This book grabbed a part of my heart & took it through every level of emotion. There is a reason Helena Hunting is an automatic one-click author for me!! I love the emotional growth between the 2MCs, and I love the way the daughter was written, not too childish and not too mature, it’s a hard balance to find with authors. It isn’t a true second chance romance, but it’s not not. Absolutely a must read!!
Harley and Gavin's love story in Make A Wish by Helena Hunting, book three in her Spark House series, a beautiful conclusion to three sisters' stories, a combines the stress of running a business with all that entails; dreams, goals, creative genius with the delicate balancing act of trying to live your life and finding happiness one deserves. It is an amazing and heartbreaking story of family, relationships, and acceptance; a single dad, and an age-gap; misunderstanding and mistrust; drama and heartbreak; romance, passion, love. We witness youngest sister Harley struggling to find her place at Spark House as they grow, especially with franchise opportunities possible, and her desire to return to working with children. While her sisters, Avery and London, have a great business sense, Harley has that special ability to connect with others; especially with children. She loves kids and helping to grow their creative side.
At the last children's birthday party at Spark House, before cutting the service, due to costs, Harley runs into Peyton, a now-nine year old she nannied for as an infant, and, her incredibly handsome father, Gavin. The last time she saw Gavin, she was 20 years old and he was grieving the death of his wife. Harley made the mistake of trying to kiss him, or him kiss her, sending Gavin and Peyton across the state to live near his in-laws. With his father wanting to retire, Gavin needed to return in order to do his job. For Peyton’s sake, Gavin and Harley become friends. Despite their age difference, Gavin never forgot Harley, and their connection is just as strong now as it was before. It is a complicated connection as Gavin’s torn between his love for his daughter, wanting her to be happy, and the guilt he feels from the loss of his wife. Then there’s the jealousy of his controlling mother-in-law, who sabotages any relationship Gavin enters. Then there was Harley. She wanted to be loved and wanted. She already loss so much and refused to settle for less. It was wonderful to witness Harley finally finding her voice and standing up for herself: whether to Gavin or her sisters and their plans for Spark House; as it was for Gavin to realize his love for Harley.
Ms. Hunting wrote an emotional, wonderful, heartwarming romance that kept me turning the pages as I followed the twist and turns of Harley and Gavin’s relationship. She provided a tale rich with magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, clever banter, and the magic of family and friends, giving Gavin, Peyton and Harley a chance at love, happiness, and a future neither expected. I highly recommend Make a Wish to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
We've seen the two older Spark sisters get their HEA, and now it's Harley's turn!
Years ago, Harley worked for a recently widowed Gavin, serving as nanny for a toddler aged Peyton. An almost kiss between Harley and Gavin seemingly sent Gavin (and Peyton) running, and Harley didn't see them again for 7 years. Now he's back, and what starts as wanting to spend time with Peyton quickly turns into enjoying her dad's company too.
Make A Wish is similar to the other books in this series in that it is lighter on the comedy and steam but heavier on the emotion that some of the other books from this author. There's definitely some laughs in this story, but with a guilt-ridden single dad still dealing with grief over his wife's death in childbirth and Harley trying to find her place with Spark House and with Gavin, the emotional moments are strong here.
Both Gavin and Harley are well-rounded, layered characters that you can't help but root for. Even Gavin's daughter Peyton is well written. I don't love RL kids, but I do adore a single dad romance. Unfortunately, sometimes the children in those stories are barely more than a prop in the story, but that's definitely not the case here.
As this series wraps up, it was great to catch up with the other Spark sisters and their SO's and catch a glimpse of the future of Spark House. Overall, Make A Wish is a very heartwarming, satisfying end to an enjoyable series.
You guys know I DEVOUR anything that @helenahunting gives us. Today we get this gem!
This is the finale of the Sparks sisters and we go out with a bang.
Harley loves kids and when she was nineteen she nannied a recently widowed father to the most adorable little girl, Peyton. The only problem, the daddy Gavin is hot....and Harley also kissed him.
Years later Harley and Gavin are back in the same town and sparks are definitely flying. Try as they may to keep them at bay, things are failing.
The swoon, steam, and chaos is sure to make you melt in this finale.
Harley is just the sweetest soul. Gavin is the definition of a ZADDY. 😂 Peyton is just the sweetest, and of course we get Hunting's signature writing style which is simply *chefs kiss*.
Thank you to the publisher @stmartinspress and the author for the gifted advance copy. All thoughts are my own!

I’ve loved this entire series, but I don’t think I was prepared for how much I’d love Harley’s story.
Years ago, Harley was a nanny for a single dad who had recently lost his wife during childbirth. Harley had fallen for his little girl, Peyton, but eventually started to fall for him too – until he decided they were moving and she would no longer be part of their life. Blaming herself for the past seven years, the last thing Harley expects is for Gavin and Peyton to show up at a child’s birthday party she’s throwing at her family event hall, Spark House. After reconnecting, Harley begins helping out with Peyton again, although informally, and sparks begin to fly – and not just the ones at Spark House.
Gavin and Harley have a lot of baggage to sift through, but their connection is amazing and I love how Hunting is able to not only write a caring and emotionally distraught father, but also an adorable little girl with so much personality.
If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend it. I think this one might be my favorite one so far.
Tropes:
🥰 Single Dad
🥰 Nanny to more
🥰 Second chance romance
I absolutely adored Harley’s book!!! The relationship between Harley and Gavin is great but the one with Harley and Peyton I LOVED!!! Harley was Peyton’s nanny when she was a baby/toddler and when lines started blurring Gavin and Peyton moved away. Fast forward to now when Harley is doing a Princess party at her family’s hotel and Peyton comes in she’s in shock. I loved every minute of this book I could barely put it down. Loved finally getting Harley’s story.
Book 3 in this series has left me completely satisfied.
It was so beautifully written. I loved the instant family dynamic between the trio, the depth of the hurt and loss that Gavin deals with to this day, the love that Harley provides.
Make A Wish also gave Harley that chance to shine. It let her show her purpose and dreams with Spark House, which gives us so much more to who she truly is.
Lots of feels with this one 💛
I adore this series and this book is so wonderful, warm and sweet…as the final book in the trilogy is wraps up the sisters stories so wonderfully. This has so many wonderful tropes - single dad, age gap, nanny, 2nd chance and friends to lovers. Helena blends all these tropes together into a wonderful love story. Harley and Gavin are great characters..takes them a bit to figure out their relationship but once they do it’s wonderful. Gavin’s daughter Peyton plays a big role in them coming together - she is adorable and sweet. As with all stories, the couple goes through some challenges..however, these two face some big obstacles they have to navigate. A fantastic story that can be read as a standalone but I suggest reading the other books in the series to learn about the other sisters. Jason Clarke and Stella Bloom do an amazing job with this story. Jason’s voice is so deep, dreamy and wonderful. Stella’s voice is so sweet and strong - her Payton voice is awesome! They bring a range of emotions and personality to each of these characters.
Harley & Gavin
Second time around an be a little tricky, especially when there is a young child involved.
Seven years is a long time when you’re young. A long time to think of a love that could never be. Harley is in this very predicament. She has never forgotten her first love, Gavin, and his young daughter, Peyton, who both left, out of her life.
Fast forward seven years and there they both are, right in front of her at Spark House, her family’s business, at a birthday party Harley is hosting for a client. I love how Harley is the ultimate entertainer for the guests of Spark House, more specifically for the children who love her parties. She’s not afraid to blend in and play characters to make the parties more real and alive for the children.
Harley is on an emotional roller coaster with her sweet reunion with Peyton, she hasn’t seen her since Peyton was a baby and Harley her nanny. Gavin has a huge unexpected learning curve when it comes to seeing Harley again and navigating his feelings for her. For Harley, she gets to love Peyton again and re-fall-in-love with Gavin all while finding her new place within Spark House and the new direction the family business is going. Angsty much? Oh, boy!
It’s intense, frustrating, and laughable all in one glorious, energetic story. I love, love, love it!
Make a Wish is the third and final book in the Spark House series. This contemporary romance is about the youngest Spark sister, Harley.
Twenty year old Harley used to nanny for Peyton when she was a baby. Peyton’s father, Gavin, was grieving the loss of his wife when Harley mistakenly tried to kiss him. Soon after, Gavin and Peyton moved away from Colorado Springs and she hasn’t seen either of them since.
Now, seven years later, they have moved back and Harley soon sees them at a birthday party Spark House is hosting. Soon, Gavin is calling on her to meet up with Peyton (and him) as she is a familiar face for Peyton. This leads to feelings for both Gavin and Harley, though Gavin has some issues regarding his deceased wife that he is still working through. Plus, he has a “Karen” of a mother-in-law that is not helping him move on. (Appropriately named Karen- LOL)
This is an enjoyable finale to the trilogy. Both Harley and Gavin are easy to root for. I did wish that he would have stood up to his mother-in-law a little earlier than he did. It was not fair to Harley how Karen was treating her.
Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The third book in this series was amazing! I have loved each of these books and I'm sad to see it end. Gavin and Harley are so great together. The banter, chemistry, friendship and companionship between them was so great! The friendship between Harley and Gavin's daughter is adorable. This couple doesn't have an easy road to happily ever after but they work through it and make it out stronger in the end.
I loved getting glimpses of London, Jackson, Avery and Declan and their little ones in this book as well.
This series is full of heart and I devoured each book.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Spark House sisters and their journeys.
Harley loves kids and when her former employer and his daughter move back to Colorado Springs they reconnect.
I loved the scene between Chad and Gavin, two guys circling each other. As Harley and Gavin explore a relationship his past losses, MIL, and unresolved issues with his wife’s death present major impediments. Can they make it work?
It’s a fitting conclusion for a trilogy that I love and will dearly miss.
Excuse me whilst I wipe away all these fat tears rolling down my face because of how perfect and emotional this story was.
I think…no I KNOW Harley is by far my favourite Spark sister.
Whew..now I need a few minutes to gather my thoughts…
Harley is a precious and loveable woman. She cares for everyone, sees the positive in everything and will help anyone with anything she can help with, she’s instantly likeable. She loves kids and helping grow their creative side.
Her relationship with Gavin is complex. It’s easy, it’s hard but it just feels right. Their connection was instant and easy even if it’s at the wrong time.
Gavin was an amazing man. His love for the cutie that is Peyton shone brightly throughout this book. He’s a dad, a dad that wants his little girl to be happy. He’s kind and caring and the perfect kind of dad.
Harley and Gavin’s story is swoon worthy. It’s emotional and heartbreaking yet beautiful at the same time. I’m not going to lie, the tears came to my eyes a few times, I got so attached to them all.
I don’t want to go into much detail to spoil it for anyone so I’ll cap it here.
Make a Wish is a single dad , age-gap romance. It’s emotional and addictive and one you’ll need to read.
H. Hunting knows how to write a book that’ll have your attention from the get go, this book sure does!
Ahh this author never fails to dissapoint, Gavin, Harley and Peyton just gave me all the feels I swooned so much. A great read.
Spark House has flourished under the management of the Spark sisters, and they are on their way to expanding the business. With their eyes on franchising, Harley, the youngest of the sisters, has started to question her place in the endeavor, especially as her role begins to shrink. Along with trying to find where she belongs professionally, her personal life gets a little more complicated when she reconnects with a man who previously hired her as a live-in nanny for his daughter.
It was enlightening to learn more about Harley, especially because Avery initially introduced Harley as a rather disagreeable person in the first book and it stuck with me. Harley is very giving of herself and her time, especially when it relates to children. I’m a sucker for the cute kid trope, so it helped me to form a more rounded picture of who Harley is. Her patience with Peyton, her love interest's daughter, and their immediate bond greatly endeared her to me.
Gavin is a wonderful dad with his commitment to Peyton and willingness to dress in tutus, but I was conflicted about him as a love interest. I had swoony moments, but I also had moments of uncertainty about his feelings. It felt like he often abused Harley's willingness to watch Peyton, whether intentionally or not. Additionally, his feelings for her were often overshadowed by his feelings about how much he appreciated Harley's relationship with his daughter. It is hard to disentangle the two, but I wanted more of how he also loved her as her own person.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and appreciated the series. Readers who enjoy books about single fathers and are a fan of the cute kid trope may enjoy the book. (3.5 stars rounded to 4 stars)
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the last book in a three-part series. It easily stands alone. This is an age gap, nanny sort of romance, and single dad romance plus its also a second chance at love for this couple.
The story begins 8 years before when Harley is a young girl of 20 and she is nannying for Gavin who is 29. He is a young single dad whose wife died in childbirth. She has been working for him for the last 18 months and she has a huge crush on him. They have a moment shall we say, and then she never sees him again until 8 years later at Spark House.
Gavin and Peyton have moved back to town and Peyton falls very hard for Harley so much, so she begs her dad for playdates and that starts Harley and Gavin's relationship.
There are some issues along the way to their happily ever after like a boyfriend and a Mother In Law and what Harley wants for her future and Gavin has some major things to figure out too.
This was a really well-done romance. I liked that the author threw some obstacles in the way that were realistic and made their journey to second chance to love more realistic. A really awesome way for this series to end.
I love the Make a Wish series - it focuses on three sisters continuing their family’s legacy, Spark House, a boutique hotel, their work together, and their trials and tribulations in love. Harley’s story might just be my favorite!
Seven years ago, Harley was the live-in nanny for Gavin after his wife passed away during childbirth. After Gavin and daughter Peyton moved to live closer to family, Harley pivoted to join her sisters at Spark House, but has never felt like she fit there as well as they did. Now Gavin and Peyton are back, and want Harley part of their life again.
I loved the focus on Harley’s personal and career growth, and her finding her place as part of Spark House throughout the book. Harley and Peyton’s relationship was so sweet, too. And of course, Gavin and Harley were so great together! Their second chance was lovely - though Gavin had some major issues to work through. I found this book super sweet, a little spicy, and hard to put down!
I received an advanced review copy of Make a Wish, receipt of which did not impact my review.
Harley Spark loved her time as a nanny, but after a near mistake with the single dad she nannied for she decided it was time to take a break when her sisters needed help to rejuvenate Spark House. Her own dreams on hold for years, she is beginning to feel like she doesn’t quite fit in the roles left for her at Spark House. When Gavin and Peyton move back to town, it feels natural to become part of their lives once again. But will this just be one more mistake in a string Harley feels she’s made?
Gavin Rhodes is back in town after seven years of expanding his family’s business and living near his in-laws. He loves the idea of getting to know Harley again, especially because Peyton has latched on to her as if she remembers her from her infancy.
Gavin is a fantastic single dad: devoted, worried, and careful to surround Peyton with plenty of love. But he was a little clueless at times in a few aspects of his life, which often left me frustrated at his actions (or inaction as the case may be). He had a lot of baggage that he had never dealt with and as it was revealed exactly how much he was carrying, it definitely explained some of the things that had frustrated me.
Harley is struggling to find her place in her family business and also to find true joy in her relationship. She has a boyfriend, but it quickly becomes clear that they are not a good match for more than a short time.
This was an age gap, second chance, sweet story that repeatedly centered on healing the past and finding one’s true path. There are a lot of discoveries made throughout the book by all of the characters that led to a deeper story than I was anticipating at the beginning.
Harley Spark throws princess themed birthday parties for a living, at her family’s event hotel. When Gavin Rhodes shows up at the hotel for an event with his nine year old daughter Peyton, Harley wants to crawl into a hole. Harley used to be Peyton’s nanny. Sure it was years ago, but it ended when lines were blurred and she almost kissed the then newly widowed Gavin. Now that Gavin and Peyton are back they want to spend time with Harley, but could it lead to more than friendship this time?
While this is the final book in the Spark House trilogy, it can definitely be read as a standalone.
I always enjoy how this author finds a way to blend just the right amount of humor, charm, and sweetness to her stories.
I adored Gavin’s bond with his daughter Peyton. Tutus and tea parties! I mean come on! It was just so sweet.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes single dad friends to lovers romances. Be prepared for a small age gap as well - though nothing too extreme, at least for me.
*Thank you to St Martin’s Press and the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
