When you first meet somebody new
Do you divulge your background too?
What if your job involves selling
But saying just what would really be telling?
For Josie Jewell she's already been broken hearted
After her ex left a note (on the fridge) and then departed.
Now she prefers to initially conceal
What her parents did and what her job is, not either to reveal.
So when she meets Cameron she's amazed to discover
Their interests in movies and more are so like one another!
But should she reveal what her background includes
Or would it be best the facts to elude?
A fun story involving families, romance and joy,
Secrets, betrayal and plenty of toys!
This is a hilarious read, with mischief and fun
Though not for the prudish when all is said and done!
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
What a funny story! This book was a quick read and had many times where I was literally laughing out loud, While some parts of this book could be considered shocking to some people, I think most would still find humor and joy from reading it.
I enjoyed this rom-com so much! It was fun and sometimes absolutely hilarious, I found myself lol-ing. Especially with nan 😂
The entire book of filled with really cute scenes and there was about one or two scenes that had me like “okayy Josie girl, get yours 🗣️”
My favorite thing about the entire book were the characters and the importance of family the book focuses on. Josie’s family are each other’s best friends, the relationship Josie has with her brother Sonny, reminds me of the relationships I have with my brothers and I know how special it is. I did enjoy the fact that the parents came from the adult entertainment industry and how they were able to be open with their children. I believe that is why Josie and Sonny’s characters were able to be so successful. (I know they’re just characters 😂)
I ended up giving the book 4/5 stars because I needed more in the end? We did not get any time with Josie and Cameron together while also knowing the truth about each other. I would’ve at least liked an epilogue with like six months later or something lmao
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-arc 🫶🏽
I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy, quick read but I liked the concept and the characters were likeable too. A good holiday read!
Kristen Bailey is an author who is guaranteed to shock you when you read. No topic is off-limits or taboo, but you will also be surprised at what you find yourself laughing at. I have to say that I absolutely loved her Callaghan Sisters series, so I was predisposed to like this one. But she had me hooked from the opening scenes at a Halloween party. Just snuggle yourself down on your couch or in bed and dive into Josie’s world. Trust me, you will not want to put this book down. As much as people may think that the author writes to shock, I think it is more to open people’s eyes to pertinent societal issues. And she mostly does so with humor. Look carefully, and you’ll get a glimpse of the Callaghans as well. For more details, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. This review was written based on a digital copy of the book from Bookouture.
Finding the love of your life can be difficult at the best of times, but when you’re parents are ex-porn stars (very prolific ex-porn stars!) and you help them now run their very popular Spicy shopping website it can feel almost impossible.
This is where we meet our protagonist Josie. And boy is she in for a ride!
Funny, sweet and at times downright embarrassing, Great Sexpectations was an absolute blast from start to finish!
Funny, full of heart and witty banter! Loved it from beginning to end and don't know why it took me so long to pick up.
Omg omg Omg omg it’s such a well written story with a dash of humour, adorable characters, fun storyline and, sweeping romance. I couldn’t get enough it. So definitely it was a 5 stars read for me
Josie runs her the family business, a sex shop started by her ex-porn star parents. She’s been unlucky in love as exes have found this off-putting. She meets Cameron at a party so lies about her background. You can guess how one white lie snowballs.
Great Sexpectations is one fun romp. Normally I’m. It a fan of a character telling lies which snowballs and you wait for it to all fall apart, but this was cleverly tackled by author Kristen Bailey. My only quibble, would be that the opening chapter did drag on, I wanted the action to move a bit faster, but once it picked up I was hooked.
A riotous romp that should not be read in public, Kristen Bailey’s Great Sexpectations is the funniest book you will read this year!
Relationships are strictly off the agenda for Josie! Her last boyfriend dumped her by leaving her a note on the fridge and since then, Josie had vowed to steer clear of men and not to let anyone close. Nothing and nobody is going to dissuade Josie to lower her guard and give romance another try – until she goes to a party and finds herself falling for gorgeous Cameron who turns up wearing the same Ghostbusters costume as her! Could this be Cupid’s way of telling her that the time has come to abandon her stubborn resolution to stay single?
Cameron couldn’t be more perfect if he tried! The curly-haired games designer is not only handsome, but he also shares her passion for movies and has the same encyclopaedic knowledge as Josie when it comes to all things cinematic. Could she finally have a Hollywood ending of her own? Or is there going to be a final jaw-dropping twist which Josie couldn’t have possibly predicted?
The more time Josie spends with Cameron, the more she falls in love with him. But Josie hasn’t been completely honest with him. Her previous boyfriends had run for the hills when she told them that she still lived at home with her former adult entertainer parents and that she works in their sex toy empire. Telling a little white lie is not going to hurt anyone…or will it?
When the truth inevitably comes out, what will Cameron do? Will he bolt leaving Josie with just her dog for company? Will he stick around? Or will he end up springing one final surprise on Josie?
Kristen Bailey gets even more hilarious with every book she writes. Great Sexpectations is an absolute scream and I was clutching my sides and reading through the tears as I was roaring with laughter. Great Sexpectations is an uplifting, feel-good and delightful romantic comedy with fantastic characters, witty repartee, red-hot chemistry and plenty of heart.
A fantastic romantic read from a writer who always delivers, Great Sexpectations is the latest winner from Kristen Bailey.
Josie's parents are ex porn stars who now own a sex shop.
When Josie meets Charlie at a party she lies about her parents and her job.
What could go wrong with a relationship started on lies?
I actually really liked this. It's barely under 300 pages so it's a quick read.
I CANNOT STOP SMILING! This book had me grinning from ear to ear! I really adore Josie and her family and I find them so loveable. Cameron as well! I'm not sure if I'll be able to describe my feelings towards this book! If anybody looks for a sex positive, hilarious romcom with cute moments and great characters, that's the book for you!
If you’re looking for a sex positive, fun romcom read with of laughs, cute moments and great characters then look no further than this book. I binged it in a matter of hours because I just refused to put it down. Full of laugh out loud moments, a crash course in sex toys, and so much more, this book is definitely not one for the prudish. I absolutely loved every page of this book and I can't wait to read more of Bailey's books. Great Sexpectations was filled with fantastic cast of characters. I loved the chemistry between Josie and Cameron, and their favourite film being Ghostbusters! Also, Josie's parents, the ex-porn stars were just such a great addition to this book. All in all, definitely will recommend. Sexpectations fulfilled!
4.5
Such a unique and hilarious concept that you will tear up with laughter. The book was just everything I except when they say it's a hilarious rom com. Can we just take a moment and appreciate the relationship b/w Josie's mom and dad. Like if they aren't the funniest ever. He mother is a BABEEE! Not to mention the way, Josie and Cameron met was epic. I was snort laughing and wheezing while reading this book. It must come with a warning of eating and drink while reading at your own risk. And not to read it in public too. Only I know what it felt like to have people look at me dying of laughter in a metro. I was officially declared insane!
Apart from all of this, the unique topic of the book brought up such a unspoken and shall I say: taboo topic of sex and society. I just loved it so god damnn muchhhh😭💋
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC.I almost DNF this book. I didn’t really like the romance between the characters it just felt like it all happened too fast with no tension or build up. I did love the relationship she had with her family and co workers! I also love how feisty she is to his family but like if she is that confident to talk about sex to strangers and not care what they think then why can’t she be like that with her career to everyone. It also was irritating how it seemed like she had so much in common with Cameron and liked him a lot but her ex kept coming up in the book for no reason other to show us she still seemed hung up on him. I also felt like the ending was very rushed.
I really liked Kristen Bailey's previous novels so I was excited to read a new one, even though it's not part of the same series as Can I Give My Husband Back and the other books about the Callaghan sisters. I enjoyed the awkward, geeky romance and laughed a few times while reading it.
This book started out quite well. It's well written and funny in parts. I even laughed out loud a few times and that's a true marvel when a book has me in out loud hysterics. But as the book progressed I found myself less and less enthused by the content.
The entire premise of the book was the female mc keeping this major secret about herself, her job and her family a lie from the male lead who she met at a party. She gets her entire family to lie on her behalf, fake names and made up stories about their lives to boot and I found myself wondering at what point does this stop being simple, harmless white lies and turn cruel? The longer she took to tell him the truth, the more anxious I became. This was a major turn off for me.
Also, for a book that has sex in the title you'd think it'd be more spicy. It was sort of the fade to black kind of spicy and I'm not prejudice, I enjoy either kind of heated scenes but given this book's content, I expected out in the light, throbbing, pulsating, raunchy kind of sex scenes. There was a just whole lot of sexual innuendo, which at one point, felt like too much.
This book was well enough written and entertaining to a degree. The plot just really rankled me and took away from the entire experience. I get why she chose to lie in the beginning and why she kept it up a little along the way, but she should've told the truth once things felt serious. I could sympathise with her fears, but I still felt like she was being cruel because Cameron, who is described as looking like Timothy Chalamet, so obviously he is a teddybear, didn't deserve any of that. But the sweet ending got that extra half star.
I loved everything about this rom-com! It's super fun, it has a lot of cute moments, and it even has a little bit of spice. So good! I loved all of the characters most of all (even the bad guys, yeah). They're not shallow, you can see real people with all of their nice traits, insecurities, etc. while reading this book.
Today was my turn to hop onto the Great Sexpectations tour bus and what a ride (😜) it was!!
Another fantastic book from the fabulous @kristenbaileywrites
I will admit I was a tad worried it wouldn’t live up to her previous books based on the fictional Callaghan sisters (Has Anyone Seen My Sex life, Can I Give My Husband Back, Did My Love Life Shrink In The Wash, How Much Wine Will Fix My Broken Heart and Am I Allergic To Men) which I absolutely loved but I needn’t have been because again she’s smashed it outta the park!
This book was brilliant, laugh out loud funny with great characters…not just the main characters but the supporting ones too!
There were gasps (😜), moments of oh crap that did not happen! Times of shouting at the page ‘tell him nowwww’, or ‘yikes the cats about to be let out the bag!’ But also touches on the vulnerable side of things and it’s refreshing to have both in a book not just solely focused on one emotion!
This book had alllll the sex talk (as you can imagine from the title) and it felt like such a positive and empowering side to sex and sex education which again is very rare to see/read.
I would highly recommend this beaut
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 from me!
Josie was dumped via a note on the fridge and since then hasn't wanted to get close to anyone.
But at a Halloween party she meets Cameron and can't resist falling in love with him.
The only problem is Josie lied to Cameron
about her ex porn star parents and her job at there sex toy empire.
I binged this book in a few hours. Great
characters, laugh out loud moments and a
crash course in sex toys.
If you are looking for a rom com that gives you all the feels then this is the book for you.
