be in each other's company almost 24/7 they begin to understand each other better and become more attracted to one another. When Nash proposes that they add sexual benefits to the list of their marriage, Chelle isn't sure. And when he sticks up for her and takes care of her on multiple occasions, it gives her the confidence to say yes.
Avery Flynn writes some steamy sex scenes and I loved them. I just enjoyed her writing so much because she gave us a really curvy woman who was confident in her skin. Sure any woman has doubts about their body but she knows her worth. I loved all the body positivity. And Nash's mansplaining was annoying in the beginning but when you get to know his heart you begin to see it differently. He just likes to help people so they don't have to go through pain or have to learn the hard way and Chelle really helps him deal with his mansplaining.
I give Mansplainer 4 stars. It's a great conclusion to such an entertaining series. Nash and Chelle are such a good couple to swoon over. I can always count on Avery Flynn for a feel-good romance.
Mansplainer is a great sweet summer read. It is the story of two very different individuals who somehow work great together. Nash, can come across as a know it all even though his intentions are just to be helpful. Chelle is a plus size woman who was raised in a household where the man provided and made all decisions, while the woman stayed at home cooking and cleaning. She refused to be that type of woman. She inherited a nonprofit that helps people but her uncle is threatening to take it away if she doesn't marry, per her father's will. Nash, made a bet with his cousins, that the last cousin not in love receives their grandmother's last present. Together they make the decision to marry but do not expect to want to stay married. I enjoyed how sweet they were but I would have enjoyed it even more if Chelle wouldn't have been stubborn for so long. At times, I found myself telling Chelle to stop being so hard on Nash. I feel that her stubbornness got a little frustrating at times. Overall, if you are looking for a great summer read, this is a must!
I enjoyed this book ! Beckett is the only single cousin so him and his cousins do a bet. He wants to marry someone so he wins the bet.
Chelle needs to get married so she can inherit so she can inherit her fathers charity.
So a marriage of convenience happens! This was super entertaining and funny. Oh and I also love that she’s the older one it’s always the male in books ! It’s nice that women can get younger men 😂
I thought that this book was steamy, sweet, funny and superbly swoon worthy. Beckett and Chelle had me enveloped in emotions, frolicking in the feels, relishing the romance and soaking in the sultry heat. This book was just plain fun! The story is cute, the characters loveable and the chemistry hot. It put a huge smile on my face and put some much-needed lightness in my heart.

This series has been so fun watching and experiencing these men fall, one by one for love. Each fella thought they had a handle on their life, no room for a serious love relationship. It took a challenge to remain loveless by Christmas and be the "winner" of their beloved grandmother's last Christmas gift.
A challenge was set; a bet, the gift given to the one who remained "loveless" by the next time they celebrate. Little did they realize, as always, that Grandma knew best.
Beckett is the last one standing and as the creator of the bet, feels he has a lock on this deal. When making the bet, he never mentioned any conditions of a marriage that would qualify for the necessary time needed to win...He has decided to do the "marriage of convenience" deal and then claims the win. He even announces that to his family during a meal.
Chelle Finch is living that saying of Rock and Hard Place. Her family's ideas of how a woman should behave, live her life, and should only marry is her challenge. She has been in charge of a charity for years, helping others, and making a difference. The time, it seems has come per her dead father and now icky uncle, to either marry or lose the charity she runs. See, Rock and Hard Place.
Due to some special fateful arranging, these two meet and become the answer to each's needs. The trick will be if they can co-exist and not kill each other. You see, Beckett, as the oldest of his family, developed this thing...always needing to fix what he sees as needing help...Mansplaining. He means well, and many of the things he suggests are real BUT they are not asked for...so annoying.
So with this "marriage", a condition for it to happen is for him to curb this thing he does.
This was so much fun, so hot, and also written to address this issue we, as women, experience ALL THE TIME. Oh, and in case you wanted to know, Grandma, DOES KNOW BEST.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this one for what seems like forever! It’s pub date kept getting pushed back, but I am so glad to have read it now! I loved that we had an older woman romance with this one. And sadly to say, Nash’s mansplaining had me laughing, even though I know how irritating it really is in real life. But honestly, he wasn’t doing it to be an ass, he really thought he was helping everyone. Basically his whole life he’d had to be the one helping everyone in his family, so it just tended to flow over into every other aspect of his life. However I loved the way that Chelle put him in his place. The way she stopped his mansplaining, the way she took charge in other ways that he was unaware he’d actually enjoy when it happened. I hated that she kept just assuming it was only for the bet and that they would go ahead and end their marriage as the original plan said. It was so obvious how much the two of them really did like each other and were better with each other in their lives.
I loved her dog names, especially Grouch Barks since I am a huge Marx Brothers fan. And I loved all the family that we knew from the last two books, as well as getting to know his family. the ending was perfect, the gift from their grandmother that the bet was over was a perfect fit for them as well. My fingers are crossed that based on little bits and pieces at the end of this story, the author is going to give us the stories of the younger cousins in this family.
I feel like I have waited forever for this book, but boy was it worth it. I have loved the other books in the Last Man Standing series, but I think I love Chelle and Nash best. This rom com dealt with the older woman, younger man genre, but more than that, neither one wanted a relationship. They just needed to be married for the last man standing bet, and to help Chelle not lose her foundation. This book made me smile. It was an easy read, but the plot was good, and it was very enjoyable. And a really great HEA.!
The story of Nash and Chelle, the third book in this series.
Nash agrees to a marriage to Chelle so she can keep her position at her family charity and he can date her. They think they can keep this separate from their feelings, but will it work out that way?
Great read, I loved how it was told from both points of view.
I hope there are books for the rest of the Beckett cousins next!
I wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, there is a problem at the inception that I just could not get past no matter how hard I tried. Nash is described as a Mansplainer (yup, the title of the book). At first, he seems like a classic know-it-all (notice, I did not say mansplainer). I totally accepted the title at the beginning while fully expecting him to grow and change or maybe the author would give a reason for why he is the way he is and she did. Sadly, the character continued to be called a mansplainer and it ended up feeling man-hating and cruel. Bottom line, that one constant in the story made it very difficult for me to love this book even though I have enjoyed the rest of the series.
Nash is a man in his mid-30s that has spent his whole life making sure everyone is taken care of. He makes sure his parents pay bills on time. He took care of his younger siblings even going so far as to attend recitals and sporting events. His job at Beckett Cosmetics is to tell people what to do and to fix things. His whole freaking character is about wanting to and needing to make sure things around him are working properly. All that said, Nash is actually very likable and almost childlike in his desire to help others. He is almost submissive in some ways in his relationship with Chelle. I think the most important thing about Nash is that he is willing to listen when people speak and he's willing to change if necessary. Chelle is a woman in her early 40s that has no intention of ever getting into a relationship. Unfortunately, she has a family that believes women should be married and making babies, and taking care of the home. Her uncle is kind of a sketch of men who think women shouldn't work out of the home but it works because I don't care even a smidgen about his background or his motivations. He's just a foil that pushes Chelle to act in certain ways. Chelle is an okay character. I feel like there was so much more that the author could have done with her. Of course, the Beckett cousins are all in the story. They actually add to the story in some nice ways. For example, Bristol actually calls Nash on his crap and they talk about it.
I like Avery Flynn's writing style and usually enjoy the stories very much. This book was a disappointment in part because it didn't live up to my expectations and I know that isn't totally fair. I'm giving the book 3 stars because it's part of the series and there are some nice moments. Bonus, it sets up the story for the next set of cousins to find love. I will read more book by this author in the future and I'm even looking forward to it.
It's the last Beckett Cousins, Nash Beckett to find love. I really enjoyed his and Chelle's fun story. I loved the ways Nash seduces his wife of convenience once he realise that's what he wants to do the moment they got married. I loved both of their characters too. They made me smile throughout the story. Definitely loved the curvy women rep in this one and I think Chelle was just amazing. I loved it.
This was refreshing, sweet, sexy, and funny. I loved Nash and Chelle together and I especially love that she is older. They brought out what they each needed in each other and the meddling and familiar characters from the past books only added to the fun.
I’ve read a lot of stories about bigger girls, but they’re always described as curvy with an hourglass figure. But bigger girls with other body shapes exist too! And this book was about one of them.
I loved Chelle as a character. She isn’t confident nor unsure about her figure, she just doesn’t really care. She’s been called fat by her family–toxic, isn’t it?–and she accepted it, without changing the way she eats or anything. She just has a bigger purpose: she wants to show how capable she is when her family wanted her to be a housewife and nothing else. I suppose that’s also the reason why she doesn’t dye her hair to hide her grey strands.
She’s also older than Nash. He was a great character too. I was a bit afraid of the “mansplainer” thing, and the way it’s explained didn’t completely assuage my fears. I get that he’s been in charge of his family for so long he needs to have control of everything, but he’s old enough to understand that free will is a thing. But he also has the best intentions, and he sure appreciates Chelle just as she is. A bit fetishizing? Maybe, except that it is said that he usually dates people different than her. He’s so willing to change in the end that he made me swoon big time.
Their fake-turned-real relationship was delicious. I enjoyed the domesticity and the slow seduction. They also had each other’s back. Relationship goals? Maybe, except for the fake marriage.
They both had their share of helpers and opponents, though Chelle clearly had fewer people in her corner. It was actually one of the interesting aspects of the story: Chelle compares the Becketts’ dynamics with how her own family worked. There’s a whole theme about expectations going on in the book, and I thought it was well written. How they can be a burden, how to get away from them, how to manage the one you have of yourself…
There sure is a lot of humor, but it comes from the writing, less from the situations or the characters. The style was witty and sometimes quirky. Some repetitions were unnecessary, but overall it was a pleasure to read.
Quickie
- Series: Last man standing #3 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #romcom #fake marriage #reverse age gap #dog lovers
- Triggers: misogyny, fat shaming
- Main couple: Michelle Finch & Nash Beckett
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 5/5
- + the way Nash loved Chelle BECAUSE of her size and her age
- – I wasn’t on board with the mansplainer thing, and the explanation wasn’t enough
Loved the third book in this series and I’m sad to see it end. A marriage of convenience for both! She keeps her foundation in tact and he gets to “date” his wife (the dating is set up by his cousins from the previous books) i love a good curvy H romcom. This was a sweet and funny romance that completed the series perfectly. I loved every minute of it. This author as usual does not disappoint.
I voluntarily read this book, thank you to the publisher.
Okay, I’ve just gotta say that at first I wasn’t sold on how these two very unlikely characters were thrown together with Grandma Betty’s last gift. But, having said that, this was the funniest book I’ve read in awhile, and the reasons behind the last gift was genius. I absolutely adored Nash and Chelle, all of their quirks just made this story. Loved Sir Hiss, Mary Pippins and Groucho Barks, and along with the Beckett cousins, the story had you laughing throughout the book. This author is becoming one of my top favorites authors with her ability to write funny books that keeps the reader engaged throughout the story. Well written and lovable characters, leaves you wanting more from this author!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Oh, how I have loved this series. Each Beckett cousin is one-of-a-kind, and their loves are equally individual.
In this particular installation of the series, he decides to outwit the other cousins by just getting married. Of course, the plan is to get a quick divorce after the contest is won.
Book 3 is fun. It’s perfect for a beach read, summer read, whatever you want to call it at the time when you stumble across it. Buy it, read it, and celebrate your great taste in books.
Nash Beckett is still unattached and is determined to win the bet with his cousins to be the last man not in love by Christmas. However, there are still a few rules he has to abide with such as going on six dates with the same woman. So when he meets Chelle Finch who needs a temporary husband, they both agree to marry for six months. Yet when he starts dating his wife, he realises that he might just want it to be something more than originally planned.
Book 3 in the series ‘ The Last Man Standing’ follows Nash who is sweet and caring and Chelle who is just what Nash needs. I did find the book entertaining but wondered if there needed to be such an overemphasis on her size. There is plenty of humour and the writing was quite witty.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and Entangled Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
QOTD: Do you make/take bets?
Me: Nope! Never. 😅
.
I considered not writing a review since my reading experience feels a little incomplete, but I want to explain why that is to maybe save some others from making the mistake I did!

This is book #3 in Avery Flynn's Last Man Standing series, which is advertised as a set of standalones. Personally, I think you need to read at least the first book to truly understand this book! The main trope of this is a marriage of convenience, but I truly did not see why Nash would need/want to be married??? Like maybe I missed something, but even when he explained in like three times through the first half of the book I still didn't see the point or buy it. But this is fiction and fiction is fun and not always perfectly realistic. I just couldn't get past that for whatever reason. 🤣🤷 So read the other books first so you know what's going on with their bet!
