This is such a wonderful workbook to help kids deal with their emotions and give them really practical and helpful tools to cope with life. It's never too early to start learning these things and I honestly found a lot of them to be useful reminders myself! (I definitely know other adults who could benefit from them as well!.) The preteen years are incredibly delicate and important years in a young person's life and I love that this resource exists for them.
Highly recommended for parents and educators!
Thank you netgalley for this ARC.
You can live on the brightside is a great classroom and home library tool. I think mindfulness is a great way to clear your mind and focus on the now.
I automobile thought how useful thus would be around exam time, when children are overstressed and need to breathe.
Highly recommend asking your adult friends their little super powers. I enjoyed finding avocado in a baby's arm fold
Again – this one has a lesson we adults need just as much as children.. With bright and vivid colors and illustrations, this one will have you riveted. Explaining what optimism and positivity hope mean, this one has tips, tricks, activities, and recipes that will have your little one ready to jump out of bed in the morning and tackle the day. One of my favorites is an exercise where you ask your child to write down three things they’re looking forward to that day. Again, this would work for adults too! From cooking, to music, to writing, to fun facts, and more – this one has it all. With categories such as Mind, Body, The Great Outdoors, Create, Learn New Things, Home and Lifestyle, Help People, and Help the Planet, this one is hard to beat.
I never received this book. I wasn’t able to locate it but didn’t want to impact the rating one way or the other so I’m giving this one 5 stars since everyone else did. I wish I had access to it but can’t find it b
This book is written to teach children about optimism and setting them up for success in creating a positive frame of mind. The book is divided into 8 sections, each around 25-40 pages in length, totalling about 256 pages (including introduction, resources, authors note etc). The sections include things like mind, body, creativity and within each section there are smaller subsections. For example, in the first section, Mind, there are eight sub sections such as mindfulness, meditation, growth mindset and gratitude. The pages are colourful, contain lots of illustrations and do not have an excessive amount of text on the page. There are several "tip" and "did you know" boxes that also help space out the text. You will also find a variety of step by step instructions and drawings to help complete any of the activities that are included. The book is written for children but could definitely be shared with an adult and part of a program or something to work through together. I would recommend this book to parents and even teachers of children in the age 6-12 range who struggle with negative thought patterns, anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges. I think that the positive wording and framework of the book will help children who struggle see the value in trying these new strategies and being able to find more joy in the world around them. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read this book, I would definitely recommend it!
Fun illustrations and plenty of great tips not only for kids but older readers too! I'll probably start applying some of these tips in my own life! I think this would make a great gift for middle schoolers and older elementary schoolers who are just learning how to deal with new complex emotions. It's also a great refresher of coping mechanisms for those of us who already have some experience but sometimes forget to take a moment and engage in healthy everyday practices. There are plenty of fun activities and tips and blurbs plus cute visuals to keep younger minds engaged. I'd highly recommend.
Schools should definitely use this!
I really like this book. I like the activities, illustrations and really appreciate the overall message. I can definitely see this being used in a school or educational setting. It would make an amazing book for the classroom and for students to experience with their peers.
It could also make a good gift for the "right" child. I say this because the execution does make this feel more like a textbook or homework, instead of leisure, and may not appeal to all children outside the classroom.
You Can Live on the Bright Side is a really cool book for kids to learn more about meditation, gratitude, and how to live with tough emotions. I really enjoyed all of the different tips and exercises for how to calm yourself down or cheer yourself up. I also loved the tips on sleep, getting outside in nature, and how to be more creative. This is filled with lots of activities- it would keep a child entertained for days!
I definitely want this book for my students, my nephews and nieces. We adults think children and the young do not need to worry much about anything. This is so wrong! Everyone gets confused, worried and anxious from time to time. They are no different. So here's a little huglike trustworthy tips for them.
The whole book is such a delightful read. We don't need to read page to page everytime together but we would be doing a great favor by gifting this book to the ones who would definitely get the most much needed understanding, something which they would be able to get access to whenever they need some good practical advice about mindfulness, our body, some easy tips on meditation.
The book has parts about journaling which I feel would help a lot and it does make the book more fun and enjoyable.
Just gift this book! They would definitely appreciate it.
Thank you, Andrews McMeel, for the advance review copy.
