The second in an intended trilogy, Only a Pawn by Marie W Watts is inspired by the author’s own experience of once working for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The Warriors For Equal Rights series is a team of people investigating discrimination in the workplace, struggling with budget shortfalls, unsupportive management and imminent threats of closure. Initially, their office is subjected to a federal audit and then a brutal House Subcommittee grilling with a Congressman wanting to expose them for political gain. Ironically, each individual character has their own personal battles and represents a disadvantaged minority. An enjoyable narrative, if values rather than the story’s importance prevail. Overall, an average legal thriller with a three star rating. With thanks to NetGalley and the author, for an uncorrected advanced reader copy for review purposes.
