Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
This book was....cute. It took me a significantly long time to read, which was unfortunate because I really wanted to like it, but it just fell a little short for me. It had all of the makings of a really cute political-based book, but it just felt a little difficult for me to read. I can't even pinpoint the part of the book that was so difficult for me to read, other than the relationship between the two main characters felt really rushed (to me) and both of them felt really bullheaded/stubborn at times, so it doesn't seem fair that I didn't like it as much as other books that are similar. But alas, this book was just not quite my jam. It was cute, it is easy enough to read, but it is going to live on my shelf since I don't think it is one I am going to want to pick up again. 2.5/5
This was a really fun romcom with lovable characters and a firece competition and I absolutely loved reading it. If you are looking for a fun story with lots of quirky characters and fun banter then you will love this story,
In this book we meet Librarian Hallie who just turned 30 and after a night out, decides to sign her up to run for mayor. Fitz is the longtime mayor in Swan Cove. When Hallie decides to run against him, he welcomes competition and offers to help her out and lots of hijinks and shenanigans occur.
This was a slow burn romance but was filled with a really fun town and election and characters I grew to love.
It has been a while since I have read one of Christi Barth's delightful books.. I love her breezy writing style, endearing characters, pleasant banter and amusing plots. In this book, she was laser focused on the two main characters, librarian Hallie Scott and mayor Fitz Montgomery. Hallie grew up in the poorer town of Crow Harbor as opposed to the wealthier one across the river, Swan Cove. Her parents encouraged her to excel so she could do better than they. Isn't that what every parent wants? And they also gave her unconditional love. She graduated with an MA and was hired as the head librarian in Swan Cove. Fitz Montgomery is the scion of the wealthiest family in Swan Cove. A Montgomery has always been mayor and has always run unopposed. The problem is the Fitz hates the job, but allows family loyalty to rule his life. On her 30th birthday, Hallie's best friend Megan added her name to the ballot. Not something that Hallie is at all comfortable with, but on the way to remove her name, she overhears a very condiscending conversation about her, and decides not only will she run, but win. The problem is not only does she have no skills for campaigning, but as she gets to know him, she finds that she REALLY likes Fitz, and the feeling is mutual. Can they carry on a secret affair without anyone getting the wiser? Will their relationship have an expiration date?
I really enjoyed reading the book and recommend it to those who like fun RomComs. I read an ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.com. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Hottie on Her Shelf is a cute romance novel with a dash of small town politics thrown in. Fitz is the current mayor of Swan Cove and a Montgomery, the family the owns the town and has always been in charge. Hallie is the librarian for the town and from the other side of the tracks, but on a whim decides to run for mayor. It is a cute book about these two finding each other, learning what they want for their lives, and dealing with some generational trauma. I enjoyed it and was happy with the ending as well.
Last, but certainly not least, my latest read in this set that features the golden boy Mayor Montgomery (aka Fitz), and the town...librarian? Yes indeed! You know you love a good story featuring books, or bookish people, and this one has a splash of both making a wonderful concoction you want to bottle and sell! Loved the family legacy running the town, yet how Fitz wasn't really one of them. There was so much good he actually wanted to do, and yet rocking the boat, even in his privileged world, wasn't an easy thing to do! Enter, Hallie Scott...his new running mate for town Mayor. He's run uncontested for his last two terms, as have the Montgomery's before him, but leave it to this disheveled, but golden hearted librarian to inadvertently shake things up. She reminds him why he does what he does, or rather of the dreams he's cast aside to do what he does for the family, and he can see that while yes, she's a hot mess when it comes to campaigning, she's got the raw material. I love how despite running against one another, they are able to acknowledge what could be between them, and that their platforms are not truly who they are, but rather things they stand for. The separation of the mayoral candidates and Fitz and Hallie was sweet (and sometimes spicy!), but a great new way to take on the political arena...too bad it doesn't play out in the real world! Another fun read with heart, snark, and a bit of heat, perfect for a summer escape!
This was a small town rom-com and I loved it. It was everything I would want from a small town romance and a rom-com.
Hottie on Her Shelf did not work for me. I was promised some steam and this book was akin to walking through the desert while dehydrated.
I am a fan of Christi Barth. I usually devour her books; however, I could not get through this one quickly. The story is cute. The characters are cute. The sex scenes are good. I just couldn't see/feel them. Something about Hallie and Fitz didn't fit for me and it made the book dragggggggggggg.
Maybe it's me.
I would probably leave this hottie looking pretty on the shelf.
Hottie on Her Shelf is the first book that I have had the pleasure of reading by Christi Barth and it certainly won’t be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hallie and Fitz’s story. The chemistry just leapt off the page anytime they were together. I was rooting for them from the beginning. I didn’t love what caused her to keep her name on the ballot, but I did love the end result, so I guess it was all worth it in the end. She grew so much as a person and so did he, all because of that encounter that started it all. Will Hallie win everything her heart desires? Read Hottie on Her Shelf to find out.
I consider Hottie on Her Shelf by Christi Barth a must read for romance readers.
Hottie on Her Shelf follows librarian Hallie who gets put on the ballot for mayor by her best friend. Fitz is the current mayor and his family has been the mayor of the town for years . Hallie has no intention of being mayor but overhears Fitz saying bad things about her. So now she is determined to beat him. Hallie is in over her head and Fitz wants a fair fight, so he agrees to coach her. And soon they might just learn that they are not enemies.
Overall, I thought this was a good book. I really liked the plot and enjoyed the relationship between Hallie and Fitz. I will say that I didn't really like the main characters as romantic partners. I didn't really see chemistry between the two of them. I also prefer my romance books to be a little steamy and this had no steam. Which I think if you liked closed door romance this would be a book you would enjoy. But like I said I am more of an open door romance person. This wasn't my favorite romance read but, it was still cute and I enjoyed it. Just wish this book had a little more character development.
Thank you so much NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, and Christi Barth for the ARC of this book.
Hottie on Her Shelf is a small town romance following the campaign trails of Fitz - the current mayor - and Hallie - the town librarian - as they both stand for the mayoral election. I enjoyed the chemistry between Fitz and Hallie and I found the development of their relationship really interesting to follow. The pace in the second third of the book slowed down a bit and I struggled to stay with the story, but then it picked up again. On the whole it made for an entertaining read and I thought Fitz was great.
A fun read! The writing style was good and it was easy to connect with the characters. Definitely recommend!
Hallie is the head librarian of a small town called, swan cove after celebrating her 30th birthday she's in for a big surprise. Megan her best friend, had put her name on the ballot as Swan Coves mayor. Not only will she be running against swan coves youngest and irresistibly charming Fitz Montgomery she will also have to show the community that she has their best interests at heart.
It started off really slow, an average read for me as it really lacked a good dusting of drama there was only a good pinch of it towards the end when Hallie started stirring things up. There wasn't really good flow where I felt the chapters interweave together. There was a good storyline and I especially loved Hallie's character.
3/5⭐
Thank you to the author Christi Barth, Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for the e-arc.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Our FMC Hallie is a head librarian whostill enjoy her side effect of her 30 birthday celebration when knew about her Bf girt, put her name in the town mayor ballot. Extra troubles, the ballot historical only ceremonial because it always land on solo candidate from big family who basicly own the town.
In another side, currently mayor Fitz is sick with all family pressures and expectations. He really want prove his worthy and good works.
Mixed them both together and we get this deliciously funny romance story.
The plot itself is fast and easy to enjoy. I personally love book about good competitions with honor and love sprinkles on it. The characters got enough development and I like to see the progress of their relationship. The ending kinda rushed for solving the conflict but still acceptable.
Thank you Netgalley and Amara from Entangled Publishing LLC for provided me with this copy. I am grateful and my thoughts are my own.
A day after her birthday Hallie found out that her best friend has put in her name to run alongside with Fitz for the town mayor election. Hallie is a town librarian is going head on again Fitz who is a Montgomery and being the one who carry the name, is always the mayor of Sandy Cove. At first Hallie have no interest to run for mayor but after round of convincing, she decided that maybe she is what it takes to know do the Montgomery off.
The story of enemies to lovers romance with Hallie a reserved woman and Fitz who being torn between his family they and his own needs.love the strong Hallie and sweet and caring Fitz. Overall it is a fun read for me.

This romantic comedy had a lot of sweet moments and I really enjoyed getting to know Fitz. He seemed to make a huge effort to develop a relationship with Hallie and take it to the next level. Her character wasn't as easy to like, but they ended up complementing each other and working through their differences.
The idea of this book is adorable. I also liked the characters a lot. However, the writing, especially the dialogue made it quite hard for me to not let my mind drift elsewhere sometimes. It felt like Hallie was playing everything quite hot and cold. She was either full on flirting or full on icing Fitz out and that lead to me being frustrated with her a lot. It also made me feel like he could do better AND more straightforward. Which is not an ideal way of thinking when reading a romance novel..
I also felt like the dialogue could be a bit wooden and a lot of the banter didn't land for me. I think if the characters would have had more chemistry, I would have enjoyed this more because the premise was such much fun. Overall, I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. I do realise however, that this might be a me problem and that other readers will not have the same reservations.
So this book was not for me
It took me soo much to finish this book
It had its funny moments and some fun banter but it was just missing so much of what I needed in a rom-com
I just couldn't get into it, it might also have to do with the political aspect bc I like my books to be my fun part of life and not have too much news/politic type things lol
The main characters were I interesting, Fitz was a pretty great character (which surprised me a bit) but Hallie now she was just blah and she annoyed me
There was not much of a connection, chemistry or spark for me
I am still thankful to get this ARC, thank you to the publisher and NetGalley
The above comments and opinions are my own and honest
This was a fun and entertaining read from Christi Barth.
Hallie and Fitz were both likeable characters you can love. He's the mayor who feels the strain of family obligations. She's the librarian who decides to challenge him when he's running for reelection. They had great banter and chemistry despite the fact they are supposed to be enemies as they campaign.
The story moved at a nice pace and I liked seeing them each grow and find their way. It made them feel relatable and made the story more interesting.
I really hope there are more stories to come from the small town of Swan's Cove. It is full of characters whose stories I would love to read.
Such a fun Rom Com! I will definitely recommend this to friends and family. It made me laugh out loud a couple of times which I always enjoy when reading a book.
