I absolutely adored this older woman/younger man romance. This book was delightfully fun, and witty. This book was well written with a unique story. I loved the hero and heroine’s connection. This book is such a great summer read. It hit all the marks for me. Huge thanks to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book!
Mansplainer, the conclusion to the Beckett cousins books, was well worth the wait!
Nash Beckett is a character that we’ve gotten to know in the first two books on the series, but we get a deeper dive into his personality here. He is paired with Chelle, a slightly older woman with family baggage like you wouldn’t believe.
I truly enjoyed getting to know these characters. Nash is deeper and more sensitive than he has let on. Seeing how he clued into the issues Chelle was dealing with and worked to make them better was sweet. I also appreciated how Chelle’s view of relationships was challenged by seeing the Beckett clan.
In Mansplainer, we get to see to people evolve both individually and as a couple. At the same time, there are hefty doses of humor, puppies, cats, and interfering cousins. The secondary cast was fun, especially as this book wraps up a trilogy of stories (and potentially introduces future characters?)
Ms Flynn is a must read author for me and this is just one more example of why.
This was super cute and funny!
I've been wanting to try Avery Flynn for a while now, especially since I'm a romcom stan. Mansplainer is the third and final book in a series but I was okay with reading it as a standalone.
I had mixed feelings on the main characters. I really liked the heroine. She was older and knew what she wanted out of life. She 's also assertive. I liked that she pointed out the hero's mansplainer tendencies to his face too. That put a smile on my face. The hero was exactly as the title described him. He wears his butt as a hat most of the book and he was hard to warm up to. However, I did think being with Chelle made Nash more likable so that's a plus for the romance.
The ending felt a tiny bit anticlimactic (the mystery gift from the grandmother was ok). I didn't like how Chelle was described; it seemed a lot of negative descriptions were used but I'm not sure if that was purposeful due to Chelle's image of herself.
I think the humor and side characters were done just right here. I was chuckling during the book and really loved the puppies. The writing itself is also solid.
This is a marriage of convenience, reverse age-gap, billionaire romance so if you're into any of those give this a try.
Quirky and fun — the trio of pets are hilarious — but loosely held together with the marriage of convenience.
Chelle is 42 but you'd think she was geriatric by how often she's described as old — whether it's her age, her greying hair, or how many curves she has — instead of a strong independent female that's put everything she has into the non-profit and making her own life away from her toxic family. Nash — he's well meaning but the take charge/knows best actions are OTT. Putting these two together lead to some humorous moments, as well as some steamy ones.
The crux of the whole reason behind the marriage of convenience is rather anticlimactic. But the surprise gift reveal that has been three books in the making was rather humorous.
It wasn't my favorite or the series, but overall an entertaining read.
Many thanks to Entangled for an early copy of this book!
I have to be honest, I almost stopped reading this book multiple times. As a small summary, Chelle and Nash end up in a fake marriage that will benefit the both of them in different ways. Chelle is 8 years older than Nash and feels like she's out of his league. See how nicely I said that? Yeah....
We are told over and over again how dumpy Chelle is. How old she is (she's 42). How this hot guy can't possibly be into her. Many descriptions of her being fat and old (again she's 42?!?!?) and so many descriptions of how hot he was. I honestly got so very annoyed and offended (I'm 43) that I almost stopped reading many times. I get it. I have low self-esteem too. I have gray hair and I'm not skinny and I would question it if a super hot guy wanted to have sex with me BUT I'm not a main character in a romance novel. We are so beat down with descriptions of how plain she is to everyone but Nash that I too started to wonder why he was with her. But also, it's soooo hot how she just eats what she wants. JFC I can't with these two.
Then we have Nash who absolutely thinks he knows better than EVERYONE and just barrels over everyone to do what he thinks is best because that's how he is used to being. That's how he took care of his family growing up so that's why he's an absolute ass about everything. It got really annoying really quickly. He does come around but not before causing a major third act breakup because he's being a dick and of course that means conflict.
So why did I continue? The animals were cute, the family was great and I wanted to see if I ever liked either one of these two. The answer is no not really. It is a romantic comedy but I was so pissed off at being beat about the head at Chelle's physical descriptors, that I didn't laugh once.
The internalized fatphobia is strong here and not fun to read. Be careful with this one if that's something that you worry about. Now, I'm going to go eat a damn cookie.
Mansplainer comes out on June 28 and is #3 in the Last Man Standing series.
💭 Lately I seem to read quite a few of fake relationships and marriage of convenience. And I love them.
Mans plainer is a big different. That it all starts from wanting to win a bet against his family and cousins makes Nash a hero to look out for and got me even more intrigued.
Chelle needs a husband and agrees to this crazy plan that will end in six months. Or so they both think.
But there's a lot going on in this reckless time. They get to date and know each other to the point of bubbling, steaming furnaces. It's a slow burn that will practically explode, and I’m here for it all.
I loved their interactions and dates, their chemistry was great and even their friends and family.
I have read none of the previous books and while this is a standalone, I really want to go back and enjoy the other stories because those characters are something that I want to read.
🆓📖 Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy
I found the Last Man Standing series on Kindle Unlimited and read the first two in the series. I will admit I was beyond excited for book 3. I couldn't imagine how the author would be able to pull it off.
Avery Flynn fell very short. While there are moments that are cute there are times the characters didn't come off as believable and at times annoying. The way they were thrown together, and their interaction just came off flat at times. Many times, I felt like I was reading a romance that I have avoid for years with its lack of humor and annoying characters.
Each of the books have graphic sex scenes and sexual encounters that happen nonstop in Mansplainer. This review feels like the sex was to cover for the lack of story and characters development that would have made the characters likeable.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Avery Flynn Mansplainer
Okay, where on earth can I find my Beckett?! Where is he?! Chelle is an amazing plus size woman who gets the younger guy, atta girl Chelle! I found that Chelle and Beckett balanced each other out perfectly. If you’re looking for a cute summer read then definitely pick up this series! (This is book 3 of the Last Man Standing series). I swear Avery can’t write a bad book! Loved it.
Thank you to Entangled for an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

Chelle needs a husband to keep control of her foundation, per her Dad’s will, Nash is somehow convinced that if he gets married, he won’t fall in love? His logic is weird. 😂
Chelle is older than him, curvy (she mentions size 16 & her shitty uncle and some others makes awful comments about her weight), and going grey. Chelle doesn’t seem to have issues with her body the way it is - she just doesn’t understand why a younger man who looks like Nash (apparently he’s gorgeous and built with two killer dimples) would want her - cue Nash to show her all the ways she’s wrong. 🔥🔥🔥
They worked well together, I loved their banter, and both needed to grow as a person beyond the boxes they had put themselves in as a result of their upbringings. Chelle’s pet’s had the best names (Mary Puppins, Groucho Barks, and Sir Hiss), too, and Nash’s family is ridiculous and fun. I really enjoyed this one!
Mansplainer is a DNF for me. While I enjoyed book 2, this next installment is cringe worthy at best. The whole set-up did not work and it moved so quickly that it is was so unbelievable. I also found the female lead descriptions off-putting. Yeah we get she wears double-digit sizes, has grey hair but why doesn't she deserve a man like this??? And Nash's mansplaining got old fast.
Authors need to do better, hot men don't just deserve hot women. And stop making larger female leads with low self-esteem, instead make them empowering and confident.
Thank you Entangled Publishing for the advance reader copy.
I'm never disappointed with a book by Avery Flynn and this is another one to love. Chelle is one of the more unique characters she has come up with and I just loved her. Nash is great too and evolves so much since we met him in the first book. Find out what Grandma Betty left as her final gift. Laugh out loud. Sigh big at the romance. I hope the younger cousins get their own series.
A fun, frothy rom-com about a hot younger man who should stop talking and the saucy older woman who should do more doing. The hook is what to do with a successful CEO with a loving family, thriving family business, and six homes when he can't help but constantly mansplain family, friends, and the gorgeous stranger in the park sent by his mom. Luckily, Chelle needs a husband to fulfill a ironclad clause in her dad's will while Nash needs a wife to win a family bet. So of course, these two mismatched strangers enter into a platonic (sure, Jan) marriage of convenience slash makeover: Nash adorably agrees to let Chelle cure him of his mansplaining because he is just that instantly gaga for her.
The zigzag of flirt and steam and cheek between Chelle and Nash reminded me of a sleek 1930s rom-com: the suave businessman! the alluring mystery woman! shady villain uncle! silly pets! interfering family! But the newlyweds' private moments were actually the sweetest (and sexiest):
The problem is that Chelle and Nash fit together so well that the Dark Moment that drives them apart didn't make sense. Both Nash's motivation and Chelle's reaction to the Dark Moment felt completely artificial and forced. And then Chelle's father's will and Nash's family bet both barely made sense to begin with, their entire marriage of convenience romance started to get a bit strained for me. The final chapter tied up loose ends in an adorably twee manner, but I wished things could have stayed that light throughout Chelle and Nash's whole story.
3 stars.

They are both too much!!
Wow ok how to start this review. Well first let’s say Nash was my absolute worst nightmare at the beginning of the book. The author absolutely did the title Justice when page after page you want to make him STOP talking. Then we get the overly independent Chelle who is no less controlling but in a I am woman hear me roar kind of was. This book was so over the top that you believe every minute of it. Then the author takes you on a road I’d discovery not only between the two but of each other. She manages gentle growth and a slow burn to happily ever after. The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: As the only Beckett cousin who is still unattached, I'm a shoo-in to win the bet with my cousins to be the last man blissfully not in love by Christmas. Of course, I know they're still going to make me follow the rules of our bet and go on six dates with the same woman—but I've figured out a way out of that too. I'm getting married. Is it love? Not even close. Chelle Finch needs a temporary husband and I need to win this bet. We agree to put a ring on it knowing that this marriage of convenience will end in divorce. Except, somehow dating my wife has me realizing that I don't ever want to take this ring off if it means losing her.
What does the guy who can talk his way out of anything have to do to sweet talk his temporary wife into forever?
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕
Nash is a person who can’t help but give advice on how to do things even when not wanted. He is determined to win a bet with his cousins to go on 6 dates with a woman and not fall in love. Chelle is 42 and determined to live her life the way she wants after spending most of her life being told what to do by her family. She is an independent woman who runs a successful family charity. In her free time she writes books that she never wants to be published. Chelle is dumbfounded when her relative tells her that she has to be married in order to keep control over the charity she has put her blood sweat and tears into for the last few years. Apparently this was her dad’s way of controlling her life when he isn’t even alive. The perfect solution according to Nash is to get married for a month then divorce. They will love in her apartment but not have a relationship other than friends. Will they be able to stick to their plan or will they develop feels for the other that they never expected? I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Chelle is in a bind: she can only inherit her father’s charity in full if she marries, and her horrible, conservative uncle is determined to make sure she fails at that. Enter Nash, a younger man who has decided he needs a wife so he can win a bet with his family. He proposes a marriage of convenience to Chelle that will work out for both of them, but Chelle isn’t sure about him - he likes to control and thinks he always knows best. Despite this, she finds herself agreeing, and once they’re married, it soon becomes clear to both of them that this isn’t going to be quite the simple arrangement they envisioned.
This is fun. Overall it wasn’t really my kind of thing, but it’s super entertaining and quite funny in parts with a plotline that trips along nicely. Chelle was a really good main character: she was very refreshing, and I thought the fact she was older and secure in herself and what she wanted out of life was a nice change for a story like this. I struggled to warm to Nash, and I’m not sure I ever did by the time I finished the book - he was quite an annoying character. I know this was partly by design, but his ‘mansplaining’ bordered on the ridiculous at points, with a couple of gags about it actually making me roll my eyes. But I didn’t mind him with Chelle - I thought they complemented each other well and had good chemistry. The sex scenes in this book are really hot and well-written.
The writing in this is really strong and engaging and I did enjoy it, it just didn’t hit some of the notes I like my romances to. I never really liked Nash as a character and that impacted my enjoyment overall, as did what I thought was quite a weak and unresolved ending. I wanted more of a solid conclusion as I felt a lot was left up in the air by the end of it. Overall though this is a fun and well-written book - it just wasn’t quite for me, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light, funny read with a marriage of convenience romance I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free copy of this book.
Content Notes: Death of a parent (in past), sexist / misogynistic language, references to drug addiction, references to alcoholism, fatphobia, ageism, controlling behaviour, on-page sex, age gap.
Another installment of the unconventional group of cousins. The Beckett boys have a "Last Man Standing" competition going amongst each other to see who will inherit the secret gift that has been willed to them. The Beckett boys are just as unorthodox as the rest of their family. Nash is sure that he is going to win the challenge he has going with his cousins, and he is sure that he can help Chelle out with her inheritance dilemma by agreeing to marry her because they definitely won't fall in love with each other. Unfortunately things never work out that easy. With the way this story wrapped up, it left just enough dangling threads to tease us with the promise of more excitement to come from those crazy Becketts!
I love reading Avery Flynn's fun and quirky stories! Can't wait to read the next one!
Chelle Finch is not interested in love, but she needs a husband ASAP in order to fulfill her father’s will and gain control of the Charity Organization she works for.
Nash Beckett thinks he is a shoo in to win the bet. Of course he needs to follow the rules and go on 6 dates with the same woman. And he thinks he has the perfect solution - a temporary marriage with Chelle.
This was a fun wrap up of the series. I really liked Nash’s character, I found his Mansplainer too cute and I loved how he made Chelle feel beautiful and sexy. She is a plus sized woman and always gets commented on that by her family but with Nash, it didn’t matter what her dress size was.
This was an entertaining read with humor, cuteness and a height heat quotient.
I enjoyed this! Nash is a serial mansplainer, a fact that comes from being the oldest and most responsible person in the house-even moreso than his parents! I loved the way he and Chelle met, and I loved their chemistry.
I’m really torn on how to rate this book. On one hand - I liked it enough to finish.. On the other hand - there were so many annoying things about this book. I liked how the age gap was reverse and Chelle was older (see more about this below). I also liked how Chelle was plus sized. The spice was on point.
Some things I didn’t like: Nash seemed so annoying. I guess I should have figured based on the title but he was more annoying than I assumed. For the record, 42 isn’t old. The author focused on 42 being SO old. There’s a way to do older woman, younger guy but this book misses that mark (at least for me).
I was given an Advanced Reader Copy by NetGalley for an honest review.
This is Beck and Chelle's story. While I enjoyed this book overall, some of the ways Chelle was described seemed to mean even though I think the author meant to show that there is a type for everyone regardless of weight. I was disappointed.
