Wow. "The Soulmate" by Sally Hepworth is quite a ride! As usual, she succeeds once again. It is a psychological thriller in the true sense of the word. I could NOT put this book down and the plot twists kept coming. I was up late finishing this book and that is the sign of a strong 5 star read. The chapters alternate between different characters point of views and the chapters also alternate between "Now" and "Then." I am normally not a fan of shorter chapters, but this structure works really well here and helps to keep the momentum going. Gabe and Pippa and their young children live in a cottage along the cliffs in a small town. But the cliffs have become a popular place for people to end their life. Did the latest victim jump or was she pushed? Lots of themes are explored including fidelity, marriage, secrets, betrayal, family, soulmates, and mental health. The book title, cover art, and cover color palette match this story perfectly. Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy. Expected publication date is April 2023.

Pippa and Gabe's house is on a cliff. It' seemed like the most perfect purchase....at first. Until they realized how many people showed up to the cliff....to jump. Gabe becomes a professional at talking people down when one night, he can't. The woman jumps. Her death leads to a chain of events that has Pippa questioning how well she knows her husband and what he's hiding. The story is told in 2 different perspectives, from Pippa's perspective and Amanda's (the now deceased woman). Pippa starts unraveling the story behind the woman on the ledge and her connection to her husband and ultimately, the connection to her. In the process, you learn more about Pippa and the lies she has also been entertaining about her husband and her life to stay afloat. She has to face some hard truths about herself and make difficult decisions for the best of their daughters. No spoilers but he ending is truly a GASP! moment that you didn't see coming. Highly recommend this book if you're looking for an entertaining, page turning read.

One of Sally's best books. It has that usually Sally humor and storytelling. It is a love story but a thriller on top of that. If you have never read a Sally Hepworth book before I recommend picking one up.

I loved this book!! I was reading this as I was raising a newborn, so it took me a bit of time to read but I was constantly thinking about it and hoping to have a few minutes of spare time to get to it. It was so atmospheric-- which is my FAVORITE thing about a book! When I can just feel myself in that setting and truly escape. This one was twisty, with characters I enjoyed. I don't want to give too much away, but will definitely recommend to my friends! Thank you all for letting me read it ahead of time!

The Soulmate is a must read! So many twists and turns until the very end!!

I was drawn in from the first few pages. There was love, mystery, thriller, heart break and many more feelings!

This book makes me want to visit the Ocean but maybe not The Drop.

There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.

When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?

And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.

This was my first Sally Hepworth novel. It was so good and now I'm ready to dive into more of her books. If you're looking for a good read this is it!

Fast-paced domestic thriller set on the southern coast of Australia. The storyline is dual-POV as well as multiple timeline (now, then, after), but it all dovetails nicely in the end.

I struggle with female protagonists who make (seemingly) naïve decisions in the name of love, but in this case, I was able to understand where Pippa was coming from, especially as more was revealed. The ending wrapped things up quite nicely and left me feeling hopeful for Pippa and her family.

Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC of this new book by Sally Hepworth.

Like The Good Sister also by SH, I simply could not engage with these characters. I found them to be wooden like stand-ins. After about 75 pages I decided I wasn’t going to struggle with this book in the same way I did with The Good Sister. While I appreciate the opportunity, it seems that Sally and I are not meant to share a reading experience.

Another winner by Sally Hepworth! What does it mean to be someone's soulmate? Accepting them without question? A mesmerizing, character-driven mystery with a heartbreaking coda.

This was a delicious read, with a build up in plot like a slow burn. Hepworth has done it yet again. I enjoyed the switch of perspective a from past to present between the characters that was able to so thoroughly get into the characters’ minds without ever truly hearing from them firsthand. Great read! Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC.

You know immediately upon starting it, what you’re in for - nonetheless, it is riveting. But, this not only turns out to be a page turner, but one full of twists and turns that are for the most part quite plausible. I think the topic of mental health was dealt with overall quite well, Hepworth for the most part getting the charismatic pull of a person who is bipolar right on, with the difficulties of living with the repercussions of it and other types of mental illness.
It is a relief to read about people who can be afflicted with these problems, rather than just a “maniacal killer”theme. Though not a perfect rendition of conditions that can occur, Hepworth does make a valiant effort to make her characters and their problems relatable . I enjoyed the read and was satisfied by the ending, though actually wondered if it was a correct view of reality. There have been be some loose ends…. Plus who likes relatable characters dying?

Still, an enjoyable read, and thanks to NetGalley and St.Martins Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

👀Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC of Soulmate. After hearing many good things about this book on a Facebook group and receiving the ARC, I gave it a read. It was suspenseful and I have enjoyed other Sally Hepworth books as well.

This book was entertaining in the sense that you never knew what was going to happen next. There are definitely some wtf moments and diving through the complexities of marriage with Pippa and Gabe as the model is a wild ride!

It’s a lot to unpack, and a lot of different things going on and at times it became a bit much. Also, the style kind of threw me off in the beginning but other than that, it checks all the boxes for a good suspense and book to settle in with for a twisted journey.

*Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sally Hepworth has yet to let me down! Her newest book, The Soulmate, kept me guessing until the very end!

How well do you really know your spouse? Do you know their secrets? What makes them tick? How to push their buttons? Gabe and Pippa are the dream couple. The golden boy with the smart girl. Two perfect kids. The cottage on the cliff.

When Gabe's reputation as the local hero comes to a slamming halt one evening, the perfect life they thought they had begins to unravel. Who holds the cards? Whose secrets are worse? Will the family survive?

A strong marriage, an incredibly supportive family, and secrets from all sides made this page-turner one of my favorites this year.

✨ARC Review✨

“It’s not normal, the way you love your husband.”

The ledge near Gabe and Pippa’s home is a constant place for suicide. “Millionaires Walk” is known for its views, but it’s also known for the walking path and sheer drop leading to jagged rocks and beach. Phoning to the police that there is “someone on the cliff” is a regular occurrence. Gabe has talked seven people to date off the ledge until Ananda is there. Amanda is the one he couldn’t talk off the ledge, but is her death what it seems?

“We will never know the number of lives we have saved.”

The Soulmate is a binge worthy page turner! It is told from multiple POV, along with shifting timelines, and it’s short chapters make for a quick read! If you enjoy Dateline or the show Accident, Suicide, or Murder, then this book is a must read. There are multiple twists, and although it is pretty clear what happened to Amanda when she died, it’s the journey on how she arrived there that is telling. Even though this book surrounds death, it also discusses marriage, soulmates, and what two people bring to a marriage. That sometimes a marriage is draining, and isn’t what it seems.
