Popcorn 🍿 anyone?! I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book! An easy read, thriller with a smidge of romance. With great focus on mental health.
Just finished this book, and I immediately had to come on here and rave about it. I highly recommend adding this book to your “Want To Read” list and reading it as soon as it comes out! I had high hopes considering how much I love other Sally Hepworth books, but this exceeded all of my expectations. Most psychological thrillers have a big suspense leading up to one major jaw dropping twist, but this one had so many throughout the entire book. I couldn’t put it down! 10/10 - Highly recommend.
The alternating narrators who tell their story from both the "then" and "now" perspectives really aided the propulsive feel of this one. The setting also acts as a character which pulls you in and provides the perfect amount of tension. Props to Hepworth for the masterfully timed surprise! This is a great escapist read and would be perfect beach reading.
This was a good read full of mystery and small twists keeping you turning the pages at a consistent rate. The author did a really good job bringing the story together at the end.
Another good thriller by Sally Hepworth. The soulmate keeps you wanting to know what happens. The back and forth between then and now with multiple narrators can get confusing at times. Enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC.
Gripping psychological thriller with an unreliable narrator. Dual POV in both past and present. So many twists and turns and a lot of unpredictability. I never knew where this one was headed. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
This was a great read. I was actively going through a reading slump at the time of reading this book so it took me quite a while but once I got 40% through I was hooked and finished it in a weekend. The twists kept coming and every time I thought I figured it out, there was something else through the entire book. I also loved the ending which I don’t usually , but I felt like everything was answered and ended the way you’d want it to. I’d recommend this book and I will be purchasing it for my own library when it releases. Thanks to NetGalley for the read .
I FLEW through this one!! A super fast-paced and twisty thriller in a unique setting off the coast of Australia. You’re immediately thrown into the mix of things and the book takes off running with a somewhat questionable suicide taking place at the cliffs by our MCs home. From there, I COULD NOT stop reading. I finished this book in two sittings and I’m convinced that if I had picked it up on a Saturday I wouldn’t have put it down at all. Twists around every corner and I saw none of them coming. I absolutely recommend to fans of thrillers or domestic dramas. One of the most gripping thrillers I’ve read in months!
This one is so hard for me to rate. I have loved her books I’ve read so far. I struggled a bit with this one. I for some reason struggled to connect really to the characters. And i felt it was a tad over detailed. And it seemed obvious that it was bipolar rather than ADHD affecting Gabe. But i did enjoy the cliff hangers at the end of each chapter that propelled me to the next and the chapters being short made it read very quickly. There was some twists i didn’t see coming in this story. I think this book is the most thriller ish of her books that I’ve read thus far. I feel like she does well with in-capturing mental illness and i always appreciate how well she discusses them and portrays them.
Thinking 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
I am a huge Sally Hepworth fan; I love her writing! My fave of hers is The Mother’s Promise, which is drastically different than her most popular books, which are thrillers. This thriller in particular started out so strong and contained some of my favorite thriller elements (will talk more on these in my full IG review @chandlersbooknook), but the twist missed the mark for me, sadly. I was expecting something huuuuge/shocking to be revealed, but the twist wasn’t super satisfying IMO :( I also have a huge burning question after finishing that didn’t get answered, that I feel like I’ll always wonder about/be frustrated to not know?!
I did find that I flew through the chapters though; I read it in just 2 days amidst wedding planning and work busyness. If you like more “mystery” plots (def more of that feel than thriller feel) and need something quick, I may recommend trying this one.
This book was a good thriller. I like Sally Hepworth's books. It made you wonder what exactly happened when Amanda went over the cliff. I felt bad for Gabe's wife, and what she was going through. Overall, a good thriller with a surprise I didn't see coming.
I love Sally Hepworth, and The Soulmate did not disappoint. Check it out because it publishes soon.
A medium pace read, it hooked me from the start. Even though there were a few spots that slowed for me (that could have also been a result of multiple distractions while reading this one), I never once lost interest. The multiple POVs were easy to follow as well as the multiple timeline (Past/Present). It was just twisty enough to keep you wo dering if you really have it figured out or not, and the twist in the end was a good one.
Trigger warnings: suicide and mental illness
Thank you, NetGalley, and St. Martin's Press for the ARC and opportunity to provide an honest review.
They bought a house with a suicide cliff, but have managed to talk everyone off it so far until they don't. When the first person jumps, it's not a coincidence. The story that unfolds has us guessing which betrayal lead to which consequence and when the police will finally put it together. Deep and dark but in a twisted way where everyone gets their happy ending.
Wow! What an excellent thriller! I could not put this one down! The Soulmate is packed with twists and unexpected turns. What a wild ride. Sally Hepworth does it again.
Pippa and Gabe live a life everyone dreams of. Two perfect children, a loving family and undying love for one another. They live in a gorgeous house set on a cliff. The cliff is known to locals as The Drop. Sometimes, people will come here when they’ve decided to end their life. Gabe is a sort of hero because he’s known for convincing people to step off the ledge, quite literally. But one person will change all of that.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was an amazing book and had me on the edge of my seat always wanting more. I love dual POVS and this book was really just a home run.
I wanted to like this one so much but I struggled so hard to get into it. I couldn't connect with the character and there was something about the pacing that felt off. DNF @45%.
Such a fast, engrossing read! Marriage and murder? Yes! Pippa and Gabe seem to have the perfect marriage. But nothing is perfect. Living in a house by a notorious suicide cliff, Gabe is able to talk many out of ending their lives. But on this day, he didn’t. And why did it look to Pippa like he pushed her? Max and Amanda had a wonderful life together, until she discovered a secret that sent her to the suicide cliff and to her death. How are they connected? What did Gabe do? This book really highlights the complexities of marriage and the choices we make every day. I couldn’t put it down! Five stars!
The Soulmate was my first read by Sally Hepworth. I know after finishing this book it will not be my last!
I loved how this book was written in dual POV and dual timelines. I had a hard time putting this book down. Granted it did start off a bit slow for me but by the end I did not want it to end! It became very fast paced about a quarter way in and the twists and turns, wow!! I did not suspect the ending at all!!
I don’t want to give away too much about the story but all I will say is that I loved Amanda!
I really enjoyed this one! I read it in one pool sitting (the setting didn’t hurt!) and was here for all of the secrets and family drama that Hepworth does so well! Would definitely recommend for fans of Sally Hepworth, mystery lovers, and anyone looking for a good poolside/beach read.
Short chapters with alternating perspectives in a thriller? Sign me up. This really sets the pace and keeps me wanting to read more - I feel like I’m flying through the pages and each perspective seems to give us piece by piece of the puzzle. This is even more enjoyable with the buzz of something deeper happening just below the surface. It seems like everyone has a secret to hide and they’re so interwoven that it’s hard to figure out if anyone is really trustworthy.
In the end, things really were not as they seemed and I did not anticipate how it would all play out! I really enjoyed the layers of the story and complexity of the drama, it kept me engaged throughout.
Thank you to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review! Full review on my IG @manis.and.manuscripts during pub week.
Sally Hepworth described her upcoming release, THE SOULMATE, as a “peculiar murderous love story” and she certainly delivered on that front. The story follows Gabe & Pippa, a married couple who live near a steep ocean overlook in Australia. While the location is dreamy, the ominous cliffs are a notorious spot for people looking to end their life.
On a tranquil evening at their beach cottage Gabe attempts to rescue a potential jumper on the cliffside. Pippa watches from inside as a horrifying scene unfolds: did Gabe have a hand in the woman’s death?
In true Sally Hepworth fashion, the chapters were compulsively readable and the characters had many layers to them. I loved the way she explored marriage and how well we know our spouse. In addition to the plentiful twists, the mental health representation was thoughtful and not glossed over.
I binged this page-turner poolside on vacation and it was exactly what I was in the mood for. Pick up THE SOULMATE if you enjoy coastal settings, dangerous cliffs and propulsive cliff hangers.
