Nash is the family fixer and always willing to share his suggestions or opinions whether they are asked for or not. Nash is currently the last cousin unattached and found a loophole in the rules to ensure his victory; he’s getting married. Chelle Finch needs a husband before Christmas to fulfill the terms of her father’s will to prevent her uncle from shutting down the family foundation. Nash and Chelle agree to a mutually beneficial marriage of convenience to ensure the foundation survives and Nash wins the last present. Slowly, Chelle and Nash, both set in their ways, begin to adjust to having the other around and enjoy their time together more than they anticipated while the sexual tension builds until it boils over. But can you really teach an old dog new tricks or will they both revert to their old way of life?
Mansplainer is book #3 in the Last Man Standing series by Avery Flynn starring the Beckett cousins. Nash is my least favorite cousin. He’s personality is a bit much, you can understand why after how he grew up, but it’s a lot and Chelle helped calm those tendencies. Chelle had a toxic upbringing and she carried that baggage around as a shield but slowly Nash helped her see through the mess. They both complimented each other in their own way.
The ending felt somewhat anticlimactic and wrapped up really quickly. The gift was clever and definitely feeds into the cousins competitive sides but after reading Nash’s story it felt rigged from the beginning. I enjoyed Dixon and Fiona and Griff and Kinsey’s stories much better. The connection between those couples felt more genuine and more developed.
Thank you @entangled_publishing and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
This is a freakin’ fantastic and hilarious book. You will absolutely snort laugh 😹 on so many occasions. Nash Beckett is the only cousin left unmarried and he has a plan. Chelle needs to get married to save her foundation. The Becketts are up to their antics and make for an interesting story. The story gets steamy as Nash and Chelle turn their fake marriage into a trial one. The author knows just how to keep the reader excited about turning the pages with the human and animal characters that are divine. You will want to get a copy for yourself and all your friends.
A fun, witty marriage of convenience read! Nash is the last bachelor of the group and he's not looking to be the next in line, but when he meets Chelle he realizes maybe he could. She's older and in need of a husband and Nash is the perfect match. I loved that she was curvy, but felt that it wasn't represented as well as it could have been. It's a fun, quick read with a nice amount of steam!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and these amazing Beckett cousins. I binge read this because so needed to know what Grandma Betty was up to and I really enjoyed Nash and Chelle. Nash is something else and a true “mansplainer” to the point of being annoying. He is determined to win the bet between his cousins but is quickly running out of time. Chelle is funny, self deprecating and needs help in order to save her dream. She is very set in her ways and could learn to maybe give a little. The banter and slow burn between these two is off the charts! The hallway scene - you will need a fan. The IKEA scene is so funny along with the other dates. I received a complimentary copy and I am leaving my honest review.
This was a really fun conclusion to the Last Man Standing series. Nash honestly could have easily been a very annoying hero with his tendency to mansplain just about everything. Or at the very least, put his nose into things no one asked him too. But he turned out to be a pretty fun character and his habit of trying to fix things for people actually put a smile on my face - mostly. Especially when Chelle was there to point out to him just how annoying that habit of his could be.
Chelle was also a great character to read about and she and Nash made the perfect couple. She wasn't some shy wallflower but just like most people she did have her insecurities and things that she overly worried about. So it was perfect to see how she was with Nash who was one of the only people that was actually rooting for Chelle to succeed.
Overall, this book was well worth the wait and I highly recommend reading this series.
Mansplainer is the third book in the Last Man Standing series, but can be read as a stand alone. Nash and his three cousins have a bet that they will not find love by Christmas, and so far Nash is the only guy left who is still unattached. Chelle comes from a toxic family where women only hold value in how they look and in being a wife. She needs to find a husband to inherit from her father's estate. They come to the conclusion that the answer to both of their problems is a fake marriage to each other.
This book has lots of steamy chemistry and great open door scenes, and had some amazing romance tropes. you have older woman/younger man, fake marriage, and plus sized heroine. The villains are a touch over the top (Chelle's uncle makes one desperately hope that there aren't people with his antiquated notions of women's roles out there in the world still), but there are also hysterical side characters both in person and animal form.
This was a fun romance and a perfect beach read.
Thanks to Entangled Pubishing for giving me an ARC of this book.
Avery Flynn is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I already had read the first two books in the series and loved them, and I really enjoyed this one as well. Not my favorite in the series but it was absolutely a good time, I liked Beckett, I loved the whole older woman/younger man thing, and Chelle was hilarious. Definitely a good read and would recommend!
Love marriage of convenience stories!
This one is one of my favorites of this year. It has all I love, clever banter, off-the-chart chemistry, and a fun family attached to it.
This is a must-read!
This book is for the trope lover in my heart! Seriously it covers so many the the best tropes: age gap, forced proximity, marriage of convenience, and there are the cutest puppies and Avery Flynn's classic humor!
Chelle and Nash are a match made in meddling mom heaven complete with an epic meet cute that nearly required a hospital visit! The comedy in this book comes at you from all angles as does the steamy anticipation for what's to come. I loved the silliness and the seriousness and how the characters so beautifully came together when the time was right. This series is such a bright spot and I was so happy to see Nash get his HEA and how all the cousins played a part in the courtship. This is one of those families I want to read more of!
I really struggled with this book and it’s the first in a while that I DNF.
I haven’t read the earlier books in the series and when I first started this I felt like I’d missed the beginning of the book- I just didn’t understand it and thought the premise was strange. I really tried to get into the story but just couldn’t.
It was duel pov but written in third person.
I didn’t connect with or warm to either character so it was hard to try and root for them when to be honest I just didn’t care. Nash is extremely annoying- bordering on rude particularly in the earlier parts of the book, and it felt like their was constant focus on Chelle being ‘old’ at 42 and overweight. Over and over again this is mentioned.
I found a lot of the scenes a bit cringey and embarrassing.
Overall, this one just wasn’t for me.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions on this book are my own.
A bet you want to win and a person who needs your help. Ideal conditions
If man didn't have the habit of interfering always and everywhere, regardless of whether his opinion is asked for or not.
It's sweet to read as the two grow closer and the brief, limited arrangement grows more intense.
Let yourself be surprised what leads to the turning point.
Have fun reading!
I wanted to love this one, but it was not for me. I enjoy the fake marriage trope a lot so that was not an issue for me. The writing was mostly not an issue either.
For me, there were several plot holes or things that just did not make sense. I don’t want to spoil anything so this is intentionally vague. One example that’s not a spoiler is we see a character that seems to play an integral role in the book, but just “poofs” away and isn’t where they should be.
I wanted to love Nash and for the most part, I did. However, his mansplaining was over-the-top. I also felt like we didn’t get a true picture of what motivated him….it was all vague even though the book is dual POV.
Speaking of POV’s, there’s a sudden switch at the end to previous characters that just did not work for me. I have t read the other two books, but I don’t feel that this would change my view of this part. Also, the ending is very anti-climatic. It was still a HEA for all, but not what I envisioned for it.
I LOVED the pets in the story! Grouch Barks, Mary Puppins, and Sir Hiss are the best pet names I’ve ever come across in a story! I sympathized with Chelle and clearly understood her motivations. Her family is TOXIC and she struggles with that throughout the book. Her development was thought-out and well done.
Overall disappointed, but I don’t feel this is necessarily indicative of this authors writing. I will definitely read her previous books and I have the first two books in this series on my TBR.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for a copy of the book.
I was so excited to read the last book in the Last Man Standing series! I wanted to know so badly what was in The grandma’s present. Unfortunately this book did not deliver for me. I found the heroine’s friends annoying. I really did not like how the heroine was described. Yes I know that people start graying as they get older but it was described as “ gray streaks in her hair.” And that turned me off. What made me DNF-ed the book was the first sex scene. The book kept repeating that she was older than him and didn’t have a great body and the sex scene just felt like a boy being intimate with a friend’s mom but in a bad way.
The one thing I will say was that I loved the hero, Nash! His need to help others constantly was sweet and I would’ve loved to got to the point where he realized that he needed to take a step back and let everyone live their own lives.
Read if you like:
Dual POVs
Reverse age gap
Closed proximity
Marriage of convenience
Open door romance
Mansplainer by Avery Flynn, the final book in the Last Man Standing series, is a sweet, humorous, and adorable, enjoyable story about a well-meaning Mansplainer who can’t wait to seduce his wife. Michelle Finch finds herself in a dire need of a husband. When her father passed he left an archaic stipulation in his will, stating that in order for Chelle to continue running her foundation she must be married, by the end of the year. With time running out and a male chauvinist, anti-feminist uncle trying to take over, Chell has few options. Encountering an eccentric woman in the park who reads her fortune leads to the next day meeting a stranger at the dog park; someone who believes he has to fix things for everyone. Chelle never expected her soon to be husband to be one, gorgeous, mansplaining Nash Bennett. Nash may be an over the top mansplainer, but he has a huge heart of gold. He really can't control his impulses to help in literally every situation, it's his nature to make everything better; whether you are family, or complete stranger, or even want it. When he meets Chelle, the first person ever to not only take his helpful advice, but to also help guide him away from his mansplainer ways, he can't help but be a little charmed by her. Nash never wanted or even expected to fall for anyone, he knows he’s going to get grandma Betty’s undisclosed present at Christmas. His other cousins have already succumbed to love, and he knows he won’t. He only needs go on six dates, set up by said cousins, with the first woman who answers his dating profile. The rules don’t state she can’t be his wife of convenience. The more time he spends time around Chelle the less sure he actually believes he can avoid getting feelings for her. Chelle is unlike any woman he's ever met and their agreement may have started as temporary, but he might actually like to keep his wife, if only she felt the same.
Ms. Flynn wrote another wonderful, fun, humorous, unexpected insta-love story filled with Beckett family shenanigans, sizzling chemistry, clever banter, and entertaining secondary characters that should definitely not be missed. Then there are the puppies, an entertaining cat, meddling family, and that last gift from their grandmother. I highly recommend Mansplainer to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Unfortunately this it’s not what I was expecting and I had to stop at 20% mark. I really don’t enjoy 3rd person story.
Very grateful to the publisher/author for my review copy.
Mansplainer was a quick read with just the right amount of steam and humor.
I enjoyed reading about a plus size older woman and a younger man. Fake marriage turned real feelings is one of my favorite tropes.
I could see "the break up" coming from a mile away, but it was still a shock when it happened.
I did not care for how Chelle was treated by her family, but that is the purpose of this book! I loved seeing her stand up for herself and how she is able to show Beckett that he cannot solve everyone's problems.
Thank you for allowing me to read this eArc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this story. Nash and Chelle had sizzling chemistry. Seeing as how this is a falling for your fake spouse story, the plot is pretty obvious from the get-go but still lots of fun. Nash was kind of annoying at the beginning, offering unsolicited advice at every turn. I liked that he was quick to listen to Chelle when she reminded him that he was going too far with the explaining as it showed a lot about his character. He was a really good man and it made sense that Chelle fit into his life as the person who takes care of the person who takes care of everyone else. There was a lot of character growth in both of the MCs. Chelle, who was closed off and a little set in her ways at the outset of the story, really opened herself up to family and love.
***Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled: Amara and Avery Flynn. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own.***
Mansplainer is the third book in the crazy Last Man Standing Series from Avery Flynn.
Nash Beckett is literally The Last Man Standing but based on the rules of the competition he created he cannot win by default. Lucky for us… Nash has a plan! Just like Dix and Griff, Nash must go on six dates and not fall in love. He refuses to be like the other two whose attempts flopped when they met the loves of their lives.
Nash thinks his plan is fool proof and that with some help from his mom. A chance encounter she had with forty-two-year-old Chelle Finch and that plan is simple: marry Chelle, save her charity from her evil uncle's clutches, get his six dates and win the bet.- Easy Peasy… maybe
Nash is a typical older brother. He is a wiseacre who knows better than anyone on any given subject. He is a problem solver a good guy who just wants to help. Family is everything to him and he will do whatever it takes to keep them all together. Nash is s very likeable character. He is sweet and caring while being super sexy! He just at times is too much and even on page is a bit overwhelming in his helpfulness.
Chelle has closed her self off from other but with good reason. She has been talked down to and treated poorly by the men in her life. Chelle is incredibly stubborn to her own detriment and all the way to the very end. Chelle was witty, tense, and quirky, but was a perfect balance for Nash. But I was not of fan of some of her choices and her decision to be less than honest.
My one piece that really bugged me in this book was the way in which Chelle was described. I am very hard on a curvy heroine because I very much want the rep to be done well. This was not. Chelle viewed herself in a very negative light. She was described as having fat rolls, pillowy boobs thick thighs, and many other derogatory descriptions. I really hated them all. It made difficult for me to continue on with the book.
If you are going to write a plus size heroine why does it have to have negative descriptions? Why can’t we embrace the curves and the beauty of everybody. I get it can be a device to help move the story and create angst but being fat is not a personality trait. Being fat does not mean that is all there is to a person. I just wish Chelle was loved as she was. I wish it has been more embraced.
Outside of this one issues I really did like this story. I loved Nash as the good guy. This series was so fun and just want I want in a rom-com. The emotions of this story and the bit of the twist with the package from Grandma Beckett was unexpected and bittersweet.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A great read. This RomCom is so enjoyable. It is STEAMY, witty and fun. The premise of the book is so interesting it holds your attention throughout the novel.
What a fun book. I enjoyed the very real-life examples of what mansplaining is all about!
Chelle needs a husband so her creepy uncle can't take away the charity that she has been developing for years. Her father died and his will was explicit-she must marry or lose the charity. Chelle is a romance writer, but not for anyone else, and also runs the charity. She and her two cute pugs and growly cat live happily alone.
Beckett wants to be the one to open the last present his beloved grandmother left before her death...without a tag. To do so, he has to NOT fall in love and be the last cousin not in love by Christmas. Beckett figures he's not outside the 'rules' by marrying and then divorcing quickly, but fate has a say in all his machinations.
Chell decides to give Beckett's idea a try. Of course her uncle, the creep, tries to bollox the whole thing up.
Will Chelle be able to save the charity? Will Beckett win the 'Last Man Standing' prize?
I've read this whole series. Loved the first two book. This one, I really liked, until the very end. Kind of a let down after all the hype about the last present grandma left! Still a fun and worthwhile read, especially if you're like me and have to know the ENDING!
