The idea of this is good, but rhyme might not be the best format for the information. Apologies to the author, but the rhymes were a bit awkward. They did, however, give a good overview of the signs, giving positive traits of each that paired well with the cute and fun illustrations. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me review this story. My opinions are entirely my own.
This is a sweet book about the zodiac and the beautiful babies who are born under it's signs. I enjoyed each poem but I wished the book flowed more. I love the writing style and subject, something just seemed off with the flow
This is definitely cute. The illustrations are lively and sweet, with lots of fun detail. Each sun sign is introduced in child-centric terms, though verse. The unique attributes and strengths of each sign are emphasized with a positive, hopeful tone. Adorable as this is, it's mostly a novelty book geared toward parents rather than babies. It would make a fun shower gift, but it doesn't seem the type of book you'd actually read with a child regularly.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
BABY’S FIRST ZODIAC is too high concept and text heavy to keep a baby’s interest or be developmentally appropriate. It could work better as a picture book instead of a board book. The poems for each sign are cute, but the rhymes tended toward slant rhymes which are not understood or helpful for intended audience of this book. The two things this book have in its favor are: the adult sharing this book with the child is probably very interested in the subject matter and would therefore transmit a message of enjoying reading and the illustrations feature large expressive faces that do draw babies’ attention.
What a gem of a book - I adore this! Literally everything about it. The illustrations and colours are beautiful and the rhyming text is lovely.
I absolutely love that the planet, constellation, element and symbol is included in the beautiful artwork for each sign. Libra had hot air balloons - gorgeous!
Perfect for the mum or dad who loves astrology and wants to open up the world of the stars to their bub.
*(FYI - There is one tiny line about Geminis being born in spring rain, which doesn't align with those of us in the southern hemisphere - but it honestly wouldn't stop me from purchasing this book for the little ones in my life).
This is a really fun and delightful little rhyming (sort of) book for little ones about their signs. The art is charming and it actually fit the people in my life. I tried to review it on Goodreads as well but it is not listed there (another book with the same title by another author is). The publisher should enter the book and its info on GR to help spread the word.
I thought this was an absolutely adorable book to have for your kiddos. Each sign was wonderfully represented in a way that kids could enjoy it. It wasn't overly informational. I would purchase this for my kids.
Please help the book be made available at Aldiko app. I m facing issues with downloading otherwise. Thank you.
This is a very sweet book, with well written verses and lovely illustrations. If you want to introduce your child to the zodiac, this book would make a splendid gift. For yours truly, a Gemini, it says: Little Gemini, you were born in spring rain with your heart wide open and so much to say, asking all the big questions, like How tall is the sky? What is time? Can I learn how to fly? You're known far and wide for your love of adventure, ready to take on each day in any kind of weather."
There is nothing objectionable here, and the book can be read as a book of poetry.
And it is accurate. About my wife, Taurus, it says her days are filled with "the scent of bread baking." She is, indeed, a bread baker.
So, there you have it.
