This story is addictive. The characters are well developed.
The ending was predictable. I did enjoy the book.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

I really love books like The Day We Died. I'm always a fan of books with main characters that are thrown into situations that tie into the trauma of their pasts. The book starts off with a bang and I read the entire thing in just a few short sittings. I really connected with Sydney and the murder mystery was engaging. I'm really glad to see the author is turning this into a series. I did have a review copy and the formatting was hard to get through, there were odd breaks and missing words/letters. I also would've preferred a more twist-filled ending.

Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC.

I think Wendy Owens has a great writing style and I enjoyed how she constructed this mystery. It was fast paced and I certainly wanted to continue reading it to figure the mystery out. Many people said they picked the murderer out before the book ended, but I didn't fully do that! I think Wendy's series will be one I look for in the future!

This is a new author to me and I’m glad I took a chance. Very intriguing story that had me hooked. Sydney’s father was a serial killer and now there is some copy cat. This story had me from page one. Definitely will be checking out more stories by this author.

Wow, this author has a great writing style. Even though I did predict the murderer it took no shine off the book.

What a phenomenal start to a brand new series. I thought this book was terrifying. I couldn't put it down. It was wildly thrilling.

Sydney Booth was just a child when her father was arrested for some horrific crimes. Her mother and her, terrorized and blamed by their neighbors, took on new identities and gave one to her younger brother, who was too young to remember anything, vowing never to tell him about the monster he came from. Twenty-some years later, the family is living happily and anonymously, when Sydney, a crime scene tech suddenly arrives at a what looks like familiar murder scene: one straight out of her father’s playbook. Then another. But with her father long gone, who is committing these heinous crimes? And does their appearance mean the Booth’s identities have been compromised?

This was a quick read, I got through it in two days. It was a really interesting premise: daughter of a serial killer sees a repeat of her crimes playing out, so it makes her already paranoid personality go into overdrive. And while there are plenty of red herrings as suspects, I figured this one out about 50 percent of the way through the book. It was fairly obvious.

But I didn’t let that stop me from keep reading! Some of the fun is also seeing what other little twists are in there, and how it’s all going to turn out. And this one continues to have surprises and reveals until the end. I suggest even if, like me, you solve the mystery, to keep reading - it’s worth it!

Also, this appears to be the first in a new series, and I will definitely be picking up the next in it! I can’t wait - and you shouldn’t either in picking up this book!

Thrilling read! I was able to connect with all of the characters and throughly enjoyed the story the author painted.

I finished this book in 2 days as I just HAD to know who the murderer was!

Great writing made this both entertaining and a page turner.

A seemingly copycat serial killer story will get me every time. That's like sociopath on top of sociopath behavior!

I guessed the killer pretty early on but it was fun to follow the paths that the author takes the reader down, casting suspicion on different characters throughout the book.

Check this one out if you enjoy fast paced Thrillers! Glad that this is a book 1 of a new series. I'll be patiently waiting for Book 2.

4.5 stars

I absolutely loved this start to the Sydney Booth series. I wasn't sure what to expect but I fell in love with this authors writing style immediately. I was drawn in from the very beginning and it didn't stop until the last page.
The criminal analysis aspect was fantastic and one I hadn't read before. The addition of being a serials daughter just made the book that much more intriguing.
I thought I had things figured out and in some ways I had but it turned out so different that I anticipated. That's what makes a perfect thriller in my eyes.
I can't wait for the next installment of the Sydney Booth series next month!!

This is the first in a new series by Wendy Owens. I have read several of Owen’s previous psychological thrillers and enjoyed them. This one features a crime scene technician, Sydney Booth, who has kept her background as the daughter of a serial killer a secret from everyone, including her brother who was a baby when their father was arrested as the notorious Lipstick Killer. So now at a crime scene Sydney is stunned at the staged positioning of the victim’s body along with a similar lipstick that was her fathers signature. Does she tell the dept, the FBI, her family? Or dies she go it alone in case someone is trying to frame her? Interesting plot, fast paced, and although I fingered the killer early on, still a decent read,

Family tragedy, family secrets and lies and so much more!
Trying to unravel the family secrets and determining who is a suspect kept me on the edge of my seat!
The start of a promising new series.

A great psychological thriller.

This story had me hooked from beginning to end. It was full of suspense.

Sydney has moved on with her life. Her childhood wasn’t the easiest, but she’s finally happy. She loves her job as Crime Science Technician, and has put the past behind her. That is until the past comes to haunt her.

Exciting start to this series. Looking forward to reading more.

This is my first book by Wendy Owens and I really really enjoyed it! It definitely won't be my last! It's a psychological thriller with a little bit of romance. The writing is great! I was able to finish this in one sitting. I really couldn't put it down! It is a fast paced story with plenty of twists and turns. I was able to predict the ending but that didn't take anything away from the story!

I had a really hard time getting into this book. It was just a bit choppy for me and it really didn’t have any twister or turns. It was quite easy to figure out who the serial killer was. The premise of the book had some promise but it took a familiar path when it could have gone in a very unique direction.

A brilliant quick read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Sydney is a brilliant and multifaceted protagonist and this character alone made the book brilliant to read.

This latest offering from Wendy Owens had me gripped from the start trying to guess if the heroine would figure out who the killer was before she became his latest victim. Years before after her father was sentenced to death for the murder of 37 women, Rachel Simmons died and Sydney Booth was created. In fear for her own life and those of her children her mother changed their names and moved far from their home town, cutting all ties with family to live in obscurity and some semblance of peace.. Now Sydney is working as a CSI and her latest case is eerily familiar. Is there a copycat killer at work and if so do they know who Sydney really is or is it merely a bizarre coincidence?

The Day We Died was a quick read, only just over two hundred pages in length but it is full of twists and turns, ramping up the suspense and tension as Sydney suspects everyone she comes into contact with while fearing the exposure of her family’s dark secret. If truth be told it was a bit predictable who the copycat killer was but personally I think the whole purpose of this book was more to introduce the character of Sydney Booth to the world and set the scene for a new series than be a classic whodunnit. No matter what I’m definitely interest in reading more about this character.
