I’m a bit torn on this book. I felt really excited going into it and every time I picked it up I enjoyed what I read. There wasn’t really anything to pull me back in, though. It took me two months to finish because, although I was pleased by the writing and the plot, I didn’t feel that need to KNOW what would happen in the end. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I wish it had more to keep me interested throughout.

The Soulmate had me flip flopping back and forth with what I knew and what I thought I knew and wait….that doesn’t work out! Sally Hepworth has an incredible ability to capture the voice of a character and tell a story. Each character has so much depth you feel you know them and guess their next move. There was so many layers to these characters. I loved them and wanted to shake them.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for inviting me to read, The Soulmate, what a wonderful rollercoaster!

4/5 stars

Plot was unique. It had me engaged from the first page. LOVED the characters, especially Gabe’s character- even though he was unlikeable for a large part of the book, he was interesting! I have never met a character like Gabe in any other book.

Pace got a little slow at times. There were parts in the middle that didn’t have me flipping through the pages as fast but overall, I liked this book a lot!

Another solid thriller by Sally hepworth. Missing the awesome relational components like in her “the mother in law” but still a great thriller that will keep you turning the pages

I absolutely love Sally Hepworth books and once again she has delivered another fantastic book. A gripping story about two couples and there relationships & their connection. This was a book very cleverly written and I loved the characters and the unexpectedness of the storyline. I read it in 5 days since I also had to work.

I flew through this story about the lies people tell their partner, things we overlook in a marriage, and what we are willing to keep hidden to keep our partners. Suspenseful until the very end.

Could not put down! Hepworth's best yet! Engaging, propulsive, mysterious, kept you guessing. A must-read for spring 2023!

Well this one you will want to speed read. You HAVE to know what happens. Sally Hepworth is an auto-buy for me and this did not disappoint. You have two different POVs from the same event and you just keep going back and forth on what actually happened.

This is a twisty psychological thrilled that you will eat up in one sitting.

This was the first book I’ve read by Sally Hepworth and it surely won’t be my last! I was on the edge of my seat throughout, completely drawn in and wanting to find out what happened next. I loved the different POV’s of Pippa and Amanda and alternating between the past and present really developed the characters and plot perfectly. There were so many exciting twists and turns and an ending I couldn’t have guessed. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital arc in exchange for my honest review!

I have really enjoyed the stories by this author and I enjoyed this one too, but just not as much.

It was a lot. Multiple narrators (including one from the grave) and timelines, along with a slow burn, made this a tough story to sink into.

The story was full of interesting characters that I embraced more as the story progresses, but the obsession with the physical and how handsome the husband was was over the top. This was more domestic drama than thriller but there were some thrills along the way.

This took some time to unravel but it does in an exploding fashion in the last quarter (with blow after blow). There were so many revelations that it became a bit much (over the top). I would have enjoyed those secrets being leaked throughout to tease the story along and not place it all at the end. Regardless, I have really enjoyed the stories by this author and I enjoyed this one too, but just not as much.

Gabe and Pippa bought a house on the cliff and it’s a popular cliff where people like to commit suicide or “not alive“ as my daughters like to say and let me just say these people live on the cliff with two little girls🤯 but I digress Gage is the suicide whisperer whenever there’s a jumper he goes out there and talks to them and convinces them not to jump. He was even mentioned in the paper for it. So one day while they’re relaxing at home they see a woman go out to the cliff and of course Gage goes out to talk to her and the next thing Pippa knows is the woman goes off the cliff and did she hear A screen? Gage comes in so dejected, he lost one and no he didn’t know her and she was talking about her husband cheating on her and the next thank he knew she was gone. While pipit loves and trust her husband after they speak to the police she feels unsettled. She found out not only had Gage met the woman before but he was gages bosses wife. She trusts gauge doesn’t she? I mean he wasn’t the one who couldn’t be trusted… Right? There’s so much to this book that I don’t want to say in the summary but trust me when I say this is OMG good Sally Hepworth such a great thriller, mystery writer and she definitely proves it again with The Soul Mate if you love books by Ruth where you loves Brooke it truly is a five-star read! I wish I would’ve listen to an audio version but don’t know if that’s available but I would definitely be down to do that. I received this book from NetGalley and Saint Martin’s press but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Thank you so much Netgalley for the gifted ARC of this one!
I wanted so badly to love this one but I found it just okay.
Overall the story was interesting. Something I haven’t read before in a thriller but the middle seemed to drag.
I liked how the story went back and forth between past and present and back and forth between Pippa and Amanda.
I liked Amanda’s character the most. She seems to be the only one who had a good head on her shoulders.
I wanted to smack some sense into Pippa for dealing with Gabe.
I also didn’t really care for the ending. I was waiting for that “wow” factor but never got it.
Overall this book was just okay for me.

When a woman jumps off the popular suicide spot next to Gabe and Pippa’s home, they are devastated Gabe wasn’t able to save her like he has for so many others in the past. But once Pippa learns that the woman was not in fact a stranger, she finds herself asking, was it really suicide?

I loved how the story unfolded in this book. The two different perspectives and timelines that were slowly woven together made for such an interesting read. After the end of every chapter I just kept wanting to read more and more.

The characters were interesting and complex, yet mysterious, which made for a really great story. I knew all these characters were connected in some way, but the twists and turns made it so every guess I had was rerouted to another.

I also really appreciated the way she talked about mental health and not only how it affects the person who is experiencing it, but also all those who love them. It was very powerful.

I would definitely recommend this book if you’ve enjoyed any of Sally Hepworth’s pervious books or if you like a good family suspense story.

Sally Hepworth is becoming one of my go to authors. She mixes thriller with a little bit of romance for a good balance that also keeps you guessing until the very end.

The Soulmate is one of those guessing games. A last minute twist at the end had me flipping back a few pages to confirm what I’d just read. It was a dual perspective read but really 4 timelines between the two of Then and Now but SH keeps it flowing so seamless that you’re not confused by the multiple characters.

Pippa has it all. Handsome husband, beautiful family, seaside cottage, the perfect life. But there’s something about Gabe…

Gabe is the “it” guy. Charming, good looking, smoothing talking. But he’s currently jobless and acting a bit flighty.

Enter Amanda. Amanda wanders by Pippa and Gabe’s cliff side home, and gets a little too close to “The Drop,” which is a well known spot for those looking to end their lives. Gabe sees Amanda at the cliff’s edge, but by the time the police arrive, Amanda is gone. Gabe claims she jumped, but Pippa isn’t so sure…

The Soulmate was a solid thriller that was a wild ride! I did not see the twist coming, and now I need to read Sally Hepworth’s other books. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the digital ARC!

I really love Sally Hepworth as a mystery writer, there's always an additional layer to her books that deepens the mystery and domestic thriller into a treatise on something bigger. In this case, it's about marriage and what the characters are willing to put up with and what they are not.

To me, the only note that I didn't quite love was Amanda's narration from the grave because I just don't really enjoy that method of explaining things about deceased characters. That being said, her final chapter narration almost made up for the device... almost.

I really enjoyed Pippa and her character arc, especially as she grew more and more aware of who Gabe is and what he is willing to do without regard to her or their children. You get the sense that she suffers a lot in silence, despite there being no outward abuse or neglect. Pippa is like many people, though we would rather not recognize it about ourselves. She's willing to be the selfless one so that her partner can succeed and flourish, even when it comes at a personal cost to herself.

I devoured this book, from the first chapter I was invested. Sally Hepworth truly knows how to set a looming atmosphere. While the ending was a little anticlimactic for me I really enjoyed the setting, characters and storyline. Would recommend to anyone looking for a thriller! Thanks for the ARC, publishing date is 4.423!
