The Soulmate was such an adventure to read. Full of suspense, family strife and plot twists abound. Just when you think you know what’s coming next you get thrown for a loop. A definite page turner. A five star read for 2023.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc
Gabe and Pippa live in a lovely ocean front home and have two charming little girls. From the outside looking in they are a young family who has it all. The cliff beyond their house is known as The Drop because it is a favored suicide spot, but Gabe and Pippa have become quite good at responding to and talking folks down from the edge. One night, however, a woman jumps under somewhat mysterious circumstances. This begins a string of events in which secret upon secret comes out in a twisty thrilling ride. There is mental illness, betrayal, infidelity and marriages are tested. Well written, engaging, and well paced. This one is difficult to put down.
This book took me surprise. It resonated me in ways I wasn’t expecting. Love how the relationship of both couples were revealed to the reader. I didn’t think the big scandal of the affair/kiss and the mystery funds were enough to warrant the “suicide” or wanting to get rid of the USB. I was expecting a more dramatic reveal as to “why”. Nonetheless, this book was wonderful.
This is an exciting, edge-of-your-seat thriller by an author I'm growing to love more and more with every book! In the Soulmate, a husband and wife are dealing with a crisis in their lives. A woman jumps from the cliff behind their house and they must deal with the emotional turmoil that comes after. The husband tried and failed to talk her off the cliff. As he refuses to deal with the situation, his wife begins to become suspicious. Did he know the woman? I was so curious to find out what the secret was that I flew through the book! It is a definite page-turner! Highly recommend.
My first Sally Hepworth book was an absolute banger! This book had me hooked from the start. I feel like I went into this relatively blindly, but even if I hadn’t, there’s no way I would have figured out these twists. I loved the dual timelines and dual perspectives, though I will admit I sometimes forgot which character was narrating. The setting was super atmospheric, and the slow burn kept me totally hooked. The ending might not be everyone’s favorite, but I personally loved it and found it incredibly different from most thrillers. This will be a hit for all domestic thriller fans, and I’m excited I have Sally Hepworth’s whole backlist to read after loving this!
Great book!! Was so excited to read it and it did not disappoint!! Great characters.. Sally’s books are always top notch!
Another stand out thriller by Sally Hepworth.
Mental health is not something that is easy to write about; I find myself simultaneously loving and hating the main character’s husband Gabe throughout the entire story. I wanted to shake Pippa many times and scream “can’t you see!? Are you blind!? He’s bipolar!!”
The ending was very unanticipated and clever. All in all an amazing domestic thriller.
I have read all of Sally Hepworth’s books, and already can’t wait for the next one!! This nail biter will keep you hooked until the end. Mark your calendar for April 4th and read this book!!!
I always enjoy Sally Hepworth's novels and this was a quick and interesting read. The Drop made for a unique setting. I really wasn't sure where this was going and I didn't expect it would end the way it did. I liked Pippa and loved the way she accepted her husband's lovechild without reservation. Her family walked a thin line between offering support and being a bit intrusive--but they certainly had her best interest at heart. I look forward to Sally's next novel!
What a delightful surprise for an avid reader to find a novel that leads you to so many assumptions and be surprised on all of them! The Soulmate provided twists and turns and I was unable to let it go until the the very last page. Gabe and Pippa’s story kept growing and developing deeper depths with every chapter. Sally Hepworth has provided an excellent five star work of fiction that keeps you pondering even when the book is closed.
The short chapters and multiple POVs and going back and forth between the present and the past make this one a quick read (and also means that there are nearly NINETY chapters!) There were a few twists that I saw coming, and I few that were a surprise! But nothing too terribly groundbreaking. It took me longer than I care to admit figuring out this took place in Australia. Overall, a decent thriller - 3.5 out of 5, rounded up to a 4.

Gabe and Pippa seem to have it all, A perfect family and a perfect home in a sleepy costal town. But their perfect house has a sinister cliff near it, a cliff where people go to end their lives. Recently Gabe has saved most of the lives that go to that dreaded cliff. Until he fails to save one and what does this now dead woman have in connection to them?
I really wanted to love The Soulmate, when you read a summary like this one you are just instantly drawn to it. This was a good read and there was nothing in particular that put me off from the story. I was just hoping to get more out of it and I kept waiting for an unexpected twist that never came.
Overall, I would say this is a pretty average read but still a great one to unwind and enjoy! The Soulmate releases April 4th so keep an eye out, if you are interested in reading.
This is my third book by Sally Hepworth and I've loved all of them!
This book was not what I was expecting but I completely loved it. Pippa was such a loving mom to her daughters and husband.
Loved the story!
How much would you be willing to do for the one you love? This will definitely keep you flipping pages. It takes you on the journey thru mental illness and left me shocked at the connection between the two couples. The web of lies is real in this story.
Did Amanda jump or was foul play involved? You definitely need to check this one out to find out.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book, in about 4 hrs… I could not put it down. I went in blind, just trusting the author (yes I’ve read her other books and 🙌🏻) so I was not surprised to find this one just as amazing. The twists I didn’t see the coming. The characters. I will be making sure we get this one at our library when it comes out!
Gabe and Pippa needed a change. After a search, they found their dream house. It was perfect! But there was one drawback. It was next to what the locals call “The Drop”, a steep cliff off of which many suicide victims jumped. On a regular basis, Gabe would go talk the potential suicide victims out of jumping. He became a local hero. And, like every other time he did this, he went to talk the latest potential suicide victim off of the edge. But this time it was different. This time, Gabe knew the jumper! As Pippa watched his body language as he talke, she began to wonder if Gabe had actually pushed the jumper this time.
I couldn’t put this book down! Little-by-little, Sally Hepworth reveals to the reader more and more of the truth until the reader is totally immersed in the storyline. The characters she has created here are very real and unpredictably human. Her imagery moves the story along, thrusting the reader into the action of her story as they unravel the truth. I highly recommend this one!
I instantly liked this book. The characters were complex and interesting. The ending was a little too happy for me.
Sally Hepworth is becoming one of my favorite authors! I thoroughly enjoyed The Soulmate - it actually helped me out of a reading slump I've been in lately! This book has interesting characters, a lot of twists - some I saw coming and others I didn't. The story is told in dual timelines (past and now) from the pov of Pippa and Amanda.. Near Pippa and Gabe's home is a spot called "the drop" where many people have come to end their lives. Gabe has a knack for talking people down and convincing them to stay. This time it doesn't happen though and when Pippa learns the identity of the victim she has doubts if the woman actually jumped or if her husband might have pushed her. I was quite intrigued with the story and I also think that the cover of this book looks simply amazing.
Thank you for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book which I highly recommend.
I liked this book. Quick and easy read. I would recommend this book and the author’s other books as well.
The Soulmate centres on the family dramas of a married couple who live near an infamous local cliff. More suspenseful than thriller, this latest offering from Sally Hepworth is filled with domestic intrigue and complicated relationships. While I found it engaging, it wasn’t wildly twisty or fast-paced in my opinion.
This novel touches on a lot of mental health issues, and the marriage portrayed had a lot of depth and realistic struggles that I appreciated (in addition to the outlandish popcorn thriller features).
Overall, I know I can count on this author when I want a quick and mysterious story, although this wasn’t as gripping as I’ve found others from her to be in the past.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher to access to an e-arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review. It will be available April 4, 2023.
